Madonna wants teenaged Lourdes to cover up

'Nine' New York Premiere

You know how, when you were a kid, your mom would look at you and say, “Someday, you’re gonna have a kid who acts just like you, and I’ll sit back and laugh”? Well, it looks like Madonna is a getting a little dose of that with her very lovely daughter, Lourdes, 13. Not only is Lourdes the brains behind a new clothing line which she co-designed with mom, but sources say the very mature-for-her-age teen is making mom all flustered with her short skirts and revealing tops. Oh, Madge. Welcome to the club.

Anyone who’s seen pictures of Madonna’s daughter Lourdes can see that the sassy 13-year-old is a chip off the old block. But the singer, who has been busily promoting Material Girl – the teen clothing line that she and Lourdes are co-designing and is set to debut in the fall – says that she isn’t always thrilled with her Mini-Me’s fashion choices.

“If anything, I wish she’d dress more conservatively,” Madonna admits. “How’s that for irony?”

It is a big hypocritical. After all, Madonna was barely 20 when she posed for her first nude photos, and she’s made a career out of pushing buttons. But the 51-year-old seems content to let Lola make her own way when it comes to style.

[From In Touch print version, April 19, 2010]

I’ve seen lots of photos of Lourdes recently, and there is no doubt she is a beautiful girl. But I do think she wears a lot of makeup sometimes, and dresses a little too “adult” for her age, especially on the red carpet. I suppose that is a matter of personal opinion and parenting style, though. My daughter is 15, and also wants to be a designer. She makes her own clothes and loves anything to do with couture. I do not allow her to wear low-cut shirts, her skirts have to be a minimum of finger-length (meaning that when she puts her arms down by her sides, the hem of the skirt has to at least be the length to her fingertips), and she is forbidden to wear those so-called “booty shorts” that are so popular with girls her age. Sometimes she gets upset with me on this, but I don’t care. Of course, in my case, there aren’t decades of photographs and videos showing me half naked, or in some cases, totally naked, so it’s probably a little easier for me to enforce my rules than for Madonna! I guess you could say it’s a classic case of the chickens coming home to roost.

    Pot, meet kettle.

  4. tiki says:

madonna had no problem with influencing teen-age girls to dress provocatively back in the day. but when it’s HER daughter, it’s a different subject altogether. can you spell, h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e? i thought you could.

Hahahaha! What goes around comes around.

  6. jules says:

Maybe Madonna should practice what she preaches!

  7. Bonfire Beach says:

I like Lourdes. She’s is turning into a Latin beauty. I hope Madonna keeps her grounded though.

  8. meme says:

madonna is starting to remind me of the gloria swanson character in sunset boulevard.

  9. Hautie says:

I always wonder how Madonna is going to explain the “Sex Book” she did in the early 1990’s.

How do you explain walking down a highway in Miami butt naked?

And humping on Vanilla Ice in a bathroom?

Seriously. I want to know. 🙂

  10. Liz says:

Madonna sweetie, instead of worrying about your daughter covering up, you might want to think about getting her “unibrow” waxed!

  11. lulu says:

Madonna is jealous of her 13 yr old daughter-LOL!!!

  12. JM says:

I seriously hope that Lourdes tries some of the raunchy stuff Madonna has done . . . I will sit back and LMAO watching Madonna get all prudish about it.

She deserves it after shoving her stupid t&a in our face for so, so many years.

  13. guesty says:

imo madonna is a great mom…u can just tell.

  14. Jeri says:

Lourdes has plenty of yrs to worry about her unibrow. Let her enjoy her youth a while.

  15. Annie says:

It’s all irony; but what I think is clear is that M has a loving relationship with her teen. Anyone who has one (teen) knows that is one mean feat. Bravo M.

  16. fizXgirl314 says:

Well, if you’re Madonna you probably know the consequences of your sexuality fully out there… so at least she knows what she’s talking about.

  17. Sugar & Spice says:

I don’t think Madonna is being hypocritical, she realizes the consequences of her earlier decisions and wants to prevent her daughter from making the same type of mistakes. Any good parent would do the same thing.

  18. Bella Bella says:

Oh Granny just doesn’t understand the kids these days.

  19. andrea says:

i love lola’s green nails in the top pic.

  20. EG says:

It’s comforting to know that Madonna has always been an airhead that shouldn’t even speak, let alone offer any insights. Madonna has always been a money machine and that’s all there is to her. The more she tries to exude substance, the more ridiculous she is.

  21. Boxy Lady says:

So Madonna took her first nude pics when she was 20? There’s a huge difference between 13 and 20! And let’s not forget that Madonna was raised in a strict and conservative household. So was I, to an extent. And when you get older, you can look back and see how certain amounts of discipline were beneficial to your life. So I don’t think Madonna is being hypocritical; I think she is being a responsible mom by making sure her daughter doesn’t grow up too fast and stays out of trouble and on the right path to being a positive and productive person.

  22. gg says:

… unlike herself. Don’t blame her.

  23. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

Meh, I am no fan of Madonna’s. but I do think she is a decent enough mother. She is no worse than other celeb parents out there.

  24. Kelly says:

Hell, it must be so hard to persuade your teen girl that pants are a must these days, judging by the media examples that are constantly rubbed in our faces. Madge being one of them- age appropriate- I doubt she understands the phrase on any level.

My niece is 14 going on 36 and though on one level I think the trashiness is out of control in general, having seen her peers on a Friday night, on the other hand I remember smuggling my own slutty forbidden getup out of the house and changing at the venue when *I* was 15 too, so hmm do I have a leg to stand on? Do any of us 🙂 ?
The eternal circle of life and angst. Makes me feel old!
