    Love Gisele. Love TB.

    • gg says:

I think she wins for the legs. If I were she, I would not part my hair in the middle like that – it makes her eyes look very close together and brings out the horsiness of her face.

Other than that, sure, I’d trade.

  2. Seymour Butts says:

Gah. I don’t even find her attractive. She’s got the body for modeling, but I never cared for her face. Janice Dickinson deserves this honour. Yes, she’s over the top, but she was a very, very good model, the best.

    • Lila says:

Janice was so ridiculously beautiful before the plastic surgery.

      • Seymour Butts says:

Yes. I just like her, lol. She had a horrid childhood 🙁

      • fleur says:

I’d never seen a photo of young Janice Dicksen, just the older photos, so I googled ‘Janice Dickinson young’. Wow, she was *gorgeous*! Looked a bit like a young Isabelle Adjani in ‘Queen Margot’. I feel like this is the face Megan Fox patterns her look after.

Regarding the Giselle statement, I thought it was just another stupid list by a magazine that fails to consider anyone who hasn’t been in the public eye in the past 5 years (Linda, Christy, Elle, Iman, etc won’t sell magazines?). Giselle is a very successful woman and still popular now but I don’t think she’s the most influential model ever. Her look wasn’t particularly trend setting, or versitile. I wonder how influential she’ll be in 20 years. What about Twiggy? What about Cherly Tiegs?

    • Maguita says:

Actually, the greatest model ever goes to Linda Evangelista IMO.

Not only she owned the 80’s and 90’s, but she is still working, and is still the most versatile model ever… With the bitchiest attitude – excluding Naomi Campbell of course.

Gisèle is still young, compared to Evangelista. Will see if she is still working in 10 years or so.

      • Happy21 says:

I totally agree with you! Linda is amazing and has been for two decades 🙂

Gisele is meh compared to her.

      • Maguita says:

@Happy, Linda has been working for almost 3 decades now! Yep, time flies!

Gisele is a good strutter, but she had the same style. The same look. While Evangelista and Turlington had very versatile looks, although Turlington does not model anymore, just has cosmetic contracts.

      • Gia says:

Absolutely! Look back at some of her 90’s stuff…breathtaking!

      • Rubenesque says:

I would have chimed in earlier, but “I don’t get out of bed for less than $10,000.” 😉

      • bns says:

        You’re spot on. Loooove Linda

      • Maguita says:

Oh, I remember that @Rubenesque! But wasn’t it Turlington who said it?

Oh those Supermodels of the 90’s! Anyone remember how wild they used to be, and how celebrated they were wherever they went? They just had panache in everything they did.

Not so with the new generation of blah models…

Can you imagine though if we had camera phones and YouTube when Evangelista, Turlington, Campbell and Crawford hit it big???

      • PG says:

I hope Giselle and Tom had a safe room built in their new home. When Campbell reads this, they are probably going to need one.

      • Rubenesque says:

@Maguita- It’s a slight misquote, but it’s from Linda Evangelista. She originally said, “WE don’t wake up for less than $10,000,” talking about supermodels (including Turlington). The misquote became famous & I can’t look at her pics without thinking of it. I’ve tried it on my husband, “What? Take the kids to Saturday morning soccer practice? Why Honey, I don’t get out of bed for less than $10,000.” He just snorts and offers to make my coffee.

    • Kennedy says:

I don’t know a lot about models other than a LOT of high-fashion supermodels have very very very unique features and aren’t conventionally attractive. I think the new breed of supermodels aka the Victoria Secret crossovers are beginning a new wave of the “hot and sexy” look as opposed to what’s been on the runway for years prior. Gisele definitely falls into the former category (even though she was a VS Angel).

But in more important news, imagine how PISSED Bar Rafaeli must be… how is she going to manage to single white female this honor?

  3. Hautie says:

And in 3…2….1… Janice Dickinson will have something brutal to say about this…

  4. kazoo says:

can’t wait to read the hater responses. LOL

    • hstl1 says:

I hear ya…she is the greatest and anyone would trade places with her in a second.

  5. Nev says:

Kate Moss, Naomi, Cindy, Yasmeen Ghauri, Stella Tennant, Veronica Webb, Linda, Christy Turlington, Karen Mulder…

  6. Sarah says:

Seriously? I can’t be the only one who doesn’t even find her to be model standard attractive AT ALL, let alone the best of all time.

  7. fabgrrl says:

    Rilly?

  8. Jenna says:

Greatest model of ALL time? I don’t have a big enough “Bitch, please” for that one.

    • gab says:

      Ha! I’m with you, Jenna!

    • Carolyn says:

What a ridiculous claim. Wonder what Verushka, Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy, Jerry Hall, Iman, Cheryl Tiegs, Christie Brinkley, Renee Simonsen, Paulina Porizkova, Helena/Christy/Linda/Cindy/Naomi/Claudia, Elle etc think of it. All iconic who stood out as representative of their time in the sun. Being a VS model is not the pinnacle of modelling.

      • maureen says:

She is not just a VS model are you kidding? She’s had over 1000 magazine covers. Over 100 Vogue covers. Over 80 Harpers Bazaar covers. and the accolades are endless. She’s actually had more Vogue covers than Linda (whom is my personal fave) and Cindy and the rest of the 90s Supermodels, lol so if we go by portfolio Gisele wins. Since when was an “icon” list about whether we think that said person is attractive or not? This is not a beauty/hot list (which she makes those annually as well, lol) this is an ICON list. AKA status/accomplishments/success. The fact that people refer to her on a one name only basis speaks even more volumes of her iconic stance. One namers are rare and usually iconic. Elvis,Madonna et al.

  9. brin says:

    By who….Tom Brady?

  10. Gene Parmesan says:

    This is deserved!

    • Loulou says:

I agree. She’s healthy and radiates. I love that she’s small chested. As a model, I’d like to reincarnate as her.

  11. Kaboom says:

Time named most irrelevant publication after 2005. News at 11.

  12. Janet says:

Are they kidding? Check out some of the back issues of Vogue from the 1950s and 60s when models looked like models.

    • dillene says:

Exactly- have these people never heard of Lisa Fonssagrives or Dovima? Sunny Harnett? Anyone? My God, Carmen Dell’Orefice is still working into her 80s. *Those* are some good cheekbones, my friends.

      • Loulou says:

Love Carmen dell’Orefice but she’s had work done, so my vote stays with GB.

      • Minty says:

        @Loulou:

Gisele reportedly had subtle rhinoplasty and, like many Victoria’s Secret models, a boob job.

  13. CirclesForever says:

While I think Giselle deserves “recognition,” Cindy Crawford is, without a doubt, the greatest model of all time.

    • Minty says:

Cindy definitely belongs at the top. She was one of the first models to be successful in both high fashion and commercial modeling. IIRC, she was the first top model to pose for Playboy, the first to sell millions of her own exercise videos, the first to host her own show (MTV’s House Of Style), and was a successful spokesperson for a non-fashion brand (Pepsi). She expanded what a model could do. Tyra and Heidi Klum followed her game plan.

Linda Evangelista is unequalled as an editorial model. She looked great with any hairstyle and any hair color. She could’ve rocked a bald look. I think she is a true chameleon. Gisele knows how to pose and walk the runway, but her look isn’t versatile. She maintains the same image year after year (like Cindy, except Cindy was actually beautiful even without makeup and professional grooming).

      • marvelle says:

Yes I agree with this commnet Cindy and Linda very beautiful when younger with-out make-up or surgury. I think most of the rest of them had a little some-thing done eg. nose job or some-thing like that. But those two it’s all them no tweaking.

      • maureen says:

again, the media is wrong. There is no number ranking on Time’s actual website. Its a 100 compilation list. Gisele along with Cindy,Linda,Naomi,Twiggy,Iman etc broke records and their status cant be denied. An icon list is not about looks/body (LMAO). I never found Twiggy or Kate beautiful but you cant deny their status in the fashion world.

  14. Toot says:

A lot of the times Giselle looks like a man in drag.

    • Beatrix says:

Yep, exactly this is my problem.

    • rlh says:

Yes! Too many times. Definitely something masculine in her face. I never found her attractive. And greatest of all time? Please! She must have the same publicity team that got Jennifer Lopez labeled “most beautiful woman in the world.”

      • Serenity now says:

Most super models if you look at them have very strong jaw lines. Most modelling agencies want that whole “emaciated, androgynous giraffe” look.

  15. Dawn says:

I have to go with Twiggy because she changed it all. And also Janice and also Cheryl Tiegs and Christi Brinkley and Christi Turlington and Kate Moss.

  16. skuddles says:

Boy, a lot of wonky award winners lately… Aniston as sexiest woman, Chris Brown and his Grammy, and now Gisele is greatest model… evah?

Personally I think Paulina Porizkova blows her out of the water…

  17. Katyusha says:

    Let the hate begin!!!

This title is completely subjective – no need to get upset about it 😀

  18. Bubulle says:

Calm down this article is inaccurate Time magazine didn’t actually name her the greatest model of all time, here is the full list it’s in alphabetical order :

    MODELS
    Gisele Bündchen
    Naomi Campbell
    Cindy Crawford
    Linda Evangelista
    Iman
    Beverly Johnson
    Heidi Klum
    Kate Moss
    Jean Shrimpton
    Twiggy

    • danielle says:

Ok, your list makes way more sense.

    • Alexis says:

How did Heidi Klum get on that list? I’m fond of her, but she’s a cut below that crew.

The rest of the list is respectable; I can see Gisele in the top 10, since she was really the only proper supermodel to emerge in the 2000s.

    • Claudia S. says:

Heidi Klum? Heidi never walked the big fashion shows, she only did VS and VS is nothing! The King Karl Lagerfeld doesnt know her. That says it all!
She only had ONE Vogue Cover in the German Issue last year! And she got it because shes already a TV-Star, not because shes a Model. No Vogue Cover as a model? NO SUPERMODEL!

Heidi is a TV Entertainer at its best! She covers a lot of Magazines but Jen Aniston too and we all know that Aniston is a ugly woman! Heidi a Celebrity. As soon as she got a little fame, she started to date popular Guys and sold everything she can. In Germany she even sold Candy or ugly shoes “Birkenstock” (just google it). And then the TV-Shows came. Her Dad is like Joe Simpson from Germany!

    • maureen says:

thanks for posting the full list. Gosh people its a list of 100 Fashion Icons, why is Gisele only making the headlines elsewhere? Oh thats right; everytihng she says and does makes headlines in a world where no one “supposedly” even cares about models anymore….Doesn’t this show you even more her status? LMAO…and the fact that her last name is superflouosu, just like the 90s models also speaks volumes. I dont care if you think she is a bad model and ugly, you can’t DENY FACTS. She has accomplished above and beyond whether you like her or not. DEAl with it. oh and please go look at her modeling work and dont base you judgment on a few bad pictures celebitchy likes to use because they are incredibly biased. She can move, pose her a** off. Shes been on EVERY prestigous mag cover you can tihnk of. EVERY fashion brand you can think of. Tell me one model in the new era who has straight up dominated (and succeeded in both) the high fashion world AND commercial world///wiating….waiting….*crickets*.

  19. Ally says:

Isabella Rossellini and Paulina Porizkova. The essence of a model. IMO

  20. lucy2 says:

She’s very successful, but greatest all time? No.

I couldn’t stand Whitney’s show, but good for her for taking that guy to task.

  21. Jover says:

Agree Nev and Kaboom; check out Yasmeen Ghauri owning the catwalk in the 90s in many many Youtube clips – I would add Iman and Linda Evangalista Linda being one of Gianna’s big four easily shuts down Giselle. Janet you’re right and if you go on Youtube type in Vogue covers 1940s-1970s you’ll see montages of those models – mannequins as they were called; absolutely gorgeous womanly beautiful the styling photography clothes won’t see any of that ever again.

    • badrockandroll says:

      Jover, I so agree!

I love those Avedon pics, especially the one of Dovima (one of my favourite models) with the elephants.

  22. MST says:

Please tell me how a model can be “great?” I understand great writers, musicians, artists, etc., but how do posing, walking, and standing count as talents?

    • Jaded says:

Thank you MST. Top models are the most irrelevant creatures on the planet. By a fluke of genetics they’re born tall, skinny and wear clothes well. Most of them are as plain as a stick without make-up. Why they’re paid gazillions of dollars to strut a cat-walk and act like divas when hard working teachers, nurses, etc. are scraping by buggers belief.

      • mike says:

The same reason the leeches over at the wall street blow out of water the hard working doctors, nurses, engineers, and other actually productive members of society?

    • UKHels says:

was about to ask the same thing ha ha ha

  23. Nanea says:

All girls who were in George Michael’s Freedom video are so much greater than Gis, plus those that @Nev, # 5, named.

Harper’s Bazaar has a good retrospective, where GB is one among many others.

    • Minty says:

I so agree. Freedom ’90 still looks fresh after more than 20 years. In that video, Cindy, Christy, Linda, Naomi & Tatjana were gorgeous women in their prime, and looked different from one another.

Today, we have too many skin-and-bone models who look like sour-faced alien teenagers. Can you imagine if they did a remake and used models like Gisele, Alessandra, Karlie Kloss & Lindsey Wixson? Lol! It would be ridiculous, seeing these skinny girls trying to be sexy and womanly, exaggerating their poses to create the illusion of curves.

I don’t include Kate Moss in my list. She signified the end of the supermodel era and ushered in waifs, “heroin chic”, and very skinny girls with blank expressions. Fashion people are endlessly looking for the next new thing and they promoted Kate as the anti-supermodel.

    • Ally says:

I’ve always thought that Freedom ’90 is what kick-started the “supermodel” phenomenon. George Michael doesn’t get enough credit!

As to Gisele, my reaction to the headline was: Ew, no.

Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Twiggy, Iman are just a few who are much more iconic.

Time Magazine is totally irrelevant, anyway. I think they subsist on subscriptions at dentists’ offices.

  24. LAK says:

Sidetrack – Dear Kaiser/Celebitchy, i know KONY2012 raised controversy vis a vis Invisible children, so how about an update on the situation from a newspaper that has been writing about Kony for years. Here is a latest article.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/apr/03/kony-terrorised-villagers-rebel-attacks

  25. Floridaseaturtle says:

    Hahahahaha… she ‘won’? Wow. Wait..what?

  26. anemoneblue says:

Giselle, Please!!!!! hell no, horse face. Cindy for the win, or even Janice, but not horse face Giselle

  27. lrm says:

Maybe the most financially successful? She is a great business woman….
    But best model?

I agree with others; Kate Moss is much more interesting to look at, to me….and the previous generation of supermodels have got to place somewhere…..before GB.

    I think she’s a good runway model, and a better/saavy businesswoman….she is the richest, isn’t she?

    • Dhavy says:

not even because I think Heidi Klum takes the financial title.

This woman is overrated just like McPherson who thinks she’s all ‘natural’ and should be the only one using ‘the body’ as a reference

  28. Ari says:

    uh no

  29. sup says:

she’s not even the greatest model of her time… srsly i don’t get why she is so overrated. cindy, claudia, naomi were far better models than her. yes, even if claudia’s early catwalks were criticized. i have no idea how modeling works but it doesn’t look like rocket science to me, anybody pretending that it is quite technical and difficult is a character right outta zoolander 😀 so i don’t care about people saying gisele is so great she creates shapes with her body while posing etc. i have seen nothing out of the ordinary, and she has a below-average face and body (for a super model, not for an everyday person)

  30. JB says:

Her body is unbelievable…her face is not.

  31. Rhiley says:

Katie Holmes needs a stylist badly. She was wearing a horrible outfit in Pop Sugar photos yesterday. It was like if Half Pint wore those open toe boot bootie things that LeAnn wears all the time. So gross. Is it against the Rules of Scientology to not look frumpy and dishelved when out and about? They all kind of look like shiz in their everday clothes.

  32. mike says:

I don’t know about the “greatest model of all time,” but she is–bar none–the most successful model of all time.

The woman is wealthier than God, certainly more wealthy than Tom Brady, and when you’ve got more money than one of the highest paid athletes of all time, that’s saying something.

The gold digger in this relationship isn’t the woman, but the athlete… Howabout them apples, eh?

  33. kim says:

    um.. no

    Iman.

    That is all

  34. Jordan says:

I don’t know how Time decided that, but that’s just wrong. She’s got a great body but her face is average at best and a bit man-ish. Without a ton of makeup to take the focus off her nose, she wouldn’t be model pretty. There are tons of models back when the term Supermodel meant something that she can’t even compare to. I’ve never gotten her hype but then again, the BEST EVER lists are opinions and not everyone will agree anyway.

  35. stinky says:

    LOVED Yasmeen Ghoury!! Thanx Nev!
    (ooooh, so s-e-x-y!)

  36. LucyOriginal says:

I think when they say greatest model is her ability to sell the product, to wear the clothes. It’s not about her or her image. She is all about work. She does her job pretty well and she doesn’t party + she knows how to invest her money.

  37. Az says:

Somewhere Tyra Banks is screaming with rage. Or crying her eyes out. Cause nobody models better than Tyra, EVER.

  38. crumbcake says:

I’m not really a fan of Giselle. I think she’s got a great body, but from the neck up it’s a total snooze.

  39. norma says:

there’s something stag-like about her. can’t put my finger on it.

  40. TruthTella says:

    1. WTF… Kate Moss should definitely be No1 and Naomi Cambell No2…

    2. That Mary J Blige ad is TRAGIC, she doesn’t even need the $$$ so she has no excuse.

    3. You are so biased against Christina Aguilera… You havn’t mentioned anything about her weight loss or any of the good interviews she’s done and now she’s having a fun time at a game with Christina Millian she’s “fawning” all over her??? Ok… I’m sure a 5x Grammy winner who’s sold over 70,000,000 is just desperate to FAWN over the Dreams baby momma…

  41. truthful says:

she is not attractive to me, body is nice but not her face.

  42. crtb says:

    Nothing about her is atractive:
    Inside or out!

  43. badassninja says:

She have an amazing strut in the runway! Well deserved.

    • LucyOriginal says:

So true. Apparently, she changed a couple of times because other models were copying it.

  44. Dana says:

Who was on this panel? Stevie Wonder?!

  45. Boo says:

I take comfort in the fact that her name is “jizz.”

  46. Amanda says:

In no particular order, these ladies were true “Super Models” and the “Greatest Models” of all-time:

    Paulina Porizkova
    Elle Macpherson
    Cindy Crawford
    Linda Evangelista
    Iman
    Beverly Johnson
    Yasmin LeBon
    Isabella Rossellini
    Naomi Campbell
    Christy Turlington
    Tatjana Patitz
    Helena Christensen
    Janice Dickinson

  47. Diane P says:

Not hardly. Think Jean Shrimpton…or Pattie Boyd.

  48. alewte says:

The problem with her is she sound a total bittch.

  49. beanie says:

No way! She has a man face and is plain looking and that is with a nose job. She had a good body for modeling in her prime but that’s it.

  50. Luls says:

Her face was definitely handsome when she was younger, but its getting manlier and manlier by the second. There’s no softness or femininity to her. And since MOST designers are GAY, no wonder she’s popular in the fashion world.

Seriously, Are we really gonna use gay men’s standards for gaging female attractiveness? Judging from the sticks that walk the runway (see up), designers clearly despise female curves.

  51. Amy says:

Stephanie Seymour should be on the list, and what about Christie Brinkley?

  52. Trashaddict says:

Crashing bore. Rather think about doing sit-ups with Mark Wahlberg. Mmm-hmmm.

  53. Larissa says:

You people should seriously learn one thing or two about the modeling business, she is the greatest of all time because she is the most successful, professional and well paid model to walk on earth, so GET OVER IT. Has nothing to do with your personal opinion and conception of what´s pretty.

    • Maya says:

I agree. She is successful. But she still has a man face.
On that logic, I’m thinking that Andrej Pejic [is way prettier than her] should be the next high earning model, or out earn Giselle.

  54. TheOriginalVictoria says:

Gisele is my bitch. I cannot disagree with this HOWEVER, IMO the greatest model of all time is a tie between Iman, Naomi, Linda, and Cindy. Gisele shares the throne with all those bitches.

Naomi and Iman are the most beautiful and the greatest! You cannot put them below anyone.

  55. mar says:

Kate Moss was a game changer. She broke the mold when Linda, Christy,Naomi and Cindy ruled.

I think she deserves a lot credit for that.

Personally, I think Gisele looks like a horse.

  56. maureen says:

People take a chill pill. Its not even ranked in order! She is “among” the greatest of all time (along with Cindy,Linda,Iman,Twiggy etc) and that without a question of doubt is TRUE if you look at her portfolio and accomplishments, not just opinions on look/personality or w/e. SHE has had 100 Vogue covers all before the age of 30. RECORD. She made everyone travel to Brazil to make it the #1 place to scout models…shes had Vanity Fair covers,Rolling Stone covers,American Vogue covers et al. Her prestige cant be beat. Shes actually had more covers than all the 90s supermodels and shes in her low 30s. Biased aside, admit her status! its un-arguable.

  57. maureen says:

She is also models.com #1 icon of all time.

  60. maureen says:

lol at the media. the TIME icon list is not even ranked its a compilation of some of the greatest, which she 100% is if you look at her portfolio alone.

    SALES/SUCCESS:

In 2000, Bündchen was dubbed the “Boobs from Brazil” credited for inspiring the 36,000 breast enhancement surgeries performed that year in Brazil.

She has her own line of sandals with footwear company Grendene called Ipanema Gisele Bündchen. Forbes puts her 53rd on their list of the most powerful celebrities of 2007 because of the international success of her shoe line, making the brand Ipanema the most sold Brazilian flip-flop in the world, surpassing the legendary Havaianas.

2001 She launches best-selling flip-flop line, Ipanema; in just three years, sales will top $30 million, with a portion of proceeds going to green causes.

1.1 million pairs of Gisele Bundchen sandals were sold in their launch month in 2001.

Gisele told Vitals Magazine in 2005, Business and Investing in Real Estate have been her hobbies since she was 18 years old. Since age 18 she has acquired real estate in New York, Los Angeles and São Paulo. She claims modeling is only 40% of what she does and the rest is contracting.

May 2007 she Terminates contract with Victoria’s Secret; shares of its parent company, Limited Brands, reportedly fall 31.5 percent.

In 2007 The Gisele Bündchen Stock Index, a comparative study by economist Fred Fuld, charts the performance of brands associated with the Brazilian bombshell. Fuld finds their growth far surpasses that of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, with each brand faring significantly better with her endorsement.

After Brazilian clothier C&A hired her and started their TV commercials, the sales had an increase of 30%.

Bündchen owns a hotel in Brazil, land in Brazilian city Trancoso, a villa in Costa Rica, and she is currently building a home in Santa Monica.

Ipanema by Gisele, is available in 80 countries; her take from the 30 million pairs sold in 2009: about $8 million.

The 2010 launch of natural skincare line, Sejaa has seen success–according to Forbe’s, it is rumored that it’s being courted by major cosmetics companies, including Shiseido, for acquisition.

Edward Razek, chief marketing officer of Limited Brands, who worked with Bündchen during her Victoria’s Secret career told Forbe’s in 2011, “She’s an international icon who can also move product—from shampoo to couture.”

In early 2011, Proctor and Gamble reported that Pantene shampoo sales exploded 40% in Latin America after Bündchen started representing the product.

The Lingerie Brand “HOPE” of which Gisele has been contracted since 2010 discovered the power of Gisele to stimulate business. The company saw the search for its products duplicate in just two months, resulted, says the commercial director Carlos Eduardo Padula, of the visibility generated by the launch of Gisele’s personal lingerie collection the Gisele Bundchen Brazilian Intimates. The sales in “The Day of the Boyfriends” also saw growth in 2011 by 25% in comparison with 2010, when it did not yet have Gisele representing the brand. Upon hiring Gisele for Hope since 2010, it’s been reported she has made the invoicing of the company grow by 40%.

November 2011 Fred Fuld an American Economist who tracks companies Gisele represents since 2007, reported that she is still outperforming the Dow.

The business-savvy Brazilian bombshell is well on her way to becoming the world’s first billionaire supermodel with a portfolio that includes her own line of lingerie, Brazilian Intimates, an eco-friendly beauty range, Sejaa Pure Skincare, a shoe line, Ipanema, and some major real estate holdings that according to Forbes magazine “including a hotel in the south of Brazil, land in the posh north-east city of Trancoso, Bahia, a villa in Costa Rica and a multi-million dollar house” in California that is worth $20 million plus alone…
But it’s her lingerie line which has the potential to take her over the magic billion line — already a sell-out success in South America, Portugal, Japan and Israel — the 40-piece collection is due to be sold worldwide and judging by Brazilian Intimates’ previous sales records, a new supermodel lingerie empire is about to take over the world.

Her July Vogue Brazil 2011 cover shot in the Amazon was the magazines highest selling issue ever, selling 70,743 copies. The record was later broken by fellow model Karolina Kurkova with her November 2011 issue selling 70,991 copies.

Esprits first efforts under its new branding strategy have seen “very encouraging results”. The first campaign, which featured Gisele, helped raise consumer awareness, with a 9 percentage points rise to 59% in Germany, and a rise of 19 percentage points to 49% in China.

I think Kate Moss is an incredible model but don’t get why Gisele gets more hate than her. Kate kicked off the beautiful CIndy Crawford’s off the runway…Kate made the heroin chic look “haute”. Kate was ANTI supermodel. Gisele arrived around 1998 and was the closest thing to a 90s model people had seen in years. Big straight white smile, long lush healthy hair, tan, freckles, boobs, body (by fashion standards) the models pre Gisele were sick looking…In fact American Vogue called Gisele “the return of the sexy model”. Every modeling scout traveled to Brazil after Gisele made it big and than discovered the other Brazilian bombshells..because of GISELE. she paved the way for sex appeal in modeling again. You also wont find one picture of her partying falling drunk outside the clubs one time. Kate was the cokehead and everyone idolizes her? give me a break! At least Gisele has always lived a clean life style.

  63. maureen says:

Why is the media so stupid? where was a #1 written next to Gisele’s name on Times website? Its a COMPILATION! and she has EVERY single right to be on EVERY single model icon list thats ever existed….
I am actually a bigger fan of the beautiful 90s models as well. But Gisele has now surpassed them in her portfolio and earnings and she is not even 32 yet! if thats not iconic I dont know what is…

  64. maureen says:

Its funny so many anonymous haters love to hate on Gisele yet even NAOMI CAMPBELL,CLAUDIA SCHIFFER AND CHRISTY TURLINGTON said Gisele was “The Last true Supermodel” AND Doutzen Kroes and Candice Swanepoel said Gisele was their favorite VS angel of all time…funny how stunning women like that can give her accolades but normal people cant. well go figure…misery loves company.

    Here are their quotes BTW:

    Other models on Gisele:
“In order to become a supermodel one must be on all the covers all over the world at the same time so that people can recognise the girls. Miss Schiffer believes the Brazilian Gisele Bundchen is one of the few women to have supermodel status today.
“Her face is well known, her name is recognised – but no other girl occurs to me that people in the street would recognise,” she said. – Claudia Schiffer in 2007

“Models need to earn their stripes – I just think the term is used a little too loosely. “Kate Moss is obviously a supermodel but, after Gisele, I don’t think there’s been one.” – Naomi Cammpbell

“There are no Supermodels left today, except for one. She is of course, Gisele Bundchen.” Naomi Campbell

-“Best of all is Isabeli and the second is Gisele, which could be a snob with other models, but she is not. She knows everybody’s name and always says “hi”, she is very nice.” – Bianca Balti

but does she buy into the modern lament that supermodels no longer exist? “I don’t know.” She gives a diplomatic wag of the head. “Maybe there haven’t been that many at any one time again, but just think of Gisele and Daria [Werbowy]. And look at Kate. – Christy Turlington

Who are your favourite Victoria’s Secret Angels from the past?
    Swanepoel: Tyra, Gizelle.
Kroes: I think Gizelle is my favourite.
    Swanepoel: Me too.
Kroes: I think she’s everybody’s. We just saw her at the Met Ball and she looks gorgeous.
Models Doutzen Kroes and Candice Swanepoel

maureen, unless you are gisele herself or somebody on her team, i think you’re the one who needs to get a chill pill… or a life.
12 novel-long comments from you on this thread? i wonder if you posted even more but eventually got banned by the spam filter. damn girl

funny you think the worlds biggest/iconic supermodel has time to sit on gossip blogs. Thanks for the laugh. No sadly im not Gisele (hence why I AM sitting on a gossip blog) but I will always come with FACTS to back up my statements unlike most.

I love the fact that Time mag didn’t even rank the icons and all the news around is saying Gisele was #1. Further proving her staus without even realizing it. LOL.

  66. i love all those people who call gisele fugly and horseface, etc. i especially love that she is cashing in on her looks and laughing all the way to the very large bank, not to mention “hitting” tom brady any time she wants. yes, i wish i was that UGLy !!!! LOL. although i believe, from all the criticism from the press and public, the reason for all the hate for gisele is not her career, its that she married the all- american, super hot, superstar quarterback!
