Ryan, then married to Dennis Quaid, fell from her pedestal as America’s sweetheart when it came out that she’d succumbed to Russell Crowe’s bad-boy charms. The fling quickly flamed out, but the damage was done: ‘Proof’ flopped, the director blamed the scandal, Ryan and Quaid divorced, and Ryan’s career never recovered.
