Jennifer Aniston, in character, in gold aviator frames: flattering or dated & tragic?

Jennifer Aniston wears glasses and contacts in real life. I think she’s probably farsighted, although I don’t know for sure. When she was first starting out in Hollywood, she used to wear her glasses out and about, even on red carpets, but that stopped as soon as Friends really took off and she wanted to look “camera-ready” whenever she was out. I feel her on that – I hate wearing my glasses when I know I’m going to be out, and I try to save glasses-wearing for work and home (one and the same for me). So is Jennifer’s current film, Squirrels to the Nuts, the first film where her character wears glasses? It might be. And this is how they’re doing it? With gold aviators?

Granted, I have ridiculously strong opinions about frames, probably because I’ve had some really bad experiences with unflattering frames throughout my life. My current favorite frames are rectangular light brown plastic, very lightweight and flattering to my face. If I wore aviators, I would look like an a—hole. I would definitely look worse than Jennifer. But that’s not to say that Jennifer really pulls off these aviators. I don’t know many women who could.

As for Jennifer’s personal life… I have doubts about our tip a few days ago about Jennifer and Justin Theroux’s alleged wedding in Charlottesville. I don’t think it’s their style to just fly down to a winery (!) and have a quick ceremony and then go back to work in NYC like nothing happened. JustJen is going to spread this out. We’re going to have wedding drama for months longer, I think:

Love is most definitely (still) in the air! Jennifer Aniston and fiance Justin Theroux are “madly in love” and can’t get enough of their time together, a source close to the actress tells Us Weekly. And, despite recent rumors of a split, the wedding is still very much on.

Aniston, 44, is currently in New York City shooting upcoming flick Squirrels to the Nuts, and Theroux, 41, has been a frequent visitor on-set.

“Justin hangs in Jen’s trailer while she shoots,” a source from the set tells Us of the lovebirds. Most recently, the couple stepped out to dinner at Blue Hill restaurant on Saturday, July 20, the very venue where Theroux and Aniston celebrated their engagement nearly one year ago.

The actor’s writer mother, Phyllis Grissim-Theroux, was also on-hand for the meal. The Wanderlust costars also had a mid-afternoon date at AMC Lincoln Square, catching a screening of Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy’s The Heat.

Earlier this year, sources told Us that the Hollywood pair had put their nuptials on hold because Theroux was getting “weirded out” by the rush down the aisle. In fact, another source tells Us of the couple’s wedding, both actors are currently focusing on their careers.

“They just haven’t finalized plans yet!” the pal tells Us of the delay. In addition to their work obligations, the couple has also currently been overseeing a massive renovation of their $21 million Bel Air mansion.

[From Us Weekly]

Well, something has certainly changed lately, but I think it’s more likely that Justin is just in a better mood because he prefers being in New York. As for Justin “hanging out” in Jennifer’s trailer all day while she’s working… okay. Is that sweet? Is that what she wants? Is that all he’s allowed to do?

Uh, hm. Well, I reckon this is her attempt to demonstrate that she is a Serious Actress who is ready to Give Her All for a role.

    Mah gudness…bless her heart.

  2. Carolyn says:

This is what Aniston looks like without all the styling, help etc. Looks very manly…yes to the Tootsie vibe!

    • Belle Epoch says:

She looks just like her father.

      • Celeste says:

Seriously?!?? She looks nothing like her father.

      • Kitten Mittens says:

She did before all the cosmetic surgery. Her mother would often (allegedly) tell Jennifer all the features she hates on her face. They were all the features her father gave her. Her nose, chin, and how her eyes weren’t spaced properly enough to be found attractive. It was really messed up and lead to years of Jennifer’s obsessive nature about her body.

    • The Wizz says:

      YES! Dustin Hoffman all over!

    • Mairead says:

That is exactly who she reminds me of!

Jaysis, someone pissed off the wardrobe and hair department! Those glasses are boggin’ – even my dads cheapo Specsavers specials are better than that. If Matt Damon couldn’t look good in them, this one certainly can’t!

    • jojo says:

Dorothy Michaels, sweetie, I’ve missed you! Something’s telling me it might be you!

  3. Gina says:

They’re her own glasses, she wears them all the time, and yes, they’re awful.

What happened to the tipster? Was she just drumming up business for Pippin Farm or the catering company?

Shame, would’ve been good for gossip.

    • Mairead says:

      You are joking! 😯
And expensive frames last ages – I bought a pair of Gucci plastic frames 6 years ago that are still going strong.

I know where she’s coming from because I find it really difficult to find glasses that suit – I used to spend months, no lie – but never once did I lose my marbles enough to buy those ugly yokes!

  4. doofus says:

I think those frames would look bad on MOST people. But again, this is for a role, so…

ETA: Gina, really? wow, she CHOOSES to wear them?! awful is about right.

I do love those earrings and the black dress is great – simple, yet one of those pieces that you can dress up with jewelry and such.

  5. Cece says:

Since the look is for a role, who cares?? She does look older and a bit dowdy here despite the tight dress, but so what – I guess this is what she’s supposed to look like for the role?? I personally hate the glasses – they’re unflattering and age her, but they were not exactly her choice. I don’t think she’s a beauty and I have never gotten the fascination with her, but I can’t criticize her for a look that’s for a role.

    • Holt says:

And if these glasses are “dated and tragic”, then I guess Jolie and Pitt are also dated, and oh, so tragic! They wear the same frames for sunglasses. Tragic!!!

      • Celeste says:

What have Pitt and Jolie got to do with this? Seriously, its 2013 not 2005, get a grip. ~.~

      • Mairead says:

They work better as sunglasses in fairness, and they suit them better than Aniston.

  6. chloe says:

That wig does look like the tootsie hair. As for the hair, outfit and glasses those aren’t her choices but the wardrobe departments, so you can’t put those choices on her, though they really should put a bra on her in that dress, isn’t her character in the medical field? I can’t picture a medical professional going without one, plus that dress pushes the girls down.

    • Pinky says:

She is wearing a bra, I think. What she doesn’t seem to get is that she needs to wear a padded bra at all times, given how willful her nips are.

      • chloe says:

Your right I now see the straps, a t-shirt bra seem more appropriate coverage for the fitted clothing. I mentioned in a previous Jen nipplegate post that I go without when wearing some summer type tops, but I couldn’t go without one when wearing fitted shirts like that, my girls would be trying to escape. Plus I feel it’s inappropriate to go to work w/out one on, now if a couple of my co-workers would get that memo.

      • KatieD says:

        Willful nips, I love it!

  7. Jackson says:

She’s worn similar styles before in sunglasses, I think. Ugh. A style that has fallen by the wayside for a reason.

  8. Katren says:

Her nipples are just so ridiculous and distracting!

    • Marjalane says:

Ha! I wondered if she tweaks them herself, or has her assistant do it before walking out of her trailer. She’s very obvious with them.

      • Chutzpah says:

I wish people would stop bitching about this very subject – I have the same nips and padded bra or no if they want to poke out they just poke out.

Why does everyone get so offended by it its not like shes wondering around like half the women in my city in dresses so thin you can see their frkkin g string and butt hanging out.

      • Tanguerita says:

I don’t get it either. I’m not a fan of Aniston, but this nipple thing is getting out of hand. Mine are just as sensitive and react not only to the temperature, but also to the touch of any fabric. Are we supposed to wear an armor or what?

    • Joanna says:

funny, I never notice them until someone points them out. then i scroll back up and oh, yeah, they are.

  9. ncboudicca says:

Is it just me or does her face look really puffy in the shots that have been taken on this set? Fillers? Pregnant? Is she supposed to be a little heavier than she normally is, in this role maybe? But I think she looks cute in the jeans outfit – this is how I wish Jennifer Garner’s casual mom outfits looked.

    • Trek Girl says:

I think that’s just how her face is naturally. Her usual hairstyle just hides it.

      • emmie_a says:

That is not how her face is naturally… The puffiness is from overusing fillers. It looks horrible.

      • Trek Girl says:

@Emmie_a: I should clarify. What I meant by “naturally” — which was the wrong word to use –is that this is what her face normally looks like, whatever the cause of it is.
She’s had that look for a while, not just in these photos. It’s just hard to see with the hairstyle she usually wears.

I think it’s a combination of age and injectables.

  10. vale says:

I rag on her for never, ever mixing it up and staying static year after year… but now I see why. She’s lucky she’s found the look that works for her, because if it went wrong, it could go really *really* wrong.

  11. Emma - the JP Lover says:

Behold the ‘stumpy’ in the first photo.

  12. LL says:

To me she reminds me so much of Andrea Zuckerman with these glasses and wig/hairstyle. It’s like I’m about to watch an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210.

  13. grabbyhands says:

Wow, it just goes to show you how a bad haircut and an unwise frames choice can age you quickly.

    • Maria says:

Indeed! And it also goes to show you how ordinary she would look if it weren’t for Hollywood makeup and hair styling. In these photos, she looks like a normal woman in her early 40s. There’s nothing wrong with that, and she’s still cute, but it’s just interesting to see this Hollywood actress, regarded by many as a sex symbol, w/o all the smoke and mirrors, you know?

    • metallicwow says:

Yeah this proves she is ALL hair. Without that gloriously highlighted long hair, she is so average and plain (dare I say not even attractive?). I know that’s mean, but I’m just more than a little surprised since she is always hailed as one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood.

  14. Bianca says:

Well, it’s not her best look for sure. I do like the shorter hair on her, but that wig is awful.

  15. Dawn says:

I love glasses and wear mine all the time. I had to stop with contacts because the glare of our office lights and the computer just made my eyes sting with contacts in. As for Jen I think she has that bangin body going for her and pretty much looks okay in most things that she wears.

  16. Kiddo says:

That wig and the cut are growing on me, I think she looks cute.

  17. Helvetica says:

    Really unflattering

  18. Shauna says:

God. We women are horrible to each other. The wig isn’t the most flattering thing in the world but does ANYONE deserve to be called ugly or horse face? Really?

    • Lisanne says:

Please don’t lump us all together. Not all women are horrible to each other.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

+1, Shauna. Every time I click on an Aniston thread around here, I wish I hadn’t.

Rag on her for her bad movies all you want, but the criticism she gets for her appearance is mean-spirited on a level that I just can’t get down with.

    • UsedToBeLulu says:

      +2 Shauna.

I think the wig is cute, but it would look better a darker color. I don’t care for those glasses on her, personally.

    • lenje says:

Yeah, just like a post on Sarah Jessica Parker. If anything, I’d just think these are all jealousy because these “ugly”, “plain looking”, “manly”, “horse-faced” (in the case of SJP) women get called “beautiful” and can live in luxury.

    • doofus says:

seriously…especially when the things she’s called aren’t even accurate, like “stumpy” or “doughy”. But those things are usually hurled by people who don’t like her. (even if they refuse to admit it.)

she’s not the most beautiful woman, to be sure, but I also wouldn’t say she was ugly. she does the best with what she’s got (alterations and all), and I can’t fault her for that.

and all these people saying “this is proof that she’s nothing without all that styling”…MOST celebrities would be “nothing” without their styling. there are very few actresses or singers I’ve seen that are cute/pretty/beautiful without all their make up and hair work.

I think Mila Kunis is gorgeous when she’s all dolled up, but I saw a pic of her w/out make up and it was a “holy crap!” moment.

      • Gina says:

hello? where did my comment go?

Anyway, I said something similar a few days ago.

People seem to thing she’s fooling us all into thinking she’s gorgeous. They say ‘see? she’s all smoke and mirrors!’ but I think she just does the best with what she’s got.

I don’t think she’s beautiful, but I understand that beauty is subjective.

She’s more girl-next-door like Reese Witherspoon and Kate Hudson, but I don’t get why people get so riled up by her.

    • Emily C. says:

Women really aren’t horrible to each other. There are some women who hate Jennifer Aniston with a passion, and will tear her down any way they can figure out how. I think it’s to do with the interminable non-triangle of dull.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

It’s not about WHY they hate her, we all know why they do-it’s about how they express that hate that seems so incredibly juvenile to me.

      • Cece says:

I think woman are rough on each other, and it goes way beyond Aniston and Jolie.

But I also think that a lot of comments are a rejection of the perfect image that these celebs and their PR people push (i.e., it’s healthy to realize that a lot of the hollywood “perfection” is smoke and mirrors).

Folks are also tired of the fact that PR trumps actual talent far, far too much in Hollywood.

    • Becky1 says:

My theory re: the extreme JA hate is that there are a number of women out there who are envious that someone ordinarily attractive with fair to middling talent is a wealthy celebrity. They look at her and think “why her and not me?” There’s also resentment that she’s been falsely promoted as being “beautiful.”

I also think on some level there’s also envy re: her lifestyle. All of the criticism she gets for liking to party and vacation in Cabo is over the top-she’s certainly not hurting anyone. I think there are women who to some extent are envious of her money and freedom and this envy manifests itself in over the top criticism.

I’m not saying that this is the case for every woman who has a strong dislike for JA but for some women I think it is. I also think that just like all of the nastiness directed at SJP there are people aren’t comfortable seeing actresses who aren’t young and beautiful. It’s as though it’s a crime to be famous and not be gorgeous.

      • Joanna says:

I agree a million percent. Why would you put someone down for going to the beach
and relaxing? i lived near the beach for three years, it was packed every summer with tourists, laying out and drinking, too! omg! those horrible tourists!

you are right. people are so superficial, they hate the fact that someone who is average pretty had a hot husband, makes lots of money, and has a lot of vacation time. it’s like she’s like me, how come i’m not famous like her? they think she’s not that great looking, why does she have it so much better than me? sour grapes it’s her and not them.

      • Janet says:

@Joanna: There is nothing wrong with going to the beach and relaxing. But what else does she do? All you ever hear about her doing is going to the beach, relaxing, obsessing about her hair and her body, and gossiping with her girlfriends.

With all her fame and money, she is in a position to make a positive difference, as many celebrities have done. Yet she seems not to care about anything or anyone but herself.

She simply comes off as a very shallow, superficial and self-centered individual. It’s a type I’ve never liked very much.

      • Joanna says:

        @ Janet
        http://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/jennifer-aniston

this source lists 19 charities she supports.

people don’t like jen b/c she married out of her league and has made tons of money despite “no talent.”

      • Janet says:

@Joanna: How exactly does she support them? Anyone can have their financial representative cut some checks and toss them at some charities every twelve months. It writes off nicely for tax purposes, especially when they have no dependents. But does she ever go hands-on with any of those charities? I doubt it. It would cut too much into her beach time.

      • Annie says:

Does it really matter how anyone does charity?
I’m of a mind that the “hands on” portion is best left to organizations that have some sort of an overall plan and the experience to formulate one properly. (see Madonna and the 15 million dollar school whose funding never even laid a brick). Donating money, or your time / face / celebrity status is a lot more valuable to these organizations than having that same celeb slinging food in a Soup Kitchen.

      • lenje says:

There are aid and humanitarian workers e.g. those who work in the field full time, there are those who support the causes and charities with their money, fame, etc. – celebrities or not. How many NON-celebrities who are also hands-on in charity works? I also read the list of the 10 “most generous celebrities” in 2012 and was amused that most of them donated to foundations that they had built on their name. One can easily accuse those foundations are only created for tax exemptions purposes, don’t they?

But that’s beyond the point. Everyone is entitled to like or dislike JA because they think she’s a useless, spoilt person (despite the fact that we only know about her – and most celebs – from what they allow us to see in the media). My concern here is the tendency to attack people’s physical appearance. I agree with someone up, it’s juvenile.

  19. Tessa says:

I am more familiar with Jen’s hard nipples than I am my own. It’s to a point now where I’m starting to think she fetishizes about people seeing her nipples.

  20. Original Me says:

If I were her I would be mad at the styling department. She looks really really bad. Did anyone see The Reluctant Fundamentalist? Kate Hudson wore a brown curly wig and she looked gorgeous. Jen’s wig is awful. Plus she just looks so botoxy.

  21. Maria says:

Is anyone else getting a serious Jennifer Grey vibe from these pics, or is it just me? I feel like I’m looking at Ferris Bueller’s older sister twenty years later, on her way to work in middle management. If she were wearing a pair of New Balance shoes for the commute, the transformation would be complete.

  22. Jen says:

I know my mom said if I have nothing nice to say then don’t say anything at all BUTTTTTT sorry mom, I just have to say Tootsie vibe is so spot on.

  23. janie says:

Just go away.. with or without glasses! I’m sick of all these idiotic stories of her love life, don’t care. She needs to continue her quest for the perfect piece of furniture & quit attempting to act.

  24. teddy says:

She is finally stepping out of the sweetheart next door roles and getting into ACTING A PART Thats what good actors do. Applause……

  25. Paloma says:

I’m actually shocked to see her deviate from her normal appearance.

    • Kiddo says:

I see it as a good sign. Maybe she is trying to extend her acting range, which has always been a criticism of mine, in terms of her always playing a variation of Rachel. Good for her if that’s what she’s doing. Also, she is still attractive and hasn’t gone nuts with fillers, lip puffers and the waxy shiny pulled skin look. She still looks like a human being as opposed to others.

  26. Trek Girl says:

Flattering or dated and tragic? It’s all for a movie, so what does it matter. She looks the way she is supposed to look for the movie.

  27. Shannon says:

She bores me to tears. She gets frumpier and frumpier as she ages.

  28. Summer says:

why does her face look so puffy? what happened?

  29. Emily C. says:

The aviator frames are hipster junk. I’m actually having a hard time finding frames that don’t look like something I wore in elementary school in the 80s. So they’re hideous, but that’s the fashion.

The wig and the rest are really bad. I like her with short hair, but not THAT short hair. Who’s costuming this movie? It seems they think anyone who isn’t a fashion maven gets dressed and does their hair while blindfolded.

    • Joanna says:

IKR?! those ugly black frames that made you a nerd when you were a kid are popular now. how crazy!

  30. Kim1 says:

She looks homely because she is trying to win Oscar like Charlize,Nicole,Halle…

  31. Amber says:

She justs looks older and older every time I see some of her pics. IMO, she isn’t aging well. That ship has sailed.

  32. Janet says:

Wig, no. Dress, yes. The aviators aren’t too bad, actually.

  33. s says:

I don’t think she’s supposed to be very attractive in this move?

  34. Just Passing Through says:

I think she looks adorable in her jeans and long sleeved tee. Love those jeans!

  35. Jayna says:

It looks like she put too much filler in her face.

  36. skuddles says:

This is not a good look for Aniston. But then again, has she ever really had a “good look”? I mean aside from her hair back in the Friends days? Definitely not aging well.

    • Anna says:

not aging well!!! OMG! Did you looked around at women at her age?! Come on! You can blame her for a lot of things, but not for not having a great and shaped body.

      • skuddles says:

You’re right, she does have a good figure, without a doubt. I should have been more specific… I was referring to how her face is aging.

    • Joanna says:

she looks like all the women in her forties that I know. Slight signs of aging. I think she looks good. in real life, i mean

  37. Leek says:

Wow. Dude looks like a lady. Now we know who to cast if there’s ever a Tootsie remake.

    • lisa says:

she should seriously consider it, it might be successful unlike the long string of forgettable movies she has made

  38. xxx says:

Well gold frame glasses are back in style again but the hair and glasses make her look older. There’s a pig skin you put in your temples to make your face look younger and fuller, I think she has done that. A former friend had it done, grosses me out but it helped the friend JA is too rounded in the face now

  39. Sara says:

I think she wore glasses as the office assistant in “Just Go With It?” Kinda sorry to admit I watched that movie, but it had it’s moments.

  40. crtb says:

Really? people are criticizing her for what she is wearing for a movie? SMH

  41. Allie May says:

    I think she looks cute.

  42. Stef Leppard says:

That entire ensemble–wig, glasses, dress–may be the worst she’s ever looked. Is she trying to win an Oscar by going fug?

  43. Dagmar Unger says:

no need to tweak her nipples because when you have implants they will ALWAYS give you perky nipples as they are usually a degree or two lower than your body temperature

    • Annie says:

No they don’t. If that were the case, every woman in HW would be walking around with their headlights on.

  44. MyTaintedRainbow says:

I always thought she looks like Dustin Hoffman… now she has proven it.

  45. India says:

She is so plain bordering on ugly.

  46. Mel says:

I think many may be missing the point of her look here – as far as I understand, she’s *supposed* to look dowdy for a film, hence the brown wig and, yes, those awful glasses.
(Aviators can look good on some men; they never look good on any woman.)

    • Chloe says:

Um, sorry to ruin your excuse for her fug, but as I understand it, her character is not ‘supposed to look dowdy.’ If she was, she wouldn’t be wearing heels, and sleek outfits and tight dresses. Reportedly her character is a psychiatrist/psychologist, period. Last time I checked, playing a therapist of some type didn’t denote homeliness.

No, the REAL DEAL, as with all Anuston films, is that if the characterization should get in the way of how she typically LIKES to look, i.e., say it calls for playing a New York gallery owner, or a Boston psychologist, then the self-tanner, long layers and bleached blonde highlights and extensions (her 20 yr old poor Malibu Barbie impression) has to go by the wayside, upon which time, Anuston invariably gets a wig and keeps the self tanner. That’s the only thing she changes. So why people are inferring she’s fugged herself up, I don’t know. That’s her face. End of story. You apparently can’t handle the truth. Don’t feel bad, a lot of her so called fans refuse to, as well. She’s been so coddled for so long, they refuse to face reality.

The truth is: Aniston just has different hair sitting atop her face. She’s wearing no prosthetics ala Nic Kidman or Charlize Theron, and in fact, she’s wearing more glam make-up, with plumped up mouth, and fake lashes, etc., WITH the wig. So how do you surmise they’re trying to ‘dowdy’ her up? They’re actually doing the opposite and she’s STILL fug.

In fact, her insecurities under the wig are so readily apparent, she actually attempts to work herself back into Rachel Green territory, as if the glam makeup and fillers and tan weren’t enough, her wardrobe on this film consists of nothing but tight fitted sexy clothes. Again, not exactly screaming “dowdy,” as you maintain.

The truth is: You are seeing the number one reason why she never changes her hairstyle right in front of your eyes and yet you do not want to acknowledge why. She is plain and unattractive. The tan, the clothes, the nipps and the blonde hair falling over her face, have fooled a lot of people.

She knows this more than anyone, which is why she tries to over-compensate with heavier glam makeup, cosmetic procedures, showing nips and wearing sleek tight clothes.
