Prince Harry & Duchess Meg will join the Queen for an event next Tuesday

Royal Ascot 2018 - Day 1

This is just something lighter so we don’t get so depressed with all the fascism. It really does feel like Queen Elizabeth has a new BFF in the Duchess of Sussex. The Queen just won’t stop making plans with Meghan! Protocol be damned, the Queen wants to go on a girls’ trip! She wants to show Meghan the Corgi Lyfe. So yes, the Queen invited Prince Harry and Meghan to Buckingham Palace next week:

Newlyweds Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a growing roster of royal outings planned leading up to their first official royal tour Down Under! On the heels of the Duchess of Sussex’s first solo outing with the Queen, she’ll be stepping out with her grandmother-in-law once again for a special Queen’s Young Leaders reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday (June 26). And this time the 36-year-old will have her husband by her side.

[From Hello Canada]

The Queen’s Young Leaders program is made up of 240 award winners from Britain and the Commonwealth countries, all of whom are being recognized for their service to country and community. Prince Harry was named the new Commonwealth Youth Ambassador, and it’s widely believed that Meghan will share the title too, that she’ll be given some kind of similar title. Basically, the Queen just wants Meghan at all of her events now. The Queen calls up Meghan every night to see what Meg will wear the next day so they can coordinate, and then they end up on the phone for an hour as they talk about British history and horses.

Also: The Sun ran an honest-to-God article about how Meghan wears heels that seem one size too big, because I guess that’s something that people were complaining about?? The reason why Meg’s shoes seem a tad roomy? She’s worried about bunions and blisters, apparently.

I’m glad some members of that family really want her to feel at home.

    • Jan90067 (aka imqrious2) says:

🎶High ho, hey ho, it’s the Corgi Lyfe for me! 🎶.

Harry loves her, and TQ and the corgis like her (a lot it seems!), as do Charles and Cam … she’s in like Flynt! 😊

    • Angry Bird says:

Maybe QE2 sees a bit of herself in Meghan? IDK — they both seem to be “DOers”, you know. Queen is 90-something and arguably one of the hardest-working people around. Both seem like ‘can-do’ women and they are active. I’m glad they are getting on.

  2. Becks1 says:

Haha people here get so upset over her shoes being too big. It’s kind of hilarious.

I’m glad that we are seeing so much (relatively) of Meghan this summer. I was thinking it would be trooping the colour and not much else.

    • Siiiigh says:

A shoe is only too big if it falls off or slips out of place, which hers do not. If it gapes in the back it’s because you have curvier/slimmer ankles than it was modeled off of. That’s it.

    • wirtoahfgoi says:

I cannot imagine nitpicking something like that? who gives a fuck if her shoes are a size too big. I applaud her, I can’t stand it when my toes are pinched.

Also, I love love LOVE those pictures of her and the Queen, they look like they’re getting on like a house on fire. 🙂

  3. Pita says:

Is it bad that I love these Meghan news? I am not American but I live in the US and with the political news I can’t help but feel hope when I see this, don’t even know why but I think is because racist people must be losing their minds about her right now.

    • Lilly says:

I don’t think so; I do the same. As soon as I saw the headline, I thought: “Thank God for something bright.” Then Kaiser said something similar in the opening line, only better. I agree with this news making racists lose their minds. Including #predatorinchief and #PresidentMiller who must hate it when she’s in the news, especially when Meghan is with the Queen. You know Orange Fuhrer hates when anyone else is in the headlines.

      • MoonTheLoon says:

Not just that- the first American successfully into the senior echelon of the BRF is an African American woman. I’d suggest they put extra security around the Duke and Duchess while Trump and his goons are in town.

    • minx says:

We have to survive these horrible times and if pleasant gossip helps our day, I’m all for it.

    • Mego says:

Not at al! I’m the same way. She is like a ray of sunshine in my day and something positive to think about amidst the gloom and doom. Part of the reason I love Harry and Meghan is the way they treat each other with kindness and respect. It’s a great model for marriage and everyone in how we treat each other. In a similar way I adored Barack and Michelle – they are a wonderful couple who I miss seeing in the news.

    • wirtoahfgoi says:

If it’s wrong, I don’t want to be right. I need SOMETHING happy to distract me from the fucking horror show our country has turned into.

    • Angry Bird says:

Dude/tte, DM commenters are flipping their wigs left and right over Meghan Markle and Michelle Obama. They just cannot deal.

  4. gm says:

I and others also have to wear shoes a size larger because of bunions. I wonder how she keeps her feet from sliding forward in heels when she wears stockings though?

    • Lady D says:

Dr. Scholl’s gel inserts for your boots, shoes, heels. My feet are beyond help and breaking in new shoes practically cripples me for days, even when done slowly. The gel inserts do help keep your feet in place.

    • Masamf says:

@gm, you can also use feet “cushions” to prevent sliding forward.

    • taxi says:

Feet swell during the day, especially with all the standing & walking RF does at events. To do it in heels that are too tight by the afternoon would be murder. Shoemakers & podiatrists always say to buy shoes in the p.m., never a.m., to allow for natural swelling which increases during warm weather.
Many high-end shoes come with small padded strips to stick into the ball of the shoe to prevent the forward slip. Until about 10 years ago, Saks, Neiman, Nordstrom, etc. gave them free for the asking.

      • Tweetime says:

I wish all the lovely heel-wearers of the world could magically give me an understanding of walking in heels.
Love the look, have never been able to do it gracefully. I feel like it’s an ability you’re born with or without.

    • minx says:

Bunions, ugh. I’ve developed them is the past year or so and they are a blight on my already not-petite feet.

      • Angry Bird says:

@Minx, get thee to to an orthopedic surgeon ASAP and get it sorted. Don’t wait until you are older and have bone density issues. Go to someone specializing in foot & ankle. Longer you wait, the more complicated it gets. My mother (late-60s) has had more bunion and hammertoe surgeries than I care to recall (>5). Surgery on her is tricky because she’s got those dainty third-world bones and she’s been through the menopause which can affect bones.

  5. Bella DuPont says:

    Matthew 3:17

…..and behold, a voice out of Buckingham Palace said,

“This is My beloved Grand-daughter-In-Law, in whom I am well-pleased….”

  6. Masamf says:

Oh I just love this. And the UK tabloids are in meltdown mode over “Queen favoring Meghan over Kate”, SMDH. Kate is in self imposed mat leave, can we leave her off the list for now? I love the Sussexes and any news about them is good news for me, I used to really like US news but I got tired of the constant depression from there so I no longer read or watch none of that, I got my sanity to consider. The other day, I clicked on the “kids in cages” thread and I lasted just a couple of minutes and got outta there pretty fast. I can’t take the US now in whatever dose so this Sussex related news is my drug of choice, I gladly indulge.

    • minx says:

Same. If my liver is to survive, I can’t drink every time the news horrifies me.

  7. Always Lurking says:

My feet are two different sizes. When I buy heels one shoe is always bigger. Maybe it’s the same for Meghan?

Also, these annoying british tabloids always find something to complain about. She cannot win with them.

The she ‘ wears clothes too big’ cult is probably already on the way to this thread. Ha!

  8. Ophelia says:

Meghan dear, when that Orange Thing comes next month… here’s what we’re going to do…

    ((Insert James Bond Music))

  9. Jayne Birkinb says:

When the Orange Thing comes next month, *chew up* your Starburst candies before you throw them at DJT. He’s a germaphobe, you see.

  10. KeWest says:

I’m doing a Meghan. I usually wear an 8 but have moved up to an 8 and a half.

Maybe it’s age but my feet swell a little now. (I will see myself out now)

    • Enn says:

Especially in the summer! I was at an event last weekend and it was sweltering. I was wearing shoes that are usually a little roomy and by the end of the night I had to pry them off.

    • C. Remm says:

Getting old is not for sissies. 😉

  11. Amelie says:

Love that the Queen has taken to Meghan so well. They can do as many events as they want together, I am all for it.

I do wonder though with Meghan popping up all over the place will have Kate ending her maternity leave early…

    • homeslice says:

Would you come off of maternity leave early because a co-worker was working during your time off??? This narrative is silly. I’m sure Kate is savoring every minute of hanging out and not wearing panty hose this summer.

    • gingersnaps says:

She’ll probably do a lot of pap shots with the children to make up for it.

  12. Natalie S says:

I take back what I said a few days ago. In light of what’s happening, it’s a small relief to also talk about fashion and other light things (though I still wish they would announce at least one of her patronages. I’m so curious about what direction she goes in).

    Corgi Lyfe!

    • whatever says:

I’m surprised about how long it’s taking to announce her patronages tbh. I remember reading lots and lots of comments before the wedding saying she would be the opposite of Kate and release a lengthy list of patronages *immediately* after the wedding day. Over a month after the wedding, we still have nothing apart from the confirmation she has joined the Royal Foundation with William, Kate, and Harry (which wasn’t a surprise). It shouldn’t be difficult to officially release the names of one or two patronages she is supporting so she can actually “hit the ground running” and put “boots on the ground”.

      • Natalie S says:

I’m interested in Meghan for Meghan. Nothing to do with Kate.

      • Bella DuPont says:

        @ Whatever

Apparently, she has met over 1,000 small charities of every description (yes, you read that right), so far and is still in the process of selection.

So, she might not have given you what you want as quickly as you want it, but the girl is working. 😉😉

      • Mae says:

Hi! Leaving lurkdom to comment on first post ever.
Just wanted to say that I’ve been listening to the podcast On Heir, and like Bella du Pont said Meghan has been meeting with at least 100 charities since her engagement over 6 months ago. She meets with small grass roots charities. Emily Andrews (another RR), actually spoke to someone who met with Meghan and apparently she asked a lot of questions and was very intelligent and articulate. I feel like she’s the kind of person who does her research first. And Omid and Emily thinks she will focus on grassroots charities, so she can give them the platform to grow and she can grow alongside them. So, I do think she has been “hitting the ground running” like she said.

      • Bella DuPont says:

        @ Mae

        Actually, you’re right…..she’s met 100 small charities, (not 1000!).

Point is, she’s been very busy with this and probably still is. 🙂✌️

      • Jan90067 (aka imqrious2) says:

        Welcome Mae! 🤗

      • Mae says:

        Thank you Jan90067 😊

  13. 76May says:

I love seeing the Queen obviously dote on Meghan. She is a breath of fresh air.

  14. TeamAwesome says:

Her Majesty also has to check in on her new favorite great-grand pup Guy, of course.

  15. KiddV says:

“The Queen calls up Meghan every night to see what Meg will wear the next day so they can coordinate, and then they end up on the phone for an hour as they talk about British history and horses. ” I love this! LOL Harry is going to start complaining that he feels like a third wheel again. First with W&K, now with M&TQ.

There are photos of Meghan floating around with her in strappy sandals and it looks like she already has bunions, so I get the need for slightly roomier shoes.

    • Flying Fish says:

I have seen those videos as well, along with a few that show her feet sliding out of her shoe as she is holding on to Harry for dear life.
If she has to wear a larger shoe to be comfortable then so be it.

I am looking forward to the photos from that event.

      • Masamf says:

Meghan does NOT hold onto Harry for dear life, they hold hands and they mutually do it. If Meghan doesn’t reach for harry’s hand, he makes sure to reach for hers, neither wants to let go of the other. And none on holding onto the other for dear life, they just love holding hands.

      • PrincessK says:

Well, at times I have seen Meghan holding on to Harry to give her support.

  16. Royal Suitor says:

Meghan and HMQ is this summer’s buddy comedy and I’m here for all of it. Road trips, doggie play dates, mani pedis…bring it on.

  17. Harryg says:

I love the Queen, Meghan and Harry! They should always go out as a pack!

  18. raindrop says:

Those shoes look like they fit just fine. People obsess over weird things. I’m just sorry she has to wear heels all the time, I think heels are evil and painful and I avoid them at all costs.

  19. paddingtonjr says:

Girls Trip II: Liz and Meg Take the UK! I think its great TQ and Meg are doing events together. Meg seems to really want to learn about her role and do it well, which of course would please TQ. Also, like TQ and Sophie, they have common interests outside of The Firm so they can enjoy their time together. I can’t wait for the pictures of TQ and M&H together!

    • Masamf says:

I said this before, Harry has a advantage because of his bother married first. He is learning from William’s mistakes and makes sure not to repeat any that he can avoid repeating. William continuing to refuse training, guidance and direction for Kate for years, stating that she will take his lead put Kate at a sort of a disadvantage. Now both Harry and Meghan are making sure any guidance or direction or training offered to Meghan will be accepted with humility, eagerness and preparedness to learn and gratitude that its been offered; I think they are taking the “take nothing for granted” approach and it will do them a world of good as its their only way to transitioning into successful working royal roles. Smart team the Sussexes are.

      • paddingtonjr says:

ITA, Masamf! The BRF, especially TQ, tend to learn from mistakes. H&M, especially H, learned from the Cambridges which has given them the advantage. Also, given Meghan’s background as an actress, her instinct will be to absorb and learn everything she can about the UK and the role of the BRF. And, honestly, I think she is having fun right now. She seems to be a person who enjoys new challenges and being in the world. This is still very new and exciting for her; senior members of the BRF are picking up on that and seem to want to prolong that sense of excitement and wonder for her as long as they can.

  20. PamelaJudy says:

I’m honestly surprised the shoe thing is an issue at all. Read any stylist tips/blogs and they will all tell you that most female celebs wear shoes a size too big for red carpets et al to prevent blisters and sore feet. Next time you see a red carpet gallery, check out the feet. Most of the shoes are too big. It’s not new.

Here’s just one example with pics

Is that a white spot on her hair or is the straightening giving her bald patches
