DWTS contestants announced

The Dancing with The Stars contestants have been announced, and as the seasons go on the celebrities seem to get more high-profile. DWTS isn’t just for D-listers anymore, but the B list still remains at a comfortable distance. Included in the latest lineup are a few almost-unknowns, but there are also sports celebrities as well as an Oscar winning actress and a prominent comic and magician:

Penn Jillette, 53, magician

Marlee Matlin, 42, Oscar-winning actress, currently on The L Word

Cristian de la Fuente, 34, Chilean-born actor and heartthrob

Marissa Jaret Winokur, 34, Broadway actress

Adam Carolla, 43, comedian

Kristi Yamaguchi, 36, Olympic gold-medalist figure skater

Monica Seles, 34, tennis legend

Mario, 21, R&B singer

Steve Guttenberg, 49, movie star

Jason Taylor, 33, NFL All Star

Shannon Elizabeth, 34, Actress

Priscilla Presley, 62, Actress

[Thanks to OK! Magazine for this list.]

We don’t get this show in Germany, but I watched a few episodes from last season when I visited the states and it was a lot of fun. My mother was really into it. DWTS can really raise someone’s profile, and while performing on the show used to be seen as an act of desperation, it’s gaining more acceptance and many celebrities are clamoring to get on. Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino said that she wanted to go on the show, but that her management told her not to, and Tori Spelling was also said to gunning for a spot this season. Tori is currently pregnant with her second child, so we can probably assume that was the reason she wasn’t accepted.

I would like to see how waxen-faced Priscilla Presley fares. At 62 she’s the oldest one on the show this season, but isn’t the oldest competitor on the series. 65 year-old Vegas staple Wayne Newton was on in the fall of last year and was third to be eliminated. It’s also nice to see a deaf celebrity competing. Marlee Matlin, 42, currently stars on Showtime’s “The L Word.” She has four children, Sarah Rose, 11, Brandon, 7, Tyler, 5, and Isabella Jane, 4.

Dancing with The Stars airs on March 17 on ABC.
