Pete Doherty ordered to 18 months of rehab

Pete Doherty was put on 2 years probation and ordered to attend an 18-month rehab program as part of his sentencing for drug charges today. Doherty is also banned from driving for six months, and will undoubtedly abandon his many second-hand Jaguars.

The rehab program must be outpatient, because the judge said she would work around Doherty's Babyshambles tour schedule:

Prosecutors noted the rocker's flippant - yet open - demeanor when he was arrested Dec. 18, one of a long line of run-ins with police.

Court documents said that when police found plastic bags of crack cocaine in his right sock, Doherty told officers: "I didn't think I had it in there."

[Judge] McIvor told Doherty she would adhere to his pre-planned drug rehabilitation regimen, choosing the dates of his court-ordered drug tests around his lengthy tour schedule.

"It's a long, slow process, but you are showing sufficient signs of compliance and effort," McIvor said. She noted that Doherty hadn't been arrested for drugs since Jan. 14

Doherty may be turning around despite his outspoken love of most all drugs. He bragged before a concert in Ireland last week that he was sober. He's also scheduled to play in a celebrity soccer tournament!

Dohery was said to have reconciled with famous supermodel Kate Moss, and even bragged that they were planning to marry soon. Moss was spotted holding hands with an Israeli financier while in New York recently, however, and has called her sex life "nonexistent."

Pete Doherty kicks a reporter outside of yet another court appearance

Pete Doherty wore his best skinny tie with a faded Irish flag safety-pinned to his lapel for his court appearance today. He showed up over an hour late to plead guilty to seven charges of drug possession representing the full range of his addictions including heroin, crack cocaine and marijuana. The charges resulted from police stops in December and January.

Doherty's lawyer asked for a six month delay to sentencing, with the judge ruling that he should return to court for a review on April 20th. When he left the courtroom, he got into a scuffle and kicked a BBC One reporter in the elbow:

It was when Doherty left the court - wearing his trademark trilby hat and a gray suit - that he allegedly kicked Barber in the elbow and knocked her microphone on the ground.

"It was total chaos here outside the court both when he arrived and when he left," Barber said on Radio One.

"Afterwards he leapt over the railings outside the court," she said. "All of a sudden he lashed out, kicking me in the arm that was holding the microphone."

Doherty then ran down the street pursued by nearly two dozen members of the media. He jumped over the trunk of a Jaguar sedan and into the driver's seat, nearly colliding with another car when he tried to pull out into the street.

Let us state the obvious that Doherty needs to clean up. He's probably afraid of losing Kate's affections if he does.

Two more pictures after the jump.

Scary codger sues "Da Vinci Code" author

Davinci code author Dan Brown side by side with a picture of a grizzly-looking Richard Leigh with the caption: Author gets by on looks and stolen ideas
"The Da Vinci Code" was interesting and all, but we thought the writing was piss poor. That's why it's not surprising that Dan Brown is not only a lousy writer, he's also incapable of coming up with his own ideas. At least that's what co-authors of the 1982 book "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" are claiming.

For his part, Brown admitted today to reading the book as part of the research for the "Da Vinci Code," but called the plaguarism charge "completely fanciful.":

But he said "The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail" was just one of many he had studied and from where he took the idea that Jesus married Mary Magdalene, had children who survived and married into a line of French kings and that the bloodline survives until the present day.

That idea is part of the central theme of the earlier book, whose co-authors Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh are suing Random House, the publisher of both books.

Admitting to reading the book but saying you didn't copy it is a weak argument. Brown might have changed enough to make it seem like he had some original ideas, but he still cheated.

Unfortunately Brown may win the case on sheer looks alone. "The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail" co-author Richard Leigh is pictured above. [via]

The co-authors of "The Holy Blood" are seeking an injuction to insure that their material is no longer used. If the case is sucessful, the scheduled May 19th of "DaVinci Code" film starring Tom Hanks and Ian McKellen could be delayed.

Pete Doherty loves Kate 4 eva

Pete Doherty arriving at court surrounded by cameras
In a tribute to his supermodel ex-girlfriend, Kate Moss, Pete Doherty scrawled the message "I love Kate 4 eva" in marker on the windshield of his gold Jaguar as he left court in London today. Doherty faces charges on seven counts of possessing controlled drugs. His case was adjourned until March 23.

Appearing in court to review a different case yesterday: the judge inexplicably praised Doherty's progress:

During another court appearance Wednesday, Doherty breezed through a review of his earlier sentence for possessing hard drugs despite twice failing drug tests last month. "You're doing quite well, but you need to keep it up," Magistrate Jane McIvor Doherty said then.

Here is Doherty hanging out a window to take a smoke break from his court appearance.

Charges dropped against Boy George

Boy George in profile with visible tattoos on his neck and wearing sunglasses
Boy George looks haggard as he heads to New York Criminal Court to face drug charges. Police found 13 bags of cocaine in George's apartment after responding to a burglary call in October, 2005. George initially claimed the drugs weren't his and that lots of people were in and out of his apartment.

Today George pled guilty though, and charges were dropped on the condition that George enters rehab and does some community service:

Singer Boy George pleaded guilty on Wednesday to falsely reporting a burglary and was sentenced to five days of community service and fined $1,000, but drug possession charges against him were dropped.

At a brief hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court, the singer appeared to receive his sentence and was ordered to attend a drug rehabilitation program.

Here are pictures of George outside the courtroom. Three more after the jump.
