Scarlett Johansson tries to sing on Ellen

Just Jared [via Gossip Rocks] posted this video of Scarlett Johansson rehearsing the song “Realtor” and performing the song “Shampoo” with Pete Yorn on Ellen’s show. Scarlett hits a few false notes ahead of her performance, but once she starts singing it’s not bad. Scarlett has her second album out, Break Up, with Pete Yorn. Her first album, a solo set of Tom Waits covers, was widely panned. I kind of like the song that Scarlett and Pete perform, “Shampoo,” and find it catchy. The female singer doesn’t need a great voice to carry off that tune, which is good for Scarlett because she doesn’t really have one.

Scarlett’s interview with Ellen aired Monday, and she revealed that she loves to sing and loves making movies, but then said that she’d just as rather open a bakery. Go ahead, Scarlett, no one is stopping you from having a music career or producing baked goods. Whatever you’re into.

Life is good for Scarlett Johansson! The gorgeous actress just celebrated her first anniversary with hubby Ryan Reynolds, she’s released a new album, and she’s starring in one of the most anticipated flicks of 2010 — “Iron Man 2.”

“Hopefully, I won’t be crucified for saying this, but I think the second one is even better,” ScarJo joked. Johansson slipped into a sexy, skintight catsuit to play the role of anti-heroine Black Widow opposite Robert Downey Jr.

Johansson teamed with musician Pete Yorn for the album “Break Up.” She tells “Extra,” “I’m really passionate about this record. The duo performed on “Ellen” on Monday. “Music always puts a smile on my face,” says the star, “I always loved to sing since I was a little girl.”

But Johansson, 24, says she doesn’t plan on leaving the big screen for a music career. “I fortunately don’t think that I’ll have to make that decision. I love making movies. It’s all I’ve ever known. It’s what I’m most passionate about.” Then, she mused, “If I had to choose, I’d just open a bakery.”

Why is it that some ultra-successful people romanticize difficult, low-paying jobs? I’m not saying that actors don’t work hard, just that bakeries typically don’t make a lot of money and involve just as many headaches as a Hollywood career without the luxurious padding If that wasn’t a throwaway comment it would be easy enough for Scarlett to start a bakery with the capital she has to invest. (While I was doing some googling for this post, I found this amusing site called “Cake Wrecks” with photos of both terrible and awesome professional cakes. This is what Scarlett should aspire to. Her voice could be considered the musical equivalent of some of these cakes.)

I don’t dislike Scarlett Johansson, and she seems pretty decent in interviews. Apart from her misguided music career and stuck up husband she seems ok. I’m just not feeling the music career on the side thing. There are much worse hobbies I guess, especially when you look at some of her contemporaries.

I like her voice, but only for this type of song. I don’t think she could pull off anything else.

Eh, it isn’t bad and it isn’t good, but great that she is sticking to this singing thing. I thought it was going to be a one shot deal, but look, she has a second album/cd coming out. What do I have?

It’s OK for a singer to have a bland voice like this – IF they know how to use what they have to their advantage and can write amazing songs and amazing lyrics. So far, Scarlett has not shown any ability in these areas. I hope she does more than rely on the talent of others to give her a platform to foist her singing hobby upon us.

Well as a professional musician working for 10 years who is now beginning to get some success.
I find this a blantant abuse of fame. She is famous for her acting and so in turn can become a “musician” just because she likes singing, when realistically she is mediocre at best and the money they wasted on her lack of musical talent just means an talented musician will go unrecognized. What a waste. It’s no wonder no one cares about music anymore.

Scarlett can’t sing to save her life, but at least, we’ve got to admit that she sounds much better in Break Up than in her horrid debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head. She looks so awkward singing live. I think she is a serious case of stage fright. Pete, well, he’s gorgeous. And he sings beautifully.
Random thought, but if I was Ryan, I’d be totally uncomfortable with my wife acting all mellow around Pete, especially because Scarlett has so much in common with him. They’ve known each other for a long time too. And we know how fickle marriages in Hollywood are. I’d stay alert. lol

No comment about her voice. But her hair/face drives me crazy – she loves to pull her hair back but I think she’d look better with her hair down.

I love how celebrities pretend they don’t really like being famous, like it’s beneath them.

“I’d rather just bake cookies all day.” oh yeah, sure you would…

And her singing it average at best.

what a step down for Pete. I liked the girl who sang on his track “Young Folks”. That girl could sing and had a cute voice. I can hear scarlett’s cheek implants vibrating. Not good.

How did Scarlett ever get to sing on Ellen’s show??? Scarlett can’t sing worth a s*** but she has gorgeous hooters… maybe she is bi-sexual and offered Ellen a piece of her fake t*ts to let het TRY to sing one her show…(notice I said “TRY” as the operative word here) Plus I think Scar and Pete are “collaborating” on more than just a bad album-he said himself it wasn’t her voice-it was her “attitude”-in other words the sexuality she ooozes- that made him decide to use her for this project..I’m sure Scar and Pete have been f***ing up a storm…. I predict Ryan is going to throw a fit and that he will divorce Scarlett for being such a whore… and I will personally throw a party when Scar and Ryan DO divorce in another year or so- and they WILL….

wow, all of you are assholes. I think she has a neat voice. It’s light and jazzy and the entire album is very unique. But, you’re right. Lets listen to someone with real talent like Katy Perry or the Jonas Brothers. She is an amazing actress and props for going off and trying something new. I know most the people who comment on this bitch blog are only brave enough to bash people online.

BOYCOTT PETE YORN he himself is a racist.
Pete Yorn is not worth fans love, admiration and devotion.save your money for someone or something more worthwhile.you may need to one day.
Pete’s songs them self tell a person what his thoughts/feelings are about other races.

shame on Scarlett Johansson(her performance) what type of woman is she? say what they will about Courney Love or Brittney Spears. Scarlett Johansson isn’t half the woman they are. People it’s not 1930′s Pete Yorn is nobody to adore/admire.he doesn’t deserve the respect.
