We learned in June that Athina Onassis’s 10 year marriage to Doda Miranda was in shambles. Allegedly, Doda had been having an affair with a friend, and Athina’s bodyguards discovered the affair (Doda was sleeping with the woman in the home he shared with Athina). We later learned that the separation had gone down in March of this year. Athina is one of the wealthiest heiresses in the world, and she is The Last Onassis. She lives a luxurious life, with homes across Europe, America and Brazil, but most of her life was based around her love of horses and her love of Doda. So it’s sad, and I’m sure it will get sadder as the divorce progresses. I seriously doubt Athina is looking for the next guy or the new boyfriend or the next husband. But that hasn’t stopped the tabloids from speculating that she’s spending time with Prince Harry.

The Australian magazine New Idea reported that Athina Onassis — heiress of Greek tycoon Aristotle Onassis — found comfort in the arms of her close friend Prince Harry of Wales, after her devastating divorce with Brazilian Alvaro de Miranda Neto.

The magazine cites sources who are well acquainted with the British royal family. “He may have no shortage of female admirers, but Prince Harry appears to be
 a sucker for a damsel in distress – providing a shoulder to cry on for his pal Athina Onassis in the wake of her heartbreaking marriage split,” notes the article.

“Harry has known Athina for years. She’s a regular in the international equestrian set and they have lots of mutual friends,” royal confidante Jessica Hay told New Idea.

Onassis broke off her decade-long marriage when she caught her husband having a one-night stand with the blonde sister of an international equestrian, in their home in Wellington, Florida last year. Alvaro de Miranda Neto was caught in the act by his wife’s security team.

In case anyone is wondering, Athina is only 31 years old and by all accounts, Doda was her first and only boyfriend before they married. Prince Harry is also 31 and as we’ve seen, he’s always been a hit with the ladies. Beyond that, I think we’ve already established that Athina would not be Prince Harry’s type. It wouldn’t surprise me if Athina and Harry did know each other a little bit though – she’s so involved in the horse world and so is Zara Phillips. Zara and Harry are really close, so maybe Zara introduced them? Who even knows? Actually, I do. I know Harry isn’t going to end up with Athina Onassis. It would be an interesting pairing, but this is more like “let’s create a story out of these two people being single.” Now, all that being said… Jessica Hay has broken a few stories in the past. She’s not reliable, but she might be a good guesser.

Last thing… Page Six had a story about Athina’s divorce proceedings a few days ago. Athina apparently filed for divorce in Belgium, where she has a home, but Athina has apparently hired a ball-busting New York divorce attorney to represent her interests. The lawyer is Robert Cohen, and he’s represented Chris Rock and Ivana Trump in their divorces. Sources tell Page Six that Cohen was hired “oversee legal strategy.” Doda is also in Rio right now, at the Olympics.
