Elton John performed four songs at Harry and Meghan’s reception

We didn’t get the Spice Girls reunion I was hoping for, but there was some top-notch entertainment at the royal wedding reception.

In an official statement released by Kensington Palace on Saturday, it was confirmed that the Rocket Man himself, Sir Elton John, performed at the lunchtime reception at Windsor Castle after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. The statement read:

Prince Harry asked Sir Elton to perform at the Reception which was hosted by Her Majesty The Queen at St George’s Hall, Windsor Castle. Sir Elton performed for the newly married couple in recognition of the close connection he has with Prince Harry and his family.

According to the Daily Mail, the Prince brought Elton, who attended the event with his husband, David Furnish, to the stage by jokingly asking attendees, “Does anyone here know how to play the piano?” The 71-year-old singer performed four songs for the 600 guests, “Circle of Life,” “Your Song,” “Tiny Dancer” and “I’m Still Standing.”

Elton is kind of an unofficial member of the royal family by now, isn’t he? He was a guest at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Westminster Abbey in 2011 and, of course, he sang a special version of his hit song “Candle in the Wind” at Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997.

As much as I’m a Spice Girls stan, and thought Victoria looked very nice at the wedding, I don’t think you could get better entertainment for your special day than Sir Elton.

Nice of him. Though odd to see the Queen mimic his facial expressions during the service. Come on guys, it’s a wedding! Maybe they were thinking of Diana and feeling sad.

….but oh, with regard to evening reception entertainment, I want pictures of the Will-Harry-Charles dance off with James Corden that everyone is mentioning.

    • Ellaus says:

I want to see it too, the dance, and the beerpong match that Serena won, and Clooney dancing with Meghan and Kate…

So many things… So little coverage…

  2. Alix says:

All those millions and that’s the best hairpiece he can come up with? Mind-boggling.

  3. Pinar Okur says:

    What about the spice girls???
    Nothing happened?
    Mel b should answer that?

    • Peg says:

Mel should know what they say about ASS U ME.

    • BJ says:

Mel C they weren’t even invited to the wedding so Mel B just made it up.

    • Milla says:

Its Elton John. He doesn’t need spice girls or anyone else. I want to get married and have Elton sing. Otherwise, what’s the point

“Your Song” is my all-time favorite song.

    • megs283 says:

I would go complete fan girl if I heard him sing “Circke of Life”! I think my favorite is “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues”. – not really wedding appropriate!

    • lucy2 says:

Your Song and Tiny Dancer are my favorite of his.

I’m so jealous of both these receptions. They sound amazing.

Why not Something About the Way You Look Tonight?

    • BrandyAlexander says:

Or Believe, which is a personal fave of mine. But it’s Elton – I would be happy if he got up there and sang the alphabet song, just to see him sing.

  8. Electric Tuba says:

I love Elton! Grumpy Bear is the best ❤️

  9. Millie says:

I think my favourite thing about this story is that when Will and Kate got married, Elton was there but it was Ellie Goulding who sang Your Song for their first dance as a married couple. Harry And Meghan got the real deal and then a few more songs thrown in. I feel like there must be a bigger story there.

  10. Ange says:

David Furnish is ageing wonderfully, that is all.
