She was married to Eddie Fisher. He was married to Sybil Williams. “Scarlet woman” was one of the nicer pejoratives flung at Taylor as she and Burton openly flaunted their affair, while a Vatican newspaper accused her of “erotic vagrancy.” Making a long scandal longer, the two lived together in sin until free to marry in 1965.
