Kate Hudson at the Australian "You, Me, and Dupree" premiere

"You, Me, and Dupree" is not doing so bad at the box office, and is in fourth place on its second weekend out. "Pirates" is still kicking ass at first place, of course. "You Me, and Dupree" is supposed to royally suck, though, and is getting panned by critics.

Kate Hudson won a recent libel award from the British arm of The National Enquirer. Celebrities sue the British and Irish offshoots of US gossip magazines to get around US libel laws, which shield publications from damages unless it can be proven that they acted from malice. (So basically the US gossip rags can make shit up and no one can sue them.) Britney Spears is now suing 8 gossip magazines from offshore in the hopes of scoring some cash to feed her estranged husband's fast lifestyle.

Hudson was refuting a report that she was dangerously thin and that her mother, Goldie Hawn, was worried for her health. She won an undisclosed settlement from the magazine.

Here is Hudson looking like an elf at the July 23rd Australian premiere of "You, Me, and Dupree" with annoying Owen Wilson. She shouldn't wear her hair back because it certainly isn't flattering to her face. [via]

Mischa Barton has a foul mouth

Mischa Barton's limo was too big to maneuver around some tight curves in London, so the the driver had the former "O.C." star get out and walk a little bit to get to the UK premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean 3." She was accompanied by British talk show hosts Alan Carr and Justin Lee Collins of Channel 4's "Friday Night Project."

Collins said he loved Barton's foul mouth and had a great time with the 20 year-old actress:

The TV star spent all of Monday (03.07.06) with the former 'O.C.' star filming segments for his Channel 4 show 'The Friday Night Project' - and even escorted the stunning actress to the London premiere of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest'.

Collins has now revealed she has a filthy mouth.
He told BANG Showbiz: "She has a wicked sense of humour. She's really cheeky.
"I was quite shocked to be honest because she looks all sweet and lovely but she would come out with certain things and I would just be stunned. "She's one hell of a girl. She's wicked and I love her."

Britain's Mirror also reports that Barton said she didn't "give a s*** where Paris is" when someone told her that she just missed Paris Hilton's visit to the UK. That's not surprising since the two have fought in the press before.

Here is Barton getting in her limo and at the "Pirates" premiere. Her dress is too short and the jeweled top and cap sleeves are just odd. Barton is seen with talk show host Justin Lee Collins and has not moved on from Cisco Adler to another shockingly unsuitable suitor.

Keira Knightley denies being anorexic

People should dress to fit their body type and not try to deny that they're super-thin or carrying a few extra pounds. We call it a muffin top when chubby chicks try to wear tight jeans and short tops, and we need a suitable nickname for thin women showing off their concave chests. I was going to write something about Keira's "dead woman's chest," but figured that would be too cliche. Something about pancakes would be suitable, but it's not about flat chests as much as sunken sternums.

knightley wore a gold Gucci dress with a non-existent neckline to the premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean 2" in London that highlighted her skeletal frame. She was absolutely shocked that people think she might be anorexic and said that oh, anorexia runs in her family but of course she doesn't have that problem:

"I've got a lot of experience with anorexia — my grandmother and great-grandmother suffered from it, and I had a lot of friends at school who suffered from it," Knightley said. "I know it's not something to be taken lightly and I don't."

She said she was surprised by any suggestion that she had an eating disorder.

"(The press) said to me yesterday `How does it feel to be called anorexic?' and I had no idea that I was," Knightley said. "I'm not saying there aren't people in the film industry that suffer from it, because I am sure that there are. But I'm quite sure I don't have it."

She handled the question well by saying that she's glad she helped stir up interest in the issue and that it's good that people are talking about it.

She's obviously in denial that she's so thin, and shouldn't be showing off her tiny body. Kate Bosworth must realize how she looks because she wore a tight but flattering dress to the "Superman Returns" premiere and didn't look like the stick that she is.

Knightley has tried to play off her thinness by saying that she doesn't diet or exercise and that she admires curves on women. She said in an interview with Elle magazine that she eats "bowls" of pasta and drinks plenty of wine:

"I'm trying to go 'Fuck it' and have bowls of pasta or whatever makes me happy. I haven't been to the gym since January and I'm drinking about half a bottle of wine a night. Fuck it, you've got one life - live it."

Knightley went on to admire the curves of other actresses like Scarlett Johansson whose body is about a million miles away from Knightley’s slender frame and who she was photographed with nude for the front cover of Vanity Fair.

She added: "That kind of decadent flesh is absolutely beautiful. How sexy is that on a woman?"

"We had such a laugh. Scarlett's a sweetheart. I'm not completely comfortable with my body but I just thought, 'Fuck it'."

It is was true that Knightley is eating "bowls" of pasta it would show on her frame. It's also very telling that she says she's not comfortable with herself, and calls Johansson's hot body "decadent flesh." Johansson is fit with curves and is not chubby at all. If Knightley thought Johansson looked good she would call her hot or curvy but instead she uses a description that is more suited to a side of beef. She obviously has problems with normal-looking women and isn't going to gain weight until she faces reality.

Here are some candids of Knightley in London on 7/2, at a "Pirates of the Caribbean" photocall with Orlando Bloom and at the UK premiere on 7/3. [via]

"Pirates of the Caribbean 2" Premiere with Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 premiered at Disneyland in Anaheim, California on June 24th. The film draws inspiration from the ride of the same name at the Disney theme parks. Pissed off fans and press waited nearly 6 hours at Disneyland for a chance to see the stars, who were gone all too quickly:

There was a pre-party with grog and grub at the Blue Bayou and Café Orleans for the premiere guests. They could also ride the new Pirates ride that features characters from the film: Jack Sparrow, his nemesis Captain Barbossa, and the squid-faced Davy Jones and then fill three huge red, yellow and green bleachers to view the film scheduled to be shown on an outdoor screen at around 9 p.m.

But by 7:30, the fans out on the carpet were getting hungry and hoarse, children began whimpering and even the seasoned press was turning surly.

“We’ve been standing here 5 hours and we’ve not seen a single lead actor from the film,” groused a KTLA reporter. “This is insane. Why would they make us stand out here this long?” Even a befuddled German reporter asked, “Is this normal?..."

At 8:15 p.m., frenzied screaming came from the carpet entrance. Down the line, cameramen on step ladders reported seeing Depp, Knightley and Bloom’s heads. The actors are posing for photos, zig-zagging down the carpet, talking to TV crews, then running over to shake hands and sign autographs for fans. That’s why it’s taking so long.

But it's getting late, almost 9 p.m., and the very real fear is that the film's stars will be yanked away by publicists and taken into the party so the film can begin...

Desperate reporters, sensing doom, start to break ranks. Mutinuous USA Today, People and Us Weekly scribes climb over the metal bars and run down the carpet to try to talk to Depp, who is surrounded by Disney pubs, his personal pub, Robin Baum, and roughly two dozen black-suited security guards, wearing headsets.

”If you have movie tickets, go in and take your seats,” warns a stern guard. We’re taking him in. The movie has to start!”

The carpet has become a mob scene. Guards are getting nervous. Reporters are pleading with publicists. Cameras keep flashing. Fans are screaming, "Joooohnnnyyy!" Suddenly the situation implodes as the guards surround Depp and rush their celebrity charge down the carpet.

Reporters and cameramen have to run ahead of the Depp Delta Force, as if trying to outrun a molten lava flow. “Keep moving! Keep moving! Keep moving!,” the guards shout.

Just a few frenzied minutes later and it’s all over. Depp is gone. After waiting for six hours, disgruntled reporters pack up and leave. And countless disappointed fans only got a split-second glimpse of Depp’s fedora.

That's annoying that people were made to wait so long. Disneyland didn't plan it correctly and should not have told people to show up so early.

"Pirates of the Caribbean 2" opens on July 7th.

Here are pictures from the premiere of Keira Knightley, Johnny Depp, and Orlando Bloom. I really like Keira's dress and think it's a good choice for the premiere of this semi-spooky film. Also shown are Christina Applegate, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Stacy Keibler, Daisy Fuentes and the Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger. [via]

Kate Bosworth and Orlando Bloom at the Superman Returns premiere

Kate Bosworth and new super-hottie Brandon Routh attended the premiere of "Superman Returns" last night in LA. Kate was dashing in a floor length white gown, but her ears looked elvish and she should have worn her hair down.

"Superman Returns" opens this weekend and is sure to be a hit with critics and crowds. It has an astonishing 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics saying that it's "superb," "triumphant," and a lot of fun.

Here is an interview with Bosworth about her character, Lois Lane, in "Superman Returns." The narration voice-over is really loud, so be careful if you're watching at work.

Bosworth did all her own flying stunts with a harness in the film.

Bosworth is seen posing with her costar Brandon Routh, and with her flirty boyfriend, Orlando Bloom. People were saying that Bloom and Bosworth may have ended their tumultuous relationship after Bloom was caught nuzzling Claire Danes and having lunch with Sienna Miller.

Here are pictures from the premiere [via] and the film.

Update: Some images removed on request.

Jennifer Aniston still looks pregnant

People are saying she's bloated or whatever, but she really looks pregnant to me. Look how she poses defensively on the red carpet, holding her hands over her stomach and looking like she's trying to hide something. I think she's wearing a girdle here but still has a bump. It's below her belly button, not in the stomach area where it should be. If you look at the candid of her outside the Rodin museum, you can see a definite rounding. I may be wishing and hoping for this, since it would make such juicy gossip considering the situation, but I do believe it's true.

Life and Style Weekly is reporting that Aniston is pregnant. Yes I know that doesn't make it true, but someone else is reporting it!

Here is Aniston at a "Break Up" screening and photocall in Germany on June 12th and at the gardens of the Rodin museum in Paris on June 11th.

Audrey Tautou says she's going to quit acting

In what sounds like a response to critics panning her new film, "The DaVinci Code," French actress Audrey Tautou, best known as the cutesy meddler in "Amelie," says that she's going to quit acting:

The French actress told Grazia magazine: "When I started acting, I had the idea that I would continue until I'm 40.

"Now, after doing The Da Vinci Code, I'm probably ready to quit at 30.

"I know I'm not the best actress in the world and not the worst but I think that maybe I'd be happier doing something that doesn't leave me so exposed."

She sounds like a sensitive person and she's probably quite hurt by the bad reviews of "DaVinci Code."

Hopefully she's just being reactionary and won't quit anytime soon. One bad film is not a good enough reason to throw away an acting career. She's only 27, and has a good three years left in her by her own account, anyway.

Here she is looking cute and just a little bit flirty with Tom Hanks at a DaVinci Code photo call, and at the premiere and after party for the film. She is also shown in stills from the movie.

"DaVinci Code" is so bad that people hissed at it

When The DaVinci Code was screened at Cannes, people laughed at a key dramatic scene and hissed and booed at the end. Critics are saying it's hard to follow and really boring:

At Cannes, one scene during the film, meant to be serious, elicited prolonged laughter from the audience, and when the credits rolled, there was no applause, only a few catcalls and hisses. Things were no better Stateside, where the film screened for critics in New York.

The Hollywood Reporter headlined its review, " 'Da Vinci Code' an unwieldy, bloated puzzle."

"No chemistry exists between the hero and heroine, and motivation remains a troubling sore point," wrote reviewer Kirk Honeycutt, panning Tom Hanks' "remote, even wooden performance." Only co-star Ian McKellen managed to avoid criticism.

Director Ron Howard has blown off bad reviews, saying he hasn't read them and hopes additonal reviews will be "slightly more upbeat." He wants "Da Vinci Code" to be a crowd pleaser, and seems nonchalant about the religious controversy over the film's content. He told people that if the content would upset them, they should just stay away.

Author Dan Brown suggests that Jesus Christ was married to Mary Magdalene and had a child with her. Everyone from the Opus Dei cult to the nation of India is boycotting the film. All the protesting won't matter once the news gets out about how terrible the film is. No one will want to see it anyway.

I haven't seen the film yet of course, but I thought the book sucked. The writing was terrible. I don't remember any of the details because there were so many crammed in there. The action scenes were decent, but they couldn't save the lousy writing.

My favorite review comes from TimeOut's London edition:

If ever there was a movie marriage made in hell it was that between novelist Dan Brown and film director Ron Howard. Brown's clunky, awkward prose is well matched to Howard's frighteningly earnest, spoon-feeding approach to cinema.

Here's the trailer:

DaVinci Code currently has an unprecedented 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That will probably raise slightly as lesser critics are wined and dined by the studio.

Jessica Alba nose job controversy: Part II

On Monday we reported that it looked like Jessica Alba had a nose job based on HQs of her at two different events last week. She was at the premiere of "An Inconvenient Truth" last night, and her nose still looks different than it did at the ALMA awards, but not dramatically so.

We checked out earlier pictures of Alba, and it seems like the lighting at the ALMA awards was particularly unflattering.

She could be using some alternate method to shrink her nose, as was mentioned in the article we sourced. If she did have work done, it was subtle. At this point we don't think she had a nose job.

Here is Alba at the ALMA awards, and at premiere of "An Inconvenient Truth" in LA. "An Inconvenient Truth" is a documentary about global warming featuring president Al Gore:

Director Davis Guggenheim eloquently weaves the science of global warming with Mr. Gore's personal history and lifelong commitment to reversing the effects of global climate change. A longtime advocate for the environment, Gore presents a wide array of facts and information in a thoughtful and compelling way. "Al Gore strips his presentations of politics, laying out the facts for the audience to draw their own conclusions in a charming, funny and engaging style, and by the end has everyone on the edge of their seats, gripped by his haunting message," said Guggenheim. An Inconvenient Truth is not a story of despair but rather a rallying cry to protect the one earth we all share. "It is now clear that we face a deepening global climate crisis that requires us to act boldly, quickly, and wisely," said Gore.

Alba is concerned about the environment and drives a hybrid Prius. You can do your part by walking and riding your bike whenever possible, replacing your lightbulbs with energy star efficient bulbs, and reusing plastic bags. Minor changes do make a difference.

Poseidon Premiere: Emmy Rossum, Josh Lucas, Salma Hayek & Fergie

"Poseidon," a remake of the 1976 thriller "The Poseidon Adventure," premiered last night in LA. It features Josh Lucas, Kurt Russell, Jacinda Barret, Richard Dreyfuss, and Emmy Rossum.

While ringing in the new year aboard the cruise ship Poseidon, a giant wave crashes into the ship and flips it upside down. A ragtag group of survivors realize their only chance is to make their way to the deepest bowels of the ship, now at the top, if they are going to have any chance of getting out.

It's getting bad reviews, and from the looks of the trailer, below, it's a bit too scary for our tastes.

Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas has a cameo in the film. She does not look pregnant in these pictures, but she does look plastic. She's wearing black so it's hard to see if she has a tummy buldge, though.

Here are Emmy Rossum, Josh Lucas, Kurt Russell, Mia Maestro, Salma Hayek, Fergie, Jacinda Barrett, Jerry Lewis, Kevin Dillon, Freddy Rodriguez, Emmy Rossum and Pamela Sue Martin at the premiere and after party.

Is Nicole Kidman a bad mother?

People are saying that Nicole Kidman hasn't seen her kids in ages while crazy Tom Cruise is jetting all over the world, but still manages to go to Conner and Isabella's sports matches.

Star thinks it has to do with Tom's controlling nature, but it sounds to us like Nicole Kidman just doesn't care:

The actress' kids, 13-year-old Isabella and 11-year-old Connor, haven't really been seeing a whole lot of their mom lately, and actually, the last time she was photographed with her kids was Christmas of 2004 at a Lakers game in L.A.

Proud papa Tom Cruise, 43, and stepmom-to-be Katie Holmes, 27, are regularly spotted making out in the stands at Connor's baseball games and Isabella's soccer matches, the kids' formerly ubiquitous mom seems conspicuously MIA. Although she has clearly spent some time with the children since then — and even introduced them to her groom-to-be, Keith, 38, over a casual, gigglefilled dinner at the Hotel Bel-Air in L.A. on Dec. 20 — it seems that Nicole just isn't as present in her kids' lives as she was before.'

A source claims, "Nicole probably isn't seeing as much of the kids as she'd like to, but her hands are tied."

"She's juggling traveling from movie sets to Nashville and Australia to be with her family. If she wants to see the kids, she has to come to L.A. and deal with Tom."

Also, Kidman's spokesperson told Star the actress avoids being photographed with her children for "privacy reasons".

But reports suggest that it may be Tom Cruise that is preventing his ex-wife from spending time with them.

A source says, "It's not like Tom's actively keeping her out of their children's lives, but it's in his nature to control things."

"He micromanages their schedule — sports, home-schooling, Scientology studies."

The source continues, "I think she knew when she and Tom divorced that she'd lose a certain amount of control over her kids' lives."

"But she deserves to play a bigger role. Maybe the best she can hope for is now that they're getting older, they'll start to make their own decisions."

Obviously the source is a friend of Nicole's and is making excuses for her absence from their lives. We aren't a fan of Tom, but couldn't Nicole make more of an effort to see her children?

It came out in January that a former nanny of Nicole and Tom said that Nicole was never around at all.

Tom may be a crazy cult spokesperson, but at least he's there for his kids.

Here are Tom and Katie in Aberdeen, WA for a sort-of premiere for MI3.

Lindsay Lohan at the "Just my Luck" premiere

Lindsay Lohan attended the "Just my Luck" premiere in NY last night. She arrived with her mother and sister, and spun a giant "Just my Luck" Price is Right-type wheel on the red carpet. Lohan was recently profiled in a flattering article in the NY Times. It pondered Lohan's party-girl image in a detatched, intellectual way, concluding that her talent is great enough to overshadow the fact that she sleeps around and does a lot of drugs:

The swirling tabloid rumors are dangerous because she is no Paris Hilton, famous for being famous. Her situation is more like that of Colin Farrell, a fine actor who has worked with directors like Terrence Malick yet is still best known for drinking and womanizing. And while seriousness doesn't seem to hurt actors at the box office — being politically outspoken hasn't damaged George Clooney — out-of-control behavior can backfire, making the actor seem like some maniac you might stare at on a talk show, but wouldn't want to spend time with in a movie theater. Russell Crowe will probably think twice before tossing another telephone, even if that wasn't the reason "Cinderella Man" bombed.

There is probably a generational difference; Ms. Lohan's contemporaries may not care what she does off screen and may actually be envious. But being tabloid fodder isn't a template for a long career, and perhaps she is grasping that reality. She has certainly chosen her next projects well, including the high profile "Georgia Rule," a dark comedy directed by Garry Marshall, in which she plays a woman sent by her mother (Felicity Huffman) to stay with her grandmother (Ms. Fonda).

And it was recently reported — accurately it turns out — that she has been in talks to visit Africa, Hollywood's cause du jour, as part of the Bono-inspired "One Campaign." O.K., it's a move lifted straight from the Angelina playbook, and it won't happen anytime soon because she's booked up with work. But it's helpful news to have floating out there. Even if it never happens, at least she's moving up to a better class of rumor.

That Africa trip is just a vague idea now, and who knows if it will happen. Lohan could barely handle herself on Good Morning America and Total Request Live. How is she going to commit to a humanitarian mission?

Meanwhile Lohan is said to be pissed that she had to deal with ex-friend Vanessa Minnillo on Total Request Live. Lohan's publicist was said to have thrown a fit before she went on, demanding that another VJ serve as host. There was no one else available and Lohan was stuck with her. You can tell that the two don't get along if you watch the show. Minnillo makes references to being tired and Lohan seems annoyed with her.

Here she is at the premiere and after party last night.

Cameron Diaz tells Lindsay Lohan to put out her nasty cigarette

Now that our faith in the gossip industry is waning, we're going to call it like we see it. (For a day or two at least.) The reporting paper where we read this tried to make out like Lindsay Lohan was in a catfight with Cameron Diaz since they both dated the same guy at some point, but it sounds like Cameron simply asked Lindsay to stop smoking when they were in the VIP section of a NY club together:

Star Magazine details the battle as it took place inside the VIP section of Shag club with this report.

Scarlett Johansson, Lindsay Lohan, and Cameron Diaz have a lot in common – including dating Jared Leto!

That fact still makes Lindsay seethe and she has made no secret of her ire for Scarlett – and even reportedly wrote some pretty nasty notes on an NYC bathroom wall about Scarlett...

On April 24th Lindsay also lashed out at Cameron Diaz, who asked her to stop smoking in the VIP section of Shag club. It really wasn’t about smoking but Lindsay’s lust after Jared Leto still a pal of Cameron’s.

There’s a lot of jealousy there!

Lindsay's a nasty skank who thinks she can get away with whatever she wants. It's been illegal to smoke in bars in NY for years now, so she should know better. She was probably pissed because she knew Cameron was right.

Meanwhile Lindsay still hopes to clean up her image with that humanitarian mission to Africa we told you about. She's only considering it, doesn't have a date planned, and it's clearly all about making her look good:

"Lindsay truly does feel for those who are suffering from AIDS and who are poor — she genuinely feels she needs to pay something back to the world for the fortunate life she's led," said the insider. "At the same time, she wants to be taken seriously as a person, and she's well aware of her image as a fluffy party girl. She sees working in Africa as a means to shed her 'naughty girl' reputation.

"Lindsay knows the esteem in which Angelina Jolie is held has increased immeasurably since she started her work with the poor for the UN — and she'd like to be seen as more than an airhead who doesn't care about anything but partying..."

While Lindsay's rep said no immediate trip to Africa is scheduled, the source added: "Lindsay's ready to show a new, very human side — one that cares deeply about the problems in the world."

Lindsay's ready to try to get some good press for once is all.

Here she is in St. Paul, MN yesterday for the world premiere of A Prarie Home Companion. Stars were "carried in horse drawn carriages led by the Highland Park Senior High marching band down Wabasha St."

Mission Impossible 3: Mexico City Press Conference and Premiere

Tom Cruise actually attended the Mexico City premiere of Mission Impossible 3 on Monday. He seems to care more about his fans than his wife and new baby. No other stars from the movie, not even secondary ones, appear in the premiere pictures so it can be assumed that he's the only one who went. If I'm wrong let me know.

When asked about Suri at a press conference, he said: "The hours go by so quickly, as I just stare at her." He also dismissed claims that he ate the baby's placenta, calling them "ridiculous." You said it, Tom.

Here's a brief video of excerpts from Tom's press conference in Mexico. He discusses MI3's director, JJ Abrams, and baby Suri. He seems distracted, tired, and out of sorts.

And here are pictures of him basking in the attention.

Cruise to star in a movie with "Kate" Holmes

In one of his creepier quotes, Cruise reveals that he has renamed his girlfriend "Kate" Holmes, because that just sounds more motherly to him:

After discussing the issue with Cruise, Holmes has decided her Christian name 'Katie' sounds too young for a 27-year-old and is now known to friends and family as 'Kate'. Cruise explains, "Katie is a young girl's name. "Her name is Kate now she's a child-bearing woman."

Sure Holmes decided to change her name, the one she's been using her entire life and her entire career, just because it sounded better. My name is Katie too, and to me Kate always sounded like a nickname for a younger person. Whatever. Holmes has changed everything else for Cruise, she may as well let him call her what he likes, too.

And Cruise calls her "child-bearing." That's very specific, and very strange language that seems to add credence to the rumors that she was inseminated.

In an MTV interview to air Sunday, Cruise says he would give up his achievements for his kids. That doesn't quite jibe with his actions lately. He also said he would like to star in a film with Katie Kate:

“If I had a choice between all my life’s achievements and my kids, it would be my kids every time, I’d give up everything else.”

“I’m very properly in love with Kate. She is amazing and spectacular and we can’t wait to get married now.”

“Katie and I have this ‘b and b’ thing down - she breast feeds and I burp and change nappies.”
“I don’t mind getting stuck in. I haven’t slept for a while, what with the new baby and the promotion for the movie, so it’s all a bit hectic, but a lot of fun. But I think baby Suri will be great. In fact I’d love to be my kids - they have a great life.”

He also mentioned plans to co-star in a movie with Katie: he starred in three films with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.

“I can’t wait to do a movie with Kate,” he said. “I don’t think working together is a bad idea at all, a relationship can definitely work under that pressure if you like someone enough.”

Who says things like "I'm very properly in love?" That's so strange and seems like an obvious put-on.

Cruise also attended the Paris premiere of MI3 yesterday. Michelle Monaghan attended, but the other big stars from the film were absent. Tom has a new baby at home but he still couldn't stay away.

Here are pictures from the Paris premiere.

Tom Cruise says that tabloids that mock him have sad reporters

Tom Cruise has said that the gossip columnists who make fun of his erratic behavior are simply unhappy people:

He explains, "When I look at the people who write or say these things, I realise it's not a lot of people doing it. "It's just a few people, trying to take advantage of sensationalism." The actor claims a few interviewers have tried to bait him into combative statements or behaviour, but insists, "You just have to be who you are." He adds, "Because when I meet these people, they really seem unhappy to me. And that's too bad. Because I'm happy." The media glare has become so overwhelming recently that the star has been forced to have bodyguards accompany him to all of his press interviews. Cruise adds the attention, "seems to come in phases. This just seems a little more intense lately."

Tom may have been referring to a recent interviewer who dared question Scientology's ability to cure the reading disorder dyslexia, from which Tom admittedly suffers.

The conversation was all smiles until reporter Bjorn Benkow insisted that experts say that dyslexia cannot be cured by Scientology as Cruise has claimed. There was an awkward pause, then Cruise burst into laughter. "I'm going to, in any case, admit that you have the courage of a madman," according to our translator. "This is something no journalist has dared say to me face-to-face. . . . Scientology is a religion without divinity. Its teaching is a spiritual liberation from life's problems that can only be reached through advice, courses and deep studies. Your cynical media colleagues cast doubt over all the good that we do by spreading a bunch of hocus pocus about us."

Tom then got pissed when the reporter mentioned Kidman and his adopted children and stormed off. At least the re are foreign journalists willing to state the obvious about Scientology. Tom certainly can't stand to be challenged, although he does give fabulous quotes!

Saying that someone is motivated by unhappiness is an obvious oversimplification. It's like a mom telling her grade school child that the bully is jealous of him. Cruise should stick to vague, happy quotes and try not to get upset or bring any more attention to the fact that he looks like a fool to everyone.

And here he is at a press conference for Mission Impossible 3 in Rome, and at the London premiere last night. Yes, he did attend, and supposedly Katie gave him permission.

Other stars pictured at the press conference and premiere include Keri Russell, Michelle Monaghan, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and his supposed girlfriend, and Maggie Q.

Update: Cruise spent 4 hours talking to fans outside of the MI3 premiere in London last night!

Salma Hayek at the "Ask the Dust" European premiere

Salma Hayek stars with Colin Farrell in "Ask The Dust," which opened in limited release in the US in March, and received mixed reviews. "Ask the Dust" is the story of the sadistic relationship between a struggling novelist and a Mexican waitress in the 1930s, and is based on the 1939 novel of the same name by John Fante.

The film opened in Madrid for its European premiere yesterday, and Salma Hayek attended. She also appeared at a photocall for the film today.

Hayek has said that she doesn't like the Hollywood lifestyle and that she tries to avoid it by living on a farm in the country. She also says that she faced blatant discrimination as a latin-American actress trying to break into film. Hayek is now single after a string of long term relationships and is enjoying the process of finding herself.

Tom Cruise brags about changing diapers but he's barely around

Tom Cruise told the crowd at the opening of Mission Impossible 3 in Rome yesterday that he loves changing his newborn's diapers and revealed that Katie is breastfeeding:

According to the Daily Star, Cruise said to the Roman crowd: “My mission impossible was to be here today.

“My daughter was just born, and I didn’t want top leave her and her mother..."

He added: “I changed her first: I change diapers all the time. I have to tell you, I love it.

“We have a whole system worked out. It’s the B and B – she does the breastfeeding and I do the burping and changing the diapers. It’s teamwork. It’s fun.”

My husband changed our baby a lot right after he was born, too. It's not that bad if they're breastfed. At least Katie is breastfeeding. We were concerned that she would use the barley-based formula that L. Ron Hubbard recommended. We were also worried that the baby would be abandoned for its first day in accordance with Scientology tradition, but that may not have happened.

Cruise initially said that he had cancelled all promotional appearances for the film due to the birth of baby Suri, but must have been unable to stay away. He said Katie gave him permission to go to the premiere in Rome, but she may have done it half-heartedly, as Jaunted mentions:

"I wasn't going to come and then Kate said, you know, 'Go. Go.' ... So I'm here. And I'll be here for a few hours and then I'll get back on an airplane and go back home to Kate and Suri."

Something tells us it was one of those conversations where your girlfriend is saying you should go, but really means, don't even think about it. Or it would have been, if he hadn't upped Katie's dosage first.

The London premiere of Mission Impossible is tonight. We'll have to see if Tom attends that too.

Update: Cruise will be in London. Go figure.

Here are pictures of Tom in Rome yesterday at the MI3 premiere. He stood on top of a car to get a better view of the crowd. [via]

Carmen and Dave in PR overtime

We weren't entirely convinced that Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro were having relationship trouble until we read an unsourced e-mail report on Egotastic. There's something about those "I was there" stories that make them more convincing despite the fact that they're quite easily fabricated.

Carmen teased her hair all up on Monday and attended two events with Dave. They were seen at the Scary Movie 4 premiere and at SAAB's new concept vehicle launch in New York.

She insists that everything's fine in their relationship, but we still remember how nervous she seemed on the Tonight Show when she deliberately avoided the question.

In this recent quote, she calls Dave her "friend," which usually doesn't bode well for a relationship:

Carmen Electra insists husband Dave Navarro is her best friend and that's why their marriage is so successful. The actress previously had a string of bad relationships, including a failed marriage to basketball player Dennis Rodman and a romance with Prince, but has found true love with the rocker.

She explains, "He's my best friend. He really lets me be who I am. It's the first time I've ever been able to travel and go to work and feel comfortable and be able to sleep at night knowing that my friend loves me and isn't hurting me. It's really nice."

Electra does plan on starting a family but, despite tabloid reports, the couple is taking their time. She adds, "I do look forward to being a mom, but I'm not rushing it. But that's what's crazy, there have been so many stories in the tabloids that Dave and I breaking up and now I'm getting pregnant. I'm going, 'Which is it?'"

She's not convincing us, but they'll probably work it out.

Here are pictures from the Scary Movie 4 premiere and one from the SAAB AERO X concept car launch. Other stars seen at the Scary Movie premiere include Simon Rex (who was booted from a party for trying to pee on the carpet according to Page Six), Regina Hall, and Anna Faris.

And here's the trailer for Scary Movie 4. This is the most we will ever see of this movie.

Antonio Banderas and Alfre Woodard in "Take the Lead"

Antonio Banderas, his wife Melanie Griffith, and Alfre Woodard were among the stars at the NY premiere of "Take the Lead." The film sounds like Dangerous Minds on the dance floor:

The film is based on the true story of Pierre Dulaine, and international dance teacher and competitor who volunteers his time to teach ballroom dancing to a group of inner-city high school students serving detention. Banderas plays Dulaine and Alfre Woodard co-stars as the New York high school’s tough principal.

It's been called a "hackneyed charmer," and "completey predictable, but charming" and is receiving somewhat decent reviews.

Banderas also visited MTV's Total Request Live yesterday, where he showed host Vanessa Minnillo some of his moves.

Banderas has two projects in the works. He will "return to Broadway in a new musical based on the 1995 film, 'Don Juan DeMarco'" and will play the lead in a new historical epic, "Conquistador," as the villianous Spanish conqueror Hernan Cortes who defeated the Aztec empire in the 16th century.

Tori Spelling is entertained by drag queens impersonating her

Tori Spelling has decided to cash in on the fact that people mock her constantly, and even welcomed some drag queens impersonating her at party to celebrate her new faux-reality show, so NoTORIous:

In the show, you tackle all the jokes about yourself. How does it feel to be the one to make the joke?

It’s been really freeing. I’ve been a target my entire life. At this point, there’s nothing anyone can say that will faze me. Bring it on! It’s more material for the show.

So you’re beyond being offended?

VH1 and Out magazine are (throwing) a party for the show, and they’re hiring Tori drag queens! They were like, "Does that offend you?" Of course it doesn’t offend me! There’s this famous drag queen called Suppositori Spelling. I’m like, "You have to find her!"

That's a good attitude to have, and she's going to get the last laugh if her show is a success. Here are pictures of Tori and her marked man at the XL Lounge in LA NY (thanks Mark) to promote the premiere of So NoTORIous last night.

Will Smith at the ATL Los Angeles premiere

The movie ATL opened last night in Los Angeles. Will Smith was a guest at the premiere, but is not starring in the film, an urban coming of age drama about four friends trying to get out of the ghetto. ATL stars Tip "T.I." Harris, Antwan 'Big Boi' Patton, Albert Daniels, Jackie Long, and Evan Ross.

It is loosely based on the filmmakers' youth in Atlanta in the 80s:

Directed by acclaimed music video helmer Chris Robinson and starring platinum-winning rapper Tip Harris, ATL is loosely based on filmmakers Dallas Austin and Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins' experiences growing up on Atlanta's south side. In the midst of drug dealers, gangs and violence, their only escape was a local skating rink called Jellybeans, where every Sunday night from 8:00pm until 1:00am, the teens and their close circle of friends entered a world that allowed them to escape the pressures of everyday life for awhile in the music and excitement of the rink. Many of today's top hip-hop artists could be seen at Jellybeans every Sunday back then, including Atlanta-bred performers OutKast, Jermaine Dupri, Little Jon, Trillville and TLC.

Here's the trailer:

It has been getting mixed reviews, but looks like a strong drama and should be worth seeing.

And here are the pictures from the premiere, with guests and stars attending including Tyra Banks, Dallas Austin, Big Boi, Cedric the Entertainer, Tracie Ellis Ross, Evans Ross, Diana Ross, Gabrielle Union, Garcelle Beauvias-Nilon, Johnny Gill, Rickey Bell, Kelly Rowland, Nia Long, Paula Jai Parker, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, T.I., Brandy, Evans Ross, Jackie Long, Dania Ramirez, Bow Wow, Khadijah Haqq, Malika Hagg, and Lauren London.

Lisa Kudrow says the Friends reunion was just a rumor

First aging alcoholic Kathleen Turner had everyone buzzing that a Friends reunion was in the works by saying that she was approached to reprise her role as Chandler's mom. Then Lisa Kudrow supposedly said that one of the guys was holding up a reunion. Now Kudrow is saying that's just a rumor and there was never a Friends reunion planned:

Lisa Kudrow has ruled out the possibility of the Friends cast reuniting any time in the near future.

The news puts paid to recent speculation that NBC was hoping to persuade the stars to return for a limited number of episodes later this year.

"It's not even a little bit true," Kudrow insisted in an interview for the Paul O'Grady Show. "Not even any part of it is true. It's just not possible."

A Friends reunion seems to be wishful thinking by fans, and it's too bad it's not happening. It seemed like it was being planned, but with all this conflicting information it may have been canned in the early stages.

Here is Kudrow last night in London to launch the 20th London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. She was promoting her film "Happy Endings."

The film features Kudrow as a neurotic counsellor at an abortion clinic, who is blackmailed over an affair with her now-gay step-brother.

Bjork's husband is surprisingly hot

Bjork and her husband, scultptor and filmmaker Matthew Barney, are starring in an erotic arthouse film called Drawing Restraint 9 that has almost no dialogue:

The couple takes a cruise on a Japanese whaling ship, during which an assortment of sensuous, perplexing events unfold, including a tea ceremony that ends with the travelers carving each other into human sushi.

The music and visuals are supposed to be dreamy and other-wordly. It sounds fabulous and we would love to see it.

Bjork must be a siren in bed, because she's not much to look at as you can see in these pictures of her at the premiere. She's probably so creative and nasty that her husband doesn't even notice what she's wearing.

Sharon Stone says she's shy

Sharon Stone shows off how versatile cruelty can be by wearing her fur robe two ways at her appearance outside the Late Show with David Letterman yesterday. She also managed to soak up every waning drop of admiration at the NY premiere of her sex vehicle Basic Instinct 2: Fame Addiction later that night.

Sharon blew her last shred of credibility in a recent interview by claiming to be shy and saying that her sister encouraged her to flirt with strangers at a Marshalls store:

"Guys need encouragement and I don't give them any.

"My sister made me practise being more flirtatious. She took me to Marshalls (discount store) and made me practise with shoppers.

"Everybody flirts with my sister Kelly. She's a sex bomb. No one ever talks to me."

Friends in Black

Out of respect for Jennifer Aniston's ongoing state of mourning, guests and cast members at the Friends with Money premiere last night in LA wore black. Among the black-clad attendees were Joan Cusack, Golden Brooks, Catherine Keener, and Jason Isaacs. Aniston was seen wearing a ring on the middle finder of her left hand, causing people to guess that Oprah must be pissed at her.

If you would like to sample some of Aniston's "I'm bored and will answer questions pertaining to my high paid job in a stream of consciousness" interview style, TMZ has a video of a so-called interview about her new movie. Brittany Murphy at the "Liza with a Z" Showtime event

Brittany Murphy showed off her giant engagement ring at "Liza with a Z" presented by Showtime in Century City, CA yesterday. Murphy contorted herself on the red carpet in a skintight dress and gold heels like the attention whore that she is.

Murphy was embroiled in a scandal in November of last year when she was said to be "Jordache Junkie," the unnamed starlet in E-Online's Ted Casablanca's column who did heroin and screwed the help in a stairway at an industry party. Murphy then either fired or was let go by her representation, and denied the charge. She has been engaged to Joe Macaluso, who was a production assistant on her 2004 film "Little Black Book" since January of this year.

Hyenia Liza Minelli was also at the "Liza with a Z" west coast opening, along with Lorna Lufte, cutie Sean Farris, and the ever-creepy Bruce Vilanch.

Lonesome Jim NY Premiere

"Lonesome Jim" featuring Liv Tyler, Casey Affleck, Mary Kay Place and Seymour Cassel permiered last night in NY. It is directed by Steve Buscemi. REM frontman Michael Stipe also made an appearance at the premiere.

Here is the plot summary from IMDB:

Casey Affleck plays Jim, a young man who, after deciding he can't make it on his own, moves back to his hometown in Indiana -- under his parents' roof. He's saved from his family's dysfunction by a local woman and her son, who sees him as a father figure.

Lonesome Jim is hailed as a solid and enjoyable indie film and has been called "a small gem."

Tyler was recently quoted slamming other actresses for acting like it's easy to shed the post-baby weight. Unfortunately, we have to agree with her. (The gym may have daycare, but that doesn't mean your kid will stay there the whole time without screaming for you.)

Despite what our friends at The Bastardly say, we think Tyler looks gorgeous.

Are Josh and Scarlett Over?

TMZ is reporting that Josh Hartnett, 27, just broke up with Scarlett Johansson, 21. The relatively low key Hollywood couple have lived together in Josh's Tribeca apartment in NY since December, 2005, and have been dating for just about a year.

Sexy Scarlett Johansson was out and about at Hollywood hot spot Tokio with friends. Noticeably missing -- boyfriend Josh Hartnett. Scarlett was low-keying it, partially covering her beautiful face with a hoodie. So, is the relationship kaput? Rumors have it that he called it quits.

It's surprising that Josh is the one who supposedly broke up with Scarlett. Scarlett was widely quoted two months ago saying that she didn't believe "human beings are monogamous creatures by nature."

Hartnett stars in the movie "Lucky Number Slevin" which premiered in NY last night. Lucy Liu, Ben Kingsley, and Bruce Willis are also in the film. Here's Hartnett at the premiere and after-party last night. (Josh and Scarlet are shown above in a scene from The Black Dahlia, which has yet to be released.)

Inside Man NY Premiere

"Inside Man" starring Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster and Clive Owen premiered last night in NY. The film is an action movie featuring Washington as cop negotiating with a bank robber who has taken hostages:

As the dangerous cat-and-mouse game unfolds, a wild card emerges: Madaline (Jodie Foster), a power broker with a hidden agenda, who injects even more instability into an already volatile situation.

Initial reviews are positive despite the familiar plot, and with such a talented cast it should be a great film.

Foster, Owen, and Washington attended last night's premiere. Other celebrities pictured include featured stars Willem Dafoe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Darryl Mitchell, and Kim Director. Sharon Stone mocks younger, prettier actresses

Sharon Stone is said to have laughed at reports that Sienna Miller wanted dibs at her role in Basic Instinct 2: Fame Addiction.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Sienna was mentioned at one stage - before the second film was even given the green light - but there was just no way.

"[Stone] was offered first refusal and chuckled when she heard Sienna was keen. According to Sharon, she is just a silly girl who couldn't handle Catherine."

The 48-year-old - who first played the sexy murderess 13 years ago - is also said to consider Sienna nothing but a "naïve little girl".

Go on and laugh, Sharon, Sienna is half your age and has her whole career ahead of her.

Stone also wins the bullshit award with comments attributing her figure to everyday activities:

Asked how she maintained her looks, Stone replied: “People ask me this so much I’m thinking I ought to make an exercise video. I’ve exercised a little but over a long period of time.”

Her top tip for maintaining that svelte figure: “I don’t take escalators.”

Stone's original demands for filming the Basic Instinct sequel included a $5,000 Pilates machine called "The Cadillac."

Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz at the Volver Premiere

Matthew McConaughey showed his support for girlfriend Penelope Cruz at the premiere of her new movie, Volver, in Madrid last night. We posted pictures from the film and a plot synopsis a few days ago.

McConaughey and Cruz looked very much the happy couple last night. Contrary to recent rumors, Cruz did not look pregnant.

Cruz recently revealed that she likes to dork it up on the dancefloor with her friend Salma Hayek:

Best pals Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz like to compete when they go out clubbing - by seeing who can pull off the worst dancing...

Hayek reveals, "We start competing about who can dance the worst and who can make the silliest dance, the most ridiculous moves, completely against the rhythm and it's not easy, not when you're Latin and naturally you have (moves). You have to fight your natural instincts."

Sharon Stone thinks she's still famous enough to have an entourage

Sharon Stone, ambassador for the fuck your way to world peace program, is milking her last chance at fame as much as she can. She's following MC Hammer's lead by giving overpriced gigs to her sister and best friend:

[Sharon Stone] has a group of nine, including her sister, Kelly, who is getting $40,000 as Sharon's "wardrobe mistress;" her best friend, her makeup artist, personal assistant, publicist, bodyguard and a London stylist who handles her hair extensions. Stone & Co., who were guests of Shimon Peres in Israel last week, are traveling to London, Rome, Paris, Madrid and Berlin in a chartered Gulfstream IV. "She is the only one who can plug the movie," we're told

Here's Stone at the world premiere in London of Basic Instint 2: Fame Addiction. Stone is easily upstaged by a British psuedo-celebrity in a see through top, Jodie Marsh. Ass grabber Christian Slater and Alex Kingston (of ER) are starring in a play in London together. Kingston is married to someone else.

Four more after the jump.

"Ask the Dust" after party with Lindsay, Salma, and Petra

Salma Hayek and Lindsay Lohan with their arms around each other at the Ask the Dust after party
"Ask the Dust," starring Salma Hayek and Colin Farrel, is the story of the sadistic relationship between a struggling novelist and a Mexican waitress in the 1930s. It is playing in limited release.

Hayek stars as the beautiful Camilla Lopez. She put on weight for her character by eating hamburgers and suffered hypothermia while filming an ocean-set love scene. Farrel was a gentleman on set and did not sneak a peek at Hayek while they were both naked while filming. He was also comfortable with his nudity, and did a little naked dance to help Hayek relax for the the scene. Hayek was so moved by her character's plight that she broke down and cried when she tried to read the book that the film was based on.

Celebrities in attendance at the party after the NY premiere last night included Hayek, Lindsay Lohan, Petra Nemcova, Iman, and Indina Menzel.

Fifteen more pictures after the jump.

Aeon Flux Tokyo Premiere

headshot of Charlize Theron at the Aeon Flux Japanese premiere
Charlize Theron attends the Aeon Flux premiere in Japan March 9th. She looks stunning in a cream-colored silk gown with a gathered front.

At yesterday's Aeon Flux press conference, Theron spoke about preparing for the critically-panned film with five-hour martial arts workouts:

"It felt incredibly challenging to see how far I could push myself physically to do as much of the stunt work that I possibly could do in a small amount of time," she recalled.

She also said that having her hair cut and died black for the role made her feel "like a warrior."

Twelve more, including Japanese TV stars Chiaki and the buxom Mika Kanou, after the jump.

"Failure to Launch" after party photos

Matthew McConaughey and Salma Hayek at the Failure to Launch after party
Matthew McConaughey was said to be wearing a gold band on his left ring finger in his Wednesday morning appearance on "Live with Regis and Kelly." This comes after speculation that his girlfriend of a year, Penelope Cruz, is pregnant. McConaughey wore a ring on his right hand to the "Failure to Launch" premiere. Life and Style reported that McConaughy was sporting a wedding ring a week ago, but they used a horizontally flipped photo to prove it.

Salma Hayek showed up at the "Failure to Launch" after party in New York last night. She looks gorgeous as always. We just wish Penelope could have made it.

Three more after the jump.

"V for Vendetta" premiere photos

picture of Natalie Portman at the V for Vendetta premiere in a black dress with spiky hair held back with a headband
Pictures from the "V for Vendetta" movie premiere in London March 8th, 2006. "V for Vendetta" stars Natalie Portman as a young woman working to incite revolution in a futuristic London and is produced by "Matrix" producer Joel Silver. Portman famously shaved her head for the role. It promises to be a thoughtful, action-packed and timely film.

Portman made headlines this week when she showed up at Columbia University to deliver a lecture on counter-terrorism. While her remarks weren't novel, she was lauded for her academic achievement.

Six more after the jump.

Failure to Launch NY premiere pictures

Headshot of Matthew McConaughy with the caption I'm so hot I can carry any crappy film
The "Failure to Launch" New York Premiere was held last night at the Clearview Chelsea West Theatre in New York City. Initial buzz on the film is unfortunately negative, but there is a scene in which Terry Bradshaw, who plays Matthew McConaughy's father, bares his 57 year-old butt. We've already seen Kathy Bates semi-naked in "About Schmidt" and welcome the chance to see Bradshaw's assets too.

Pictures from the movie are available in an earlier post.

Sixteen more pictures after the jump.
