Pusha T confirms that his beef with Drake is done: ‘To my knowledge, it’s all over’

Day Three of Wireless Festival including Pusha T, Tyga, Yuna and Tory Lanez

It was the end of May when all of the Pusha T and Drake stuff went down. Drake fell into Pusha’s trap – or something – and Drake released “Duppy Freestyle” as a reaction to Pusha’s “Infrared.” That was when Pusha released the diss track “Story of Adidon,” which pretty much destroyed Drake’s public image in several different ways. Pusha told the world that Drake had a son (Adidon) and that Drake barely acknowledged the boy and… well, it was all shady and brutal in about a million different ways. In the time that’s passed, people were waiting for Drake to respond to Pusha with another diss track. It didn’t happen. Instead, Drake got a little bit sanctimonious about the “circus” and then he started pushing all of these stories to TMZ about how of course he spends time with his son, who might not even be his because “sources” claim Drake still hasn’t taken a paternity test. It was weak, to say the least.

Then last week, J. Prince spoke to Vulture. J. Prince is the CEO of Rap-a-Lot Records and a close friend/mentor to Drake. J. Prince claimed that he told Drake to stand down in the beef with Pusha, because there would be too much collateral damage. J. Prince claimed that Drake did have a response to Pusha – a response that came from offering $100K for information about Pusha’s personal life – but that J. Prince and other people convinced Drake to not release it. Here’s part of what J. Prince said:

“After speaking with Kanye, I spoke with the brother, and he didn’t want this. I saw this going to a place that I feel would have ended his career if Drake would’ve put out this song that he had on him… And definitely would’ve hurt families and we’re not in it for that. That’s not Drake’s character to tear a man down to that extent. The ingredients was overwhelming. I know for a fact that it would have been bad for Kanye and my man,” he said of the track. “It just wouldn’t be good. It’s beyond music at that point. It’s going to affect the livelihood. It’s going to interfere with his whole lifestyle from that moment.”

[From Vulture]

Kanye West said that he wasn’t interested in the beef either, so what I come away with is this: one, this was always about Pusha and Drake and their long-simmering beef; two, that Drake and his people want you to know that they had dirty sh-t on Pusha and it’s only because Drake is so magnanimous and “adult” that he is canceling the beef; three, that Pusha really scared the bejesus out of Drake, so much so that that rap godfathers and rap elders were, like, getting involved and having meetings about this sh-t.

Anyway, Pusha has a new interview in Vanity Fair where he says the beef is over now too. This is a Beef Truce now officially.

Pusha T has called time on his beef with Drake saying, as far he is concerned, “it’s all over.” The DAYTONA rapper spoke to Vanity Fair in an interview published on June 7. When asked if he planned to continue with his “surgical summer,” Pusha said: “These conversations have been had and, to my knowledge, it’s all over. It’s all over with.”

Shortly after Pusha T dropped “The Story Of Adidon, both Kanye West and Drake-affiliate J Prince suggested the war of words had come to an end. Speaking about what he has taken from the high-profile clash, Pusha said: “I don’t know what was lost or what was gained,” before adding that he is “ready to be back to the music for real. Just feeding my base, that’s it. That’s the most important thing to me at all times.”

[From The Fader]

And so ends the beef. It was entertaining for a week before everything fizzled out. What did we really learn? We learned that Pusha is good at setting traps. We learned that Drake underestimates his contemporaries. We learned that men are just as petty as women, if not moreso. We learned that Drake has a son and he was going to use his son to sell shoes. I think we also learned that Pusha ended up winning, right?

  1. Alissa says:

oh, Pusha definitely won. Drake looked like a whiny little baby. and I don’t think anyone believes that he has this career ending track he’s just being kind enough not to release.

    • Babs says:

Yeah, of course it’s over, there’s nothing Drake can do after The story of Adidon. Well, that was hilarious, thanks for this boys I needed it.

  2. Yawn says:

If drake had a track, it would be leaked some how some way… but it doesn’t exist because no one would be willing to write it for him!

    • Una says:

LOL! It is funny he is still banging on about Kanye West rather than Pusha T. Kanye West does not diss and Drake knows that.

      • WendyNerd says:

Kanye doesn’t diss? No, he only disses WOMEN. See: Amber Rose.

      • Una says:

Right. He doesn’t diss rappers let’s say. Maybe he deep down knows he is a shit lyricist so doesn’t bother.

      • Elva says:

Kanye has dissed Jay, Wiz, and most recently basically told Pusha and Drake to keep his name out their mouths on “‘ye”.

  3. Beth says:

He just had to keep it going long enough to get people interested. I’d never heard of Pusha T before this

  4. Jenba says:

I must ashamedly admit I had never heard of Pusha T until this whole Drake rap battle (more like annihilation lol). I’m definitely a fan now though!

  5. LNC_305 says:

Nope, what this says is we need to know about J Prince as he’s the one with the power.

    • Jennet says:

He has a big influence in the rap world. Drake gets a lot of collaboration from him on verses and other stuff.

  6. Veronica S. says:

Pusha came at him in a way he couldn’t come back at without indicting himself further is the problem. Responding to it meant acknowledging it, true or otherwise, and the blows he struck were right at the heart of his brand.

  7. Una says:

Right… Even Kanye West cannot end his career let alone Drake.

  8. Jay says:

I believe the kid is named Adonis, not Adidon. Adidon is the name of Drake’s collab with Adidas, which he was supposedly going to use to “reveal” his child.

  9. Jay says:

Also, J. Prince is full of crap. I can’t believe he thinks anyone believes him. Black Twitter was having a DAY ripping on him like he’s actually speaking the truth. Whatever.

  10. Barry Iris says:

Pusha T can now crawl back to the hole he came out of.

    • Edwin says:

Wow Barry that lyrical burial must been tough for your sensitive skin. Don’t worry Drake will be ok, just exposed.

  11. me says:

Yeah Kanye wants the beef to be over now that he and Pusha benefited from it. It got them A LOT of press. If Drake truly had some good juice on Kanye, he would have released it by now.

    • Barry Iris says:

Kanye ‘slavery was a choice’ West. What could Drake have that would top that level of stupidity.

      • me says:

Supposedly Drake said he didn’t want to “destroy families”. I’m thinking perhaps some cheating allegations?

  12. terra says:

I think they both lost. We learned that Drake was willing to use a child to sell shoes and we learned that Pusha T was willing to use a child to sell records.

    • Barry Iris says:

I can’t blame Drake for trying to make money off of his son. Kids are expensive.

Pusha T will continue to name drop Drake.

  13. Moxie Remon says:

Nah, Drake’s sneaky. He’ll come up with a way to get on top when we least expect it.

  14. Yes Doubtful says:

Well Pusha’s album came out, so of course it’s over now. He got the publicity he wanted.
