As if we needed more evidence that John Edwards is a lying cheating bastard, he’s even cheating on his mistress, space cadet Rielle Hunter. According to the National Enquirer, which broke the Edwards cheating story and is in contention for a Pulitzer for it, Edwards was pulled over by a cop in North Carolina a few weeks ago for suspicion of drunk driving. An unknown woman was driving the car and she was not sober. Edwards managed to talk the cop of giving her a sobriety test or writing a ticket.
“John was the passenger in the car of an unidentified woman he had picked up at one of the local bars,” an insider told The Enquirer. It was not his mistress Rielle Hunter, the mother of his love child.
“John had been drinking a lot of white wine and asked the woman to drive. She apparently had a couple of drinks herself and swerved the car a bit after they left the bar.”
Police pulled them over, but Edwards, who desperately wanted to avoid more trouble, used his best lawyer tactics to hush it all up, according to the insider.
“John turned on his old southern charm and talked to the officer, explaining that his ‘lady friend’ wasn’t drunk and that he didn’t need any more bad publicity.
“It could have resulted in a headline-making DUI arrest, but John talked the cops out of making a police report.
“Had John been behind the wheel, it could have been worse, because he definitely was in no condition to drive.”
Word of the traffic stop has started to leak out, revealed a source, “and now it’s being called ‘a DUI cover-up.’ It happened in late March, but it’s been hushed up until now.”
Around the time of the incident, the Enquirer discovered that Edwards was partying hard at bars.
An Enquirer reporter visited taverns the Wooden Nickel and the Blue Bayou Club near Edwards’ family home in Chapel Hill, and several eyewitnesses revealed that the politician had been drinking and attempting to pick up women there.
“John was so desperate for a hookup that he was relentless at targeting a beautiful young woman,” an eyewitness told The Enquirer.
“She turned him down flat. And her boyfriend, who was there that night, told John to leave!”

I love the fact that the Enquirer people are still tailing Edwards! He used to be this deceptive smooth-talking politician, but now he’s just a pitiful washed up divorcee with two families to support. He’s got Rielle proclaiming their undying love while she’s squeezing him for money and an estranged wife who is dying of cancer and quietly staking her claim in the press. I hope that Elizabeth hears all about this near-DUI and uses it to get a better settlement in her divorce. John will have to console himself with random drunken women at bars as he’s writing huge checks to his mistress and ex wife.

Man, how deep do the Enquirer sources run? I’m really glad they are dogging Edwards, but is it the POLICE who are leaking this stuff—the bar victims? Does the NE have full time reporters on Edwards’ az? I don’t know, but I do like it. Poor Elizabeth has just been told he has six months to live. Poor children of hers.

The National Enquirer was in the running but they did not win a Pulitzer. The awards were announced several weeks ago. Its a shame b/c they may have saved this country from Edwards being president.

John probably does not want a divorce. Then he does not have to split their estate, if Elizabeth gets the money she can leave it to the children and/or causes she supports, but not leave it in Johns hands. John will probably end up with one of his bimbos & money that should go the kids will be spent by the bimbo.

it seems like this family fell apart after the death of their teenage son. and i mean FELL APART. elizabeth desperately has two more kids her body was too old to carry and possibly the hormones she was taking caused the breast cancer(?). then, he runs for office and drags the family along and then cheats with a homeless con artist/grifter, fathers a child, and may be convicted of illegally using campaign funds that he could serve time for. and NOW he’s cruising dive bars for young hot women? jesus, mary, and joseph. pitiful. oh, and elizabeth may not have a year to live. just pray for the children.

I agree with you emmarose. John and Elizabeth never dealt head on with the grief re: their son Wade, but have dealt with it in incredibly self-destructive ways. So SAD, But just be glad Edwards was NOT elected President!!!

A random hookup or one-night stand is NOT a mistress. It’s actually a pet peeve of mine, that all these skanks (Tiger’s etc) are coming out of the woodwork as mistresses. I believe Rielle is a real mistress, and Michelle McGee (I refuse to call her by her “nickname,”) but not this woman Edwards picked up at a local bar that night. Ugh.
I just wish Edwards could keep his pants zipped. I’m sooo glad he’s not the prez! Michelle and Barack’s love is so much more real!
