Tiger Woods’ wife Elin Nordegren about to sign a deal with Puma

A modeling picture of Elin pre-Tiger

Revenge is sweet and may come in the form of a seven figure modeling contract for the gorgeous spurned wife of Tiger Woods. TMZ reports that sports label PUMA, a competitor of one of Tiger’s main sponsors, Nike, is about to sign a deal with Elin Nordegren Woods. It’s a smart move on PUMA’s part and one that paints them as much more media-savvy than Nike. Nike has pledged to stand by Woods despite what will surely be known as the biggest celebrity scandal of the year. In fact Nike’s chairman, Phil Knight, recently called Tiger’s massive cheating debacle “a minor blip.” Knight added “but the media is making a big deal out of it right now.” I would hardly call fourteen mistresses and counting a “minor blip.” What are Eliot Spitzer and Bill Clinton best known for despite all that they’ve accomplished? In Tiger’s case we’re talking a dozen plus women, many willing to talk to the press. This is no “minor blip.” PUMA realizes that and is going to throw it back in Nike’s face:

While Tiger Woods is losing sponsors left and right, TMZ has learned his wife, Elin Nordegren, is “very close” to signing a deal of her own … and the company happens to be Nike’s arch-enemy — Puma.

An official from Puma — the athletic wear company — has confirmed they are in “internal discussions” to sign Elin as a spokesperson for a new Swedish-inspired clothing line called Tretorn.

The rep tells us Puma is after Elin because they feel she’s “a good brand fit.”

We could not reach Elin for comment.

[From TMZ]

Elin has been spotted out a couple of times near her mansion in Florida. She’s looking healthy and happy and is no longer wearing her wedding ring. It’s thought that Tiger is spending time on his yacht, ironically named “Privacy,” nearby. Surely there’s at least one mistress who’s willing to wait out the storm with him and see what’s in it for her.

There were reports last week that Elin might retreat to a home she recently bought on an island in her native Sweden near Stockholm. (Some photos are below.) There were also moving vans spotted at the Woods’ mansion yesterday. Elin is still around, though, and is letting us know with her slight grin and ringless finger that she’s doing fine. We might soon see her in a national ad campaign confirming that and no matter what her taglines say she’ll be poking fun at her husband by landing a major sponsor while most of his bail.

If she signs the deal, this surely means that they are getting divorced. I hope she signs it!

  2. Kayleigh says:

“Phil Knight, recently called Tiger’s massive cheating debacle “a minor blip.” ”

Ok, so what would be a big deal? He murdered all the 14+ women he slept with? I never liked Nike brand, but that was just dumb.
I guess in the athletic community its ok to cheat on your model wife for some cheap hookers who will rat you out for a shot at fame.

  3. YT says:

I don’t know how true the Puma offer is or if Elin would sign with them, but meanwhile it’s a great story! Karma! If nothing else, Puma will get positive PR from the story.

  4. DoMaJoReMc says:

I would definitely buy PUMA brand instead of NIKE if this story is true. All because of newfound HATE for Phil Knight, and ongoing LOVE for Elin Nordegren. She is one of my other girl crushes! Gotta go clean out my shoe closet of all the trash! LOL!

  5. Oh My says:

    Let’s see

    Kobe Bryant accused of Rape
    career status great shape

Michael Vick persistent, long-term animal torture
career stats pretty darned good shape

how many celebrities have had DUIs, cheating scandals and they’re OK but Tiger Woods cheats on his wife like a tom-cat and his status is permanently damaged?

And this at a time when people become celebrities for bad home-porn, even worse “reality” TV and all sorts of general skankdom? Sorry, as horrible a thing that Woods did to his family, he is not a religious leader or a right-wing pundit/zealot telling others how to live their lives. This has just gotten way out of control

As for PUMA signing Elin Nordegren as a spokesperson for a Swedish themed sports line. . . since she’s not an athlete, I think she looks like a gold-digger who may have been more enamored with Tiger’s bankroll than him if she were to accept this deal

  6. Ursula says:

Elin looks hot in those photos. I doubt this is true, if it was, it is very petty. Elin doesn’t need money and she doesn’t need to turn her pain into some media game. Let her take her kids and live quietly for a while. Then she can get a job in the fashion industry, write for some magazine, remarry and move on with her life. She has never been a media barf and she shouldn’t start now.

  7. snowball says:

I’m with all the Tiger bashing, Nike trash talking, etc. and I’ll be happy if Elin gets this opportunity (assuming it’s what she wants).

But why throw away some perfectly good shoes, etc., just because of their endorsement issues? If Puma and Nike made a certain kind of shoe you’re looking for and the Puma shoe sucked really bad and the Nike shoe fit perfectly, was an excellent design and a great price. Are you going to cut off your nose to spite your face and buy the Puma shoes?

I’ve got a pair of Nikes that I adore. Just because Tiger’s a lying, cheating pig, I’m not throwing them out. Nor am I tossing out my Hanes stuff because Charlie Sheen and Michael Jordan (both who have had pretty bad scandals themselves) endorse them.

Nike is sticking with Tiger because it CAN. They’re a huge merchandizing juggernaut and with a past history of scandal-ridden spokespeople, I’m sure they’re counting on Tiger to rebound from this in a year or so. They’ve got the money to wait and customers who aren’t going to care about Tiger when they’re out buying shoes.

  8. Guttersnipey says:

Well, damn, if she’s NOT gonna be a Trophy Wife anymore (I hope), I think she SHOULD be thinking about making some money, and why SHOULDN’T she look into spokesmodeling? She’s a gorgeous woman, and she was gorgeous before she ever met Tiger. Use whatcha got.

Modeling is a job, too, don’t forget. It might not be as involved as hitting a ball into a hole with a long stick-thingie, but it’s a job, nonetheless, and I admire Elin for embracing her newfound notoriety and making something from it. Many women would buy their own island and hide or something. Not Elin. Good for her.

Also, I WILL be buying Puma if this is true. Nike can suck a choad.

  9. Firestarter says:

Tiger was branded as a family man and wholesome image, the others you have mentioned were not. That is where he comes under fire for what he did from his sponsors.

Did anyone catch the interview he did right before the scandal broke? I think it was dor either Australian or British tv, where he says his family comes FIRST, then golf, then everything else in life. He also went on to say that his family was very important to him, and that spending more time with them was and always has been his main priority!
He also said he needed to slow things down in order to give them the attention they nereded! What a bunch of crap. So statements like that and doing what he did with, so far, 14 other women, are reasons his sponsors are dropping him. He is a liar, and no one wants an admitted liar selling their products for them. It reflects on their product in a negative light.

As for Elin and Puma- GREAT! While his endorsements dry up, she seems to be gaining some. Sweet justice!

  10. bros says:

sorry, i find this to be really cynical for a sportswear company to try and capitalize on the demise of this couple’s relationship. it is an essentially private affair that affects their family-i just think its pretty crass all around.

  11. Lee says:

I agree that Tiger’s endorsement problems won’t disappear. It’s the lying, bottom line. No advertiser wants to get anywhere near the optics of an epic liar shilling their product.

And if Elin should find modeling endorsements, well good for her, though I think she’s actually a pretty private person who may prefer to stay out of the lime light. The modesty of the house she’s bought says a great deal about her.

  12. Goddess711 says:

Elin’s stunning compared to all the hooker trash. I hope she does the PUMA thing and has her picture everywhere. While his life goes down the toilet with RU he can have the constant reminder of the better wife he used to have. Awesome idea!

  13. Embee says:

    Brava Elin!

I admire her standing on her own two feet by getting a job on what looks like the eve of a divorce. How exactly does making her own money cause her to be a golddigger? It proves the opposite, in my opinion. And it will prove much to her children in the future.

Her choice of home (if that’s it) confirms what a class act this lovely, lovely woman truly is.

No more Nike for me. Period. I’ll wear what I have but no more. Prefer Adidas running shoes anyway, and everyone’s making gear.

  14. hmm says:

Oh My, I’m with you. The breadth of this story is getting ridiculous. Tiger is being treated worse than a host of celebs who have had scandals attached to their names. If RDJ can survive being a heroin addict and a convicted felon, then I daresay Tiger can rebound because he was unfaithful to his wife. For goodness sake, Charlie Sheen, also a drug addict who paid over 50k for hookers is now on a family sitcom. Meanwhile, Tiger is being treated like he’s OJ Simpson. He didn’t break trust or faith with anyone except his family and he deserves the same treatment that David Letterman received. Everyone lined up around the block to assert that Dave’s personal life had nothing to do with advertisers or his career, but now Tiger should lose everything because he cheated on his beautiful, blonde wife? Ugh, I hate hypocrisy and double standards.

  15. Eileen Yover says:

Oh My: How can you say Michael Vick’s status is in pretty good shape? you obviously don’t live near my home, Atlanta, who banished his ass from ever stepping foot on our football feild again. So he was allowed to play football again? They all do unless they are in prison for life. It’s his job. Tiger was hired to represent alot of products based on his reputation. I worked for one of the sports marketing companies he signs with regularaly and we wrote up his very first Nike contract. In the contract it specifically states that he can not have any legal troubles what-so-ever or Nike has the option of canceling the contract and getting their money back. I’m sure most of the other companies had the same clause….sensitive enough that they can cancel him with even a HINT of scandal. It was his JOB to keep his dick in his pants and live the life he claimed to have. He was paid BILLIONS to do it. So yes-there’s a backlash. It’s hard to sit back and watch such a disaster when you can hardly get your kids Christmas presents this year and this dumbass ruined his squeaky-clean image and the billions he signed up for. Sometimes people just want there to be ONE good guy, who is what he claims to be, for their kids to look up to. Its upsetting to see hero’s come crumbling down one after another with such HUGE lies. Don’t sign up for the life if you can’t live it.

  16. Praise St. Angie! says:

To add, Firestarter, from what I can find out, Kobe’s biggest endorsement right now is for…yes, you guessed it, NIKE.

and Vick’s (from what I could find out) ONLY sponsorship deal right now? yup, it’s NIKE.

so, seems like NIKE has a thing for controversial athletes. either that or they have horrible taste in endorsement candidates.

  17. Feebee says:

@ Firestarter, Tiger’s interview with with New Zealand’s Sky TV. Murray Deaker got the interview through Woods’ NZ based caddy Steve Williams.

I think the whole Tiger story seems bigger than it is because we’re all talking about it and the fact that the guy’s image is so 180%. No-one’s saying his career is over. Some are suggesting it should be but it won’t be. There’s always initial hysteria then the road to recovery will be completed. It’s happened before, it’ll happen again.

  18. wow says:

Now this is more like it, Elin. Make your OWN money. I hope this is true. Moving on and making a success in her own right is the way to do the “revenge” thing. Not taking golf clubs to a douche’s face. Rock on with this route,Elin.

As for the house. I’m with others who have said elsewhere that it’s not about the house – its about the land it sits on. I seriously doubt Elin will live in that house. It more than likely will be torn down and have a new one built.

Tiger – yeah, he’s being dragged through the mud and being made an example of even more so than other well known (and those not so well known) cheaters. But eh, he made his bed… (no comments from the peanut gallery 😉 ) He’ll rebound – they all do. The example someone gave upthread about Charlie Sheen is a great example of this. His career skyrocketed. And that other actor, Robert DOwney Jr.? Drug busts many times over, and he’s won awards and have done really well for himself after all of his scandals. They were given many opportunities. Hmmm… maybe you guys are onto something. Epiphany time for me. If Elin continues to stay with him, then I guess I shouldn’t really have a problem with it either since that situation affects her life and not mine.

But anywho – she rocks right now if she is in fact trying to make her own money.

  19. MsTriste says:

Eileen – what interesting points you make.

Team Puma! I’ll never buy Nike again.

  20. Oh My says:

@ Eileen I live in Philly (now a former Iggles fan) and sadly, the Eagles hired him and are having a great season. Vick already has an active endorsement deal, I expect he’ll be getting more in the not too distant future

  21. Firestarter says:

    @FeeBee-Thanks for the info.

@Praise- You are right, Nike has no problems with anyone and their behavior, as long as they can sell shoes, they are ok with the faces that rep their Co.

  22. jeannified says:

She is so beautiful, and he is such a fool! I hope she DOES sign that deal and gain some independence from Tiger, even though she’s gonna be financially set enough to have any independence she wants. Good for her, if she can make her OWN money!

This setting looks appropriate for her new location. My husband and I took a Baltic cruise several years ago, and went through Swedish waters. We saw lots of little islands, where one house would be located and where a family would live. Many islands were dotted with one or two homes, and families lived privately. Good for her for being strong and doing what she needs to do! She’s Swedish, so naturally this makes sense for her, for privacy reasons, and to be close to her family.

  23. Eileen Yover says:

Oh My: I had heard he was playing for another team…but he was out of sight out of mind for me once he left ATL. He doesn’t deserve another chance either. I wish sports and Hollywood weren’t so forgiving. I miss the days of the importance of a wholesome image for anyone in the spotlight. It’s all about the all mighty dollar today.
None of this bothered bothered me until I had children. I think about back in the 60’s when parents hated the Beatles! Can you imagine the horror of the likes of Paris Hilton, Chris Brown, Tiger Woods, Michael Vick, and the others back then…even 10 years ago! We reward people for getting peed on in sex tapes by giving them their own shows! Its a crazy world!

  24. Firestarter says:

Oh hell Eileen, you can practically decapitate your ex wife and still be accepted because you carried a footbal around for several years.

Athletes can do anything and not really suffer, unless you are like Ray Carruth, and actually have to spend the rest of your life in prison. My point is, athletes get paid an ungodly amount of money for entertaining the masses, and people have no problem with the money they earn, the things they do that us mere mortals would be crucified for doing, and the live the lifestyles that they live. They are athletes, it’s okay. These same people though, complain about rich doctors, who actually do something like saving lives, and have educations that they had to pay for, for making big bucks.

Athletes are put on these ridiculous pedestals for no reason, while there are so many amazing people doing good in this world, saving lives, curing diseases and trying to make life better for us all who get no money or recognition. The few noble professions that do get paid high dollar (dr’s) sums, are criticized for being greedy and rich at the expense of people’s ill health. I just don’t get it. What is so great about being good at a sport that it merits people turning a blind eye to terrible behavior and actions?

  25. the truth says:

as hot as she is tiger still cheated just to show women that looks dont always cut it,

  26. oxa says:

I think Puma should sign her to a line of clothing with the phrase “Just a Minor Blip” it beats the hell out of “Just do it” and the sales in Sweden alone would be fantastic.

  27. DrM says:

Make your own money girlfriend AND take the D*ICK for everything as well…

  28. Oh My says:

@ oxa – I think you missed your calling (unless you are a marketing exec)

  29. Xiufetish says:

Nike uses children to make their products in developing countries. What’s a little infidelity by comparison?
