Duchess Kate in pale yellow Emilia Wickstead in Scotland: lovely?

New photos of Duchess Kate! Happy day. First, we finally got access to a couple of photos of Kate and William at Wimbledon the other day – Kate wore a repeat, that sailor-looking McQueen dress that she wore last year in Canada. Today, however, Kate wore something new for a public appearance in Scotland. I always forget that Will and Kate have special royal titles for when they’re in Scotland – they are called “The Earl and Countess of Strathearn”. So for these photos, she’s not Duchess Kate. She’s Countess Kate. Which is cuter, in my opinion. Countess Kate wore this surprisingly lovely yellow Emilia Wickstead dress – I haven’t seen Kate in yellow in a while. It suits her, right? Sometimes, a brunette really works in pale yellow. She also wore £495 citrine drop earrings and a hat/thing by Whiteley.

So, Countess Kate and William were in Scotland for “the Thistle Ceremony” otherwise known as The Order of the Thistle, which is like some big deal and William was “installed” as Knight of the Thistle. Don’t worry, I’m not even going to try to explain it, but I will let The Mail try:

The Duchess of Cambridge attended her first public appearance as the Countess of Strathearn as she attended a service in Edinburgh today that would see her husband given the highest honour possible in Scotland.

Wearing a pale yellow coat dress by Emilia Wickstead and carrying a flash of Strathearn tartan in the shape of a folded scarf – a nod to her Scottish title – Kate joined the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal for the Thistle Service, which will see Prince William installed as Knight of the Thistle. The event at the city’s St Giles’ Cathedral was witnessed by hundreds of invited guests.

Thousands of people crowded on to the Royal Mile to catch a glimpse of William and Kate – known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn while in Scotland – and other royals as they made their way from the Signet Library, across Parliament Square and into the cathedral. The Order of the Thistle is the highest honour in Scotland and is second only in precedence in the UK to the Order of the Garter.

It honours men and women who have held public office or who have contributed in a significant way to national life. The Princess Royal was invested in the Order of the Thistle in June 2001.

The royal family entered the cathedral shortly before 11am to a fanfare, accompanied by other members of the Order, all wearing ceremonial gowns. Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge, took her place in the audience. The installation ceremony was conducted by the Dean of the Thistle, Rev. Gilleasbuig Macmillan. The short ceremony took place within the internal Thistle Chapel and was broadcast through speakers to those in the cathedral.

The Queen said: ‘It is our pleasure that His Royal Highness the Prince William, Earl of Strathearn, be installed a Knight of the most ancient and most noble Order of the Thistle.’

The Queen and her husband are members of the Scottish order of chivalry, as is Princess Anne. Only the Sovereign has the power to bring new members into the order, and it is an honour she may choose to bestow herself without seeking approval from the Government.

Kate wore a coat dress by Emilia Wickstead in delicate primrose yellow – a colour often favoured by the Queen on joyous occasions. Indeed, the monarch chose yellow on the occasion of Kate and William’s wedding last April. Her hat, by British milliner Whiteley, was one Kate has worn numerous times before, and is a £99 sisal beret in latte.

[From The Mail]

They keep making a big deal about The Princess Royal being in the Order of the Thistle, it makes me wonder if the Prince of Wales is in the order? Did the Queen thistle-block her oldest son in favor of her grandson? Interesting. Well, whatever. Countess Kate in yellow, looking pretty good – that’s what people will pay attention to. Does anyone else think she might have gained a little weight too? Or is the fabric of that dress just really thick, and the waist is a little loose which gives the impression of a slight weight gain? I can’t tell.

PS… Her Button Problem isn’t so flagrant with this dress – look at the tiny, barely noticeable buttons!! Well done, Countess Kate.

Same hairdo, same eyeliner. William looking boring and getting more Charles-like by the day. Who knew William would lose the good looks (early teens) so fast.

    • Jaxx says:

Boy, isn’t that the truth? That kid was a knockout when he was about 18 or so. I mean, Brad Pitt handsome and then poof! He turned into a balding Charles. Even Charles still had hair in his thirties. You look back at his early marriage pictures and he had a full head of hair, but his poor son…

      • ANGELIC 20 says:

kaiser did not posted pictures of william at the ceremony but you can see that he was looking quite handsome in today’s ceremony because her was wearing a hat on his head.

      • velourazure says:

their kids are going to have BIG teeth

    • Dredz says:

I watched a BBC special back then in which a royal observer said William would turn into a Robert Redford look-alike. That idea seems laughable now

    • iseepinkelefants says:

Those are the kinds of curls you see on a little girl, I wonder if she thinks they some how make her look younger? (you know because most people after the wedding said she looked over 30).

To me, they age her and make her look like a saddo with no imagination (same hairdo different day), but the Stans approve so win for Waity I guess.

  2. pink giraffe says:

All of Kate’s day dresses, with the exception of color, look exactly the same to me.

  3. Lindy says:

I have to say, I love both that yellow coat-dress and the white and navy nautical sweater-dress on her.

But could she please stop with the hair and makeup?

  4. ladybert62 says:

    As usual, she looks outstanding!

  5. Anne says:

Coat-dresses, so many coat-dresses. It’s like all these fashion houses just decided to make a variation of a coat dress, knowing that it’s just a matter of time before Kate got to theirs.

    • deehunny says:

yes, it must be chilly in England all the time, lol. But I can’t help but love them!

  6. Samihami says:

    Very pretty, as usual!

  7. Lucky Charm says:

I like the dress, it really is a lovely color.

  8. JulieM says:

The dress is decent. She always looks decent, nothing more. At least no nude heels!

Interesting, being inducted in to the Order of the Thistle is a reward for service to national life. That’s why Anne was inducted a few years back. What, other than occasionally showing up to fly a rescue helicopter, has William done to deserve this? I would also be absolutely shocked if Charles wasn’t a long standing member of the order. No way HM would induct son before father. Not done.

  9. Nancy Blue says:

Not sure why PW received the Order as apparently awarded to those who have held public office or contributed significantly to National life?

It wasn’t Kate’s day but she seems to have been ‘photographed and discussed far more than those with the Order of The Thistle.

  10. Happymom says:

Wow-Princess Margaret’s daughter, Lady Sarah (Armstrong-Jones) Chatto, really looks like the Queen in that photo!

  11. ds says:

I understand that looking decent as JuleM stated is something she has to do as a royal… what I don’t get is why she has to dresa like Queen? She’s young, skinny, has great hair… why can’t she get a stylist who will give some life to all that dull clothes she’s wearing? I really wish to see her in something less plain, bit more vivid…anything but button, old lady coat like dresses.

  12. lucky says:

I actually think her face looks a bit puffy rather than filled out… It makes me furrow my brow and hope she is just retaining a bit of extra water….

    • Andie B says:

I was looking at pictures of her at Wimbledon and thinking her face is looking a bit rounder. When I was pregnant with my daughter my face got puffy before there was any hint of a baby bump…I’m just saying.

  13. Gossip PHD says:

Weight Gain? Weight Gain? Did you see how thin she looked in that while McQueen? I think we got used to her looking this thin and they skillfully drape her in loose and full dresses (no sleeveless) so you don’t see how thin she is.

  14. Reece says:

Looks like the yellow version of the St. Patrick’s Day dress?

  15. The Original Denise says:

Yawn! Same boring hairdo and makeup, same style outfit/dress/coat whatever. At least she is giving the nude shoes a breather. They must be worn out of shape. FTLOG I wish she would experiment with a new hair style and softer makeup. She just always looks the same, boring.

  16. rose says:

Like the colour just fine but I think the cut of the dress is awful. And to think it was apparently custom made. I don’t want to start with the whole “she’s pregnant!” thing but it would explain the looseness.

  17. Trish says:

she always looks exactly the same… I really don’t think she is that attractive…maybe if she got someone to do a good make up job?….. they make such a fuss over her looks but maybe everyone does so because she is who she is regardless of how beautiful or not she appears to be.

  18. Luise says:

    Countess/Duchess Lumpy Face.

    • zee says:

Yes I was wondering why her face looks lumpy. Was this guy always this serious
      Looking?

      • LAK says:

She’s always had a roundish sort of face. She just lost so much weight from around late 2010 pre-engagement and kept losing more that her face looked more sculputured, gaunt even.

I speculate that she’s finally relaxed into being a royal, she’s finally eating and the weight is creeping back on.

She was always a thin girl, never the skinny that she’s shown us in the last 18mths.

If she isn’t pregnant, I’d wager she is simply going back to her old face. What she needs to do is change her makeup to suit her natural face because as much as we rag on her for her current make up choices, she didn’t start making them (to the extent she is) until just before engagement and wedding when she was tonnes thinner. I think that’s why her make up is starting to look wonky as well, rather like Lilo trying to find the cheekbones in her round face rather than working with what she has.

  19. Jules says:

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    • Agnes says:

i was just going to write that. same hair, same make-up, same hat-thing, boring clothes. they’re both so… generic.

  20. Liz says:

The purse is cute but seriously, she dresses like my gran. They are obviously trying to give her a fuller figure by dressing her in these big skirts, and it really isn’t working.

  21. Tilly says:

    I want to be a duchess…big sigh

    • Isa says:

The thing with this ,over and over, articles about her looks, dresses, shoes, and HAIR is getting BORING.
It’s like the Daily Middleton newspaper (among others) has nothing really interesting to write about her like for example charities, etc.
It gives me the impression that she loves the attention of going out and try a different dress and pose for the cameras but … do some work for her charities? Don’t even think about it! … Unless that include a very convenient occasion for photo-ops of course!
There are some people that are happy just to see her as a cover model (clotheshorse)… but there are others that want her actually start (for once and all) working her ass off and that way get rid of her famously nickname Waity / Duchess of Do-Little … I’m on this second group. Hoping she someday develops some strong work ethic and personality 😉

  22. Nymeria says:

IMO, she lacks the panache required to carry off such expensive, well-cut clothing. It may be that her figure is so oddly proportioned, what with her very long torso and legs that are short compared to her overall height, but couture clothes never hang properly on her. Thus, to me she always reminds me of the adage, “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.”

  23. vava says:

I think her face looks puffy, too. LOL. Bet she’s upset about that!

This coat looks too big on her, the shoulders don’t fit correctly. I like the shape of the coat, the color is nice, my guess is she bought this with the thought that this sort of style will work well for pregnancy…in the early stages. Not that I believe she is pregnant now, but she’s planning ahead.

  24. HME says:

Beautiful!!!! Love that style of dress on her, gives her some shape. And that colour really is lovely on her. No nude heels!!! I love that hat too, one of my favorites. I don’t think she has put on any weight though considering she was wearing the sailor dress from last year yesterday.

As to why William is being made a member of this order: because he’ll be King one day and giving these out himself. Charles is a member too of course.

LOVE Kate and Will’s Scottish titles! They are also Baron/Baroness of something. Question: when Prince Harry gets married will he get more than one title or will he just be made a Duke?

    • ANGELIC 20 says:

harry will be a duke most probably.

    • justme says:

When Harry gets married, if he is made a duke, he will also be made an earl and a baron. That’s traditional. Then if he has a son that son will be able to use the earl title as what is called a courtesy title. So for instance, the Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Gloucester’s son is called The Earl of Ulster – and his son’s title is Baron Culloden – all those titles are really the Duke’s lesser titles. Another example The Duke of Northumberland has lots of lesser titles, one of which is Earl Percy. That title is used as a courtesy title by his son, the George Percy who sometimes hangs out with Pippa (though not since the Parisian gun shenanigans – and she seems to be back with Alex Loudon anyway.)

      • HME says:

Thanks! I wonder what Harry is going to be Duke of?

I find this stuff so fascinating for some reason. So when Prince Edward becomes Duke of Ed….(howeveryouspellit) does his son become Earl of Wessex?

      • justme says:

Lots of speculation as to what title he might get – possibly Duke of Sussex. Now as to Edward – when he becomes Duke of Edinburgh, his son will probably use the title Earl of Wessex – currently he uses one of his father’s lesser titles, Viscount Severn. Of course Viscount Severn is in fact a Prince (though he and his sister do not use those titles)and were he to use the title Prince James he would not use courtesy title Earl of Wessex. To go back to the Duke of Gloucester. He is a Prince (Prince Richard) he was for two years his father’s heir, but he was never known as Earl of Ulster – nor was his older brother who predeceased their father. Both of them were known as princes = Prince William of Gloucester and Prince Richard of Gloucester. Since great grandchildren of monarchs no longer carry the title of Prince, the current Duke of Gloucester’s son uses a courtesy title just as any Ducal heir might do (see my post about Earl Percy above). If Edward’s children continue to avoid using their princely titles, then I suppose they would follow the pattern of using a courtesy title for the heir.

Will Harry’s children use princely titles or not? That is an interesting question. Andrew’s daughters of course use the princess title, but Prince Charles is trying to cut down the number of royals and it is suspected he wishes they had done the same thing as Edward and avoided it (of course they were born BEFORE Edward’s children)

Will Charles want his OWN grandchildren by Harry to use the princely titles or not?

By the way it is NOT true as is sometimes stated that Princess Anne did not want her children to be princes and princesses. They would never had had that right because it devolves only from males. What she did do is refuse any kind of title for her husband which would have given her children titles (via their father). Princess Margaret’s husband did accept a title “Earl of Snowden” and his children therefore have titles – one of them can be seen in the pictures with Kate, the lady in white is Lady Sarah Chatto born Armstrong Jones, but retaining the title “Lady” as the daughter of an earl (like Lady Louise Windsor daughter of the Earl of Wessex). Lady Sarah’s brother uses one of his father’s lesser titles Viscount Linley.

  25. Bobby says:

Yawn! This lady is so damn boring and quite bland in the looks department. I honestly don’t get people’s fascination with her.

  26. RobN says:

25 replies and nobody has remarked that holding her purse in front of her means she’s pregnant?

Come on, people, it’s like you’re not even making an effort.

    • bluhare says:

She always holds her bags like that.

      • Isa says:

Maybe she holds her purse that way because she is afraid that someone will try to steal it? LoL

    • Amelia says:

      Overfamiliarity breeds contempt.
No-one can be arsed anymore, not with all the juicy sci-crazy going down!

  27. ANGELIC 20 says:

boring but appropriate dress coat , same boring hair , harsh make up, but over all appropriate. that’s it , there is nothing more or less to say about her . one year and counting and we are still discussing her dress ,make up ,hair ,weight, imaginary pregnancy .what a great royal top model we got ,such a role model to wannabe arm candies . go Kate !!!!!!

  28. lolas says:

She always wears her skirt length to just above her knees…I feel she would look so much better if it was cut to just under her knees. There’s something too little girlish about the length of her skirts/dresses, and she doesn’t have a girlish vibe/figure. She’s tall and thin, she should work with that!

    • HK9 says:

Yes it is girlish~I couldn’t put my finger on it until now. It’s all about proportion. You can tell the dress is made incredibly well, but the waitsline needs to be dropped on her a smidgin, the length of the skirt needs to be just a little lower and she needs a belt in a contrasing colour on that dress.

      • LAK says:

It always irks me that either she doesn’t have a personal tailor (even if they aren’t exclusively on staff) and she never tailors her clothings. No matter how beautiful, blah, blah they never suit her because some detail that is easily solved by a tailor is off. Only Jenny Packham and McQueen are tailored to her but I think that’s more to do with the tailoring tradition of those design houses than her being aware that it needs to happen.

If I am going to enjoy her as arm candy, she should really step up to the plate. I’ve given up hoping for anything more.

On that note, like the shoes, hat. That is all.

      • ANGELIC 20 says:

LAK, i agree about giving up when it comes to her doing more then just being an arm candy. I am also waiting for another year to end and fans to stop putting out excuses for her lack of work ethics and actually see her for what she is and beyond the media propaganda , also people getting bored from talking about her clothes or make up or weight or appearance. let’s see how long people can compliment a woman’s appearance.

    • GoodCapon says:

      YES. THANK YOU.

I don’t know why she feels the need to flaunt off her legs all the time. Look at Sarah Chatto — below-the-knee dress, good heels (not sky high compared to Kate!) and she still managed to look very classy (classier than Kate, even)

  29. bagladey says:

I think she’s pregnant. I do like the yellow dress and also the navy and white tennis outfit.

  30. Bec says:

Maybe she’s being boring on purpose? Maybe by being so boring she won’t be under as bright a light of intense scrutiny that Diana had to deal with?

Don’t get me wrong, she’s always going to be followed and pap’d, but perhaps the claws and fangs won’t be out as much (or as sharp) for her every little move – just the yawns.

  31. AnneOriginal says:

I’m not a fan of yellow, but is works on her. I have mixed feelings about the dress, it needs something. A brooch maybe.

    • justme says:

I agree – I like the dress – simple and a pleasant color and texture. If she wears something outstanding then there are cries of her trying to steal the spotlight! But a brooch would be nice – possibly one of Celtic design, considering the occasion?

    • vava says:

I think it needs a belt.

  32. Sachi says:

Ugh. For someone who has such expensive clothes, she doesn’t have much style or taste. Her clothes are always old-fashioned and plain.

Most of her outfits look like they were taken off a mannequin or picked off a catalog/shopping website and she just wears them without making an outfit her own. Her clothes are way too style-specific that they can’t be played and paired up with other accessories without ruining the outfit. So the only choice left is to wear them plain and boring. She can’t successfully recycle these types of clothes and make them youthful because the style to begin with is already matronly and dull.

Same hairstyle, same thick eyeliner, same overkill blush.

Her clothes are sometimes too short or too big and too loose. Again, for someone who spends $160,000 in one year on designer stuff, she can’t seem to afford a modiste/seamstress who will fix her clothes to fit her body and show off her assets and downplay the other parts.

She’s going to indulge herself on designer stuff anyway, the least she can do is make sure she actually looks her money’s worth. 90% of the time there’s something lacking in her outfit. She lacks that “oomph” to make a simple outfit into something fashionable. She has no charisma, IMO.

And honestly, if I didn’t know how expensive some of her clothes are, I’d say she sometimes looks…inelegant. Sometimes expensive clothes look cheap on her.

The only time I’ve seen her look spectacular was when she wore that teal Jenny Packham dress and she had the right hairstyle, makeup, and accessories.

She needs a ton of effort to look great.

  33. zjzj says:

I think she’s pregnant or on fertility treatments.

I had a few miscarriages so when I got pregnant again, I was put on progesterone to help the baby “stick.” My cheeks, jowels and neck got puffy, which is where I see it on her. I know other fertility treatments make you puffy too, but based on my own experience, I’m wondering if she’s on progesterone.

  34. Laurie M. says:

Anyone else waiting for the first photos of Kate having to curtsy to Princesses Beatrice & Eugenie? How embarrassing for Kate, but it’s the photo all magazines are now waiting to print! Or will Kate refuse to see the Princesses without Will in tow, thus negating her need to curtsy to them?!

    • RobN says:

I don’t think we’ll see that picture. She probably wouldn’t even be at an event that involved the wicked stepsisters unless it was a big enough family event that William would be there. If the three of them were actual friends and hung out even without William, then I don’t think Andrew would have pushed so hard for this new protocol. I do think it was Andrew behind this; he’s the queen’s favorite, Charles has been making noises about removing all the extra royals from the who gets paid list, and Andrew is nervous.

  35. Kellie says:

Pregnant? Really. Why would anyone think she’s pregnant when she was just at the tennis match looking flat as a board as ususal. Get with it people.

  36. JessSaysNo says:

SHE’S NOT PREGNANT! OMG get over it people!

    • HME says:

Agreed. Seriously people go look at her in the sailor dress from the tennis. There is NO evidence of a bump. And she ALWAYS holds her purse in front of her stomach like that.

Let’s face it there is no way Kate’s pregnancy is going to be unplanned, her and Will aren’t going to just decide to stop using bc and ‘let nature take its course’. And she’s already married to him so there is no reason for her to get knocked up by ‘accident’ No they will have agreed on a time to really start trying and with the Olympics AND a tour coming up I’d bet dollars to donuts that they’ve agreed to wait until after that is all finished.

My mom who claims to be able to ‘always’ tell when a women is pregnant (eyeroll) was convinced Kate was knocked up cause of her bigger bust during the Jubilee events. I had to explain she was wearing padded bra. I guess it hadn’t occured to my mom, who like me is ‘blessed’ (yeah right) to have FF boobs, that there are women who wear bras to increase the size of their bust, lol.

    • Sachi says:

That’s what happens when she was so skinny last year that she looked dehydrated and ill, that when she gains as little as 5 lbs., people hooray in jubilation claiming she’s pregnant because she looks more filled out.

She’s never been naturally thin. The thinness last year was not her. It was extreme.

She’s not petite, either. The way she looks now is close to how she used to look back in 2008-2010. She’s never been overweight, but she had a good 20-25 lbs. more on her before she went on the Dukan diet, and people who only started paying attention to her when she got engaged were suddenly proclaiming she’s always been very, very thin since she was a teenager, nothing’s wrong with her, and that her body is athletic.

She’s always had a round face and round features. Her cheeks, especially. She’s one of those people who look better with more weight on.

I remember seeing a photo of her in a “Ralph Lauren”-style outfit, riding boots and all, and she was using a riding crop, I believe, to balance herself while posing on a lawn. She looked very pretty in that photo, she had more weight on, she wasn’t overly tanned, she had light makeup, she didn’t look over-processed. She looked very fresh and natural.

      • JulieM says:

Sachi: Yes. If you look at pictures of her years ago, like the one you mentioned as her Ralph Lauren look and the one where she was modeling that ghastly see through thing (I think both are actually dated to her uni days); she had a lot more weight on her. And looked healthy. She was already skin and bones when the engagement was announced.

  37. MaraJade says:

I’m not sure this dress knows how to function. Top half: it’s too wide along the shoulders, pleats something awful at the chest, hangs *and* looks bulky in the waistline at the back, and the seam across the waist pulls unevenly and looks too thick. Bottom half: I feel like the skirt really should hit just under the kneecap instead of above, and I’m not sure why there’s so much extra material in it when it’ll (clearly) crease and gather in volume at the back. The color is nice, I’ll grant it that, but it’s also a shade that should be played up with makeup (which, just, lawl).

IMO it could benefit from a lower waist, and from having some sort of belt thing in a contrasting color to shape and define said waist — e.g. by picking up that dark teal or blue in the purse.

…Okay, no better way to kick off the weekend than to get my nitpick on, apparently

    • vava says:

totally agree with your post! Waity needs a tailor in addition to a stylist. The hem on this disaster isn’t even even!

      • Minxx says:

It’s really unfortunate that she doesn’t tailor her clothes to her frame: she is tall, has a long torso and should always make sure the waist sits at a proper spot and the length of her skirts is right. Almost all of her outfits are too short and with waist too high – she looks like she outgrew them. Besides, she does not accessorize properly. This dress, for ex. is begging for a contrasting belt and, possibly, a brooch. Instead, she clutches a scarf in her hand and it looks completely out of place (I know it’s her tartan but it still looks out of place in her hand). She really lacks style and character and it shows – not everyone is blessed with great style but that’s what stylists are for. Lady Sarah Chatto looks impeccable.

  38. benny says:

If by “lovely” you mean “old,” then yes — yes she does look old.

She needs to hire a stylist who knows that “classy” doesn’t equal “old.” And her too-heavy make-up applied with a spatula and sharpie-pen eyeliner only age her even more.

Considering how much money and time she spends on her looks, she SHOULD look better than this. Kate was trying to be a fashion icon, but has turned into a big disappointment.

  39. Lisa says:

Re-upped fillers/botox in preparation for the Olympics.

    • Fedi says:

to a trained eye, Kate is quite obviously the victim of filler induced roundness. dermal fillers give the face volume, but unlike it’s real counterpart (i.e. fat), they cannot reproduce that dewy softness.

it would appear that she has had a combination of :

      (1) Radiesse: used to create the ‘scaffolding’ for her newly acquired cheekbones; it’s made of calcium-based microspheres (which are suspended in a water-based gel) so it must be injected quite deeply

      (2) Juvederm: used as the ‘padding’ for the cheeks over the Radiesse, to create the ‘apple’ fullness of the cheek; it’s made of hyaluronic acid, so it can be injected more superficially. she’s also injecting this into her laugh lines (aka ‘nasolabial folds’)

      (3) Restylane: also a hyaluronic acid, but since it is colorless, it can be used more even more closely to the skin’s surface than Juvederm; she’s using it under her eyes (aka ‘tear trough’) and in little spots all around her face

      (4) Botox: she’s using it judiciously (i.e. relaxes but doesn’t completely paralyze) in the ’11′ furrow between her eyebrows, the lines on her forehead, the marionette lines (aka ‘depressor angularis oris’ muscle) and her jaw (aka ‘masseter muscle’)

Her fingernails are beautiful because she doesn’t wear polish? So what does that say about her face, covered in heavy pancake make-up?

Ok, it’s PROBABLY not her fault that she has bad skin (although her smoking and eating disorder are not doing her skin any favors). But she really doesn’t HAVE to pile on the make-up and eyeliner like that, there are better ways to downplay the bad skin, thin lips, and beady eyes.

But back to her nails. I’m sure she was instructed to never wear polish that would detract from the cursed ring — you know, the ring that symbolizes a young girl who was lied to by a cheating husband, used only as a brood mare, her eating disorder ignored, until her husband dumped her and she died tragically at a young age. Yep, THAT ring. For some strange reason, the palace seems to think that cursed ring — symbol of a young woman’s unhappiness — will win over the public, so it should always be flaunted and displayed.

The dress is lovely, but someone hemmed it hastily to bring it to the desired length for this occasion, and the hem, especially in some views, is lumpy and slightly uneven.

She looks beautiful in yellow. I wonder why she had to put a brown-toned hat/fascinator with it. Brown/yellow combos, even when the brown is pale and soft, are not refreshing, imo. She could have taken the headgear in so many other color directions.

But yes, I agree this is a great dress and she looks lovely. (And yes, I think the apparent slight thickness at her midsection is due to the thickness of fabric combined with the line of the coat-dress, which is meant to be slightly away from the waist.

I think she makes expensive clothes, jewelry, & accessories look cheaper or less expensive with her hair style & makeup. I mean, if you’re going to wear something really nice & showy, then class it up already.

Re. Harry’s future title – I thought the second son of the monarch is always made Duke of York, no?k

    • JulieM says:

True, except the second son of the monarch is Andrew who already has the title.

Whether you like Waity’s style or outfits is completely a matter of personal taste. I tend to side with those who say she dresses too old for her age, and her outfits all have a similar look.

Having said that, besides the colour, which looks good on her, and the texture of the fabric, which I like, this dress is a train wreck. It’s probably $1000 and Waity makes it look extremely cheap because it doesn’t fit. The shoulder pads hang too low and there is too much fabric at the shoulders, making it look all bunchy. The collar looks like something off my ice-skating costume from decades ago. As is the case for almost every dress she buys, the waist is two inches too high, making her look like a six-year-old schoolgirl. The seam at the waist is all wonky and crooked, like many of her other dresses, making it look poorly tailored. I just want to yank the dress down to her natural waistline! The hem is a good length, but it’s rumpled and even more crooked than the waist, hanging way down in the back. Any tailor will tell you an uneven hemline is a poor, cheap look.

This dress apparently took six weeks to make, according to another site. It probably cost $1000. What a waste of money. One would think for that kind of money she could at least look dignified and elegant. Not our Waity.

Emilia Wickstead falls in the £1000 for basic ready to wear ie $1600 [depending on fx].

If this is custom made, then it will both be dearer, and is not a good show of Emilia’s tailoring skills. Infact, she needs to go back to school to learn that art because this is very poorly tailored especially for a custom dress.

For a former accessories buyer, her outfits are always decidedly lacking in accessories! This is a case in point – I like the dress (not as much as her Irish Guards dress tho) and I like the hat and I love the shoes – but all together they amount to a very bland ensemble because of the lack of accessories! Where’s the belt? A smart pair of gloves? a brooch or necklace? It’s like she didn’t have time to finish getting dressed. Disappointing.

Looks like someone’s hiding a baby bump… There’s no other reason to rewear that outfit with that gigantic bow.
