Brooke Mueller is in rehab, but is it for crack addiction?

Yesterday, there was a lot of confusion as whether or not Brooke Mueller was headed to rehab for her alleged drug and alcohol abuse issues. Her mother claimed she was going to a “spa” while other sources were like “no, it’s rehab, and it’s for crack.” Because allegedly, Brooke is still on the pipe, according to Radar’s sources. Anyway, as the day came to close, I kind of figured out why there was so much confusion – Brooke is going to rehab, but the facility just doesn’t call itself a rehab. Easy! Seriously, it’s a facility where, according to her lawyer, Brooke can get some “rest” (sobriety) and get “competent medical care.” Meanwhile, the facility’s website describes itself as a place with a “comprehensive wellness program providing exemplary care for individuals who dream of recovery from addictive disorders or co-dependent behaviors.” Hmm…

Charlie Sheen’s wife Brooke Mueller checked into a North Carolina “wellness program” following her release from the hospital’s intensive care unit, a source tells PEOPLE.

Her lawyer, Yale Galanter, confirms she’s in a “facility where she can rest, rest, rest” and get “competent medical care for her mind and body.” He declines to give the name, but says despite her history of drug abuse, she’s not being treated for addiction.

“Brooke did not enter a drug rehab program,” Galanter tells PEOPLE. “She has been drug free for six months. Since Christmas day, she has been assaulted by her husband, almost lost her life, and developed pneumonia. She was released from the hospital a couple of days too early, so she needs to be somewhere doctors can treat her if necessary.”

Mueller, 32, and Sheen, 44, got into a Christmas Day fight in Aspen, resulting in domestic violence charges and a protecting order against the actor. Mueller subsequently was hospitalized for what was described as a severe wisdom tooth infection that led to pneunomia. She was released Monday.

A source close to her family tells PEOPLE she’s now staying at the Two Dreams Outer Banks center, which is described on its Web site as a “comprehensive wellness program providing exemplary care for individuals who dream of recovery from addictive disorders or co-dependent behaviors.”

The treatment includes therapy and medical evaluations along with “therapeutic options” that include massages, yoga and Pilates, according to the Web site.

“Brooke is having a massage right now,” Mueller’s mother Moira Fiore tells PEOPLE. “I insisted she come with me for some stress reduction based on suggestions from her doctors. … I don’t want my daughter to have a nervous breakdown.”

Mueller and Sheen are scheduled to appear in an Aspen, Colo., court Feb. 8 for a hearing on whether to modify the protective order.

Entertainment Tonight first reported Mueller’s stay at Two Dreams.

Radar also got Brooke’s stepfather Jon Fiore to “confirm” that Brooke is in this rehab-but-don’t-call-it-rehab facility. Fiore told Radar that Brooke “is recognizing that she needs help and she can’t do it on her own.” After some back anf forth between media outlets and Brooke‘s lawyer (who sounds really dumb), Fiore went on to say:

“She is there [in the NC rehab]. But it’s a recovery place, and it is in a resort setting and the picture I’d like to paint more is that she’s seeking help she wants to, she’s dealing with this. This is a lot to deal with and I commend her for finally, you know, she couldn’t go back to the house, what is she going to do? With all the problems and the stress?”

“She’s getting help and her mother is with her. I commend her for that. The positiveness of this is that she is recognizing that she needs help and she can’t do it on her own.”

“The main thing is it is all about the kids. It really is. These kids are gorgeous, I miss them dearly. I was with them for a month straight and they’re just incredible kids. They’re young enough and hopefully this will all be behind them. The kids are still in California with Charlie and the nanny. “

[From Jon Fiore’s statement to Radar]

I do think it’s important that Brooke gets help, because I think the girl has some issues. Granted, not as many issues as Charlie, but she seems to want to make it competitive. Do I believe that Brooke was still on the pipe just days ago? Not really. My guess is that she’s a recreational drug user and an alcoholic with major emotional issues. I feel for those two babies.

You need a license to drive, a license to vote, a license to hunt, a license to get married. You even need a license to be declared legally dead. But anyone can have children.

  2. JulieNewmar says:

Resort/Rehab/Recovery SPA .. who cares what they call it, get help lady.

  3. Roma says:

Crack smoking destroys your lungs. Girl had pneumonia. It’s not a far stretch to think she got pneumonia from smoke crack… I’m buying it.

  4. Mommy says:

“Brooke did not enter a drug rehab program,” Galanter tells PEOPLE. “She has been drug free for six months. Since Christmas day,…” So she’s been sober for six months…so how old are her kids? And what did she expose them to while pregnant??

  5. Pearl says:

“She’s been drug free for 6 months”?

Huh? How old are her babies? 9 months or so I believe. So now we’ve learned that in addition to *possibly* going to rehab while she was pregnant, now we hear that she’s most likely continued to have issues with drugs in the first few months of their lives. Nice.

    Poor babies.

Kaiser, I think you’ve nailed this one.

  7. lucy2 says:

OK, so one parent is a drug using, possible alcoholic, co-dependent nightmare. The other is Charlie Sheen. Child services, get over to those babies NOW.

  8. bella says:

I have a 7 month old baby boy, and there is no way on God’s green earth I would have used/done ANYTHING harmful while I was pregnant and/or nursing. What the hell is wrong with this woman?! Good thing this “non-rehab rehab spa” treats addiction and co-dependence, because she’s got both in spades. My gosh, someone (other than her mother) take custody of those boys; neither parent is fit. And so much for the adamant denials of her using and being in rehab during pregnancy. Guess we can call shenanigans on that one!

  9. Why would her lawyer say she’s only been clean for 6 months? He should’ve said she was in rehab to deal with co-dependency issues, which fits with her statements of wanting to workout her marriage/money situation. Hopefully being away from her babies is the bottom she needs to hit, for their sake as well as hers.

Two infants and this pathetic excuse for a Mother is making it all about her. And I don’t believe the Christmas allegations against Charlie–he had every right to be livid. And he was NOT drunk. She WAS.

  11. cara says:

I commend her for getting help. It’s funny, we are THE most medicated country in the universe and yet all these bitches here can throw stones at this mom getting herself help. I’d LOVE to peek in all your medicine cabinets and or liquer cab’s. Go pop another “legal” pill your “legal” pusher gave you!

Kudos to Brooke. Only good can come from acceptence and change.

  12. bella says:

    @ Cara,

I don’t have a liquor cabinet, since my husband and I rarely drink, and if my blood pressure medication counts as an addiction, oh well. Some of us comment the way we do because we are disgusted by this type of behaviour. Should she get help? Yes. Should she have been off drugs PRIOR to getting pregnant? ABSOLUTELY. (And this is not her first – or even second – attempt at “getting help.” Let us hope this time it sticks!)

She’s been drug free for six months?? Well she was loaded at Christmas and that was a month ago. Are we pretending alcohol isn’t a drug?

  14. Poopie says:

@Phowie: a license to have kids ! let’s make it a LAW !! 50% of breeders should NOT HAVE KIDS. Period.

  15. Ophelia says:

@Bella- I totally agree with everything you said. I don’t have kids yet, but when I do, that wonderful child isn’t going to be exposed to any of this. She is seriously f’ed up.
@Cara you can look in all my cabinets and I can guarantee you’re not gonna find crack. If she had no kids, I’d commend her too, but when you do crack and have kids, you should have them taken away. She should be ashamed of herself. But then again, she married Charlie Sheen, so she’s obviously a nutjob. She doesn’t deserve to be a mother, there are potentially wonderful moms out there who cannot conceive, and these psychos get to breed?

I am the only person that didn’t realize she actually had a problem. I am so naive.

I agree, that some people shouldn’t have kids. I was watching 20/20 last night and it was the first episode that made me sick. A young woman allowed her daughter to be abuse and killed by her boyfriend. She got two years…she should have gotten life.
