Michael Lohan reportedly gets Lindsay to see a counselor

Life and Style is reporting that Lindsay Lohan may have finally taken an important step towards not dying. I’m not going to say towards getting her life back together because that’s a long road for her. But she may have at least decided to take an important first step: according to the magazine, she’s in counseling. They also claim that Michael Lohan releasing all those mortifying tapes of Lindsay is what got her to do something. And they’re giving him credit. A truly chilling thought.

Lindsay Lohan’s father has won the battle to get his daughter into counseling – the actress is reportedly meeting with a mentor up to three times a week.

Michael Lohan leaked taped recordings of phone calls he’d had with his daughter in a last-ditch bid to get her to enter rehab and kick an alleged addiction to prescription drugs. The plan backfired when Lohan and his ex-wife Dina staged a public campaign to vilify the worried dad for his actions. He has since promised not to leak anymore recordings.

However, it seems his efforts have driven Lindsay to a counselor.

A source tells Life & Style magazine, “She goes two, sometimes three times a week. This is not a program or substance-abuse counselor or police officer watching over her; it’s someone to talk to in a confidential state.”

“She knows, and everyone knows, this is a huge stepping-stone for her – get in there, talk to someone, figure out what’s going on and then try to fix it. First comes the diagnosis.”

[From Starpulse]

I can give you a diagnosis right now: cray-to-the-Z. I wonder what axis that goes on in the DSM-IV? There’s probably a whole separate Lohan section in there. If this story is true – and let’s keep in mind, the original source is Life and Style, so it should be taken with a grain of salt – but if it’s true, it’s hard to wonder if it was worth it. There are so many better, more mature, parental, rationale, supportive ways to get your messed up child some help. Publicly embarrassing her and releasing all sorts of super private information is not the way to do it. The relationship between Lindsay and Michael – whatever it was – will never be healed now. It likely never would have been anyway, but now there’s no chance. He’s proven without a doubt that there is nothing he won’t do.

But if Lindsay is in counseling, at least that’s something. I’m not saying in any way that Michael did what was right or what he had to do. It’s inexcusable. So I’m going to pretend that if Lindsay’s in rehab, it’s because she came to some realizations all on her own, completely apart from Michael. Because he absolutely should not get what he wants as a reward for behaving that way.

Fortunately for LiLo, her dickwad dad is wrapped up helping to ruin Jon Gosselin and he doesn’t have time to pick on her right now.

Nice first step, LiLo, if it’s true. I hope her mentor is working on her bad habit of walking off with other people’s jewelry and stuff.

If this is true, then I wish her good luck, because she used to be quite talented. But honestly, I’ll believe she’s healthy and sane when I see it. She’ll probably stop going to counselling (if she’s even going) in a couple of days anyway.

  3. Firestarter says:

Next step is get her to the shower.

  4. wow says:

    Good. He should join her.

  5. Ruby Red Lips says:

Am I too cynical in saying this is a PR stunt in an attempt to to clean up her public image…

    Hope I’m wrong

If she’s in counseling I doubt it’s because of Michael. Lindsay strikes me as the spiteful type. She would do the complete opposite of what Michael wanted. Although the story says it’s not the reason, she probably does have to go to therapy as part of her probation.

Ok this is disgusting, but I read wow’s comment right after firestarter’s and was like WTF… Why would you say that Father Lohan should join daughter in the shower.

I don’t think Lilo will last in therapy – she needs to be bound by chains and kept away from drugs or go to some bootcamp-rehab. She is in too deep to just go for counseling.

  8. Morgs says:

she has that bulimic chipmunk look in a lot of these photos.

She probably wore a corset to keep her starving 3rd world child stomach in check.

Damn does this girl look beat.

    Grrrrrr WGAF!!!!

  10. Firestarter says:

I was not saying the father should go to the shower with his daughter! Hahahaha! OMG! I was making a joke, and not a sick one. The girl looks like she needs a good cleansing!

  11. ViktoryGin says:

It is absolutely disgusting that he’s attempting to convince people that his concern for his daughter outweighs his ego.

It’s sad that if this story is true that it is Lindsay herself that decided on her own that she needs help. No thanks to her train wreck parents who should have intervened tastefully rather than trying to pick at her crumbs in their desperate attempts for fame.

Some people REALLY shouldn’t be allowed to procreate.

  12. Babs says:

I simply cannot understand why the only person who cares about keeping Lohan’s checks coming in is her dad. Doesn’t she have any cousins who want their cut?

Man, I would beat the meth right out of that bitches hand and demand she get a job at gun point if she was even so much as my 2nd cousin.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again .. *what* wasted talent!!?? I lost 90 mins of my life I’ll never get back watching that Mean Girls travesty thanks to such comments. Ninety whole minutes! And my parents told me that life was a wondrous journey .. all lies .. disillusionment ensued. I’m doing better these days, taking it one day at a time and trying to find joy in the simple things .. flowers, the smile on an upturned child’s face, video taping paper bags flying around in the wind. But I (sob) haven’t been able to (hick) turn on the tv ever since. .. Lindsay Lohan ruined my life in just (sniffle) NINETY MINUTES.

    LOL@ Lita!

  16. Lita says:

That’s okay that you LoL@ me Bohdi. Part of my Mean Girls recovery therapy is learning to laugh again too.

I practice by watching all the greats; Carrot Top, Carlos Menscia, Bob Hope, Jim Carey, Family Guy. To be completely honest, it’s not going that well.

  17. Diagnosis for what? Alcoholism is a self-diagnosed disease. Until you admit that you’re an alcoholic who needs help, you’re a drunk. Until you admit you’re an addict who needs treatment, you’re a junkie. Having a therapist is great, but she needs a sponsor to help her work on Step 1: We admitted that we were powerless over alcohol/drugs & that our lives had become unmanageable.

    Three words: Borderline personality disorder

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borderline_personality_disorder

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders fourth edition, DSM IV-TR, a widely used manual for diagnosing mental disorders, defines borderline personality disorder (in Axis II Cluster B) as:
A pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image and affects, as well as marked impulsivity, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

    1. Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. Note: Do not include suicidal or self-injuring behavior covered in Criterion 5
    2. A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation.
    3. Identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self.
    4. Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., promiscuous sex, eating disorders, binge eating, substance abuse, reckless driving). Note: Do not include suicidal or self-injuring behavior covered in Criterion 5
    5. Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, threats or self-injuring behavior such as cutting, interfering with the healing of scars (excoriation) or picking at oneself.
    6. Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days).
    7. Chronic feelings of emptiness
    8. Inappropriate anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights).
    9. Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation, delusions or severe dissociative symptoms

… I think she meets with 5 or more. Ding, ding, we have a winner!

Are Life and Style actually on his side? They don’t think his own actions are what vilified him?! Lord.
