Terry Crews threatened with losing job unless he dropped Adam Venit suit

Terry Crews has a lawsuit pending against his attacker, Adam Venit, and the agency that protected Venit, William Morris Endeavor. If you are unfamiliar with Terry’s claims, you can read about them here. Even though most involved have acknowledge Venit acted inappropriately (criminally) to Terry, almost nothing has been done about it. So Terry is taking them to court to seek some kind of punishment for their actions (or inaction, in the case of WME). Terry’s case has been out of the news for a while. That doesn’t mean, however, that the lawsuit isn’t forefront in some people’s mind. There is a team of people behind closed doors working on it – but not in a good way. To show that Hollywood refuses to change a damn thing, Terry’s next job on Expendables 4 was threatened if he didn’t drop his lawsuit. Terry wrote about it on his Twitter:

Sly is, of course, Sylvester Stallone and the Expendables franchise is his baby. He not only stars in them but also writes the screenplays. Last year, Stallone was supposedly leaving the franchise due to creative differences with the same Avi Lerner Terry mentioned in his tweet. At the time, it wasn’t known if the franchise would move on without him. However, just last month, there were murmurs that Stallone might, in fact return. And then Terry got the call from Lerner to drop his lawsuit. This all looks really ugly for Stallone, and that upsets me because for better or worse, I have always had a little soft spot for Stallone.

The good news is Terry will still not be intimidated. I hope he doesn’t lose work because of this lawsuit. It’s not fair that he has been made to pay so much for what someone else did to him. Venit is back at work after a ridiculous one-month suspension and Terry – his victim – might possibly be deprived a paycheck because he chose to stand up for himself. It ridiculous and unfair. I hope Brooklyn Nine-Nine devotes an episode to this. You know those folks have his back. Good luck to Terry and his family as he has to deal with this bs. I will protest this nonsense by not watching Expendables 4 but then, I didn’t see the first three so that isn’t that much of a statement, I realize. #JusticeforTerry!

This is why victims do not speak out. The bullshit continues.

    • dreamofadream says:

This is just so wrong. Terry please know that it takes courage and even though it might cost you work you will forever be a legend when this sees the light of day. So many other men have gone through this. Shame on Hollywood for doing this man dirty twice. #isupportterry and no matter what happens you will always be a champ.

  2. Hazel says:

He & his wife are a great looking couple. I hope he prevails in his lawsuit. He seems to be the kind of guy with the tenacity to take it all the way, however long it takes.

  3. Maya says:

Not surprised about Sly – my dad used to tell me that Sly doesn’t seem to be a nice man in real life.

Plus I remember hearing some rumours of him hitting his ex wife.

  4. pix says:

I support Terry Crews 100%. Stay strong.

    • INeedANap says:

      TEAM TERRY

He probably has a world of people fighting against him, as do most victims. I hope he knows he also has a large support network of anonymous fans.

  5. Hum says:

The complicit and toxic behavior is still the normal behind the scenes, the speeches are just a lot of words but so little actions, they keep choosing who are the victims and who is touchable or defended

  6. Tiffany says:

Terry is the best part of those films, so yeah, go ahead and threatened the only highlight of the film.

If he is gone, so am I.

  7. littlemissnaughty says:

Didn’t Sly allegedly abuse his sister? And that 16-year-old in the 80s? I wouldn’t be surprised if he considered this a boys’ club favor.

I love Terry Crews, I hope he stays strong and continues to call out this behavior.

  8. Domino says:

Some dude was telling me he had seen sexual harassment laws get people fired in his workplace, ergo sexual harassment laws work. Except they don’t. They often turn out like this. You say something, you are labeled trouble, you lose work, and you keep losing work. So without a mountain of financial cushioning, you are screwed. F*ck Adam venit and Sly.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

Thing is, maybe it’s hard to fire you and maybe you get some money. BUT nobody is obligated to hire you afterwards. Unless your employer stands behind you, you’re screwed.

  9. Lovey says:

Terry is working the hell out of that suit and that big gorgeous smile.

  10. Valiantly Varnished says:

I would rethink that soft spot for Sly. He has allegations against him for assaulting a woman when she was 16. Not to mention he’s a misogynist.

    • Tiffany says:

People seem to forget how much Jennifer Flavin put up with before he became this cool cat who loves hanging out with his daughters.

      • Valiantly Varnished says:

Yeah the white-washing of his image after they got married didn’t work on me. I am old enough to remember all of that. But what I remember most are the interviews he used to give. One of my favorite magazines back in the day was Movieline. They always had great interviews (its where I found out what a sleazebag James Woods is – in his own words). Sly gave a pretty in depth one and it left an impression on me: that he finds women disposable. Did he perhaps mellow with age? Sure. Did having daughters change him (insert eye roll). Sure, why not. But he was well into his fifties when he settled down. And that leaves a lifetime beforehand where he was an utter *ouchebag.

    • V4Real says:

Who knows maybe he’s changed. If we see Crews in Expendable 4 then we will know Sly stood by him. He did it once before when the big wigs said that now we have Wesley Snipes we don’t need the other Black man in the film. Sly fought for Crews to stay a part of the cast for Expendables 3.

BTW I like the Expendable Franchise. I have nostogla for the old action stars of yesterday.

  11. Reef says:

It’s pretty amazing how determined Terry Crews is in getting justice for himself despite the obstacles. Good for him.

  12. Feebee says:

Well if nothing else Terry has grounds to sue the producers if they don’t hire him. It may not work but it’s a pretty clear case that he’s being intimidated and threatened with losing work if he doesn’t back off legitimate legal action.

This a Adam Venit thing is so infuriating. WME needs to be investigated, their name has come up in so many incidents. And if Sly comes out on the wrong side of this, stuff him too.

    • ol cranky says:

wouldn’t telling Crews that he needs to drop the suit or lose a job be extortion?

    • deets says:

It goes to show how it’s not just one person who allows this to continue.
It’s the whole set of people who minimize, question and don’t believe the victim.

Just let it go, Terry, it’s not a big deal. I’m sure people have told him variations of this,he’s a guy with guy friends, and it’s so wrong.

  13. schmootc says:

Glad this isn’t about Brooklyn 99!

  14. Amanda says:

This is so beyond wrong. This is just one of the MANY reasons victims are afraid to speak their truth. Terry is such a delight to watch on screen. Wishing for bigger and better opportunities for him.

  15. JRenee says:

This is why he hesitated to name the guy or physically push him away. It’s terrible that after all of the revelations this sort of intimidation is occurring in the midst of the process.
I hope all involved are named and exposed.

  16. Somegirl says:

I wonder if this is why Terry wasn’t on the second season of BeastMaster on Netflix? My husband and I watch that together because it’s silly and generally safe viewing for the toddler in the room, and the second season really hurts for lack of Terry. Stalone is the executive producer of the show, I believe.

  17. WendyNerd says:

SO relieved that it wasn’t the Brooklyn 99 people. I hope he adds his paycheck from E4 to the settlement.
