Late yesterday afternoon Britney was released from the UCLA hospital psychiatric ward after a hospital hearing which determined that the stay was not justified. Both her parents and a psychiatrist at the hospital were advocating that she stay for the remainder of her 14 day hold, but they were overruled by a court representative, who interviewed everyone and recommended that she be released. People reports that this is standard procedure in this type of case.

So Britney got out, the paparazzi were thick on her tail and she was driving very erratically, changing lanes dangerously while the paparazzi followed her. (There was a video of the ensuing car chase on TMZ, but it is no longer available.) She did was she’s accustomed to doing, she went to a hotel. She arrived at the Beverly Hills Hotel around 3:30 in the afternoon. TMZ reports that the cops were there shortly afterward to try and disperse the hoard of paparazzi, and according to other accounts they remained at the hotel. Adnan arrived at about 4:40, according to OK! Magazine.

Then Adnan snuck Britney out of the hotel and they arrived at the office of Britney’s new lawyer, Adam Streisand around 5:20. At 7:00, Britney was somehow secreted out of the building under a blanket by one of Adnan’s paparazzo friends and she returned to the Beverly Hills Hotel. The police were still at the hotel at that time.

Britney’s father showed up at around 9:00 and he was seen talking to the hotel staff. About 20 minutes later, according to OK!’s timeline, more police came while Adnan and Britney remained up in her room.

At 9:30, Britney’s father entered her room with paperwork in his hand and the police still standing around. There were guards standing around her car, and that’s where OK!’s story ends. It’s a cliffhanger.

TMZ maybe provides some closure for Britney’s eventful day by saying that Britney’s father, Jamie, who is currently the conservator of her estate, will likely be in court today to make specific requests about his daughter. Since he has legal control over her estate, finances and all contracts she signs, he can say that she’s not authorized to stay in a hotel and has the authority to restrict her visitors.

Britney’s parents have released a statement conveying their disappointment in this whole situation, saying that she was released against their wishes and the wishes of the attending physician in the hospital:

“As parents of an adult child in the throws of a mental health crisis, we were extremely disappointed this morning to learn that over the recommendation of her treating psychiatrist, our daughter Britney was released from the hospital that could best care for her and keep her safe. We are deeply concerned about our daughter’s safety and vulnerability and we believe her life is presently at risk. There are conservatorship orders in place created to protect our daughter that are being blatantly disregarded. We ask only that the court’s orders be enforced so that a tragedy may be averted.”

What’s the future for Britney now? It seems that if she’s not hospitalized she’s just going to keep driving around, shopping, and staying at hotels with swarms of paparazzi making the situation incredibly dangerous for her and innocent bystanders. If nothing changes, it seems like it’s just a matter of time before there’s a car accident or someone gets hurt. Maybe this will bring awareness to the need for some legal restrictions on the paparazzi. There are plans for a new ordinance in LA that would create a “personal safety zone” around celebrities and others who are in the media. Is it too little too late?

Update: Britney was said to be back at her home that evening at around 11:00 pm PST after having dinner out with Adnan. When she returned her mother and father were waiting for her. At first Brit was said to have been nervous and wanted to leave, but she eventually went in with Adnan. It is thought that her parents are staging an intervention and trying to convince her to go back into treatment.

Note by Celebitchy: US Weekly has the entire declaration by Lynne Spears supporting the restraining order against Britney’s self-proclaimed manager Sam Lutfi, and the details are disturbing. Lynne’s statement is clear and compelling and makes a strong case for Britney never to see this guy again. After reading this, I think that a lot of her recent issues can be explained by the extreme amount of medication she was on, much of which may have been without her knowledge. The highlights are:

• Lutfi said that he routinely mashes up medication and puts it in Britney’s food
• Lutfi disabled all of Britney’s cars so that she could not leave the house without her permission.
• Lutfi threw out all the chargers to Britney’s cellphones so that she could not use them, and cut the wire for the phone in her house
• Lutfi told Britney she could see her boys on Wednesday if she took the medication he gave her, after which she said “I’ll do anything to get them back.”
• Lutfi bragged to Lynn about the control he has over Britney’s life, and said that “You’d better learn that I control everything. I control Howard Grossman, Britney’s business manger. I control her attorney’s and the security guards at the gate. They don’t listen to Britney, they listen to me. That’s why Jamie was gone tonight.”
• Lutfi said that if Britney’s family cut him out of her life that she wouldn’t take her medication and would kill herself. He said “If you try to get rid of me, she’ll be dead and I’ll piss on her grave.”
• Details of Lutfi’s fight with Britney show how he emotionally abused and berated her, calling her a “piece of trash,” an “unfit mother,” and a “whore.”
• Lutfi tried to get everyone to do tequila shots, and then switched to wine when people declined. Britney refused to drink the wine he offered her and switched hers with her mothers.
• Lynne Spears says she was agitated and unable to sleep that night, and that it seemed very odd to her that she could not sleep. She said she felt like she drank too much coffee.
• Lynne’s friend Jackie, who had wine with them at Lutfi’s insistence, also said that she felt anxious and like she had been drinking coffee.

Here is MSat’s coverage of this very unsettling account by Lynne. If all this is true, it makes Britney seem like the victim in this. If she is taking huge amounts of medication without her knowledge of course she would behave erratically and make poor decisions.

The ugly truth is finally coming about about “friend/manager” Sam Lutfi. In a restraining order filed by Jamie and Lynne Spears against Lutfi, Lynne Spears paints a picture of a mentally unstable and unaware Britney Spears becoming completely reliant upon Lutfi, who, among other things, was in cahoots with the paparazzi, drugged Spears without her knowledge, cut her phone lines, interfered with her custody court hearings, and even disabled the pop star’s vehicles. It sounds as if Lutfi was keeping her prisoner through manipulation and bully tactics. US Weekly has published the entirety of Lynne Spear’s statement on what she found after entering her daughter’s home after that big fight between Britney and Sam just before her hospitalization:

Two or three paparazzi came into the house and entered the kitchen. They greeted Sam. The paparazzi then reported to Sam where Britney currently was. From the conversation between Sam and the paparazzi I determined that Sam had given Felipe (another paparazzi) one of Britney’s cars to get her out of the house when he heard that Jamie and I were on our way to see Britney. I also understood from the conversation that Sam disabled all of Britney’s cars. (she has several at her residence.)

Sam had told Britney that Jamie and I were coming to the house to do an intervention, and that Britney panicked and took off with Felipe. Another man named Chad Hardcastle was in the house.

I also heard that evening that Britney’s and Sam’s fight that evening, Sam had told Britney that she was an unfit mother, a piece of trash and a whore, that she cares more about Adnan, her current boyfriend, than she cares about her kids, and that she does not deserve her kids.

The paparazzi reported to Sam and addressed him with great respect. They treated him like a general. He instructed them to get her back to the house. They later told Sam that Britney was on her way back.

Britney then came back to the house with Adnan, who is also a paparazzi. Sam then told Jackie [Lynne’s friend] that we needed to do whatever he tells us. I objected. He then told me, “I’m the one who spends 24/7 with your daughter. I sleep in cars outside her house so she can’t leave.” Sam then said, “You people throw everyone under the bus, if you don’t listen to me I’m going to make your name sh** in the papers.”

As I looked around the kitchen, I noticed that in the middle of the kitchen table there was a large car battery. At some point during the evening I learned that the car battery was there so Sam could charge his cell phone. Although Britney has several cell phones, he told us that he had disposed of all of the phone chargers and had made the house phones unworkable.

You’d think that would be bad enough, but it gets worse. Sam bragged about drugging Britney without her knowledge, and told Lynne that he is in completely control of her and that she better watch out:

Sam told Jackie and me that he grinds up Britney’s pills, which were on the counter and included Risperdol and Seroquel. He told us that he puts them in her food that that was the reason she had been quiet for the last three days (she had been sleeping.) He told us that the doctor who is treating her now is trying to get her into a sleep-induced coma so that they could then give her drugs to heal her brain…

Sam told me,” You’d better learn that I control everything. I control Howard Grossman, Britney’s business manger. I control her attorney’s and the security guards at the gate. They don’t listen to Britney, they listen to me. That’s why Jamie was gone tonight.”

This certainly explains why the Spears’ are fighting so hard to disentangle their daughter from this maniac, and why they didn’t want Howard Grossman to serve as a conservator.

Possibly the most chilling part of Lynne Spears’ testimony is the following, in which Britney asks Sam about getting her sons back:

Britney then said again at some point during the night, “When do I get to see my babies?” Sam answered, “Wednesday. “ Britney then said, “What do I have to do to see them?” Sam responded, “Take the pills I tell you to take.” Britney said, “I don’t like the pills and I don’t like the psychiatrist. Can’t I see another psychiatrist so I can see my babies?” Sam responded, “If I told you to take 10 pills a day, you should do what I tell you to see your babies.” Jackie then said, “Britney, your parents can help you find a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist needs to get to know you to give you the right medicine.” Sam then raised his voice and said, “Why don’t you get back with Kevin.”

This is disturbing for several reasons, but it sounds as though Lutfi has been telling Britney that she will actually be able to see her children, when in fact she has lost all visitation rights. He tells her that she will see the boys on Wednesday, when in reality, there was a custody hearing set for Wednesday. Could it be that Britney shows up at the courthouse thinking she is going to see the children?

As for Sam’s claim that Britney “has hatred” for her father, Lynne testified that it was Britney herself who wanted her father to step in and help.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sam Lutfi winds up facing criminal charges on this. Maybe some of our esteemed readers who are lawyers can comment on this.

Meanwhile, x17 (which many suspect keeps Lutfi on their payroll) has little to say on this revelation, choosing instead to focus on Britney’s life in lockdown. They actually seem to be siding with Lutfi.

Lutfi told US Weekly that the restraining order against him “won’t last” and that “They’re never gonna be able to rule her forever.”

So Britney somehow hired a new lawyer to represent her in court to challenge the ruling that her father be made conservator of her estate. The judge ruled against Britney’s side, saying that her father, Jamie, can remain in control of her finances and all medical decisions regarding his daughter until February 14th.

Britney’s lawyer, Adam Streisand, who is said to be Barbara Streisand’s second cousin, requested that Northern Trust bank and Howard Grossman, who is Britney’s business manager, be appointed instead as Britney’s conservators. He argued that having her father run her estate is unnecessarily frustrating for Britney. His request was denied and the judge said that Britney wasn’t even mentally competent enough to have hired Streisand to represent her. She will presumably be represented by a lawyer appointed by the court. That court-appointed lawyer visited her in the hospital on Sunday and told the judge that she’s not capable enough to understand the legal case or to have hired her own lawyer. A physician will examine Britney to determine her level of competence and report to the court on February 13.

The lawyers for Britney’s father, Jamie, wanted to have Britney’s legal team of Trope and Trope, who are said to be aligned with Sam Lutfi, fired. That request was not granted and Britney can retain their services. It’s not clear why they did not represent her in this specific case and how she obtained a different lawyer.

The judge addressed the restraining order against Lutfi, saying that the order is that Britney have absolutely no contact with him, including phone calls or e-mail. She is rumored to have been talking to him on the phone. When the conservators of Britney’s estate tried to serve the restraining order personally to Lutfi yesterday, he refused to open the door.

There was also yet another custody hearing for Britney and K-Fed on Monday. It was said to have been scheduled before she was hospitalized for this second time. The verdict is that there will be no changes for now and that she cannot see either of her boys. Britney’s legal reps in the custody battle wanted to request that they be taken off the case, but have withdrawn that request given their clients extreme recent problems.

Meanwhile Britney’s paparazzi boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib, attempted to visit her in the hospital bearing roses. He was seen looking upset while leaving about 20 minutes later, and OK! Magazine reports that it is unknown if he was actually able to see her.

Paparazzo Adnan Ghalib’s wife is none too pleased with the way her husband is carrying on with fallen pop star and paparazzi target Britney Spears. Adnan asked his wife Azlynn for a quickie divorce, but she’s not having that. She wants to make the maximum impact and is said to want to retain Britney’s ex Kevin Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, to represent her:

That’s right Britney, if you can’t see your old kids just make some new ones! Problem solved. While The Enquirer says that Britney is “jealous” of Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy, Adnan told Entertainment Tonight in an interview last week that the news hasn’t really sunk in for Britney yet and she still doesn’t believe it.

Britney’s “friend” Sam Lufti is bitching about how her family, who reunited with her after Lufti was seen screaming at her while she cowered on the curb outside her house Monday night, is cutting him off from her. Britney’s mom and dad are said to be staging an intervention. Lufti called TMZ’s CEO and told him that Britney’s family is “jealous” of him because “they don’t fit in.” It came out earlier this week that Lufti has three restraining orders against him along with a violent temper.

It’s hard to follow what’s going on with Britney lately, and part of me really doesn’t want to bother, but the main thing is that she was photographed crying and sitting on the curb after her friend Sam Lufti was seen publicly berating her, presumably over her relationship with Adnan. She called Adnan and left a message asking him to come by and help her out, but he could not reach her, presumably because Lufti had turned off her handful of phones. Then Adnan tried to get into Britney’s estate, but the security guard wouldn’t let him in on Lufti’s orders. Cops were called because some of the photographers were rushing the gates. Britney eventually hung out with another photographer instead, and both her parents came over to help her out.

Here’s a good breakdown of what happened, thanks to jughood on ONTD:

-Brit and her manager Sam had a huge fight in a car outside her gated community.
-Brit got out the car, crying, and pleads with the photogs to leave her along. Video can be found on TMZ and x17’s websites. It’s very upsetting footage.
-Flipie, the photog, picks up Brit and drives her to her home, then leaves. Brit calls Adnan saying “Baby, can you come get me?”
-Police show up after photogs try to enter the gated community, and leave a short time later.
-Most surprising news, BRITNEY’S PARENTS SHOW UP. “The scene inside Britney’s home right now is not pretty. Apparently Britney is very emotional and cannot stop crying. Both of her parents — mom Lynne and father Jamie — are with her now.” It was reported earlier today that she had begun communicating with them a little bit.
-Adnan shows up, but gets denied access to her gated community.
-Brit heads off towards Beverly Hills with photog Filipe, goes to Ralph’s grocery store, then meets up with Adnan, and speeds down the freeway….

Updates: Sam Lutfi, Britney’s manager, started an argument with her and the two ended up in a screaming fight. Sam continued to verbally abuse Britney as she sat barefoot on the curb at her Summit home crying holding her dog London.

Britney called Adnan for help and he heard the distress in her voice and drove to the Summit immediately. While outside the gates he was denied access as Sam Lutfi had informed the guards that he was not allowed entry. When Adnan then tried to call Britney it seems that Sam had turned all of her cell phones off…

When Jamie Spears turned up, the guards would not let him in, as Sam Lutfi would not let anyone get near Britney’s house. It was only after photographers standing outside explained the situation and who he was that Jamie was allowed access to The Summit home. He looked extremely distressed.

More details about what went down tonight: Sam screamed “Go fuck your Paparazzi boyfriend!” before speeding off. A teary eyed Spears sat on the curb holding her Yorkshire terrier ‘London’ and sporting what looked like a red mark on her face. Minutes after, Spears had driven down to her house, paparazzo boyfriend Adnan turned up at the gates of The Summit only to be denied access. The security at the Summit have been ordered by Sam not to let Ghalib in through the gates. Hoards of police arrived, and helicopters circled overhead…

Finalpixx, Adnan’s photog company, just posted “Britney is spending her evening in the company of her parents and Adnan.”

The news recently came out that Britney’s hanger-on Sam has three restraining orders against him and a long history of making threats of violence against people. One of his ex friends said that Lufti manipulated him emotionally and made threats against his family. It’s interesting that Sam’s relationship with Britney came to a head right after his was published:

There are at least two other outstanding restraining orders against Lutfi. Documents for both cases demonstrate his violent temper. This third case, however, raises deeper and more chilling questions about Lutfi’s character, and about his relationship with Britney….

Haines says their relationship was not romantic or sexual but that Lutfi was more jealous than a lover. He could be supportive one day and vicious the next, leaving voicemails tracing extremes from “You’re a worthless motherfucker” to “I love you, man. I love you to death.” He says that although Lutfi also made some feckless gestures toward an old-fashioned con job—Haines claims Lutfi borrowed about $18,000 that he did not pay back, though Lutfi’s mother finally settled much of the debt—Lutfi reserved most of his energy for emotional blackmail and extortion. “Everybody hates you,” he wrote to Haines, suggesting that Haines should just kill himself: “Seriously, sleeping pills, LOTS of them … ” (Lutfi declined to comment for this story.)

When Haines finally cut the cord, Lutfi humiliated him. He ­e-mailed naked photographs of Haines to his family, friends, colleagues and employer. Then he texted and called incessantly, telling Haines he hoped his sister would be “raped to death,” according to the restraining order. In an e-mail about Haines’s mother (“that Mormon bitch”), Lufti wrote, “I hope Satan devours her flesh and bones,” and said he looked forward to the day when he would “piss on [her] burial.”

TMZ has video of Britney walking around aimlessly and crying as photographers shout questions at her, and it’s disturbing. She looks like she has a welt on the left side of her face but that could be due to crying as it doesn’t appear in other photos later that night.

ONTD has text messages that Lufti supposedly sent Adnan telling him to stay away from her, and given his history you would assume that he’s being controlling, not helpful. US Weekly reports that the fight with Sam was over the fact that he wanted her to see a psychologist and that he was telling her to talk to her mother. That all sounds supportive, but who knows if it went down that way.

One more thing happened last night - it looks like Britney and Adnan had a flat tire after they were finally reunited, as WENN has photos of it and it seems to have taken place later that night, but I could be mistaken. Do you want to start ignoring Britney again until her next major incident? I’m sorry to phrase it like it’s inevitable, and with Britney it’s expected. It’s also hard to tell what warrants reporting as she seems to top herself every day. Maybe she’ll accept her family’s help after this.

I think there’s a really good chance Britney Spears is only using Adnan Ghalib for his sexual prowess. It’s long been rumored that Britney is insatiable in the sack. Supposedly she wanted a threesome with K-Fed and another girl, which freaked K-Fed out – as he was worried Brit would be more into the other girl. Doesn’t speak highly of K-Fed, but whatever. Other persistent rumors are that Brit has a locked room full of costumes and sex toys. Obviously the girl needs a man that can keep up. And who better that a male enhancement product reviewer? That’s right ladies, line on up for Adnan Ghalib, who just so happens to be on the test review panel of a sex product review site. The auspicious site notes:

I think I speak for all of us when I say: well played, you assholes.

Yesterday if you’d told me I would ever be grateful to write about Britney Spears, I would have told you that you were full of crap. But after 15 hours of writing all about the sad passing of Heath Ledger, I couldn’t be happier to write about the relatively fluffy existence of Britney Spears. Her craziness feels almost like an emotional vacation right now.

Though it was widely believed that Britney had broken up with her obsessed paparazzi boyfriend (it was even reported that she’d filed a restraining order against him, though that still hasn’t been substantiated) it appears Adnan Ghalib has wormed his way back into Brit’s life/checking account. He gave a tell-all interview to “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider” last night, in which he blabbed all about his relationship and how normal and loving Britney Spears is. Because it’s totally normal to tell the press that “You’re better off being homeless than being me,” as Britney did the other day. I swear to God, I’ve never wanted to commit violence against another person like I did when I heard Britney Spears say that. Sorry for the little diatribe there. Anyway it appears Adnan’s not as delusional as we’d hoped: he and Brit have been spotted together several times since his interview. But he’s not quite as gross and skeezy as he once was: he’s now officially separated. Awesome.

Ghalib told Entertainment Tonight and The Insider that the relationship is “far from over.” (Indeed, the two were spotted together that night.)

He also insisted that he wasn’t paid for the two-part interview and that he didn’t get involved with Spears as a way to sell pictures. “No, never,” he said. “In time I think people will understand that.”

Asked if he wants to marry Spears, the paparazzo, 35, responded, “I’d be lying if I said no.”

Holy gross. The thought of anyone wanting to marry a wreck like Britney Spears is flabbergasting. But Adnan Ghalib has these Svengali qualities to him that make him so creepy and disgusting – the thought of us having to endure years of pictures of him with Britney is really upsetting.

Adnan also went on to divulge all sorts of B.S. about what a great person Britney is. How much do you think she had to pay him to say that?

On her hospitalization following a Jan. 3 standoff with police: “She didn’t understand why she was taken to the hospital,” he said. “She didn’t feel the need to be there.” As for the photographs of Spears laughing as she was wheeled out on a gurney, “I think she was just afraid of what was going to happen. It doesn’t mean you are crazy.”

On Spears being photographed buying a pregnancy test: “She has a very maternal instinct,” Ghalib said of their recent Rite Aid run. (Photos of the trip were sold by his own photo agency, FinalPixx.) “She was feeling a lot of things she said she felt when she was pregnant. I think she was hoping she was pregnant with my child.”

On losing visitation rights with her kids Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1: “Her primary focus is on re-establishing a relationship with [them],” he said. “She doesn’t talk about a strategy to get them back. That’s something that’s very private to her. She loves those kids – it pains her a lot ”

On Britney’s mental state: “She is not crazy at all,” he said, despite reports claiming that she is bipolar and has suffered from postpartum depression. (Some have even suggested she may have multiple personalities.) He also dismissed talk that Spears wrote a suicide note before her January meltdown. “She never has suicidal tendencies,” he said. “You’ve got to understand the love she has for her kids outweighs anything else.”

Britney Spears has a maternal instinct? Well sure, if leaving your kids in the sink is a maternal instinct, she’s definitely on board. And laughing like a deranged lunatic when you’re wheeled away to a locked mental ward? That is absolutely a normal reaction to fear. I’m sure Adnan knows Britney’s as crazy as they get – but it’s not nice to say that about your meal ticket. I give them another 18 days – max – before they break up again. Probably because she’ll try to lock him in the trunk and leave him there.

You’ve probably already seen the pictures of Britney’s period-stained crotch. (Extreme warning with that link, but at least she’s wearing underwear.) I was seriously considering publishing said photos, but everyone advised me against it and I decided to take a pass. It’s hard to tell if it’s a mistake or is deliberate. It’s at least partially her fault for not wearing pants or a longer skirt that would have covered enough to make it hard to notice.

Britney had two X17 photographers over her house in the wee hours of the morning this weekend, and lest you think she was giving them a personal tour of her room ‘o cat of nine tails, her friend Sam Lufti was there too. It was thought that she was trying to make it up to them, as one of the guys was arrested last week and spent the night in jail for a high speed pursuit involving Britney.

While Britney had the other photographers over her house her friend Sam showed them a restraining order she wanted to take out against Adnan, her knight with shining Canon. I was trying to figure out how she could have soured on the British snapper so quickly, and it seems like she stopped hanging out with Adnan once Lufti was back in the picture. People might attribute it to Britney learning that Adnan was selling her out for photos, but she hardly seems to mind and is rumored to call the paps herself. So it seems like Lufti told her that Adnan was bad news and/or Adnan gave her the line about how he needed some “time off” and she decided to make it seem like she was the one who broke it off. Either way, a girl who lets the world see her crotch multiple times including when she’s on her period is no catch no matter how much money her photos are worth. All that’s left for Britney is to take a crap on the street.

Adnan speaks out on the restraining order on his company FinalPixx’s blog and he said he was away at a family funeral all weekend and turned his phone off “out of respect for my family.” Maybe his wife finally put her foot down and/or he needed some time to get his head on straight after too much Britney. He also told TMZ that “everything is fine,” and Britney’s “been in the care of Sam.” Meanwhile Britney went to the dance studio again so at least she’s coping constructively with her supposed frustration.

OK! Magazine has a quote from the LAPD saying that no restraining order was filed, so it seems like it was Sam’s idea and that nothing came of it. Maybe Adnan will be back on the scene or maybe he decided it’s not worth the trouble to deal with Britney at this point.

Could Britney Spears be suffering from Stockholm syndrome? The famous psychological disorder – in which kidnapping victims feel attached and show sympathy for their captors – has been linked with Spears and her relationship with paparazzi Adnan Ghalib. In spite of all the “sleeping with the enemy” jokes, it seems Spears may really be doing just that.

Now some believe that Britney Spears may be experiencing a mild version of the disorder in her relationship with British paparazzo Adnan Ghalib.

“When you see her seeming like she’s friends with the paparazzi, she’s got, like Stockholm syndrome,” actress Patricia Arquette told Contactmusic.com. “I mean she’s becoming friends with her captors. She’s being torn apart by this business.”

No, people aren’t basing the Stockholm assertion just on the psychological diagnosis of Patricia Arquette. Professionals seem to think Britney really could be suffering from a mild version of it. But to be fair, she’s got about 13 different mental issues going on, so it’s a little hard to sort out one from the other.

…her new relationship with one of her tormentors strikes some clinical psychologists as a sign of co-dependency or a variation of Stockholm syndrome, named after a 1973 bank robbery hostage standoff in Sweden. In that case, the victims became emotionally attached to their captors, even defending their actions.

“When people are struggling with psychological problems and substance abuse, their experience of the world is altered and they will often gravitate to the people who create the most intense stimuli,” says Patricia Saunders, a New York psychologist. “Some of the characteristics of persistent paparazzi are similar to stalkers. And for Britney, she’s looking for any port in a storm. The elements of Stockholm syndrome come from that sense of “If you can’t beat them, join them.”

Saunders said the relationship also reminded her of some of her own clients who enact a savior/victim fantasy. “It might be that he has some pathological attachment to her, to rescue her and to save her,” she explains. “To someone who’s drowning, like her, they’re drawn to that.”

Something tells me Adnan Ghalib’s motivations aren’t trying to rescue Britney, but just to try to take advantage of her as best he can. A lot of stories have said that Ghalib has been obsessed with Britney for years, and while I don’t doubt that, I don’t think there’s any reason to believe he’s trying to help her in any way.

Some celebrity photographers were equally cynical about the relationship, noting that Ghalib’s agency recently posted pictures of the two of them looking at pregnancy test kits in a Rite Aid pharmacy.

“He, out of anyone, knows all their tricks,” says one shutterbug who asked not to be named. “And could make it so she was not photographed all the time. It only leads me to believe that is what she wants.”

Last night Adnan was conspicuously absent from his ever-present post at Britney’s side. Good thing for him, since four paps were arrested for reckless driving in an attempt to follow her. One even tried to force Britney off the road.

Four photographers were arrested for reckless driving after a late night car chase of pop star Britney Spears on the outskirts of Los Angeles, police said on Thursday. Los Angeles police spokeswoman Sara Faden said the four were among a group of paparazzi seen driving at high speed in the Mission Hills area of the city around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday on the trail of the troubled singer.

“Britney Spears was part of the group, but was not driving recklessly,” Faden said. She said four men were booked for reckless driving and each ordered to put up $5,000 bail.

I’m not sure if Britney’s considered moving to Antarctica to get away from the press, but I think it’s time she really think about it. Granted there aren’t many Rite Aids there where you can go and look at pregnancy tests (oh and by the way, she’s said it was for her friend. And I’m sure Britney Spears runs a lot of errands for her friends). Things just get worse and worse for her every day, and it’s hard to summon any emotion for her anymore. I can’t really do the “hopefully she’ll realize ________ and get things back on track now” thing anymore. She won’t. She’ll just keep spiraling and living her life in a barely functioning state of existence until she dies. I’m not saying that’ll be soon – she could live like this until she’s 90. But I’m pretty sure she’ll never change.

Britney Spears clearly is not getting enough attention. True, she’s the number one person mentioned in terms of mental health (or lack thereof), daddy issues, mommy issues, children issues, hostage-taking, nudity making, paparazzi dating, drug using, and panic attack inducing. BUT when it comes to pregnancy people keep talking about that damn Jamie Lynn and paying no attention to Brit’s theoretically fertile womb. And that’s just not fair. And even though Jamie Lynn is 16 and pregnant, people still seem to think she the smarter and saner sister. And that doesn’t speak highly of anyone. So Brit made sure to run right out and spend a lot of time looking at pregnancy tests at Rite Aid. Though according to several sources, she’s not just looking at the tests to get attention –she seriously wants to have a whole pack of replacement babies.

It was a chaotic Monday for Britney Spears. She showed up late to her court custody hearing (hey, at least she showed!), saw the paparazzi crush and turned right back around, getting back into her car and driving off for a day of shopping, praying and, well, more driving.

Now the pop star has lost both custody and visitation rights with her precious sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James and, as an insider reveals only in the new issue of OK!, friends fear she may seek to heal her loneliness by having another child — this time with her married paparazzo boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib!

“Britney hates when things are taken from her,” a family member of Kevin Federline tells OK!. “The court’s taken Preston and Jayden away, so she’ll just have another kid to take their place. That’s the way she thinks.”

I’m all for individual freedom, but at this point I’m also all for Britney Spears being banned from reproducing for life. First off, someone with an IQ of 31 really shouldn’t be out having babies. And secondly, someone who thinks children are objects that can just be replaced shouldn’t be out replacing them. Can you imagine the way she’d mess up new kids? She’d probably name them Jayden 2 and Sean 2, and talk about all the terrible things their originals did, and how she stopped loving them so they better not act like that. Then she’d roll around in a bale of hay while eating her own hair.

Brit also wore a large diamond ring on her left ring finger. I doubt she’s really engaged – if she were, she’d be blabbing about it to anyone who’d listen. But she hasn’t gotten engagement attention in a few weeks, so she needed to check that off her “Me Me Me” list. Next to cross of the list: straitjacket-level institutionalization.
