Jon Gosselin claims kids are refusing to film show, Kate says it will go on

Yesterday we heard Jon Gosselin bitching that he wanted to quit his easy money reality show and get a 9 to 5. This is from the guy who got fired for surfing the web and making too many phone calls from his last real job. He makes more money in one episode, $75,000, than most people see in a year and he’s complaining about it. Gosselin also told his friends at Life & Style in an interview to be published in their upcoming edition that his kids are rebelling against the show. He detailed an upsetting incident in which his children refused to film, staying seated in one area in protest, and were supposedly yelled at by the production crew to get up and shoot a scene:

Jon and Kate Gosselin’s 5-year-old sextuplets and 8-year-old twins are starting to rebel against the constant taping of their lives.

“The kids staged a sit-in — a revolt,” Jon Gosselin told Life & Style on Aug. 13. “They didn’t want to work today.”

This isn’t the first time the kids haven’t wanted to “work.” On Aug. 7, after a day of filming for TLC’s “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” the magazine reports that the eight Gosselin kids were pressured into continuing to film beyond their wishes.

An eyewitness told the magazine that “once the kids returned home, the film crew kept yelling at them to film more outside. They seemed really tired, but the crew kept pushing them.”

A rep from TLC denied the report, saying “the assertion is utterly baseless.”

I don’t doubt that the kids are annoyed with the constant filming, and someone should step in and put a stop to this show. How much do want to bet that their dad put them up to it, though? He surely influences them and he’s spoken at length about wanting off the show. He’s probably trying to get fired and put a stop to the show in that gloriously passive aggressive way he deals with everything. I can see Jon telling the kids not to film.

Kate Gosselin was on Larry King Live last night and she asserted that her kids like doing the show and that it will continue without Jon. She said the job was very good for her and that TLC had been nothing but supportive.

Everyone works. Everyone has a job. Everyone has what they’re dealing with. And, generally speaking, this is the most flexible, workable, wonderful job for myself. Remember, the kids are just playing in front of the cameras so…

I know that myself and the kids will continue the show…

I signed my name to a contract and I am going to do my best to make that work, as long as it is healthy and safe for myself and the kids.

So there you go. The show will most likely go on. Kate also told Larry King that the custody agreement she has with Jon was worked out between the two of them without any court involvement. She said “it is a very peaceful thing, custody,” and explained that their argument over Jon’s choice of a babysitter and refusal to let her in the house was blown out of proportion by the media. Kate didn’t trash Jon at all, and said that he was a good father, but added that “His decisions right now are not ones that I would necessarily make.”

I’m pretty sure that the kids don’t want to film. Kids get annoy pretty easily and with a bunch of people following you and telling you what to do is a receipt for disaster. Is not like the kids can say “I don’t want to do this” and they are going to be listen to. They have to work because their parents decided to have a bunch of kids and quit their jobs to do a reality show.

  2. Kayleigh says:

That film crew have been in their home sense they were little, and I’m pretty sure it’s the same people now that it has been for a while. They know these people and they probably look to them as sort of family.
I doubt they are old enough to conjure an idea to “rebel” on there own, considering when I was 5 all I wanted to do was rip Barbie heads off and dance in front of the tv.
Also the fact that this is coming out of Dad of the Year’s mouth I find it hard to believe.

  3. QB says:

Little kids act out all the time. They don’t care if they know you or not , is just natural. But anyway I should not be talking about this since I hate this type of shows , that exploit childrens childhood ,just because their parents don’t want to have a real job.

  4. Kayleigh says:

I agree with exploiting, I would be so embarrassed when I was older if my parents opened our house to all of America from when I was a baby.

Yes Jon being the truthful dotting dad that you are we, all of America believe you.

Where do you find the time, being that your cell phone is glued to ear or hanging out with clueless young women.

Kids will be kids and not want to do everything they are told to do it’s like a right of passage it also means they are not drones and slaves and when they do not want to do the show I think they will speak up, I just hope that Kate and Jon will hear them.

    TEAM KIDS

  6. HEB says:

Forget Jon, I think Mady probably organized the little kids to do that–she’s been sick of it the longest. Kudos.

  7. texasmom says:

My kids saw a few episodes of Super Nanny. All they could talk about was how embarrassing the whole thing must have been for the kids in the show. They immediately imagined the kids’ friends seeing the show and what it would be like in school the next day. Poor Gosselin kids.

By the way, the photos for this post were spectacularly, wonderfully awful!

  8. elisabetta says:

Sounds to me like Jon put the kids up to it. Even if they didn’t want to film, for a group of 5 year olds to organize a rebellion? Please. To ‘rebel’ is a very complex idea. That’s why ‘rebelling’ usually happens when kids are teenagers and understand independence and want separation from their parents. Basically, it didn’t happen like he said it did. Once again, Jon just sits there and sells bold faced lies to the tabloids for a profit.

  9. QB says:

I’m pretty sure that by Revolt he mean the kid’s just sat down , where grouchy and hide from the cameras. Thats their rebellion.

  10. Cinderella says:

The Gosselins will have hell to pay when their kids are older.

This has become a power struggle between a money hungry mother, a selfish father and an exploitative network. It hasn’t been about the kids for a very long time.

    Sickening. All of it.

  11. oxa says:

It is highly possible that the kids are acting out so did rebel. They are in the middle of a nasty divorce and the family is fragmenting changing their whole life. Kate said last night that she has not sought therapy for them and they are doing fine, how could she say that. No young kids in the midst of an acrimonious divorce let alone filming a show while their lives are in turmoil and parents rotaing in and out, is ok. I am appaled that Kate made sure she was seeing muliple attorneys, financial advisors/accountants, public relations, contract people, agents etc and getting all the support SHE needs to go on with HER CAREER yet has not gotten advice and much needed help for the most important things in her life HER KIDS. She even spoke of doing a season 6 with no qualms of the kids needs or their lives being played out on tv for the world and school friends to see. Her selfishness is beyond belief.

  12. atticus says:

if they are going to continue the show, it should focus soley on jon and kate and leave the kids out of it. the premise of a show about how ex-spouses handle the demise of their marriage is kind of interesting, actually, but the kids should be left out of it. they should film jon and kate separately on the days they aren’t in charge of the kids, and keep the cameras away from the kids’ home. everyone trashes both of them but you know america loves watching the train wreck…and sadly it is entertainment to people to judge other people’s lives (and even sadder that i am more fascinated by the gosselins now than i was when they were together)

  13. Ursula says:

    Excellent point cinderella.

OK, maybe the children are over it but have you thought about where they will get from money if they are to close the show? These are 8 children with 2 jobless parents whose employment prospects are rather dim. The show is a neccessary evil. I do not watch it, so I would not miss it. But we have to be practical. Jon is just sour graping because TLC is favouring Kate more.

  14. Persistent Cat says:

I hate the misuse of the word “myself.” It cannot be “myself and other people.” At work, everyone ends their emails with, “if you have any questions or concerns, contact myself at ….” Drives me nuts.

  15. Ginny says:

He actually quit his last job to stay with the kids since Kate was traveling all the time. It was the job before that he got fired from.

But I don’t care how much of a douche he’s being, if he actually is trying to get the show canceled and let his kids have the privacy they deserve. This show should have been canceled long ago — it’s exploiting the children and I would be mortified if millions of people saw some of the home videos my mom has of me. Hopefully this is true, and the kids continue to be uncooperative and the show is on its way out.

  16. JustV says:

I wouldn’t vote for Jon as being Man or Father of the Year, but there has been blind items and other scuttlebutt for over a year about how he wants out of the show for himself and for the kids.
As you can see, Kate seems to be the only one who really wants to continue filming, especially because she doesn’t believe that doing the show is hard on the kids since they are just playing in front of the camera.
Since the show usually doesn’t air when they are spanked or get upset when one parent leaves or if they disagree with a nanny or whatever, they should be happy when the cameras are there because that means that they get to frolic and play and have a good time. Yeah, Cameras!
I don’t think that because filming your children allows for an easier, cushier life that the real needs of the children (as far as their mental well-being) should be sacrificed for an easier life. Filming this show will only become more difficult as the children get older and become more socially adept at school.

  17. atticus says:

jon was defending continuing the show in the same episode they announced they were splitting. and now he’s changing his tune. methinks he’s trying to get fired so he can move on to his illustrious career as…wait a minute…someone help me out here

  18. Anastasia says:

Uh, if I were Jon, I would want my kids to have their private lives back. What do I mean, “back?” They never HAD private lives.

This show is SO wrong on so many levels. These kids have never had privacy. They’ve never had their own normal lives. Everything they do is to bring their parents fame and fortune.

    It’s gross.

In this sense, I completely agree with Jon and I think some people are letting their feelings about Jon get in the way. If you really are TEAM KIDS then you want the show to END so they can be somewhat normal and adjust to a regular life.

As it is, they’ll have kids in school saying they remember seeing the episode where Joel had to have his bowels unimpacted. Stuff like that. It’s awful.

Oh or how about the episode in which the kids were told their family was imploding? Yay! That was a great one, right?

The whole show is AWFUL. Of course she wants it to go on, it’s a freaking gravy train!

  19. katielover says:

Has Playboy offered Kate a pictorial? I’d love to see her it.

  20. vtownmom1 says:

If you read the article, Kate states it is a good career and a good job for HER. what better job for HER. SHE signed a contract.
That is who this is all for. KATE KATE KATE

  21. Victoria says:

Good for those kids! Now if they just divorce their crappy parents!

  22. denmoter says:

I think everyone needs to remember that those kids don’t know any other lifestyle than growing up, and playing, in front of cameras. How many kids were actors and made to work? These kids only have to do their normal routine, and have a camera in their face. I think any of us that are parents would have loved this opportunity…to make this kind of money for doing nothing more than what they normally do. Jon is a SELFISH PIG and I think would influence his kids to stop filming to get him out of a contract. With no thoughts to his 8 kids, or the income they would be losing.

  23. denmoter says:

atticus: i’ll help you out.. he wants to start his illustrious career as a…reality TV persona! With Lohan and the show is going to be called “divorced dads”.

  24. denmoter says:

Ginny: You’re wrong on his reason for leaving his last job, he was FIRED for web surfing and phone calls while at work. He’s nothing more than a slacker man child. People want to say this is all about kate, and in some part it is about Kate, but withou kate using her head and making this money, and managing it, those kids would have nothing even close to what they have. So, it’s pretty selfish of kate to want more for her kids! But seriously, who wouldn’t?

  25. j. ferber says:

Yes, they have eight kids, but it’s ridiculous to say the only way to support them and have them get a college education is to do a reality tv show. My husband’s friend has six kids. Both parents work now, and before that, the woman was a stay at home mom. All the kids are going to college. There are also student loans, part time jobs, grants, etc. (I had all of these). So there are plenty of ways to support kids and their educations without reality tv shows. Thus, I conclude, that it is not and has never been about the kids. It’s all about the parents.

  26. Annie VanRoy says:

Kate has stated that before they sign a contract for next years filming they all sit down and make a group decision. If anyone did not agree with continuing with the show it would be STOPPED. This show has been TOXIC for years and the marriage has been over much longer than what has been reported. Jon never looked happy and Kate just took over. Those poor kids are targets at school and all their classmates are privy to their homelife and their feuding parents. Yes, Kate this is a lovely film legacy to leave your kids. Shame on you both and TLC the lying channel.

  27. L. BUNCH says:

I FEEL THAT KATE IS BEING SO SO SELFISH. IN ALL OF HER INTERVIEWS ABOUT THE KIDS NOT WANTING TO FILM SHE NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE SHOW BEING GOOD FOR THE KIDS ITS ALWAYS ABOUT HER. I THINK IT IS TIME FOR THE KIDS TO BE ABLE TO LIVE A NORMAL LIFE WITHOUT ALL THE CAMERAS AND CREWS BEING AROUND 24/7. I KNOW THAT SHE IS GETTING PAID 75,000 DOLLARS PER SHOW, BUT A GOOD MOTHER WOULD GO WITHOUT FOR THE WELL BEING AND HAPPINESS OF HER KIDS. I FEEL KATE IS BEING A TERRIBLE MOTHER AND THAT COMES FROM THE HEART. PUT YOUR KIDS HAPPINESS FIRST AND LEARN SOMETHING.
