Rebel Wilson named Sacha Baron Cohen as an a–hole & Cohen responded

Let me put this at the top of the post because I know people will bring it up: the Sussex Squad was very mad at Rebel Wilson last year because she described meeting Prince Harry and Meghan in Santa Barbara through a mutual friend. Rebel complimented Harry but said that Meghan is not “naturally warm” and that Rebel’s mother was asking Meghan all kinds of rude questions too. Rebel described the conversation on Watch What Happens Live and she knew exactly what she was doing. The Sussex Squad pulled out all of the receipts on Rebel, making sure that everyone knew every single time she publicly f–ked up or was a complete a–hole.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, Rebel has written a memoir called Rebel Rising. She’s been shilling for the book for months, and she’s been insinuating that she’ll name names about some of the douchebags she’s worked with. Well, she’s already named one name: Sacha Baron Cohen. And he’s hired some kind of crisis manager to shut down Rebel’s book.

Rebel Wilson is naming the person she refers to as an “a–hole” in her book. On Sunday night, the Pitch Perfect actress, 44, posted an Instagram Story that read, “I will not be bullied or silenced by high priced lawyers or PR crisis managers.”

“The ‘a–hole’ that I am talking about in ONE CHAPTER of my book is: Sacha Baron Cohen,” she added of the upcoming Rebel Rising: A Memoir. Wilson has said previously that she felt uncomfortable while making the 2016 film The Brothers Grimsby with Baron Cohen, 52.

A rep for Baron Cohen tells PEOPLE in a statement, “While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby.”

In a video shared on Instagram earlier this month, Wilson said there’s a chapter in which she names a man she previously worked with whom she considered a “massive a–hole.”

“When I first came to Hollywood,” the Australian actress and comedian began in the clip, “people were like, ‘Yeah, I have a no-a–holes policy that means, like, I don’t work with a–holes.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I mean, that sounds sensible, logical.’ But then it really sunk in what they were meaning by that, older people in the industry. Because I worked with a massive a–hole, and, yeah, now I definitely have a no-a–holes policy chapter on said a–hole. It is chapter 23,” added Wilson. “That guy was a massive a–hole.”

Many long-time Rebel fans/watchers are already pointing out that Rebel has consistently referred to an unnamed actor/comedian who made at least one gross proposition, and that person was likely Cohen. I’m also not surprised that Cohen is already lawyering up and issuing statements – his brand of “comedy” is out of style these days, but back in the day, he thought he could get away with anything. Anyway, on this narrow issue, I believe Rebel Wilson.

SBC seems like the kind of actors who takes method acting way too far and it’s especially shocking because he does it in the name of “comedy”.

    • Olivia says:

I don’t agree that SBC (or any actor) “takes method acting too far” or does something awful “in the name of comedy”.

Calling it ‘method acting’ or ‘part of the job gone too far’ minimises the bad behaviour which is actually harassment, sexual assault, abuse of power, bullying, manipulation and coercive control.

It also propels the notion that “genius men” sometimes make others uncomfortable in the process of excelling in their career – like it’s an unfortunate side effect of brilliance.

But it’s not. These are terrible and twisted men who don’t like rules, boundaries, being told what to do, or being told ‘no’. It’s always about getting their needs met above all else, and having power and control over others. They lack empathy and perspective.

Of course this behaviour spills over to their work life. But it’s who they are at their core, not just at work.

There are countless other qualified people looking for a job, who aren’t abusers and have perspective. Hire them instead.

Ahh a classic example of “it can be two things”

  3. JeezLouise says:

I’m no fan of Rebel Wilson but I do believe she’s telling the truth about SBC. It is so, so gross.

  4. tealily says:

I have no trouble believing that SBC did this and also the Rebel Wilson kind of sucks.

    • Startup Spouse says:

I know someone who worked for RW and can confirm she’s awful.

But RB being awful doesn’t give SBC a free pass. That’s unacceptable behavior no matter what.

  5. Chaine says:

He’s nasty and appallingly racist and I totally believe her.

    • MaryContrary says:

He’s a jerk. Not sure how he’s racist.

      • Nikki says:

Both Borat and The Dictator are predicated on incredibly harmful Islamophobic and anti-Arab racist stereotypes. It’s blatant and unacceptable, particularly from someone who has taken a very public stance about condemning anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism is also totally unacceptable, but it’s beyond hypocritical for him to speak on it when he literally made his career out of dehumanizing Muslims and Arabs.

  6. teehee says:

You have no idea how T I R E D I am of men being completely inapprorpiate, assaulting women, harassing women, doing illegal things (assault), and then laughing cos its for art or sport or fun.

I am SO GD tired of this happening over and over again. And in the end, these guys finally get outed as true predators after several decades of this criminal behavior is allowed to just gon on without criticism.

    The f**

This is like watching Doctor Doom vs Red Skull fighting in front of a fiery lake.
    I’m rooting for the lake…

  8. Sum says:

He is a rich kid who hides behind “poorer” people. Some years ago he got called out along with the rest of that era. They are very rich British people who pretended to be working class so they can be cruel for comedy sake. I loved “little Britain” but once you find out the actors are laughing AT their characters the show feels different. Mean spirited.

SBC “da Ali g” especially feels mean-spirited in hindsight.

Sbc presented as a jerk ages ago. He treated anyone who was on his level bad. It was his tv/movie/show/appearance. His future wife really auditioned to be his wife.

    • Smart&Messy says:

The Kazahstan jokes were the same in Borat. So very condescending and disrespectful.

  9. sevenblue says:

Yeah, Rebel being a sh*tty person doesn’t mean that she didn’t get sexually harassed by a powerful man in the industry. There is no gain for her to lie about something like that and a lot of people guessed before that the unnamed person was Sacha. It is also no surprising he did this in front of other sh*tty men who didn’t think to stop him or interfere when they saw Rebel said no repeatedly.

  10. Rnot says:

How can we be surprised? He’s made a career out of making other people uncomfortable. He enjoys crossing boundaries. This is not a person I’d want to spend time around in real life, and I wonder why people like watching it on screen.

  11. ML says:

I have the feeling that other people have been unhappy about SBC? I appreciated his take-down of Giuliani, but he’s not exactly controversy free?
RW isn’t controversy free either, but she’s called out his behavior during that movie for a long time. I’m inclined to believe her on this.

Interesting, presuming that what she’s saying is true (which I tend to think), is that he’s always been a boundary- pusher. This is apparently okay internet he has to deal with the consequences of pushing the boundaries too far. Then it never happened.

  12. SCAR❤️❤️❤️❤️ says:

    Takes one to know one.

    • La Dolce Vita says:

      @SCAR
      How so?
Creepy slimeball McG directed RW to touch Tom Hardy’s body and did not tell her TH had not been told in advance. Whereas no director instructed Sacha Baron Cohen to sexually harrass women – he chose to do that all by himself.

  13. freddy says:

Oh look, two unsufferable people being unsufferable to one another…..HA

    • La Dolce Vita says:

      @freddy
Well, one of them is a known misogynist who has sexually harrassed women before – Jessica Simpson being one of them.
I don’t know what RW is supposed to have done?

  14. mary mary says:

Wonder what filming Bachelorette was like!

  15. alibeebee says:

they are both pretty awful and offensive. i feel like its the pot calling the kettle .. she’s in a glass house throwing stones. they’re both lame.. rebel isn’t winning any brownie points with me. and well sacha is the same . i could care less

    • SAS says:

Yeah, it’s coming out now that Rebel herself has inappropriately touched/ groped co-stars.

Not excusing how disgusting (cannot express enough!) SBC is but she has her own history of making workplaces unsafe that should be shared as well. She’s foul.
