Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist told her it’s fine to sleep in your makeup

FFN_Jenner_Bday1_VMFF9_102715_51890515

Here are some photos of Kim Kardashian exiting Caitlyn Jenner’s birthday party earlier this week. She looks really tired and really over it. “It” being pregnancy, I’m assuming. Kim’s life seems rather tiring, meaning that it must be exhausting caring only about superficial things, all day, every day. One of those superficial things? One of Kim’s biggest inspirations, Charlotte Tilbury, never lets her husband see her without makeup. Tilbury is a famous British makeup artist who works regularly with people like Kim, Amal Clooney, Sienna Miller, Penelope Cruz and more. Kim presented Tilbury with an award at the InStyle event earlier this week, and Kim revealed her goal is to be more like Tilbury, in that Tilbury sleeps in her makeup and never lets her husband see her without makeup. The hell?

While many tried to counter fashion’s vapid reputation, Kim Kardashian brought us right back down to earth with her speech introducing Makeup Artist of the Year honoree Charlotte Tilbury, who is also the makeup artist of choice for Kate Moss and Penélope Cruz.

“I’m going to make this quick because my heartburn just kicked in, but Charlotte Tilbury is my hero because she has never let her husband see her without makeup on. She sleeps with her makeup on. She’s my idol. She’s inspired me when I am really lazy and I can’t do my makeup the next day, so I’ll sleep in my makeup. I know that’s probably the worst advice, but she has all the magic creams to put on the next day to make up for it.”

Having established the importance of never showing your husband your unadorned face, she went on:

“Charlotte is also one of the most energetic people. The person who is doing your makeup is so in your personal space, and she makes you feel like you’re her sister, but is so professional. She believes that makeup makes you feel empowered and confident, and I love that about her. Truly, if I wasn’t doing what I’m doing now, I would be a makeup artist.”

[From The Cut]

I can’t imagine being so uncomfortable in my own skin that I wouldn’t allow another human being – especially the man who married me!!! – see me without makeup. I mean, that’s pretty rich for me to say considering I ran out of f—ks years ago and I only wear makeup, like, once a year. I honestly do NOT understand how people can sleep in their makeup. Don’t you feel gross? Doesn’t everyone feel itchy and dirty if you don’t wash your face before you go to bed?

On a parallel track, I never understood how people could NOT wash their face in the morning either – that’s one of Salma Hayek’s pieces of beauty advice, she says women shouldn’t wash their faces in the morning. WTF?

My dermatologist told me years ago that it’s not always necessary to wash your face with soap / cleanser in the morning, that I could just rinse it off with lukewarm water. (I have mild adult acne but my skin tends to be dry). I have done it off and on for a while now, and my skin is okay with it.

Sleeping in my makeup though, ewwwwww no. I’m getting itchy just thinking about it. I do wear light makeup whenever I leave the house – generally just foundation, concealer and brow pencil – but I always wash it off before bed. My pores would explode otherwise, lol.

    • jwoolman says:

Some women even bathe in just warm water with no problem at all, and your private parts will thank you if you avoid using soap on them. It probably depends on the individual, what’s on their skin, and what exactly they use to clean it (including tools like washcloths, a rough washcloth probably is all you need at most for most things). I’ve used Shaklee Basic-H all-purpose cleaner for everything (house, dishes, laundry, cats, my body and hair) for decades because it’s totally fragrance free (which used to be nearly impossible to find), but it is also close to skin pH (very slightly acidic). I have to wash my hands many times a day and it doesn’t seem to bother them at all. Alkaline soaps are probably rougher on the skin.

      • Ifusayso says:

Huh? I don’t know what you mean but your partner will thank you for using soap to wash your butt/genitals. Why wouldn’t you use mild soap and water to clean the area where waste and blood exists your body?! Barf!

      • Wiffie says:

@ifyousayso. You should never put soap on the *ahem* inner lips, or anywhere pubic hair doesn’t grow. Just no. Butt is fine. But never on mucous membrane skin. She’s right. Messes with the natural bacterial balance and get into problems.

      • Nancy says:

Correcto. The lady down there is self-cleansing. It’s true girls, ask any of your doctors. All that performed douche and scented soaps isn’t doing anything but causing trouble. A perfect organ that receives the finest of attention when properly attended to by the proper person!

      • Ifusayso says:

Not buying it. If you’re sexually active, you need to wash! I would never douche or shove soap up my vag but a washcloth and some unscented dove? Every day girls!

      • Mieke says:

        @ifusayso Wow, just wow.

      • qwerty says:

        ifusayso
Are you as adamant about washing the inside of your nose with soap daily..? Since, you know, blood and other stuff comes out of there…

      • Rachelnz says:

Ifyousayso clearly has no idea and probably smells because of the soap. Does your partner really thank you?

So sick of people picking apart every comment thinking they know all

      • Ifusayso says:

Rachel, you’re so mature! Telling someone give never met that their vagina smells bad, in comment on a gossip site? Sophistication at its best!

No, my partner does not literally thank me for washing my body daily. If you’d read the first comment you’d know that the OP said “your lady parts will thank you” (DO HER LADY PARTS REALLY THANK HER?!) and I was using the same figure of speech.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

My derm told me the same thing. My skin tends towards dry and sensitive, so it might not be best for oiler types, but I have noticed a difference since I stopped cleansing in the AM.

      • Sonya says:

I workout 3-4 mornings and I wear sunscreen. I used to wash my face and then put the sunscreen on. Now I skip the morning wash (I clean all my makeup – I don’t wear much more than powder and mascara – off and wash my face last thing before bed) and I put the facial sunscreen on and do my workout. When I finish I wash my face with warm water. My skin is so much happier now. It’s weird. I feel like I’m not doing enough, but the proof is all over my face! lol

    • DesertReal says:

I’m a woman of color with pretty solid skin & I never wear foundation- only a light moisturizer & sometimes a little loose mineral powder. Other than mascara & a little lip stain I don’t have any makeup to remove. I do rinse before bed (usually) but that’s about it. My skin is okay with it as well so… No harm, no foul.

    • manda says:

yeah, I think it all comes down to what works for you. some people break out super easily, some don’t. some people don’t really seem to get wrinkles. I don’t usually wash in the morning because I’m lazy, but I will swipe some mircellar water (micellar?) over my eyes to get the sleep gunk gone without actually using my fingers to do that.

    • dee says:

I wonder what their pillows looks like…

      • Shaunna says:

Her pillow must be full of makeup since she puts it on so thick and I will bet the sheets are covered in tanning products. Kim is so uncomfortable in her own skin that she feels the need to wear makeup to bed and has had plastic surgery for her face (at least 7 times), breasts, buttocks, and who knows what else.

      • bellenola says:

        Super gross.

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

        My first though

      • tealily says:

I’m sure she has someone change her sheets daily.

      • Pandy says:

@Shaunna – ha ha – you must be right, especially about the tanning spray stains lol. What a stupid story/stupid women.

Can only add re Salma Hayek and not washing in the morning – I do that too – just rinse and moisturize/sun screen, etc. Because I wash it before bed lol. So no need to wash it again and strip moisture. I use oils to wash and moisturize as well.

      • Andrea says:

Doesn’t Kanye like white everything? This makes me cringe just thinking of the pillowcases!

      • qwerty says:

Her own sheets is one thing. Imagine the mess she leaves behind at hotels… I’d be ashamed.

    • lizzie says:

i have combination skin and break out in my dry areas. i had terrible acne in my late teens and 20’s and my entire face changed when my derm told me the same thing. wash at night – rise with warm water in the am. it has totally improved my complexion. i also no longer breakout on my back/neck/chest b/c i stopped using soaps/loofah’s directly on those areas – just hot water. i am shocked that 1) i don’t stink and 2) it really works!

      • qwerty says:

I had backne for like a year, then I discovered it was hair products (shampoo with silicones, conditioner, leave-in spray) messing up my skin. Now I only wash and rinse when leaning forward with my head upside down and put a towel on my shoulders after getting out of the shower, then immediately a shirt until my hair is dry. Also, no more products with silicones. Backne gone.

    • sarah says:

THIS IS VERY TRUE if your skin is sensitive to chemicals in everyday soaps (like; dove, dial, neutrogena) and most people ARE sensitive… many just don’t realize until they stop using soap and start using just warm water and a cleansing pad.
I’ve found using natural remedies such as an oatmeal scrub and coconut oil is more than enough for my skin. I had the WORST SKIN a few years ago, no coincidence this was when I used soap after soap with no positive changes…

    • sherry says:

When I was Kim’s age, I routinely went to bed with my makeup on. Now, I always wash my face before bed with coconut oil, then follow up with a toner and moisturize with coconut oil mixed with Frankincense. In the morning, I use the toner and a tiniest amount of the coconut oil before applying my makeup. It has given me the best skin of my life.

And, as someone who has been married for almost 20 years, I cannot imagine my husband never seeing me without makeup. That’s just odd.

      • Elisa the I. says:

Please explain. What kind of cococunt oil are you using for washing / for moisturizing? My masseur recommends it as well and I tried 100% pure coconut oil, but it’s so bloody oily/liquid and I smell like a coconut. So I stopped using it as a moisturizer.

I clean my face with micro fleece make-up removal pads (you can wash them in the washing machine) and warm water. No soap or anything, because my skin is so dry.

      • sherry says:

I use Nutiva’s Organic Coconut Oil. I buy it in huge batches. After I slather it all over my face and neck (sort of like if you were washing with soap), I take a warm washcloth and wipe it all off. It gets pretty much everything and what it doesn’t get, the toner does. My face just feels really smooth afterward.

I also exfoliate every morning in the shower.

      • tarach says:

remember when Russell Brand posted then wife Katy Perry with no makeup? this is why, they wear makeup to bed, I guess…in any case, what a jerk move.

        http://nypost.com/2010/12/31/russell-brand-tweets-picture-of-wife-katy-perry-without-any-makeup/

      • Andrea says:

I never thought it was a jerk move. If she wasn’t comfortable makeupless, she isn’t comfortable with herself IMO. Russell complained it took her an hour and a half to go anywhere because of the makeup…that is a bit much!

      • qwerty says:

” If she wasn’t comfortable makeupless, she isn’t comfortable with herself IMO.”

OK, so she isn’t comfortable with herself. Does that mean she deserves to be humiliated publicly for it by her husband? I despise KP but really, how does that work?

      • Andrea says:

How is it humiliation though? It wasn’t that bad of a picture..

      • Elisa the I. says:

@sherry: thanks! I will give it antother try. My masseur is around 60 and she doesn’t have any lines or wrinkles in the face. She has been using coconut oil for 20 years…

      • Cat lady says:

How do you mix the frankincense with coconut oil? a few drops of frankincense essential oil with a slab of coconut oil?

    • Ana A. says:

I have very sensitive skin. Everything more than water and a washcloth will make my skin ache and causes breakouts. I only wear makeup once in a while and then I use mild washing lotion. Otherwise water in the morning and evening does the job pretty well.

    • Isabelle says:

My doc said if you have oily or skin it clogs easily, it’s the only reason why you should wash it in the morning. Don’t wash it if you have dry or sensitive skin, just a splash of warm water.

      • Petee says:

I was just thinking that a lot of people on here must have very dry skin.I am half Native American and my father was very oily.My sisters and I inherited his skin.If I didn’t wash my face twice a day(especially in the morning) it would be a big oil slick. On the up side I am 52 and do not have one wrinkle.Getting back to Kim her face look’s very strange in these pictures.

    • Cee says:

I would NEVER go to bed with a face full of make up. Even in my partying years my friends would marvel at the fact that I would be ready to pass out but I’d still remove my make up, lack of coordination and all.

      • Marrrrria says:

My friends tell me the same, but I honestly couldn’t sleep if I had my make up on.
I break out quite easily and I’d feel disgusting if I’d wake up all smudged and gross. And it wouldn’t be because of the hangover! Yuck!

      • qwerty says:

Hungover is terrible enough by itself, no need to make it 100 times worse by waking up in smudged make up with last night’s clothes on and no shower ugh….

    • Lisa says:

I followed salma hayeks advice and my skin has never been better! Just rinse face with water in the morning, and rinse with water and cleanser in the evening. I don’t wear make up to bed, so no need to rinse with cleanser when I wake up

    • DrM says:

At almost 50 I have zero wrinkles or lines, no acne and aside from a bit less volume (more visible cheekbones), I look pretty much as I always have. I have washed all of my makeup off my face every evening and have used moisturizer and cleanser since I was 19. I have never baked my face in the sun. Having lived in Canada as a child and in Australia and New Zealand since my mid thirties this is really important. I also just use warm water on my face in the morning and for the last year or so have been using a light retinol cream on my face at night. My dermatologist here in NZ says you HAVE to clean your face well if you wear makeup on a regular basis and you must wear sunscreen, particularly on your face, neck and chest where the skin is thin. Not just for cosmetic reasons but to also prevent skin cancer. KK is either talking rubbish – or her dermatologist is. Terrible, terrible advice.

  2. MexicanMonkey says:

The idea of not washing my face before going to bed seems disgusting. And I can’t stand wearing makeup more than a few hours at a time,my face feels sticky!

    • hadlyB says:

Me too. I only wear tinted moisturizer and I still hate feeling it. But I look better with mascara and some liner on the top lid.

I used to have very bad acne and had to wear those heavy heavy foundations just to be able to look people in the eye. Now its cleared up and I had laser for the scars I try not to wear makeup as its very freeing.

So basically Charlotte Tilsburys skincare line is not needed then, she is stupid to even say that. I noticed as of now she has no “night” skincare for sale unless I am not seeing it. Or does she say to put her skincare over old makeup and go to bed??

    • skcord says:

I shower, wash my face and moisterize before bed. In the morning I use only warm water and sunscreen. I rarely have breakouts since adopting this routine and it makes the morning routine quick!!

  3. Loulou says:

Ew, that made me feel gross and sweaty just reading it. Her pillowcases must be nasty as hell. Take off your damn makeup and let those pores breathe woman!

    • saras says:

I always imagine all of their new money white furniture streaked with self tanner and makeup. One of the staff is probably responsible for stain removal and scotch guarding everything! Sad that they can’t just be happy in a natural state. For a group that started out naturally attractive but made the awful mistake of having plastic surgery at ridiculously young ages they have to cover scars/ botched surgery with caked makeup. Kim et al over 40 will be freak shows more than they are or they will suicide because they have no value other than appearances. VALUE YOURSELVES MORE PEOPLE!

    • claire says:

It’s nasty as hell and I imagine her skin underneath all those inches of slop is in terrible shape.

  4. Nancy says:

I’m in my late thirties and ran to the store without makeup….zilch. I was laughing because when these younger woman are labeled “brave” to go without makeup. Kim is so sucked in and tucked in, I don’t see any difference. If you don’t want your man to see you as you are naturally, you have zero self confidence and consider beauty a bag full of products. She is a scared little girl who doesn’t have a clue what true love is. BTW wearing makeup to bed is gross and not a friend to your skin. Vapid twit

    • swack says:

I haven’t worn make up (except mascara and blush once in a while) since I was in high school. Even when when I worked. It’s really sad if your significant other can’t see you without it.

    • Loulou says:

I’m with you, @Nancy, I can’t imagine being that high maintenance.

    • Kitten says:

      Totally. We are SO brave!
      *high fives Nancy*

…and then there are guys like my boyfriend who HATE makeup and tell their girlfriend every day that she doesn’t need it (I do VERY much need it BTW!).

But yeah, I wear a little bit to work every day so on the weekends it feels nice to be bare-skinned.

      • Nancy says:

What do men know?! Mine doesn’t like it from a paint box either…..but I wear a little blush to scare away that ghostly white and a little mascara and lipstick and when I’m vamping a tad of eyeliner. Got to go a little crazy sometimes.

    • Snazzy says:

What a sad sad existence she must lead to have to wear make up like that all the time!

  5. Kaye says:

She looks poured into that dress. Seriously, how does she even get it on?

    • Sabrine says:

She gets it on because it’s not a dress. It’s a top and a bottom and is super stretchy. It would be very easy to get on. It also looks very comfortable, no binding in the stomach area, just nice, stretchy fabric, great option for a pregnant woman.

      • minx says:

I dunno, she doesn’t look comfortable to me. She looks miserable and poured into that mess.

      • meme says:

she looks like giant condom or stuffed sausage. her style is hideous. I have never seen a pregnant woman dress like this and I’ve seen a lot of pregnant women who wear great clothes and are very comfortable in them. I doubt many pregnant women are comfy in stillettos.

    • Daria Morgendorffer says:

I’m not the kind of woman who picks at other women because they choose to wear a full face of makeup or like to dress up. I’ve actually had people that I know talk sh-t about me for things like that and it sucks (I dressed up to attend Thanksgiving at my bitchy cousin’s house and caught her talking sh-t about me in the next room because she felt I was “overdressed” I was super hurt by that!). But I have to admit, I saw some pictures recently of a photoshoot Kim did for Vogue Spain and they had her with little-to-no makeup on and she was dressed down for a change and I swear, she instantly seemed more likable.

My opinion is generally “to each their own” but this woman really takes vanity to a level that turns the stomach. If she would just calm the f-ck down with the need to be sexy at all times and wear a pair of jeans and sneakers, she would seem so much more down to earth.

This is one of the pictures that stood out to me:
      http://sketch42blog.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/kim-kardashian-vogue-spain-9-560×560-750×750.jpg

I just feel like she looks more normal.

  6. Pixi says:

I was with you all the way, I too can’t go to bed without washing my face and tend to only put on make up when I’m going out, so rarely these days, but I only wash my face once a day and not in the mornings, unless I’m getting ready to go somewhere important. It’s worked for me so far…

    • Josephine says:

I’m with you. I wash really thoroughly at night but only splash in the morning unless I’m sweaty. I have dry skin so over-washing is a real problem with me.

    • Kitten says:

I used to really love makeup when I was in my twenties but with every year, it just feels like work and worst of all, it takes away from valuable sleep time in the morning.

      • Antonym says:

This is why I never really started wearing makeup, except for special occasions. I’m mid30s (maybe late 30s?), and sometimes I think I’ll grow up and be willing to give up that morning snooze time, but so far💤

  7. AmyB says:

That is sad and pathetic. I am not a big make up girl to begin with….never have been, never will be. I do like to get dressed up, but my version of made up is eyeliner and lipstick. LOL. I much prefer being more natural and I am 45 years old. I cannot imagine being married and refusing to have my husband see my face without make-up. Talk about shallow. Some people really need to be hit with real world problems……ugh Kim. I will cherish the day when the Kardashians are no longer a “thing” in today’s society. They are horrible role models, vapid and narcissistic vultures, and it truly makes me sad that our younger generations look up to them!

    • denisemich says:

I am a big make-up girl and still think what she said is sad and pathetic.

Most men do not like a lot of makeup. I have had boyfriends say they didn’t know the diff, which po’d me and is a different story.

Her message is no one will love you if you aren’t thin, exaggerated and vapid. She is the LA cliche.

  8. jwoolman says:

Didn’t some maid reveal her sheets/pillows get coated in makeup? Or was that somebody else? If so, maybe this is something she really does routinely. Sounds so 1950s, when I learned from TV that married couples always slept in separate twin beds, children were brought by the stork, and women wore makeup and pearls 24/7 (including of course in bed).

Her poor skin. I’ve never felt the urge to use makeup, so no personal experience with it, but doesn’t the skin need a break from it periodically?

    • Daria Morgendorffer says:

I’m not sure about the maid, but I’ve heard Rob say it to them on their TV show. Probably just another reason that they dropped him like a bad habit, LOL. His sisters were lying on his bed and he said to them, “get off! Don’t get makeup on my sheets…You’re gonna mess up my sheets!” and they acted so offended.

I wear makeup every day, of course nothing like the women in this family, but I do even out my skin with either power or a tinted moisturizer and I wear mascara. I personally believe that skin does need a break from makeup periodically. The issue with sleeping with makeup on is not only that it’s gross for your pillow and pillowcase, but also that it supposedly prematurely ages people. Skin needs to breathe.

  9. Anastasia says:

Considering how much makeup she wears, that’s extra gross. I wash my face when I get home from work!

As for my husband, he loves my face without makeup. All that talk about her husband never seeing her without makeup made me feel sad.

    • lucy2 says:

Yeah, it’s not like it’s a little mascara and lip gloss, that stuff is applied with a trowel.

  10. astrid says:

that sounds gross. I suppose if someone else is washing your sheets everyday, that could maybe be ok once in a while. Could a good friend of Kim’s please tell her to put on some comfy sweats and a t-shirt and put her feet up? The crazy clothes, heels, and tight hair make me squirm on a good day but she’s 7 months pregnant – give yourself a break!

  11. Tiffany27 says:

So I guess all those “no makeup” photo shoots and pics on Instagram are lies? I am SHOCKED.

    • swack says:

No makeup for the K’s means only one layer.

    • parissucksliterally says:

Hahahhaha – right? “no makeup” “no filter”

      No TRUTH

With the amount of makeup she shellacs on her face every day, how can she not wash it off?
Her makeup artist is not a dermatologist, why would she listen? Oh yeah, because she is dumb as a box of rocks.

  12. jwoolman says:

She actually looks okay in these pictures. But doesn’t that length of dress of that style make it hard to walk? She wears that type a lot, and it always looks as though she has to take small steps in them. A looser long dress or a short dress wouldn’t have that problem. Or are they easier to manage than it looks?

    • Dr. Funkenstein says:

I don’t think she’s ever walking far, anyway. And I’d bet the shoes come off the minute she’s in the vehicle.

  13. Green Is Good says:

Kim’s misery is a refreshing tonic. I hope her swollen hooves have to be extricated from her $3000 dollar shoes with the Jaws of Life.

  14. Mia V. says:

If your husband can’t see you without make up, he shouldn’t be your husband and you should look for a doctor.

  15. GingerCrunch says:

And she’s raising a daughter!!! Huge shudder.

  16. NewWester says:

Now every paparazzi and tabloid will be out in force to catch Kim without makeup. Not some retouched image she posts on Instagram. This woman sure knows how to keep people talking about her

  17. Lilacflowers says:

Because smeared mascara and lipstick all over one’s face are so attractive.

  18. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I wear makeup most days because I like to, but I never sleep in it. Disgusting. And the saddest part to me is not letting your husband see you without makeup. If that makes a difference to him, you have a pretty shallow relationship. My husband loves me when I’m dressed up to go out, and he loves me when I’m sick and ugly. When I was in the hospital for six days last spring, the back of my hair got tangled into this big crazy knot and he tried to brush it for me. Disaster. We were laughing and later my nurse told me that we seemed like newlyweds. We’ve been married almost twenty years. I feel bad for anyone who thinks they have to be beautiful all the time to be loved.

    • Kitten says:

Aw that’s sweet Gnatty. Your dude sounds like a good one. ♥

I’ve always been under the impression that most guys hate makeup. At least that’s how the majority of guys I know feel…

    • AmyB says:

^^^ that is perfect and adorable. I was married for ten years and can relate to what you wrote. My ex loved me dressed up, or in sweats when I was covered in baby vomit lol. If you feel you have to be “made up” all the time….that is sad IMO.

  19. Barrett says:

I am 40 and my husband tells me he likes me also natural. I take care of my skin and am over the acne of years ago so it’s not like I look freaky w it off.
Also I wash w clarisonic and cleanser. My derm also said just rinse in am. Overwashing w cleanser for some of us can cause drying and then over oil production to make up for the dry leading to acne.

  20. Kath says:

I last wore makeup to a job interview a few years ago.

I suffered horrible acne for a few years in my late teens and was always having to cover it up. Now that my skin is good, I can’t bear wearing makeup. It just feels like a layer of dirt on your face.

How these women can wear 10 pounds of the stuff every single day, smothering every pore, beats me. Yuck, I feel like scrubbing my face just thinking of it.

  21. Mimz says:

    Again, I ask.
How do you wake up and “not wash your face” in the mornings? don’t you shower? Can you shower without wetting your face?
It seems impossible to me. Much like all those times my mom told me to go swim with my face out the water. WTF?
Anyway, I cant sleep with makeup on unless i had a few to drink and i walk home and all i see is BED. and i hate waking up to a dirty makeup smudged pillowcase.

    • Kitten says:

Yeah the times that I’ve fallen asleep with makeup on were times that I also fell asleep with my shoes on. lol
I usually wake up in a panic too because if I do that it inevitably leads to break-outs.

I don’t wash my face in the AM because I usually shower the night before to save time in the morning. But I always use a toner to clear off whatever night cream/retinol/overnight peel or whatever that I put on my face the night before.

I make my own toners from rose water and a bit of blended oils and a small amount of witch hazel.

      • Mimz says:

        HI KITTEN!!!! 🙂
I’m actually trying to figure out what face products to use, I never knew until 4 years ago that you needed to use face cream instead of body lotion, because, well, i never really payed attention to that. but then i was advised to use face-specific moiturisers, and ever since i have been on a mission to find nice products t take care of my skin.
I like that you make your own toners. Maybe I’ll look for recipes and try to do that.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

The times I’ve fallen asleep with makeup (and/or shoes) on, I have to get up in the middle of the night and wash my face. I hate it that much.

The toners thing is cool. I’ll have to try that.

      • Marty says:

@Mimz- Finding out what works for you really just depends on your skin type. I swear by the Shea Moisture face bars, they use more natural ingredients and don’t leave my face feeling dry and tight. And like many others on here I don’t wash my face in the morning unless I’ve been wearing a sleeping pack, but I do use a Konjac sponge with warm to lukewarm water.

Hope you’ve been finding some helpful tips on this thread!

  22. Patricia says:

I know it’s really cliche, but it’s always when I don’t have any makeup on and I have my hair in a sloppy top knot that my husband looks at me and says “wow you look beautiful today”.
It’s really sad for her that she doesn’t get that kind of simple, loving boost of confidence and true love from her husband. The more I learn about how she sees herself and how she views womanhood, the more I just feel bad for her.

Also I saw a tutorial she filmed with a makeup artist about her contouring makeup. She wears alot, and I mean ALOT, of makeup!

  23. Bluey says:

Is she still wearing Spanx? Is that even healthy for the baby at this point?

  24. Asha says:

Whoa… anyone notice Kims eyebrow is working again?

  25. JudyK says:

Since beginning to wear makeup, I have NEVER washed my face before going to bed. A friend recently told me that I look at least 10 years younger than I am…something I hear all the time.

    • Kitten says:

So you go to sleep with makeup on?

      • JudyK says:

Yes, but as someone else said, by that time, it’s nearly all off anyway. The point is that I don’t wash my face at night and load on all kinds of moisturizers, and it hasn’t affected my skin in a negative way at all. I shower everyday and wash my hair nearly every day, as well. I also get manicures and pedicures every few weeks, but I’m just not someone who likes to spend a lot of time on myself…my makeup is all on within five minutes every morning.

    • thelazylioness says:

Judy I’m the same way. I don’t wear makeup every day but if I do it’s just translucent powder and eye makeup and lipstick. I have energy issues so I tend to sleep in this makeup once or twice a week. I’m 50 and I’m routinely told I look much younger. I think foundation is the biggest offender when it comes to clogging pores. I cannot wear foundation. I find it extremely uncomfortable and have very oily skin that I’m blotting all day. Of course I shower every morning and wash off whatever’s left of my eye makeup but I truly believe less is more with my skin. I used to obsess with retinol, peptides, etc. and my skin looked awful.

  26. Tifygodess24 says:

I must be gross with Kim then because I never wash my makeup off, although it’s not for vanity- I’m just too damn lazy and forget. BUT I will say I put my makeup on first thing in the morning ( when I actually wear it ) and I can tell you by time I lay down at night it’s all but gone anyways. I do however slater some moisturizer on and I’m off to sleep. Im also not a big face washer, my face only gets washed when I have to wash makeup off. And I have to say as gross as it sounds to some, I get compliments on my skin all the time. No acne, not greasy, even tone, so it can’t be all that bad! I mean don’t get me wrong I shower everyday, so it’s not like the water isn’t hitting my face at some point anyways I just don’t do some kind of ritual. I also think using high end makeup has also made a big different for me and we know Kim isn’t wearing wet and wild! Lol.

  27. msw says:

I am so grateful to have a spouse who actually prefers me without makeup. If people want to wear makeup, that’s great, I enjoy it now and then. But idolizing someone who is literally afraid of being seen without makeup gives me the sads.

I never used to wash my face in the morning, but now I do, and you can’t argue with results. Washing my face twice a day and giving it a swipe of toner or witch hazel makes my skin happy, and it’s the only thing that keeps my ridiculous adult acne in check.

  28. Angie says:

What kind of marriage do you have if your husband can’t even see you without makeup? That is absolutely ridiculous and idiotic. Girl, bye. No wonder the Kardashian/Jenner women look ancient with the exception of Kendall and Kourtney.

Kylie looks 39! I saw a close of her at the Balmain/H&M show and she looks way beyond 18.

    • Holmes says:

I have a friend who does this. In the time that I’ve known her, no one, including her husband, has ever seen her without makeup. She goes to sleep with it on, gets up at 4:30 to wash her face and redo it, and reapplies liberally throughout the day. I couldn’t do it, but that’s also probably why I’m single.

      • Angie says:

That’s insane! I’m single too, my dating pool is nearly non existent but I’m absolutely certain no one would actually give 2 shits if you wore makeup or not if they truly loved you.

Sweet Jesus… At 4 am? She must have some deep rooted issues to be that frantic. She’ll regret it later in life when her face turns into an old leather purse.

  29. TheOtherViv says:

If KK was an intelligent educated woman I would have said that this speech is full of the most backhanded compliments I have ever encountered. Who needs enemies, right? I have read a few Tilbury interviews and she seemed quite fun and down to earth- I somehow don’t think that she would have loved to have personal tidbits of information (likely exaggerated tidbits) exposed to millions.
I love makeup, but I can choose my Now-You-See-It-Now-You-Don’t- versions depending on mood and day. I HAVE fallen into my bed with my 8a.m. makeup on – but by then it was usually close to gone. My hubs loves me with and without, but yes, I have occasionally secretly put concealer under my eyes at night or a dab of mascara on a Sunday morning when I am up early and lounging and he just marvels how fab I look always. He is clueless about makeup when it’s subtle,, but he can tell I look fresh. So I am 20% down with the idea occasionally but am totally throwing shade at KK for thinking a full face is normal and “oh wow genius, bible!” Sigh.

  30. Nicolette says:

“Charlotte Tilbury is my hero because she has never let her husband see her without makeup on. She sleeps with her makeup on. She’s my idol.”

Of course. Who else would a shallow, vain, vapid person idolize?

  31. Ennie says:

LOL at the coats! Her as* must be a thing of the other world!

  32. maura says:

So someone is her IDOL because they never let their husband see them without makeup? Is this really how she defined an idol? What about people who genuinely go out there to try and make a difference in the world? She makes me unnaturally angry when she opens her mouth. Her entire family are influencing a generation of teens to be as vacuous and self-absorbed as they are. I would never wish for something truly terrible to happen to a person, but sometimes I do wish they could know hardship or something to put their damn lives in perspective.

  33. lkaye says:

My favorite line “if I wasn’t doing what I am doing now, I would be a makeup artist.” Even she doesn’t know what the hell she does.

  34. Mylene - Montreal says:

terrible what she said … Her hero is a women who sleep with her make-up. Do you realise Kanye want to be president in 4 years ?! …………. I’m happy to be canadian when i see this idiot.

  35. lucy2 says:

“Charlotte Tilbury is my hero because she has never let her husband see her without makeup on.”
    Aim higher, Kim.

  36. Eleonor says:

I am 34 going 35 and never wear makeup only lipstick, sometimes. I have a good skin (thanks mum) and I really like to take care of it: I wash my face in the morning and before sleeping, and moisturize it twice a day, and sunscreen in the summer.
Having said that: I wish I could say it’s something I do to improve self confidence and all the cool stuff… but the reason I don’t wear make up is… I AM LAZY. So I don’t get how the hell these women do.
My boyfriend is very happy about this, btw.

  37. SydneySnider says:

“… that’s pretty rich for me to say considering I ran out of f—ks years ago and I only wear makeup, like, once a year. I honestly do NOT understand how people can sleep in their makeup. Don’t you feel gross? Doesn’t everyone feel itchy and dirty if you don’t wash your face before you go to bed?”
Exactly, Kaiser. I think I’ve also worn make up once this year. In August. I only did it for my daughter, who was a finalist for a very prestigious award in her industry, which she won. I may have worn make up another time this year, but if I did, I can’t remember it. And I can’t to wait until I get home to remove the slap. I had the wet wipes in my hand by the time I got to the lobby, and 7 minutes later, when the cab dropped us to our car, my face was once again squeaky-clean. When we got to my son’s house nearby for bevvies, a wash with gentle cleanser and my favourite, excellent and cheap moisturiser, and….oooohhh, is that an espresso martini…?

  38. meme says:

I would like to hear a dermatologist say it’s OK to sleep with 10 pounds of makeup on your face every single night for years and years.

  39. Jaded says:

Her pores must be so clogged she’d need a Drano facial to unclog them. How utterly revolting.

I haven’t worn foundation in ages and my skin looks just fine – I figure why use it if you don’t need to? I put on eye shadow and mascara, a touch of lippy and blush and that’s it. Sometimes some mineral powder if it’s hot and humid and I’m shiny. And I too just rinse with warm water in the AM. AND I let my boyfriend see me without makeup too, he loves me with or without.

  40. Mabel says:

I sometimes fall asleep before removing makeup. But my skin looks and feels nicer when I remove it and moisturize before bed.

  41. Wren33 says:

Well, considering how it probably takes her 3 hours to apply that makeup and an hour to remove it, maybe it would be easier to just sleep in it. She probably has maids who change her pillowcases every day.

    • Daria Morgendorffer says:

True, good point. You’re right about the maids. I wrote in my comment that her pillow and pillowcases must be disgusting, but I wasn’t considering the fact that she is waited on hand and foot. Still, the pillow must be nasty.

“It probably takes 3 hours to apply that makeup.” This made me laugh, but sadly it’s true. I watched a video tutorial of Kim’s makeup once and I was totally blown away by all of the crap she puts on her face. She uses multiple brands of foundation and concealer and layers them over each other. She does the same thing with mascara–multiple coats of multiple brands. I just don’t understand the need. If it weren’t for the copious amounts of cosmetic surgery she continues to have over the years, Kim’s skin would look 3 times the age it really is. I don’t believe our skin is meant to hold all that crap on it all of the time. Makeup is fine, but not layers and layers of it.

  42. NeoCleo says:

I’m nearly 60 years old, always washed my face, never made it a habit to sleep in make up and quite frankly, I’ve got marvelous skin. I’m sure caring for it helped enormously.

  43. tealily says:

I’m in my 30s and I have never, not even once, in my entire life slept in my makeup. I would be a greasy raccoon mess when I woke up!

    • word says:

Plus what would your pillow look like lol?

    • Isabelle says:

Same. Would drag myself to the sink if I had to, it’s just one of the I have to do it habits. Also as a person with forever acne it would destroy my skin. Acne galore.

  44. Janie says:

I think it’s more disturbing that the only things in her orbit is makeup, clothes, weight. She can’t have a thought or a conversation about anything else but those three topics. She stopped growing emotionally around 15 or 16. It’s pathetic and sad. Smh.

  45. Daria Morgendorffer says:

Whether or not a person should wash their face in the morning really depends on their skin type. If someone has really dry skin, there is no need and it’ll likely only dry their face out. If someone has oily skin, it’s probably a must.

I don’t understand how this makeup artist sleeps in her makeup. Her pillows must be disgusting. A clean pillowcase and pillow are a big part of keeping healthy, clear skin.

Kim never stops sounding like a complete f-cking idiot.

  46. word says:

She was “too lazy” to do her make-up in the morning? Since when does Kim do her own make-up? Please. Also, sorry Kim, but you’ve already showed everyone what you look like without make-up…though I do believe those “make-up free selfies” are not really make-up free. She even did that “make-up free” photo shoot which was highly photoshopped and airbrushed. We did see her make-up free on early episodes of KUWTK though. Never sleep in your make-up. It’s bad for your skin and you’ll look like a f*cked up racoon in the morning anyways. Also, I don’t wash my face in the morning either. I just use toner, then moisturizer, then make-up. Washing your face too much is not a good thing either.

  47. Maya says:

In another register : her boons look amazing. They are so big but for once they are not squeezed and so well maintained. Can’t stop staring at them

  48. Jag says:

I used to sleep in my mineral makeup sometimes, but without eye makeup.

The reason I don’t sleep in eye makeup – especially mascara – is that one of my cousins went blind because she slept in her mascara and it caused bacteria to get into her eye. Mascara is one of the worst offenders for becoming contaminated. She went blind within 3 days, and that’s a lesson I learned early.

Protect your eyes and skin by not sleeping in your makeup.

    • boredblond says:

That’s really frightening, and I’m guilty of keeping mascara around too long because I rarely use it. Thanks for the reminder to toss the old stuff today.

      • Antonym says:

I rarely wear mascara as well (though I wear it more frequently than other makeup) and was also guilty of keeping it too long. I switched to buying the super small trial size at Sephora and toss/replace in Jan & June. Still rarely wear it, but now I know how old it is and I don’t feel wasteful for tossing a rarely used full sized tube.

  49. Alana says:

Maybe it would be ok every now and then and assuming you don’t wear 3lbs of makeup like you do Kim.
Your husband NEVER seeing you without makeup is pathetic. How insecure are you? Good luck North

  50. K8typat says:

Stahp trying to make the choker a thing!

I think water is really drying and I only wash my face when I shower every second or third day. I pile vitamin c, serum and moisturizer in the morning. Retinol in the evening. I wear powder as foundation sometimes and always mascara, Brow, eyeliner. My skin looks better than ever at 43.

    • parissucksliterally says:

She looks so horrible in those chokers. I don’t know why she insists on wearing them.

  51. prettylights says:

I only wash my face at night with African black soap (this stuff is amazing – since I started using it I have smaller pores, more refined and even skin tone, and hardly get blackheads or clogged pores anymore) or olive oil soap and in the morning I just rinse my face with warm water. Actually washing your face with soap twice a day can cause dryness and breakouts. I don’t think it’s bad advice at all to not wash in the morning.

I wear makeup daily but I always wash it off at night. I hate sleeping in my makeup – I feel so gross the next morning and always get breakouts.

As far as your husband never seeing you without makeup…that’s just…weird to me. My husband has seen me sick, exhausted, hungover, etc with no makeup and he doesn’t care. He’s also seen me all dolled up, and he still doesn’t much care, ha. I mostly wear makeup because it makes ME happy and I love playing with it and creating different looks. I just feel more presentable when I have a little on. I have pale skin, blonde hair, light eyebrows and eyelashes, and pale lips naturally so I look pretty tired/washed out without a bit of color. Foundation, blush, eyeshadow, mascara, and lipstick are my daily go-to’s. I look a lot younger without makeup and at work as a manager I need to be taken more seriously so it helps to wear some makeup and look older. To each their own though. I have tons of friends who don’t wear makeup and are so so gorgeous, and their SO’s love them all natural.

  52. Keiko says:

Oh! I totally do not wash my face in the morning. I just don’t want that shock of being awake. Plus, it just feels so nice and smooth after a night of being moisturized. I will however wash my face if it feels greasy. If it doesn’t, i’m good to go!

  53. Whatwhatnot says:

I have to wash my face in the am. Not only because of the oil build up on my nose/forehead, but also because i tend to drool at night lol and also because those eye crispies. I d wash with Cetaphil in the AM though, because it’s gentle and helps keep my skin balanced..

  54. antipodean says:

I guess it helps that she doesn’t have to wash her own pillowcases or sheets then!

  55. sorella says:

If I were her, I would hate that my husband and the world(!) has to see my extra-wonky right eyebrow and camel-looking, jacked-up injected face everyday!! It’s MUCH worse than people seeing her make-up less. Cuz Charlotte’s magic with makeup ain’t doing squat to hide how messed up her face looks now. I LOL how all that work to look younger backfired on her an made her look worse.

She makes me angry as well. So vapid. Does she even know what the word IDOL means??! She has the brain of a Junior High School girl (sorry JH girls). Like she runs her brain at 2 speeds only, stupid and clueless.

  56. I Choose Me says:

I refuse to sleep in makeup. I don’t care how tired I am, I’m rinsing that stuff off. Easy to do since it helps that I usually only wear lipstick and mascara. Foundation and face powder for special occasions only.

Also, like Kaiser, I must wash my face in the morning. MUST.

  57. Bassza says:

I dont always wash my face before bed and my skin has no problems. I dont wear a lot of make up as it is, perhaps thats why?

  58. amp122076 says:

I remember reading somewhere that a housekeeper of hers reported that Kim’s bedroom/bathroom are a MESS – mostly with foundation all over the towels, sheets, countertops and vanity. That’s my big thing with going to bed with makeup – it gets all over the sheets! YUCK!

  59. HK9 says:

If it takes 3 hours to put the makeup on, you better take it off. None of that stuff was meant to be slept in and if you do it often enough you will eventually start to have adverse reactions to it. Is she so lazy that she can’t even do that for herself?

  60. prissa says:

“…Charlotte Tilbury is my HERO because she has never let her husband see her without makeup on.”

This is about the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. Her HERO? Really??? What an empty, superficial person. Poor North…

  61. Lostara says:

My favourite make-up god (Jeffree Star) always insists on that: NEVER sleep with your make-up! Let your skin breathe at night!

And as his skin is almost flawless, the guy must do some things right. Anyway, I believe him much more than some woman who doesn’t show her make-up-less face to her own husband. Poor things, this husband and wife.

  62. Ifusayso says:

The idea that a woman wouldn’t leave her home without make up makes me alternately sad and disgusted. Your natural form isn’t something to be covered up. Fk anyone who tells you different. I wear make up on nights out. I feel better and sexy. But I go about my daily life without it most days. Why should I slather myself in oily chemicals so the people at target can look at me? And my kids? They need to see mama as a normal person so they don’t grow up and believe they will not be respected in society without makeup every time they walk out the damn door. Kanye never seeing Kim without makeup? These people are so immature I can’t even fathom it!

  63. MrsK says:

You know your clothes are too tight when we can see the floral jacquard pattern of your bra through your top.

Her face looks like a Kabuki mask. Such a shame.

Also, I’m pretty sure that regularly sleeping with your makeup on is an express road to bad skin. Back in the day when I wore countless layers of mascara, I had cotton pads and makeup remover on my nightstand right next to my clock and contact lens case. No matter how late and great the evening, I never went to sleep with mascara. It’s really common sense.

  64. themummy says:

I always wash my face at night if I am wearing makeup (with a very simple homemade soap). If I am not wearing makeup, I might just do a few swipes with a cotton ball with witch hazel on it. I never wash my face in the morning. I splash with water and use witch hazel and that it is! Simple and very easy on my skin. I’ve done this for years and no acne or dryness.

  65. Jenni says:

You are missing the point. Go on youtube and watch Sali Hughes “In the bathroom…” interview with Charlotte. She is talking there about bedroom makeup and all that stuff.

  66. Andrea says:

I cannot believe no one has mentioned Gwen Stefani—-she needs to give her a call. She stated several times she never let Gavin see her without her makeup and we all see how that worked out for her!

    • M.A.F. says:

Yeah, I don’t think that is why they are getting a divorce…after 20+ years of being together.

      • Andrea says:

Of course not, but someone who loves themselves so little to not let their husband see them makeup free and for the husband to allow it, speaks volumes about their relationship.

  67. emma says:

She looks good without makeup. Let it happen Kim.

  68. Andrea says:

I always take my makeup off (when I wear it) before I go to sleep at night. My boyfriend has always preferred me without makeup and same with my exes as well. Most men hate kissing a woman’s face when they have makeup on. Most men I have met who prefer women with makeup are very shallow and looking for flings/one nighters.

  69. KiddVicious says:

I was once asked what I use to take off my makeup. I replied “my pillow” .

  70. M.A.F. says:

I’m not going to lie: I wear make-up to bed…when I’m lazy and too damn tired to stand up. If I’m just wearing tinted moisturize then I’ll just wash my face off the next morning but if it’s late and I have full blown eye make-up then I suck it up and wash my face. The only other people I know of who said they wore make up to bed was Carmen Electra and Apollonia and that was due to being Prince’s girl.

  71. raincoaster says:

I don’t care if she sleeps in her makeup but I wish she would not wear transluscent, skintight tops over lacy bras. For a second there I thought all that “texture” was veins.

  72. Veronica says:

I’ve done it plenty often when I’m too lazy to take it off, but I’d never apply it before bed on purpose. I’m too restless of a sleeper – those pillows would be covered in makeup, haha.

PERSONALLY, I find it odd to be married to somebody you don’t feel comfortable being the basic “you” around, but these women have an image to sell, so it’s their decision. If that’s what makes you happy, more power to you.

  73. TopCat says:

I’ve slept in my make-up a few times as a teenager when I’ve come home from a night out but I love to wash my face. I just feel fresher and cleaner. Plus I have naturally oily, acne prone skin so I like to clean it morning and night. I also don’t think it’s very healthy for the eyes to sleep in mascara/eye-liner as they can seep into the eye and agitate.

  74. hayley says:

What happened to her? That face and the severe hair…… Jocelyn Wildenstein (the cat-faced woman) is starting to come to mind when I see pictures of Kim.

  75. Jesme says:

She is starting to look like a cross between a cat and a turtle to me…that’s all I got !

  76. Amanda G says:

God that face…why did she do that to herself? She was such a beautiful woman and now she looks like a fish and she looks the same age as her mother.

  77. pk says:

She really isn’t very pretty anymore to act so vain

  78. yep says:

Falling asleep with makeup on? Guilty as charged. This has happened on more than one occasion. Nothing says sexy, rolling over to face my husband, and its not my morning breath thats startling, its the mascara all over my face.
Seriously. Its gross. But you wouldnt believe my freaking days. Exhaustive. Very.
But I ,way more often than not, wash my face before bed. My husband deserves a fresh face and clean ponauni to ravish.
Kim has a terrible habit of giving crappy advice. Along the lines of Paltrow’s crap spouting out of her mouth.
Thats what happens when you have not a care in the world, selfish, vain, narcissistic.
