Guy Ritchie spends time with Madonna & Lola, nicknames Mercy ‘Koala’

According to Katie Nichols at The Mail, Guy Ritchie and Madonna have been spending more time together since she adopted Mercy from Malawi. Even though Madge’s baby-and-fame-hungry ways were one of the reported contributing factors in Guy and Madonna’s divorce, it seems Guy has completely “thawed”. Guy is utterly enamored with Mercy. In fact, Guy might have been the first person Madonna asked over to her London home after Mercy was hand-delivered. According to the Mail, “Guy… was invited to meet Mercy and he spent Friday night bonding with Madonna and her daughter.” Guy has nicknamed Mercy “Koala” and has reportedly “fallen head over heels” with Mercy/Koala.

It’s also claimed that Lourdes is a huge factor in Madge and Guy: Part Deux. Lola seems to really miss Guy, and she’s been begging her mom to stop with the drama and make nice, so they can have some semblance of a family. God, it seems like Lola is the brains of that operation, doesn’t it? Lola’s probably just sick of hanging out with Jesus. He can’t be that interesting:

When Madonna announced she wanted to adopt another African child, it was the final nail in the coffin for her turbulent marriage to Guy Ritchie. But now Mercy James, the four-year-old whom the singer brought to London from Malawi, has prompted a thaw in the warring couple’s relationship.

Guy, 40, was invited to meet Mercy when she arrived in Britain last weekend and I can reveal that he spent Friday night bonding with Madonna and her daughter.

He was also at the London Kabbalah centre yesterday as Madonna left with Mercy clinging to her back and sporting the red bracelet worn by followers of the Jewish-based faith.

Friends say he has ‘fallen head over heels’ for the little girl, whom he has nicknamed Koala. ‘Guy was one of the first to meet Mercy,’ said a source. ‘He met her at Madonna’s house and bonded with her immediately. He has nicknamed her Koala, as she has this habit of clinging to people and not wanting to let go.’

Guy has met Mercy only once before, when she was still in the orphanage in Malawi. At the time, the couple’s marriage was in crisis and Guy did not want to go ahead with the adoption. But following their divorce, he has publicly supported his wife’s decision to adopt, and friends say the couple now enjoy a civilised relationship. The source says Guy even met Madonna’s new boyfriend Jesus Luz during the visit last week.

Madonna, 50, now wants Guy to be a part of the family once again, and friends say she has even invited him to spend time at her home in London over the summer to bond with Mercy while she embarks on a European tour.

‘Guy is at Ashcombe, his house in Wiltshire, with his sons David and Rocco, but Madonna has told him he is welcome at the house in London,’ the source added.

‘Madonna’s 12-year-old daughter Lourdes really misses Guy. She adores him and has been instrumental in encouraging her mother and Guy to get along. She is old enough to read the papers, and she hated the fact that they were having a go at each other in the Press. She told them to stop it. Since then Madonna has been making a real effort.’

‘She is desperate for this adoption to be seen as a success, because she has set her heart on adopting more children.’

[From The Mail on Sunday, Katie Nichols]

For me, Guy has always come across as a really great dad, and I think it’s really sweet and really gracious of him to still hang out with Madonna for the sake of the kids. He even went out of his way to defend Madge and support her publicly and privately when Mercy’s adoption fell through the first time. This story even made me a little emotional, especially the part about Lola missing Guy. I think Guy and Lola must have been very close, and they probably really miss each other. Do you think there’s a chance Guy might go back for seconds at the Madge Vadge Motel? Remember, it’s like the Hotel California – “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.”

No pictures of Guy with Mercy yet, but here he is with son David after a helicopter ride with lady friend Bosnian Dijana Jenkins in London on Saturday. Images thanks to BauerGriffinOnline.

this is good, were it true. I was very afraid Madge would cut him out of Lordes life just for spite.

I’m relieved. I love my stepdad, and I imagine that Lourdes loved hers, too. I actually worried about her in the divorce; it’s obvious that David and Rocco are still Guy’s sons and it would hurt so bad to be rejected from the relationship your brothers have just because things didn’t work out with your mum.

  3. Shelly Shellz says:

I feel bad for Lourdes having the media constantly call her “Lola” poor girl

  4. Wow says:

It seems they are getting on better after their divorce than the later stages of their marriage and this is good.

  5. Lori says:

Maybe, eventually they will pull a Kurt and Goldie. Sometimes that works. This is almost a heart warming story lol.

  6. vicsmith says:

Seems like such a sweet man. Good for him. World needs more dads/stepdads like this. Madonna and her children are very fortunate.

  7. Lauren says:

Madonna will never have a man like Mr. Ritchie again-she is such a fool. It seems like Guy always tries to do what is best for the children; that shows what a good heart he has. Being a good dad makes him even more sexy/yummy!

  8. sarahamster says:

hmm steph parents are often the worst, my stephdad abused me and i nicknamed the stephmom the stephmonster, i do admire guy, what he does is rare, very rare, i can see why M married him

  9. Diana says:

    Nice … kids first.

  10. Michelle says:

Oh please, the drunkard hardly sees his kids and he’s a great father? Madonna is always with her kids and she’s a bad mum? The Daily Mail is so clearly pro-Brit and anti-‘Yank’ it’s hilarious how anyone actually believes any of their contradictory stories.

  11. Rose says:

I actually think neither he or she are bad parents- but of course that does not gossip make.

  12. boo says:

I’m not surprised Guy and Madona smoothed things over. Good for them.

And, thank heavens Mercy and David were allowed to be adopted. You really can’t imagine how harsh life is in Africa unless you have lived there. I lived there and it is so harsh.

  13. Aspie says:

Um, what kind of nickname is “Koala” anyway for a little girl? Why is he essentially calling the little girl a bear?

    I’m just saying, he couldn’t come with a name that’s a little less….um, “bear-like”?

  14. A says:

    Koalas aren’t bears, they’re marsupials. 🙂

  15. barneslr says:

“I feel bad for Lourdes having the media constantly call her “Lola” poor girl”

That’s the nickname her family gave her, pretty much since birth. It’s not the media’s fault; they didn’t give her the nickname. Her mother did.

I think “Koala” for a nickname is lovely. But then again, well: A former boyfriend of mine used to call me “plague” and “Apocalyptic rider” and those were the most tender, affectionate nicknames I ever had. I can’t repeat the story behind this, that would take too long, but let me assure you, me calling by those nicknames was nothing but loving and caring and deeply appreciating me.
So, back to the point: “Koala” is not at all bad, I think 🙂

  17. humph! says:

I think it’s interesting that guy ritchie calls her koala because he said she doesn’t want to let go of people. Hmmmm. I wonder why she is so clingy? Maybe taken out of the orphanage and the environment she knows and thrust into a completely different world? Sounds like I would be clingy too if I were her…

  18. red pink deer says:

    Um, >humph!:

are you saying she was better off in an orphanage? cuz i’m thinking the point of an orphanage is to get the kids into loving familys. And unless you actually have hung out with Madonna, you don’t know what kind of parent she is.

  19. Dirty Martini says:

Dear Plague, uh I mean Sauvage,

I know just exactly what you mean. It hurt my mom more than it did me when she beat me too. I know it was for my own good. I’m so much better for her outward demonstrations of her love.

Geeze my nickname is Boobely-Bear – should I correct that to “large-breasted humanoid”?
