Prince William has his royal portrait taken by formerly homeless man

hellowills

The whole point of this Hello Magazine cover story seems to be a profile of Prince William’s amateur photography project, in which he’s “borrowing” a huge photography studio (that belongs to some famous British photographer) to take pictures of a man William has met through his charitable work. Before I get into those details, can I just ask something about the cover shot? Okay… Will has dyed his hair, yes? And it’s a very noticeable and pronounced dye job too. Weird. Does he think the darker hair will make him look less bald? Other than the dye job, I like Will so much better when he’s taking a more “realistic” photo, rather than the ultra-posed photos he does for royal crap. Obviously, he’s posing in this one too, but he still looks great in regular clothes and overall, it’s a great shot.

Anyway, back to “Will the Photographer”. The piece starts out talking about how Will is photographing a man named Jeff who used to be homeless, but who has gotten his life on track through the help of the British charity Crisis, which Will is associated with. Turns out, the same man will take Will’s portrait too – and that photo is the cover shot. It is the first time a royal portrait has been taken by a “non-professional”. Hello also says that it’s the first time “the Prince has been involved in producing a major piece of art for public display.” Will says: “The diptych that I has created with Jeff… is a reminder of the way in which all of us – whatever path our lives have taken – are ultimately neighbours and share a common bond. Jeff’s experience of homelessness was an isolating and traumatic one, but now with the help of Crisis, his life has hope and purpose again.”

An aide goes on to say that the photographs created between William and Jeff will be displayed, and then auctioned off at Christie‘s, with the profits going to Crisis: “It’s a cliché to say that one of the most photographed men in the world is at the other end of a lens for once, and that irony has not escaped William at all… Paparazzi photos of him sell for thousands of pounds round the world, so it’s great that, for once, a charity can benefit from his image instead.”

Wow! He is looking good with the darker hair, a bit like Chiris Meloni.

  2. gg says:

Uh, the “darker hair” is obviously Spray-Travolta’ed on with a stencil.

  3. Mia says:

I think he looks good with the dye job. His hair doesn’t look as thinning as it usually does. Granted I have a soft spot for him, since he & my Mom share a birthday. Great idea behind the photoshoot as well.

  4. Lindsay says:

Maybe it is the position of the shirt but instead of casual hands-in-my-pockets pose, it looks like he has his hands in his pants.

  5. Vajayjay says:

Love him with lighter hair. Would totally get it on with that royal peen. *sigh*

  6. Victoria says:

Me thinks they may have photoshoped a hair line for him. He’s got crazy receeding hair.

  7. Ursaline says:

Even if he did get his hair fixed, what’s so bad about not wanting to be bald as such a young man?

He’s very handsome and seems like he’s doing his best to live up to the royal role while still having some things that are normal-ish. At least he isn’t carousing with reality tv stars as a famewhore.

And Lindsay, I thought the same thing about the pants.

    The Real William…with fake hair.
It definitely looks fake, yet better somehow. ??

“Spray-Travolta’ed on with a stencil” LOL.

Interesting idea for the photos, hope they auction well for the charity.

  9. Maleficent says:

Sadly, looking more like Charles every day, IMO.

  10. nana says:

from neck down angle, looks like a body of the midget.

William is still looking good in some ways and I like that idea of helping a homeless man. It is sad that there are soo many buildings in UK but homelessness increase everyday.

  11. DogBoy says:

Willie— Larry King called. He wants his look back.
    Hey… Paint your bald spot?

  12. Andrea says:

    There’s a typo in William’s quote.

Also I’m proud of William for doing this. Good job William! (Now drop the deadweight. You know who I mean.)

  13. Mairead says:

Would Wills get away with a dye-job in the Army? Not due to interference from Top Brass of course, but the sheer slagging from his (similarly-ranked) cohorts? Unlike his great-aunt who liked to be friends with commoners, so long as they remembered their status, William is meant to be fairly sound.

Out of curiosity, who was the “some famous British photographer” who lent his studio? His ex-great-uncle-in-law Lord Snowdon by any chance?

Yes and as a dyed-in-the-wool (as opposed to in-the-follicle) republican, I am ashamed that I know this nonsense.

  14. Obvious says:

I like the dark hair on him. It suits him just fine.

however if my beloved Harry dyes his hair i think i might just die.

  15. Delilah says:

Is he making duckface? God help us all.

Im with maleficent, looks more like Charles than I ever thought he would.

  16. miasys says:

are you kidding? his face is all. mommmy. who cares about his hairline, he’s got such an animated look about him.

  17. GatsbyGal says:

His new darker hair is just going the show the BALD more.

  18. Emily says:

I like his hair this colour! It’s quite obviously dyed, but I like it anyway. Only thing is darker hair will show up a bald spot more…

  19. Kylie says:

He looks great with dark hair, light hair, ir even no hair!
He has a cute look in his eye. 🙂

  20. Pete says:

Doesn’t his hair go naturally brown during the winter months?

  21. Iggles says:

I like the darker hair. It seems to hide the thinning hair — for now. Poor guy got a terrible break from genetics with his advance hair loss.

Obvious – Me too! I love Harry’s ginger hair 😀

  22. orion70 says:

    Not for me thanks.

And I too thought at first that he had his hands down his pants.

  23. Doreen says:

    Great charity.

  24. betsy says:

His Mother would be proud that he is working with the former homeless man on a worthy project. I see a lot of her in him, along with Prince Charles. I think the picture looks fine.

  25. Zelda says:

Does anyone else think that pose makes him look like a pedophile trying to lure you into his car?

  26. canadianchick says:

I’d like his hands down my paints though I think he should get some royal hair plugs.

  27. canadianchick says:

I mean pants-oops Wills got me too excited lol
