Miley Cyrus on Liam Hemsworth: ‘It just seems right to be wearing this ring’

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus covers the June issue of Elle UK, and the effect is rather underwhelming. Naturally, she’s sporting her newish punky hairdo here, and she’s dressed in Lanvin on the cover, but the shoot itself is pretty washed out with little effort on the part of stylists to refashion Miley as an adult pop star. Miley is a very pretty young woman who is clearly willing to push forth into daring new fashion territory, but I guess the magazine was feeling particularly uninspired. I don’t even know what to do with the “400 million people can’t be wrong…?” headline. What does that even mean in a Miley context?

As for the interview, what a mess. Clearly, the magazine spoke to Miley either before all of this Liam Hemsworth breakup drama or they caught her recently on a good day where she felt like wearing her ring. There’s no mention of Miley postponing her wedding or Liam Hemsworth repeatedly getting it on with January Jones. Instead, Miley talks up her strong relationship with Liam, and she stresses what a private person she is and how she never, ever overshares on Twitter. Right:

Miley Cyrus

On being engaged to Liam: “We have a house together and dogs. It just seems right to be wearing this ring and to be committed. But we keep our relationship low-key and don’t talk about it any more.”

She’s such a private person now: “We were too nice to the world and gave them too much insight — into my life and my puppies and my house –- and I just don’t feel they get that privilege any more. Like on my Twitter, I’m much more . . . not conservative, but you don’t see a picture of my dogs. You don’t get that personal stuff any more.”

She’s more than just a hot bod: “A star is someone who doesn’t have to take her clothes off to be sexy because you naturally have star power. Sex does sell, but you have to find a way that’s not just showing your tits. I don’t want to be a glorified model. They just walk on stage and it’s all about their clothes — or lack of clothes.”

Hollywood is weird: “This isn’t like any other place. Everything is meant to be attractive, from the people on the sidewalks to the gold fire hydrants in Beverly Hills.”

On fame: “I feel like Rapunzel. Rapunzel with a mohawk!”

[From Us Weekly]

Oh Miley. Look, I don’t want to knock this girl since I have a feeling that there’s some genuine sh-t going on in her personal life, but does she even realize how hypocritical she sounds with the “privacy” lines while she continues to tweet nearly every aspect of her personal life? Like, she’s actually claiming in this interview that she no longer tweets photos of her dogs, yet she does so on a near weekly basis and as recently as April 26:

Miley Cyrus

In other words, Miley is either blatantly lying about her quest for privacy, or she’s deluding herself about not sharing so much on Twitter. She’s still sharing all kinds of crap — and she may very well delete a lot of it, but she’s still got that unscratchable itch to shout everything to the world. If she were more honest about the topic, like say Rihanna (who admits that she enjoys the attention that her Twitpics bring), then it wouldn’t be such a big deal. But Miley wants to share her wonderful life with everyone all the time yet still claim that she covets her privacy. It just doesn’t wash.

Now back to this Elle UK photoshoot, which certainly isn’t terrible at all. It’s just kind of bland and could use some drama in the styling department.

    well isn’t it ironic..

  2. brin says:

Ugh…she’s all over the place, her immaturity is showing. Good thing she and Liam didn’t rush to the altar.

  3. Annie says:

The photoshopping on her arms in the first pic is ridiculous. Also, I’m assuming the photoshopping in the last pic was to remove the text overlay? Because it looks horrendous as well.

  4. Mia 4S says:

She has an insanely warped understanding of privacy. Miley, Christian Bale is private, Jodie Foster is private; you’re an obsessed attention-seeker.

  5. paola says:

If she had tits to show she would be on every mag showing them off.

  6. Dutch says:

The Rapunzel comment makes no sense, other than perhaps the world’s desire to lock Miley in a tower and forget about her.

  7. NerdMomma says:

I really love that last pic, which is clearly the cover with makeup photoshopped on…but anyway. With her hair and skin basically the same color, the smoky eyes and red lips really pop. Beautiful effect. There is so much this mag could have done with Miley!

  8. Ninks says:

Some of the shots are boring and crap, like the actual cover shot. But I love the black and white one.

She says ‘we’ gave the world too much insight into their private lives. But really, she means ‘I’. Miley’s the one who overshares while Liam actually manages to keep things private.

  9. Hakura says:

In the 2nd pic (in the cut-out mini dress), she looks like a Barbie with that dark shadow directly under her chin. The vapid expression probably isn’t helping either. (Or like a hanging victim…)

Boring shoot, boring interview. Move along, everyone. Nothing to see here…

  10. Renee says:

    Oh my goodness. Those teeth…

Also, isn’t this the same kid who sexed up her image to attempt to garner interest in her music career post-Disney???

  11. TXCinderella says:

She used to be really pretty, but now she just looks nasty to me, like she’s trying too hard to be cool and edgy.

    • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

I’ve always been mystified by anyone who thought she was attractive. When she cut her hair off, it put more of a focus on her disproportionate facial features and it made me realize just how unattractive she is!

      • Kristin says:

Thank you! I feel like kind of a bitch criticizing her looks, but I can’t help it. I find her so physically unattractive, especially her smile. There’s something so white-trash, buck tooth ugly about her mouth. And she’s not cute enough to pull off that hairstyle.

  12. Mabs says:

“Look at me, me, me! I am so immature, in your face and predictable!” Female Justin Beebs.

  13. Barrett says:

I know I should think she’s pretty. I am sure she is in real life, but I often think of a chipmunk when I see her.

  14. tifzlan says:

She is so ugly with that haircut.

  15. bns says:

I just want her to go away.

  16. Marty says:

I find as time goes on, I have more and more sympathy for this girl. It seems like she has a lot of of mental problems and is having a hard time figuring everything out.

  17. Jo Darby says:

It feels like she feels she’s supposed to be say all that stuff about privacy, like it’s what grown-up stars say or what her media training suggests. I think she is going through some personal stuff, I think she uses Twitter for ratification and, yes, attention.

  18. jojo says:

most actresses and actors are like this: They crave the attention, the ‘look at me’ syndrome while they are up and coming. They call the media, stage photos, force exposure, etc. Then once they hit it big, they all backtrack, declaring the ‘whoa is me’ line that they have no privacy.

same holds true for her ‘tits’ comment. She’s spent years and years flaunting her body. Now that she’s got the fame and money, she wants people to forget the body that got her there and remember she’s got real ‘talent’.

people that sacrifice their morals or beliefs for money seem quick to try to ‘buy their morals/beliefs back later in life, when they actually have money to do it.

    • Diana says:

She’s flaunting it right there in the same magazine where she says she doesn’t want to. Or isn’t that the WIDE side of both her boobs I’m seeing on than cover? Oh, the irony indeed.

    • blaize says:

I don’t think she’s saying it’s immoral to wear whatever you want- after all, this is Miley Cyrus we’re talking about. Like Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, and many other pop stars- are well known for wearing whatever they please and vocalizing their right to do so. (I say more power to them) I don’t think she’s saying it’s immoral to pose nude or semi-nude in a photo either- in my opinion, it’s not.

I think she’s saying she’d rather be like Angelina Jolie and Beyonce (both of whom she has in the past labeled as her role models. She has said she wants to be like them) than Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian. Angelina Jolie and Beyonce have both dressed provocatively many times and posed nude/semi-nude a few times, but that’s not all there is to them. They stated off as actresses and singers, and have some talent. Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, on the other hand, have no talent and would likely not be known without their sex tapes and stuff. Not that I’m stigmatizing a person of either gender who has made a sex tape, but I know that I prefer celebrities who have at least some talent over those who are just whiny/snobby reality TV stars with sex tapes.

To me, Miley Cyrus is somewhere in the middle of the Angelina/Beyonce, Paris/Kim spectrum. She’s not as talented as the first two women, but unlike the second two women, she does have some talent and doesn’t come off as mean. She comes off as a nice person who is just a little immature for her age. But I don’t hold that against her.

  19. Luxe says:

Yep. Still like a less-buff Susan Powter. And way more try hard.

  20. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Ugh she just grosses me out anymore. Hopefully Liam gets out..not that he’s a saint, but this girl…delusional mess.

ETA: We do not need to see up her nostrils in every pic. Even more gross after first glance.

  21. TheOneAndOnly says:

    I thought only american fashion mags were addicted to d-listers; Chipmunk doesn’t even belong on the cover of Field and Stream; Stop trying to make her happen – She has no real talent;
My son sent me youtube vids of Cream’s last concert RAH London 1968 that’s talent, not Chipmunk’s autotuned warbling – And can we please put models on covers instead of the same celebutards?

  22. s says:

we can say whatever we want to about her being immature, but damnit, she has grown into one sexy (as in is gorgeous, has a great body, let’s forget the personality for a sec) woman.

  23. KellyinSeattle says:

I am sooooooo tired of her.

  24. Mrs.Krabapple says:

They photoshopped away her double-chin and neck wrinkles. How can someone that young and skinny have a double chin and neck wrinkles?

And her cries for attention are just too much for me.

  25. blaize says:

I don’t care for the oversize open blazer on the cover, but she does look pretty in some of the photos. If only she would get rid of this hairstyle- I don’t like the cut or the color on her. Miley is someone who needs at least chin-length hair (preferably more) and should avoid light shades of blonde. She looks best with chocolatte brown, dark brown, deep auburn, or black hair.

  26. Itsa Reallyme says:

This child needs help. She’s not on a good path and it shows.

  27. mk says:

Her last boyfriend was Nick Jonas? Live a little, girlie. I’ve seen young love succeed but in the case of Liam and Miley, I think they need time to think things through.

  28. Kate says:

she’s got to do something because she can’t sing.
