Kate Gosselin ‘thrilled’ with divorce settlement, ‘folk hero’ Jon says it’s not over

TMZ reported yesterday that there was a final settlement determined by the arbitrator in the Gosselin divorce. The arbitrator’s ruling will now go to the divorce judge, who is expected to sign off on the division of property and finalize the divorce. Radar Online followed up with a report from Kate’s camp that she was very happy with the outcome, which is unfortunately sealed so we don’t know the details. Her lawyer tells Radar that the divorce is about to go through and a source is quoted as saying “She couldn’t be happier. Kate is thrilled.”

Jon’s scamming lawyer is saying that the divorce is far from over, though, and tells E! Online that “That’s still a work in progress. We’re waiting for a final decision.” Maybe the verdict isn’t in yet, but it sounds like a done deal. Mark Heller, who represents John, also said his client isn’t broke and repeated his ridiculous claims from yesterday that Jon is an in-demand celebrity, adding that he’s like a “folk hero”:

Despite word that the former reality fun couple’s divorce was “imminent,” the lawyer for Jon Gosselin tells E! News that it’s not likely to happen until after the calendar flips.

“That might be a little premature,” says attorney Mark Heller of a TMZ report that the arbitrator overseeing the case had made a ruling. “That’s still a work in progress. We’re waiting for a final decision.”

Next week marks the six-month anniversary of them filing the divorce petition in a Pennsylvania courtroom to dissolve their 10-year union.

While he’s not setting a timetable on the divorce, there is one thing that Heller is more certain about.

And that would be the state of Jon’s finances.

Heller says there’s no sign that the octodad is hurting for cash after a court order was issued last week for him to stop making paid public appearances in violation of his TLC contract.

“I don’t know anything about him not meeting his obligations,” says Heller. “Jon has met all appropriate legal obligations.

“Jon, this past year, was the most photographed man in America. He was included in more magazines than any other television reality celebrity. He is tremendously in demand by the public. Whenever I’m with him and we go out, fans rush to him to take pictures with him and their children. He’s become a real America personality and sort of folk hero, and I think he has a very bright future.”

So what is our favorite “folk hero” working on now?

“Jon is focusing on his children for the holiday,” says Heller. “He is buying them special presents and looking forward to preparation of celebration. His focus primarily is not on the litigation, but on his family. It will be a very joyous time for him and his children and he is embracing the moment.”

[From E! Online]

Adding credence to Kate’s side of the story, Jon was seen shooting off a gun yesterday outside his property in Pennsylvania. It’s unclear what he was shooting at exactly, but you can probably guess what he imagining. As some of you wondered in the comments yesterday, how much longer is Jon going to be able to afford his estimated $3,000 a month NY city bachelor pad? He’ll have to find a cheaper place nearby and I doubt Kate is going to let him live over the garage again. Pretty soon his paparazzi buddies will stop coming around and his tabloid contacts will stop returning his calls. If only he had treated some of his hookups better he might have some company in his misery. He can alway console himself with the “fans” willing to support their “folk hero.”

Ugh. Both of them need to just….. go away.

  2. Dorothy says:

Yeah he is like Johnny Appleseed or Davy Crockett. Maybe John Denver?? Total folk hero…

  3. DoMaJoReMc says:

I still don’t understand why Jon doesn’t move into their house that is (still) for sale in PA? They’re still paying for it, so he might as well get some use out of it. Maybe then he can take his kids to their old home and not have to switch with KHate every time it’s his visitation turn.

Let’s hope the finality of this divorce will be the FINALITY of this idiot ex-couple. It has been such a pleasure with them out of the headlines!!!!!!!

    AGREE??????????

  4. Firestarter says:

I love all of these so-called “men” now focusing on their families.

Why did they spend time focusing on their families when they were married?

  5. Cathy says:

DoMaJoReMc – I think they finally sold that old house.

  6. bella says:

    @ Firestarter –

That’s what I’ve been saying! Why wait until the marriage and family have been destroyed by their behaviour to finally “focus on being a better husband and father”? Why not focus on it while it matters, when the family is still intact? I just don’t get it…

  7. snowball says:

Jon is buying the kids “special” presents. Is that supposed to mean in previous years he bought them crappy presents?

“He’s become a real America personality and sort of folk hero, and I think he has a very bright future.”

I can’t decide whether to laugh like a maniac or vomit the muffin I just ate. Maybe I’ll laugh unti I vomit.

  8. TaylorB says:

Jon is a ‘folk hero’? Really?

Anyone who thinks Jon or Kate, or any other ‘reality star’ is a ‘folk hero’ needs to have their meds adjusted.

  9. lucy2 says:

“Maybe I’ll laugh unti I vomit.”
    LMAO.

I think they’re both just horrid, but hopefully all the kids money (for future therapy sessions) is safe, and everything else coming in is controlled by Kate, as she seems the only one capable of managing it somewhat well.

  10. Just a Poster says:

    Folk Hero??!!??!!

If this is what now qualifies as a Folk Hero…

    🙁

  11. Goddess711 says:

He’ll probably buy them each a plastic dollar-store musical instrument, teach them how to play and get them a recording contract for Christmas. That would net him a bunch o’profit off ’em. The VonGosselin Family Singers!
Thank GOD he ruined the Santa thing for them, no time wasted on drawing “I OWE YOU” coupons for him!
“Folk Hero” my ass – there’s nothing folksy or heroic about him; what an insult to those who truly ARE heroic – you know, the Dad’s who have their heads out of their asses and focus on the wife and family?

  12. Cinderella says:

Folk hero? More like Broke Zero.

I think I’ll just go straight to vomit mode.

  13. Sudini says:

@Firestarter (& Bella) – thank you for saying that, I’ve been thinking the same thing! These dirtbags only decide to “focus on the family” once they’ve been caught chronically disrespecting it. Or once they have nothing better to do…

  14. boo says:

In taking stock of all they have accomplished this year, TLC can include on their list, “destroyed reputation of father of 8 children that made us a $hit ton of money”. I have read so much bad stuff and practically homicidal blog posts about Jon Gosselin and I don’t get it. One of the most recent “news” items about him is that he “gave up custody and Kate has primary custody”. There is no such thing as primary custody in PA. Kate dumped him over a year ago and he’s dated maybe four people (tremendously poor taste in woman, kate included, but who hasn’t dated crappy people?). Kate and TLC suck.

  15. oh hey says:

If you really, really want these people to go away, tell the h’wood press to stop writing about them. These as well as other reality show PARTICIPANTS are NOT celebrities in any way, shape or form. Seriously, having a 8 kids is red-carpet worthy? Really?

  16. Ana says:

    She looks like the grinch!!!!

  17. snowball says:

I wish I could see names that get obscured by the reply #.

Anyway, third above me – if PA is anything like WI, parents usually get joint custody, with one parent getting “placement.” In our case, it meant that I had my son more than half of the time (it was more like 80%), so I was the one who made decisions about medical stuff, school things, etc.

A lot of people who haven’t been through the whole custody thing don’t understand the difference between custody and placement and they think they’re the same thing.

  18. Sara says:

Kate is just wrong period, she will never make it on tv again and she is a hateful and cruel person to everyone around her. TLC grow up, if that is showing America what a learning channel is then TLC is done. Kate Gossein no more should be your great idea and keep her off tv, she is hated and with good reason. Gods Speed Jon and children.
