I can’t explain this at all. Is it possible that when Nicole Kidman is around her countrymen, she loosens up, gets drunk, dances around and acts genuinely cute? Is it possible that she thinks us Americans will only like her if she looks and acts like an immovable wax statue? I have no idea. But I want more of the Aussie Kidman, this girl in the photos and the video (below), paying tribute to her countryman and friend Simon Baker at the G’Day USA 2010 black tie gala over the weekend. Nicole and Keith Urban “performed” a song for Simon and the assembled group, and the result was… amazing. Keith did most of the singing while Nicole bounced around, dancing in a really sweet and graceless way, acting ridiculously silly. Here’s the video and The New York Daily News’ take:

The Oscar Award-winning actress, who can be seen on the big screen now in the musical “Nine,” helped husband Keith Urban pay tribute to fellow Aussie, Simon Baker, the hunky star of the CBS hit drama “The Mentalist.”
The pair’s playful tribute came on Saturday during a celebration in Hollywood of all things Australia at the G’Day USA 2010 black tie gala.
“Give it up for Simon Baker,” the couple crooned. “A guy’s guy, a girl’s heartbreaker. He’s a sexy babymaker, and secretly a laptop screensaver.”
The always elegant Kidman wore a pastel jewel-encrusted dress that could be called shrimp-on-the-barbie pink as she showed off her pleasantly deep pipes.
If the “Moulin Rouge” star’s dancing at times seemed stiffer than a forehead full of Botox, Kidman appeared to be having a very, very g’day.

Aw… doesn’t this make you remember the old, fun Nicole? Moulin Rouge and To Die For and acting silly with costars like George Clooney and Ewan McGregor and being girlfriends with Sandra Bullock? That old Nicole was an underrated comedienne and her face moved and she was lovely. Nowadays… well, let’s just say that I miss the old Nicole. So, what caused this sudden splurge of warmth and silliness, really? Is she drunk? Probably. That might be why she thought her makeup looked amazing at the Golden Globes.

I love it. And I suspect a lot of her joy de vivre got lost in basically being under fire from scientology for most of the decade. From the moment Tom Cruise got back into the cult, they were basically looking for anything they could shoot her down with.

I like Goofy Nicole too. Girl needs to take some dancing classes though. She’s got Whitney Houston’s crackhead moves.
She was funny pre-Tom in some of her Aussie films. Then she turned into his silent Barbie doll. After the divorce, she let loose for a little bit, now she’s back to dollface. I hope her new marriage eases her back to her old self.

@Bitter- You know I usually agree with you, but I have to say on this point, not so much.
Scientology is a very scary and violent group of people, especially the higher ups. If you have read or listened to the videos of those who have left the church, you know that Xenu does not mess around.
Tom has a lot of money and pull in both Hollywood, and of course within the church, so I do not think it is too far fetched to think that Nicole was “told” how things were going to be, and she could either get along or expect some bad things to happen. I would not put it past that cult to drum up fake things about her in an effort to try and ruin her reputation, thereby making a court battle end in favor of Cruise, who likes to keep a “clean” image.
We don’t know what went on in that marriage, but I do not think she left without a thought to those children. Just my opinion though. I do not trust Cruise and his Sciento freak friends. and I am sure Nicole didn’t either.

@BB, what are you talking about? Connor and Isabella? Because for every picture of one of them with Tom, there are pictures of one of them with Nicole.
You rarely see Connor anymore with either of them, does that mean both of his parents dumped him?
Personally, I think the two, Isabella especially, just don’t want to be photographed and knowing the paps follow both parents all over, they probably avoid being seen with them and when they’re living with them, they do their own things. I remember the original custody arrangement was 6 months with Tom, 6 with Nicole and depending on filming schedules, they might break that up a bit.
Considering how old they are now, isn’t it reasonable to think they’re not hanging all over either parent anymore? If the paps wanted pictures of them, why aren’t there any to prove your theory that they only live with Tom?
She didn’t abandon anyone but Tom.

Nicole Kidman was involved with Scientology for years during her marriage to the GMD, and allegedly attained an “elite level” in the religion, but became disillusioned with it. It is rumoured that her decision to quit Scientology led to her divorce from Tom in 2001. But Scientologists have been threatening to make public her audit tapes which would divulge a whole lot of nasty stuff in both her and Tom’s background, which she doesn’t want, so Tom and the senior Scientologists are using this to keep control of her two older children. It’s an evil, evil organization and you basically don’t f*ck with them.

@ Firestarter: I personally feel women in abusive relationships are blameless – until they willingly bring children into the equation. then they are mothers, not just helpless victims. they are responsible for their children who did not choose to be in that unfortunate situation. so she should have fought for her kids despite whatever smut Tom and his $cientology gang threatened her with. at least that way her kids would know she cared.

@Betty- I do understand what you are saying, but we don’t really know that she didn’t fight for those kids. Cruise has many people under his control, he even controls a movie studio, so it isn’t too far fetched that he controlled other things as well.
I do know that she does see her older children with Cruise. They visit her but I guess have a life with their father and do go to school. Maybe Nicole didn’t create a big battle with Cruise out of love for the children and a desire to allow them to have some sort of stability.
Hack, I don’t know. My opinion, which isn’t worth too much. I like the woman and I do not see her as a selfish woman who abandoned her kids, but that is just me.

Nicole and Keith met at the G’day Australia event a few years back. They seem to be so happy! I think Australians know how to have a very good time.

Just because Nicole is not photographed with her kids by paparazzis doesn’t mean she never sees them. Nicole is much more private than Tom Cruise, who is constantly in front of the cameras with Suri.
You notice the same phenomenon with Tom Brady’s son. The baby is constantly being photographed out with Brady’s wife, model Gisele Bundchen. He is rarely photographed with Bridget Moynihan, his mother, although he spends most of his time with her, because Moynihan avoids the paparazzi while Gisele welcomes them.

Considering her husband is an alcoholic and has done rehab twice now for drink and drug problems, it is not really supportive or classy of Nicole to get drunk in front of him.

I found your heading on the above article misleading, offensive and inappropriate where you have stated ‘Nicole Kidman acts silly, funny & drunk at tribute to Simon Baker ‘. It appears that you have forgotten her husband Keith Urban is a recovering alcoholic. Nicole loves and respects her husband, surely getting drunk would be totally out of character for Nicole especially as she is very well respected throughout the world. The truth is Nicole would not do this to her husband who has had a significant struggle with alcohol for many years until he completed his rehabilitation several years ago. Keith has acknowledged continually and publicly that he would have not been able to recover from his alcohol addiction if it wasnt for the love and support of his wife. It truly astounds me how anyone could alledge that Nicole was drunk at such a very important event such as ‘GDay USA Black Tie Dinner.’ There are many sponsers and representatives from Australian business who spend hundreds of thousands of dollars every year putting together the popular event of Gday USA. I feel that the word ‘drunk’ being stated in your article is unfair by making this negative assumption that Nicole was drunk at the GDay USA event. Nicole was not drunk and has always been extremely professional and yes, she knows how to have fun. Nicole is a representative of Unifem ‘Say No to Violence Against Women’ do think that this would be a positive way for her to act when she is a role model for women around the world. You may not remember the painful experience Nicole went through with her husband Keith shortly after they were married. Keith bravely faced his demons with the whole world watching and made a positve choice to make a change with facing his inability to handle alcohol. This means that Keith admitted to the world and his wife, family and friends that he was out of control with his drinking problem and sort out to change his life forever. Keith did this with tremendous courage whilst attending rehabilitation for 3 months treatment and now is a successful recovering alcoholic. Surely you could see that Nicole was simply enjoying herself amongst friends and people that she knows. I feel that Keith and Nicole would have put a lot of time and effort into putting together their tribute for Simon Baker who is a long time standing friend and of his wife Rebecca. I would appreciate it if you could please consider my comments as we all need to take responsibility of the negativity we project on to others especially those who are in a more fortunate and priveledged position such as Nicole and Keith.

I LOVE Nicole Kidman and thought her effort with Keith was brilliant. Having lived in Australia (and now NZ) for 5 years (to whence I am soon returning WHOO HOO) it is a wonderfully relaxed, easygoing place and her sense of humour and fun reflects that culture…which I argue is MILES away from Hollywood, literally and figuratively

I have never seen her “stiff” as many people like to say. I just think she is a shy person who once she gets to know you a little opens up and seems more fun. I have also been accused of being stuck-up by the people who don’t spend a lot of time with me. Some people are just like that.

Whether or not Urban relapses will never be a result of if his wife drinks or not. It will be on him. So to suggest that she should never take a drink because of her husband’s addiction is a little severe. He needs to learn how to live in a world where alcohol exists. And something tells me as someone in the entertainment industry, he’s used to it.
