Over the summer, Teyana Taylor announced that she was fulfilling a lifelong dream by attending culinary school. She shared that cooking and baking had always been her “passion, peace, [and] therapy.” Teyana was already a multi-hypenate thanks to her careers in acting, singing, dancing, and creative directing.
Last fall, Teyana told Oscar Isaac all about her love of cooking and gave an update about how her studies were going. She was busy kicking ass, earning straight As as she juggled her schoolwork with her One Battle After Another promotion schedule. In fact, she was even doing her homework on an iPad while she was on her way to the OBAA premiere. Flash forward to Sunday evening when Teyana won her first Golden Globe. Her category wasn’t the only thing she was worried about ahead of that night. She was also stressing over a big assignment due on Tuesday. Thankfully, her professor gave her a last-minute, two-day extension.
Teyana Taylor may be every college professor’s dream student after she revealed how she maintains straight A’s in her culinary courses. On the red carpet of the 83rd annual Golden Globes, which premiered on Sunday, Jan. 11, from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, the One Battle After Another star, 35, spoke candidly about getting nervous about completing her homework on time.
“I do be scared when I be like ‘Oh my God, oh my God. My deadline is on Tuesday. I gotta have my meal in by Tuesday,” she explained when asked if she’s scared of doing anything, as she conquers music, creative direction, film, television, dancing and now, culinary school. “But I spoke to my chef yesterday and he’s giving me an extension so I can turn my assignment in on Thursday.”
Taylor expressed that her school, Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, has been “very supportive” of her balancing her career and coursework. “Shoutout Escoffier,” she added. “They’ve been very, very supportive of me.”
The studious star went on to say that she normally turns her work in early, but explained that the Golden Globes, where she won for Best Supporting Actress in Any Motion Picture for her role in One Battle After Another, “was crazy,” scheduling-wise.
“I was like, ‘Chef, this is when the double life is kicking in,'” she recalled, “because I’m a straight-A student and I want to keep it that way. And I don’t want to make any excuses. I don’t want no breaks, because you know, you could take a semester off. I don’t want to do none of that, like, just give me a couple extra days.”
Attending the Golden Globe as a frontrunner nominee is a pretty darn good excuse to need an extension on your homework! It’s way better than the old dog-ate-my-homework excuse. Thank goodness the school was accommodating. I wonder if her chef and classmates cooked or baked her a special something as a congratulatory gesture. After all, it’s not every day that you attend culinary school with a Golden Globe winner. I’ve watched The Great British Bake Off. I know it’s possible to bake cakes in the shape of an award. Anyway, I’m so happy that Teyana is continuing to live out her dreams. I would absolutely watch her doing a cooking show in some format. I hope she keeps giving us updates and graduates with flying colors.

Oh, good for her! I worked at a technical college that had a culinary arts program and those students really have to produce. On a side note, the fine dining course included a semester working in an actual student-run high-end restaurant, where anyone could make a reservation (lunch only) and eat the best-tasting homework in the city.
Note: if there’s a culinary program where you live, you might also have this option.
She’s gorgeous and talented and her dress at the Golden Globes was a whole moment! Very happy for her!
i really want to root for her, but her caping for, first Chris Brown, and now Kanye West has me giving her the side eye.
Oh noooooo. I didn’t know this! Argh!
I’ve also heard things about her behavior on airplanes…
The woman has style!
I wonder what it is like being talented at so many different things.
