Kate Gosselin says she’s been ‘targeted, torn apart’; renews nursing license

You may think that those two subjects in the headline are related, and they might be, but only if Kate runs out of options. It’s not like she’s going to stop putting herself out there because of the negative things that are said about her.

The newly separated mother of eight mentioned briefly on Ellen Degeneres’ show this morning that she’s been vilified by the press, but she didn’t go on at length about it or elaborate. Considering the things that have been said about her, you can see her point. She also alluded to her husband’s pitiful media tour without lowering herself to mention him by name. As for whether she plans to date again or not, she says she’s not going to talk about it but that she does realize that if she does it’s going to be picked apart by the tabloids. I kind of like the way Kate handles herself with the press, but I still find her to be a cold bitch at times. She’s less annoying than her filandering “poor me” husband and that has definitely worked to her advantage the more he’s put himself out there.

Just because she’s not wearing her wedding ring much of the time anymore doesn’t mean that Kate Gosselin’s back on the market. In fact, the reality-show mom says it’s not going to happen while she remains the focus of so much media attention.

“I’m not thinking about it, but the thought has crossed my mind at some point [that] it’s going to be scrutinized,” Gosselin, 34, tells Ellen DeGeneres on an episode of her talk show set to air Wednesday. “Let’s not talk about it.”

DeGeneres agrees: “Exactly, and some guy is going to have that same concern.” Gosselin says she tries to live her life surrounded by cameras – and “the 18 cars that follow me around” – by thinking of her eight children.

“I just know that, on TV or off TV, I’ve been very much targeted and torn apart,” she says. “I’m telling you [from] the root of my heart everything about me: I am a mother first. I will always be a mother and I would die for my kids if need be … My focus is them. It’s not the paparazzi. My focus is not what trip I can go on or what shows I can do as a result of this thing. This is my job. This is my paycheck and so this is what I do.”

But the kids, Gosselin says, are getting used to the idea of Kate minus Jon – and a wedding ring.

“At some point, I talked to the kids it came up very naturally and I said I’m not going to be wearing this ring very much longer,” she says. “They said, ‘Oh, why?’ I said, ‘Because I’m not going to be married to Daddy anymore,’ which, of course, hearing that I don’t think was fun for them.”

[From People]

Kate said on Monday’s very special episode of Jon & Kate that she was hoping for some kind of TV career and would like to appear in film, making voicing a character in an animated movie. She’s clearly keeping her options open, though, and applied to renew her PA nurse’s license earlier this week. It expires at the end of the month. The NY Daily News reports that Kate also said on Monday’s show that she would consider returning to nursing as a backup. She’s also said in the past that she would work at McDonalds if she had to in order to support her kids. That’s not going to happen, and Kate’s not going to go work in a hospital again either. She’ll work the media angle for the rest of her life, or until her kids are old enough to convince her that she’s ruined their lives.

It’s always good to remember that your kids are going to pick out your nursing home.

  2. buellblaster says:

Hell will freeze over before she goes back to being a nurse.

I could not have said it better.

  4. Lantana says:

Don’t you have to keep up with continuing education credits to keep your nursing license current? And when is the last time she was a nurse? HELLO? My sister has been a nurse for 14 years, and she consistently works 12 hour shifts. By the time she gets report at start and gives report at end, it’s a 13 or 14 hour day. And Kate is pretending that she’ll do all this while raising 8 kids as a single parent? Give me a break.

  5. Firestarter says:

The only thing torn apart that I can see is her fricken hair!

  6. Alecto says:

lol. i tell my mother that all the time

    edit: post was for kaboom

  7. Kerri says:

At least she has options – Jon on the other hand – i don’t know. I know he had a job before but …. i still don’t know.

I just think they are milking this way longer than need be. Get over it already – you are getting divorced, it happens, sh*t happens, move on. I don’t need to know every squalid little detail.

  8. MDD says:

Kate, your fifteen minutes is running out..

  9. TwinkleToes says:

You can work as a nurse on a on-call basis and make a decent living. They pay you if you are called in or not. Private nursing brings in some bucks but to go back as a regular shift nurse, no. A lazy person (not that she is) cannot be a shift nurse. That is only for the young and in shape. The lazy types doing shift work always end up being bitchy and resentful and you should point it out to them the next time you run into one, but with a box of chocolates in hand.
Kate wants to be a HW actress but is smart to assume her 15 mins. are likely almost up. Mayuki Heene is the next “it” mom.

  10. Guest says:

and again…she’s so full of it.

  11. Juice In LA says:

What’s so wrong with being a cold bitch sometimes? I just don’t get it. Seems like we equate making the tough decisions and trying to steer this family’s ship (which is 4 times the size of noah’s ark if you get my drift) with being a bitch.
Whether its Kate, or Martha Stewart or any strong woman who stands up for herself, inevitably the “Bitch” word gets tossed into the frey.

Isnt this cliche getting old or tired yet?

  12. mollyb says:

Wow. I’ll believe it when I see it!

also–you have a tiny little misspelling in your post. It’s philandering (not filandering).

  13. pebbles says:

Your last line (“She’ll work the media angle…) sums it up perfectly….
Can’t believe that she is considering a movie career as an alternate to her gravy train stop. I have a cousin who just graduated from Juilliard and can’t find commercial work. The nerve of this no-talent wench.

  14. Jillian says:

I always thought it was bullsh@t about her wedding rings. Most kids don’t notice stuff like jewelry. A ring on the left hand means nothing to a child. I can chop off all my hair and color it black and my daughter would not notice.

  15. california angel says:

“I would die for my kids”
    ??????????

and then she exploits them and chooses to stay in the media even through all of the scrutiny?

Oh the nerve of some people…

  16. KelBear says:

She really enjoyed being a nurse and once worked on a maternity floor. She enjoyed it so i dont see why people are hating on the fact that she said she would do it again.

  17. Lauren says:

My next door neighbour is a nurse, and she works 12 hour shifts, sometimes longer if they need someone to fill in for an emergency surgery. I cant imagine Kate giving up her glamourous lifestyle to wear scrubs & clean bedpans! Kate is almost publicly pleading for a tv/movie career…

  18. lena says:

i’m just glad the kids won’t be filmed anymore…maybe get a little normalcy

  19. Cinderella says:

Seriously, would you want her as your nurse? She’s probably mean as hell.

  20. original kate says:

i don;t think she’d be a very good nurse. she would be a clean one, but not a nurturing one.

  21. Meg says:

“Seems like we equate making the tough decisions and trying to steer this family’s ship (which is 4 times the size of noah’s ark if you get my drift) with being a bitch.”

One can be strong and dignified without being nasty or “a bitch,” like she is now and was for years on her show with her husband with her verbal abuse, disrespect and belittling of him.

  22. lucy2 says:

People are ragging on her for the nurse thing because we all know she will never do it. She’s simply doing it for more publicity and because she thinks it makes her sound good – she’s going to prepare for a “real” job while her ex runs around like an idiot – that’s the image she wants to project.
She’s gotten a taste of the celebrity life, and she’s one that I see hanging onto it for dear life, no matter what it costs. The only way I ever see her going back to a job like that is in a number of years when her 15 minutes are FINALLY over and no one pays her any attention at all anymore, and she’s blown through all of her cash.
Do the kids go to school or are they home schooled? Because if they go to school or have any other activities with other children outside their family, I’m sure they already know all about their parents failing marriage and at least a good portion of the tabloid junk – kids talk.

Yes, totally this is true my wife is the only one working now and she’s on call nurse.

  24. flo says:

The kids are the ones that have been exploited instead of being protected by the one that gave birth to them. She is a disgrace and I wish she would drop off the face of the earth.

  25. Matt says:

I thought it was a joke about her saying she wanted to be in a movie but evidently now Jon wants to be an action star. And I want to be a musician but I know I don’t have the talent. I think this woman is the most narcissitic person I have ever seen. Nothing wrong with having self confidence but she takes it to another level. Next thing you know, she’ll say she wants to run for president.

  26. tinarog says:

boy..some of you are clueless about the nursing profession. I work in a skilled nursing facility. We have shift workers, as needed nurses, only weekend nurses, nurses that work half shifts while going to school. We also are in contact with home health nurses that have very flexible schedules. So, no, you don’t have to work 12 hours days when your a nurse. It can be a very flexible profession.

Also, I rarely ever see a nurse change a bed pan. They leave that for the aides.

  27. lin234 says:

It’s funny she thinks she can jump from reality show to the movies. There are many actresses from successful tv shows that have failed to make that leap. Not to mention that her reality show is on the bottom tier when it comes to reality shows. The people on the Hills or Kardashians have more “star” power than her.

LC when she was on the Hills was ultra popular in the media but I’m sure there would be a lot of snickering if someone like LC wanted to act in a movie much less Kate.

People are always saying she needs to keep earning the big paychecks because of her 8 kids, their college, yada yada yada. But it’s so obvious she needs it for her own upkeep. Those tacky nails with her hideous hair don’t come cheap. Also, she needs a minion of slaves (not her kids)she can exert her control issues over. There are plenty of large families who don’t exploit their kids and manage to get by on regular salaries. So she made 8 kids, society doesn’t owe her anything. She knew the possibility of having multiples and went ahead with the procedure. She is in no way special.

Perhaps this would have happened sooner or later but Kate and Jon are responsible for “inspiring” loonies like Octomom who have as many children as possible for a family reality show. They are both disgusting human beings and parents.

  28. flo says:

I just watched her on Ellen adn wanted to vomit, she says things need to be kept private. Why the hell is she on national tv if she wants privacy. I am even more disgusted by her refusal to accept responsibility for sticking her family in the public eye while she is on her quest for and Oscar. Everthing she says is rehearsed bullshit, she cant pay her bills but she wants 8 diamonds surrounded by pearls. I want to vomit

    Yep and yep.

Please go away already….your 15 minutes of fame was up 30 minutes ago.

  31. Juice In LA says:

Meg- See I disagree that she was a bitch. I dont know of a single mother/wife who would suffer Jon’s complete frat boy antics and lack of ability to grow up and act like a parent/husband without snapping at him.

Bottom line: during the last year of the show and certainly now this guy acts like a petulant spoiled child, and all she did was treat him like one.

THAT does not make her a bitch. That makes her human.

  32. ashley says:

well put. Jon was the biggest kid of all and she put up with it long enough. When a man asserts his power he’s just being “the man” but when a woman does it she’s labeled a bitch.
My opinion is jon acted like a little bitch and Kate had to take control of her family because of a lazy layabout husband.
She’s doing what she has to do to support her children and an estranged husband with horrible clothing taste and a whore of the week fetish.

  33. I say who cares anymore. I agree she is just full of herself and so is John. Both of them use the media. Both of them say they are always doing it for their kids, but their kids just want their parents.

  34. Goddess711 says:

I’ve got money riding on the fact that John is going to go for the spousal and child support. He’s already effed up the income for both of them. He’s a zero, McPukes wouldn’t have him as junior fry boy but there isn’t a hospital around who wouldn’t take Kate on as a nurse. This leaves…who would look after the kidlins? It’s not like you can afford nannies on a nurses’ salary, nor can you afford the house payments/ bills. I think Jon Gosselin needs a good old fashioned ass whoopin or 3. He’s completely ruined life for the kids in all ways right now – what kind of dink does that?

  35. JANE says:

    BOO-HOO
    WHERE ARE THE REAL TEARS?
    TEAM JON!

  36. QB says:

She put herself out there to be torn apart by the media , people did not pay any attention to her or cared that much about the show until she got her wacky haircut , started talking about octomom, released her book and did her media tour , rumours started that she was banging her bodyguard and got divorce and the other media tour started.

  37. stacy says:

@ QB- Jon admitted to starting those rumors about the bodyguard b/c he wanted the attention off him and Hailey.

I agree that she went about things the wrong way (when it comes to certain things), but if I had 8 kids I didnt plan on and got stuck w/ a lame ass, wanna-be frat boy liar for a husband i would be bitchy too. Hell I have 0 kids and a hot fun sexy husband, and I can STILL be bitchy. I give the woman props.

  38. QB says:

@Stacy , but she did all the other stuff.

  39. Anastasia says:

This is strictly for sympathy. And it’s not working.

  40. mollination says:

I will admit and agree that I find Kate to be much more savvy in her handling of the media, and she almost comes across as pitiful/likable……except for the fact that we all know what she’s really like (from her t.v. show, backstage footage denying kids water, obsession with fame and money, etc.) so all of her interviews ring entirely false.

    Media savvy? yes.
    Genuine? No.
