Will Smith and Charlize Theron to join forces again for Hancock 2?

Will Smith jets to China, LA

You might remember Will Smith playing drunken superbeing Hancock alongside Charlize Theron’s cranky blonde one last year . They lived, they loved, they busted up a lot of buildings. Anyway, there’s going to be a sequel. Wake us when the gratuitous CGI goes away.

With Peter Berg set to return as director, two new writers hired to pen the script and star Will Smith consulting on the story, all the key players seem to be falling into place.

Yet we haven’t actually heard for certain that Smith and co-star Charlize Theron will definitely reprise their roles. In a conversation before he heads to the Toronto film festival with a Wayne Gretzky documentary, Berg confirmed for MTV News that both Smith and Theron will certainly be returning for more “Hancock” hero-dom.

“Everybody’s going to come back for a sequel,” Berg said in response to a question about the two megastars.

Smith and Theron, who played ageless superbeings who lost their powers when they were in the same vicinity (cue eye roll), haven’t exactly put their John Hancock on the dotted line just yet. But Charlize is excited about riding Smith’s…train. Noting, “‘Riding the Will Smith train is a really nice train to ride!'”

Jada Pinkett-Smith is said to feel the same way. The new storyline will reportedly introduce a third superhero into the mix, which also included Jason Bateman as Charlize’s non-powered husband.

I have never understood why they insist on making sequels to films where the first one was already pretty crappy.

  2. Spooge says:

holy crap… when did Will Smith turn into an old man??

  3. Sassy says:

I think these two got something going behind the scenes….Everytime they’re together, they can’t keep their hands off each other…you can sense the attraction between the two…..odd match, but opposites attract!

  4. Beth says:

I don’t see the point in making a sequel. It doesn’t call for one. I liked the first hour but the ending really sucked.

  5. Fat Elvis says:

    J. Harvey: Did you write for “Socialite Life” at one point? If so, I’m a huge fan and hope you’re a permanent fixture here at CB. If this is a case of mistaken identity on my part, then I suppose I suck in the worst way. But I figured I’d take a chance just in case.

So what were we talking about again?

  6. Seth says:

    Hancock made:
    USA – $230million
    Worldwide -$396million
    Total – more than – $600million
    DVD -$88million – and counting

I wonder why they would be stupid enough to make a sequel?

  7. Just a Poster says:

I guess I am the only one who liked this movie.

Oh well, I will be thrilled enough for everyone her.

  8. chshc says:

Wow I wonder which will be worse. Transformers 2 or Hancock 2.

  9. I Choose Me says:

Really, really liked the first half of the movie then it devolved into…I still don’t know what the eff that was. The plot holes, my sweet zombie Jesus, the plot holes!

Hmm, Sassy may be on to something. Charlize and Will do have a lot of chemistry and I’ve heard Will and the wifey are swingers.

Eh, who am I kidding? I’ll probably watch the sequel when it comes out.

  10. J. Harvey says:

Fat Elvis – yeah, that’s me. Good to be back writing for a cool site. Thanks.

    @Spooge

The Cult of Scientology has that effect on people. Expect to see some couch jumping from Will Smith and “your just glib” interviews ala Tom Cruise style in the not to distant future.

Google Lisa McPherson and read the recent investigative journalism article The Truth Rundown at the St.Petersburg Times (Florida) http://www.tampabay.com/specials/2009/reports/project/index.shtml

He looks like he’s about to pick a pocket or something.

  13. TwinkleToes says:

Aging sucks and is cruel but J.Harvey will rule…

  14. Praise St. Angie! says:

    J. FUCKING HARVEY!!!

You were the best part of Socialites Life – I am SO GLAD to see you on here!

Sure the current writers are pretty good, but you always make me laugh!

You need to do the Nip/Tuck recaps on here, those were the best!

“she should write this column.” LOL!

  15. Stephie says:

I like Wil and Charlize…. even liked Hancock enough (if I ignore the slapstick stupidity) to see the sequel. Bring it. Leave Jada at home tho. If she’s the additional super being I may need to reconsider.

  16. Francis says:

I think Will Smith is one of the best actors/entertainers of our time. Glad he is making a sequel.

  17. TaylorB says:

    Just a Poster,

Hey we all have our own tastes in movies/TV/music etc. To each their own, no body is judging. I couldn’t stand Titanic, yet it seems by the box office $$$$ most people loved that film. While I can appreciate her vocal range, I can’t stand Celine Dion either, but she is wildly popular. To each their own.

  18. Gypsy says:

Someone told me he looks that way because he is going to make a cameo in a in a movie to be released next year.

The guy has charisma and Charlize has beauty and a wild-child complex, they are a couple waiting to happen.
