Chris Brown blames Larry King for his claim not to remember attacking Rihanna

A new clip from Larry King Live in which Chris says he wants to take that night back

Yesterday we saw an advance clip from Chris Brown’s pre-taped Larry King interview, which will air on CNN Wednesday. Chris acts like a detached idiot when asked directly about his brutal attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna in February in which he slammed her face against the passenger side window of his car, bit her ear, hit her repeatedly while driving, and eventually pulled over to choke her nearly into unconsciousness. He says “wow” multiple times and behaves as if he was a passive observer to his disgusting and ongoing act of barbarism. Brown acts as if the attack was just as surprising to him as anyone else. JayBird summed it up well when she observed that Brown’s inarticulate response was consistent with what you would expect from men who would resort to severe violence, because an inability to express themselves can lead to feeling inadequate and acting out physically.

Chris has issued a statement in response to this leaked clip, saying that it was Larry King that goaded him into eventually lying that he didn’t recall the incident, and that the segment shown online wasn’t indicative of the entire interview. It’s typical of Brown to blame other people for his own deception, and given how well written this is you can be assured that Mr. Wow didn’t write it:

In a detailed statement to PEOPLE, the singer clarifies what he calls incorrect reports – based on a clip of an interview with Larry King airing Wednesday night – about the events with Rihanna that led to his arrest:

“There have been reports on the Internet that I didn’t remember what happened that night with Rihanna. I want to try and set things straight.

“That 30 seconds of the interview they used of me was taken from a one hour interview during which that same question was asked something like four or five times – and when you look at the entire interview you will see it is not representative of what I said.

“The first four times – or however many times it was – I gave the same answer – which was that I didn’t think it was appropriate for me to talk about what happened that night. I said it was not right for me and it really wasn’t fair to Rihanna. The fifth time – or whatever it was – I just misspoke. I was asked, ‘Do you remember doing it?’ and I said, ‘No.’

“Of course I remember what happened. Several times during the interview, my mother said that I came to her right afterwards and told her everything. But it was and still is a blur. And yes, I still can’t believe it happened because it is not me or who I am, nor is what happened like anything I have ever done before.

“As I have said several times previously, I am ashamed of and sorry for what happened that night and I wish I could relive that moment and change things, but I can’t. I take full responsibility for my actions. What I have to do now is to prove to the world that this was an isolated incident and that is not who I am, and I intend to do so by my behavior now and in the future.”

[From People]

This response is just like his long-overdue half-assed apology in which he seemed frustrated and apologized to his fans, not Rihanna, dismissing the need for a public apology to the woman he brutally injured by saying he’d already apologized to her “I have told Rihanna [I’m sorry] countless times.” Here he’s saying at the end that he’s already said he’s sorry and insinuates that he doesn’t think he should be required to do it again, but he’ll do it anyway because that’s what’s required of him. Plus he’s saying it’s our fault, and Larry King’s fault, for taking him to task for lying about whether he remembers his prolonged attack. It’s not like he smacked Rihanna or hit her once and instantly regretted it. He launched a long, brutal attack on her and threatened to kill her. Saying he didn’t remember it is yet another way he’s trying to avoid facing the consequences. This statement that of course he remembers is just piss poor damage control by an abusive scumbag who also happens to be famous.

The good news is that Brown has already violated the terms of his probation, and given his entitled attitude he’s likely to do it again. Surely there’s some jail time in this slimy asshole’s future.

“As I have said several times previously, I am ashamed of and sorry for what happened that night”

    HE STILL DOESN’T GET IT.

“for what happened that night”, and NOT “what I DID THAT NIGHT”.

With someone like this, it’s ALWAYS someone else’s fault.

  2. sarah says:

I find it unsettling that this is the second or third time that Chris Brown has hilighted how very many times he’s apologized or explained himself. It just sounds like he’s getting more frustrated and expects people to have forgiven him by now. It’s like he’s getting ready to act out because someone’s not listening again!

  3. Diane says:

Why didn’t the judge order a year of duct tape to be placed across his mouth.

He is a convicted felon. It’s time to be quiet, attend anger management classes, do community service, and meet with his PO, as well as, be quiet.

  4. n says:

funny how it’s always someone else’s fault — last time it was Rihanna’s.

dresses like a child; acts like one too.

  5. lway says:

    I am dissapointed Chris 🙁

  6. Linda says:

This guy is a useless piece of crap!

I cannot believe there are people out there who support this scumbag.

It appears that he has put this all behind him – he’s forgotten it all – why can’t everyone else. Piece of low-life crap….

This is horrible to say – but I hope someone beats the living shit out of him and let him see how it feels. Someone bash his face in and choke him within an inch of his life.

The best thing that could happen is that no one reports not one thing about him ever again.

  7. Beth says:

Chris needs to shut up. It’s obvious that he doesn’t think he did anything wrong or sorry about the abuse. That’s why nobody is forgiving him or moving on. Plus that bowtie looks stupid.

  8. ash says:

After the show, Brown put on his oversized clown shoes to complete the outfit and perfomed his act at a birthday party later that day.

  9. Eliza says:

Chris Brown, its not your fault it was your Mother for keeping her abusive husband. It is Chris Brown’s birth Father’s fault nooo no no its Larry Kings fault that he brutally beat RiRi and not remembering it. I think Chris Brown should donate 10-30million to a woman’s charity or Dr’s without borders.Chris Brown should give his own time for a year to some charity for the UN or WHO.He should admit, what he did and say its unforgiveable and he will take some time off giving his time to doing good works as he cannot condone this behaviour in himself or others. He will also seek additional help from a psychologists to help him change his behaviour for the better. Chris Brown thinks he is rich and can do anything he likes and I hope the world say NO to this spoilt over indulgent child.

  10. Neelyo says:

Why such hate? He’s doing the same thing as 95% of celebs and politicians.

Personal responsibility doesn’t exist anymore, especially when money could be lost.

  11. Firestarter says:

It is always someone else’s fault with these types of people. It was Rihanna’s fault, it was his abusive father’s fault, it was the media’s fault, it is Larry King’s fault. When is it going to be HIS fault. I am so sick of celebrities blaming others for their behavior. Lohan blames thieves for not returning 2 million in jewels, Gibson blames ethnic groups for his travails, Cibrian blames “The fish bowl” he lives in, Gosselin blames Kate and the media. I mean I certainly wish I could blame others for my stupid mistakes, which I still make to tyhis day, but I own them, and while I am not proud of some stupid things I have done, at least I accept responsibility for them!

  12. Eileen Yover says:

Such typical narcissistic behavior-I said I’m sorry so let’s all forget it and make it go away so I don’t have to take responsibiliity for my actions.

  13. YoMomma says:

I didn’t understand a think he said. All I could get near the end I is ” guess I just wanted her to suck my d%&k. Maybe it’s too early in the morning for my rapper translator to kick in. BTW the blue bow tie and sweater were a press agents dream.

  14. Naomi says:

Are you trying to tell me that Chris Brown does not remember beating the crap out of her.Are you kidding me. I think he is just F.O.S.

  15. Anak says:

    He should be in jail!!!!!!

  16. original kate says:

first it was rhianna’s fault, now it’s larry’s fault…funny, that.

  17. fizXgirl314 says:

Isn’t it time we let this go? I just feel badly that there are so many “regular” women who get their asses kicked on the daily and nobody is there to give a shit cuz they’re not superstars… I know we’re making an example of this guy, but it bothers me that the average woman doesn’t get the same opportunities as these “stars”.

I get the impression that Rhianna is going to be fine. She has the resources to make it on her own and to heal…

I hope we learn to shun the assholes in our private lives as well as we’ve shunned this asshole in our public lives…

  18. Jen says:

No, fizXgirl314, it is NOT time to let this go. Look at it on the internet – still far too many people are still on Chris Brown’s side.

He decided to have his “apology tour” with Larry King because Larry King is two seconds from death and can’t be bothered to ask the tough questions. Easiest interviewer in the business, and Chris Brown still f’ed up.

He has repeatedly refused to take personal responsibility because he’s too selfish and doesn’t want the chance to give up his millions. Politicians, when they mess up, a lot of them lost their cushy jobs. However, the public is super forgiving (and forgetful) as long as you show REMORSE.

Whenever he doesn’t show remorse, all the websites, all the magazines (except for People, of course), all the TV shows remind you of just what he did to Rihanna, the bruises, the everything.

Please, that beating was like nothing he’s done before? Sure, maybe not to that extent, but the second he was sentenced we learned more about his violence.

He’s a tool and thank goodness he is taking all the rope he was given and is hanging himself with it.

  19. Rain says:

I’m not an advocate of violence, but I wish someone would give Chris Brown a dose of his own medicine. Punch him in the face, a la Perez Hilton. I’d love to see that!

By the way, he comes across as someone who’s not all that intelligent. He’s not very eloquent, and I don’t think that he chooses his words carefully or thinks about what to say before he opens his mouth. The more he speaks, the deeper he digs his own grave. He needs to learn when to stop.

  20. ogechi says:

    what an idiot!

  21. Niamh says:

A man can fall down many times in life but he’s not a failure until he starts to blame somebody else.

  22. kahlil says:

i agree, chris is a dumbass……but what i dont agree with is the fact that whenever domestic violence occurs, the man is always “guilty” and the woman is always portrayed as “the victim”. Nobody but chris and rhianna knows what went on in that car, and its bullshit how chris(although he is a douchebag) is being crucified. i guarantee that rhianna is not 100% “the victim” in that altercation.

  23. Jen says:

kahlil: People are more likely to believe that Rihanna is the victim because did you see her face? There’s a difference between slapping a chick who is attacking you and beating her senseless and choking her, biting her, and hitting her while DRIVING.

What did Rihanna do to deserve that level of brutality?

  24. Praise St. Angie! says:

    not 100% the victim?

yeah, that’s why her eyes were swollen shut from being beaten, she had bruises on her neck from being choked, and her abuser had NOT A SCRATCH ON HIM.

so, kahlil, when did you stop beating your wife?

  25. kahlil says:

St. Angie and Jen: Maybe i should rephrase my statement..yes i saw the pictures….no im not taking chris’ side….yes i do believe he should be punished. I DONT condone what happened. what im saying is, i bet this is not the first time there has been a fight in thier relationship. And im sure that BOTH parties have played a bigger role than the other in an altercation at some point in there relationship. my point IS, i dont think its fair that men are automatically guilty until proven innocent. thats it.

  26. Praise St. Angie! says:

    spoken like a fellow abuser.

“i bet this is not the first time there has been a fight in thier relationship.”

no, it isn’t the first time. she admitted that he’s hit her before. but whether or not they’ve fought before is irrelevant. IT IS NEVER OK TO HIT A WOMAN. and, during THIS fight, he did.

“And im sure that BOTH parties have played a bigger role than the other in an altercation at some point in there relationship.”

really? what makes you so sure?

and, again, irrelevant. regardless of who “started it”, IT IS NEVER OK TO HIT A WOMAN. If she hit him, he should walk away and/or call the cops and report an assault. he should NEVER hit her because “she started it”.

“my point IS, i dont think its fair that men are automatically guilty until proven innocent.”

in this case, your point is illogical. we saw the pictures. he’s admitted to hitting her. so, in THIS case, he’s guilty.

  27. kahlil says:

    “spoken like a fellow abuser.”

“so, kahlil, when did you stop beating your wife?”

…MY POINT EXACTLY…i’ve never put my hands on a woman and i never will. But because i disagree with how men are automatically charged with being the “domestic abuser” no matter what, im labeled as “a fellow abuser”, and a “wife beater”.

“in this case, your point is illogical. we saw the pictures. he’s admitted to hitting her. so, in THIS case, he’s guilty.”

I wasnt talking specifically about this incident, of course i know he’s guilty, my opinion is a general opinion of how men are “guilty” no matter what. After the incident the media started reporting that chris brown has been torturing her and/or abusing her their whole reltionship. Like she has been a victim in their relationship this whole time. Thats the picture that they were painting without facts. Now if that is the truth, then ok print it, report it. But if they dont know that and they are just reporting that based on this incident, i didnt think that was right. THAT IS WHAT I DISAGREED WITH!!!!!

I’ve seen both sides of domestic violence, so despite what you believe it IS possible for a woman to abuse a man the same way a man abuses a woman. and let me reiterate for people who only focus on certain parts…I DO NOT AGREE WITH WHAT HE DID! WHAT CHRIS BROWN DID TO RHIANNA WAS UNACCEPTABLE.

  28. Praise St. Angie! says:

um, you used THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE to make your point.

“so despite what you believe it IS possible for a woman to abuse a man the same way a man abuses a woman.”

Never said it wasn’t possible. In fact, I believe I specifically said that if she had hit him, he could have and should have reported an assault.

but keep backtracking, it looks so good on you.

    I stand by my assessment.
