Miley Cyrus: ‘Being a paparazzi is the most disgusting job imaginable’

fp_3652472_cyrus_miley_riv_
In the videos I’ve seen of Miley Cyrus and her family being filmed by the paparazzi, they’re invariably gracious, friendly and smiling. They answer the questions photographers throw at them and sometimes chat with them casually. (I used to watch the celebrity videos on Hollywood.tv, but now they’re invite-only. You can still see some on YouTube, and here is a video of their photographer chatting with Miley in April. She hugs him and gives him a high five and says she wishes he could have followed her on a trip.) Maybe Miley only had a good relationship with certain photographers who were nice to her, though, and given the other videos I’ve seen of paparazzi asking obnoxious questions of celebrities it’s very possible that Miley has heard some inappropriate things too.

Miley tweeted on Monday, September 21 that “Being a paparatzi [sic] is the most DISGUISTING job imaginable” and that “Being followed around by creepy photographers is NOT in the job description!” She’s only 16 and prone to exaggeration, so I guess I don’t need to point out that there are much more disgusting jobs that either involve literally gross things, or exploiting people in some way. Maybe she has a point, though:

Miley Cyrus claims her life is being ruined by the paparazzi.

The ‘See You Again’ singer has blasted photographers who follow her everywhere and has branded the profession “disgusting”.

The 16-year-old singer wrote on her Twitter page: “Being a paparazzi is the most DISGUISTING job imaginable.

“Being followed around by creepy photographers is NOT in the job description! YOU try being stuck inside cuz creepers are waiting for u. [sic]”

In reply to her comments gossip blogger Perez Hilton defended photographers, saying: “But some of them are your friends! You’re always chummy with that one videographer!”

Miley - who has sold over four million records - has previously revealed she has bad dreams about being photographed.

She said: “I have nightmares about paparazzi. I always have these flashing things in my dreams. They’re so scary.”

Miley has also released a song, ‘Fly On The Wall’, about the pitfalls of fame.

I think Perez is talking about the Hollywood.TV guy who Miley is chummy with. There’s video on X17 of Miley out at lunch on Monday before she made that tweet later in the day, and she smiles and poses with fans. One photographer asks her about her upcoming concert, and she grins but doesn’t answer him. It looks like just another day in Miley’s life. It’s likely there were a ton of paparazzi there that you can’t see in the video, though, as several of the agencies we subscribe to have those photos.

Does Miley have a right to be annoyed and to find the paparazzi “disgusting” or should she grin and bear it like she always does as it’s part of her job? We don’t know if someone said something to her that set her off, or if she’s just tired of being followed around and photographed all day. No matter how rich or famous you are, that’s got to get annoying. To Miley’s credit, she’s still being super nice and smiling and is just venting her frustration online and not at the moment she’s being taped. The girl may do some dumb things, but she’s very savvy in her way.

Miley has a new interview with the Associated Press that popped up for me right as I was about to publish this story. She talks about how she loves to get feedback on Twitter from her fans, about her new album, tour and acting career. When it comes to her personal life, she says that she’d like to keep more things private, and that people shouldn’t judge her parents for the way they’re raising her:

I think everything I do is exaggerated a lot. I think that no matter what, I think it is all about respect. People forget that when you are in the public eye, people forget you still have to respect people and you still have to (respect) their privacy. And also respect my family and trust the fact that my parents are raising me just like everyone else is raising their kids. They are doing it the way they want to. It is not for the media or for any one else to judge how they should or should not raise me.

  4. yeah ok whatever… how small minded… Because it effects me me me personally, it must be the most disgusting job ever… how about I can think of a few more disgusting jobs than someone who takes pictures? albeit, aggressively..

  5. The most disgusting job ever is a chipmunk cheeked, hillbilly singer who runs around thinking she is really all that, when she is quickly becoming a nobody.

Those paps keep her ugly mug in the tabs, and give her free publicity, so she should STFU!

You won’t be a tween favorite forever girlie, better enjoy the attention while you are getting it!

  6. And singing a song about sex while wrapped around a pole like a stripper in front of 10-15 year old children isn’t the most disgusting job imaginable? Pot, kettle, black, Mizz Miley. ;)

  8. Oh Miley. “Being followed around by creepy photographers is NOT in the job description!”

Actually, honey, it IS. If, somehow, you had gotten famous in the 1920’s and then fell into a timehole and zoomed to the present, fame intact, THEN I would sympathize. It wasn’t always part of the job… But you, child, you knew what fame was when you asked your Daddy to get it for you. No sympathy here.

  9. Exactly, if it wasn’t for the paparazzi, nobody would really care about her. I personally think she is very unattractive, and I completey agree with Princess Pea, “But you, child, you knew what fame was when you asked your Daddy to get it for you. No sympathy here.” Can I get an AMEN!

  10. AMEN. Being an underage pseudo-stripper that’s being pumped out by her dad is way more disgusting.

  11. she needs to get back in school and learn spelling and grammar. its a known fact that celebs call the paparazzi. interesting how many famous people are never “found” by them.

  12. Maybe the paparazzi should go on strike against taking any photos of anyone in the Cyrus family - for a few months - she won’t think they’re disgusting then. In fact she’d probably be calling them. Why is that children idolize her? I just don’t see it. Her show, just promotes all of the things I don’t want my children thinking, beauty is best, intelligence is ugly… no thanks, my kids are not allowed to watch this show.

  13. Her daddy is definitely pimping her out. Way back when, he was a one hit wonder, and then we heard nothing of him. Since he’s pimped his daughter out, his name is back in the public. How interesting.

  14. It’s a trade off for the enormous income she has. If she was an ordinary person with a 9 to 5 job she wouldn’t have the paps following her around. Otherwise she should quit complaining. Fame and money=paparazzi..

  15. I actually like Miley’s recent songs. Miley always talks and poses for the paps. This new hate for them doesn’t make sense.

  16. That’s funny. I think being unattractive, untalented, and grossly overrated just because your dad was a mulletted one-hit wonder nearly twenty years ago is the most disgusting job imaginable. Either put up or shut up, Miley.

  17. Actually the most disgusting job is being second fiddle to your brat daughter

  21. yeah, following Miley around is the most disgusting thing I can think of.

  22. awe, come on, I’m not a Miley fan but she does have a point. I could never live with myself knowing my job was to follow someone else around hoping to get a picture of them doing something remotely interesting. How fulfilling can that be? Especially a 16 year old? It does borderline on stalking and creepy.

  23. Why all the defense of papparazzi here? They are out of control and many of them are just plain jerks. You may not like Miley, but it doesn’t mean she’s wrong! (obviously “most” disgusting is an exaggeration, there are worse things)

  24. maybe if celebs weren’t drunkard, druggie, weirdo, whore–LIKE folks–the paps would have nothing to capture on film.

and they would be out of work BUT its not the case.

She looks like pure trash in that pic..
    sooo young, its sad!

  25. These are pretty vicious comments from some people, I thought this site was monitored to keep it from being abusive. She is a kid however old she may present herself to be and as the writer of the article says is usually pretty nice about the photographers but apparently there are some pretty strong emotions attached to this moderately successful teenager.

  26. She is a young girl, a successful young girl I must add, who has expressed herself in the shortest possible way “the twitter” out of bad experiences and tough times she faces whenever she pops her head out in the public. Well! I think she has the right of expressing herself without being judged as she is the one directly affected by the doings of these paparazi’s in the name of their profession….at the least she does not spit, abuse or break their cameras…way to go girl…..

  27. I think being Bill Ray Cyrus - his entire, storied career - is the most disgusting job imaginable. Either that, or the poor stylist who has to wax his chin version of the Brazilian.

  28. Okay- I am so sick of young actors & actresses complaining about photographers. You wanted this job BECAUSE of the attention, and now that you have it, you don’t want it? Please. Awww, poor baby, she made 17 trillion dollars this year. Boohoo. (If you didn’t want fame, why not do the other billion jobs that don’t involve it?)
