Lil Wayne’s yearlong jail sentence delayed so he can have dental surgery

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards - Backstage
Lil Wayne is headed to jail for a yearlong sentence for attempted weapons possession. Cops searched his tour bus in New York in 2007 and he was slapped with two charges for a loaded .40-caliber pistol they recovered: criminal weapon possession and criminal possession of a loaded weapon. Wayne plead guilty to a lesser charge and received the sentence back in October of last year. It sounds pretty harsh to me that he’d have to serve a full year for having a loaded gun, but that’s how they do it in NY. If he was found guilty of the more severe charges he was facing up to 15 years.

Anyway Wayne was given a month’s delay on his sentence so that he can have dental surgery before he’s locked up.

The Grammy-winning, megaselling rapper avoided a trip to jail today thanks to some emergency grillwork.

Weezy, 27, was due to be sentenced to about a year in one of Manhattan’s finest lockups after copping to a gun charge last fall. Instead, he’ll remain free for the rest of the month so he can take care of a dental problem.

His lawyer, Stacey Richman, said Wayne needed to have a cracked tooth repaired. He is scheduled for surgery in Miami this Friday, she told the court, and he’ll need about 10 days to recover.

Judge Charles H. Solomon said that Wayne must be back on March to face the music. And no more delays.
“I don’t want this to get pushed back anymore,” he told Wayne. “This is the last adjournment.”

[From E! Online]

I have a lot of respect for Lil Wayne after seeing him interviewed by Katie Couric and on The View. He’s a smart, nice guy and a very hard worker. I feel for him that he’s going to jail. Sure there are much worse things to be concerned about and he’ll be fine when he gets out, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t care.

Lil Wayne was broadcasting live on UStream when I wrote this right before 7 a.m. EST. The audio was off and he was just occasionally smiling into the camera. There’s news that he recorded a message thanking his fans and saying goodbye before his sentencing was postponed. He said “To all my fans, my real fans I really, really truly love you. I love you with all of me for real.”

Did his “bling grill” end up cracking his real one?

Celebitchy, it’s really the intelligent way to guage people. Watch interviews, get familiar with their personalities and work ethic. The worse thing is to judge them through appearance, the culture their in (rap, rock, etc.). Also, knowing as much about how they grew up and their family structure is key (biography channel isn’t bad for starters). Wayne is no choir boy, he’s done stupid things and such, but deep down, he’s a decent guy. Glad you see that.

I love Lil Wayne. How dissapointing that he won’t be around to make some awesome music for a whole year 🙁

I have a hard time believing that “Snookie’s” boyfriend is with her purely because he’s attracted to her. He’s into health and decides to date this girl? Sorry…don’t believe it. And BTW…seeing her go in for a kiss made me vomit

    Damn, that sucks!

However, why did he have a loaded pistol on his tour bus? He’s a millionaire — he could have easily hired security guards with gun permits.

He just had 2 babies last year. Now he’s gonna miss a year of their lives and they won’t know who he is when he’s out. (I’ve seen this happen before and it’s tough on the father when the kid prefers to be around people he knows..)

I hope this encourages him to make better choices in the future. Having street cred is not worth going to jail over. When you’re in a cell I’m sure whatever landed you there looks real dumb.

Don’t know anything about his record (or about gun laws, for that matter), but I don’t see why they don’t just give him probation or make him pay a hefty fine or something like that. Evidently NY wants to make an example of him, because jail time for a year seems excessive for having a gun. No wonder his lawyer has been stalling. Good luck Lil Wayne!

  7. Kevin says:

NY ain’t the place to play with loaded firearms. Plaxico Burress from the NY Giants is in jail for having a loaded gun in a nightclub. He accidentally shot himself in the thigh. No Mensa member there. By the look of the teardrop tats on Minuscule Waynes face, this won’t be the 1st time he did time.
After your first time in the system it’s not too hard to get caught back up again.

  8. Annabelle says:

Before you feel too mch for him- remember that he fathered 4 kids in one year with 4 different women. I have no pity for his gross social constructs. He’s irresponsible in every aspect of life and it’s disgusting

  9. Bodhi says:

    Um, duh Kermit.

I didn’t know NY’s gun laws were so tough. A year seems awfully extreme to me too

  10. Kevin says:

You read my mind Bodhi! And that can be some scary reading girlfriend.

  11. Iggles says:

I’m from New York. If you’re caught with illegal guns, you will go to jail. No exceptions. Actually he got off light, because I think the usual sentence is 6 years.

  12. My boyfriend will be happy for him. haha
