Lauren Conrad hopes the athleisure trend never dies: ‘I am all for comfort’

A post shared by Lauren Conrad (@laurenconrad) on

I’ve been a stay-at-home blogger for a decade. My personal style is what you would expect: sweatpants, stretchy jeans, t-shirts, flip-flops or wool clogs. My style is currently IN style as athleisure has taken the world by storm. Now everybody dresses like a blogger. Everybody’s looking for the perfect pair of day-to-night sweatpants! Everybody’s looking for the perfect go-anywhere slouchy blouse. Well, Lauren Conrad is here for all of us. LC has wildly successful clothing and accessories lines, and she’s just about to launch a new denim collection. Which is why she sat down with People Magazine to talk about how she hopes the athleisure trend never dies.

Her daily uniform: “I work from home. I spend a lot of time there. You want to be put together, but you [also] want to be comfortable.” With comfort in mind, the star looked back at the signature jeans she’s designed over the past five years exclusively for Kohl’s and upgraded the fabric with Lycra for an overall better fit. The updated denim just relaunched in stores and online. Plus coming this fall, Conrad will be introducing a new line that fits her lifestyle with the launch of her cozy LC Lauren Conrad Weekend Collection at Kohl’s, which includes everything from ultra-soft joggers and knit sweaters to relaxed pants and comfy pullovers.

A lounge-inspired line: “I love the idea of doing sort of a lounge-inspired line where you could wear the separates in an everyday outfit or you could wear it head-to-toe for a more relaxed look and feel comfortable, but still look put together… So when I say ‘dress up,” I mean like running errands, going to the airport and making [pieces] appropriate for outside the house. So to dress up joggers, I woulds style them with just a basic tee, a little trench and a very simple tennis shoe.”

She hopes the athleisure trend is here to stay: “I am all for comfort. I think that if you are putting thought into styling it then that is great. I think it is definitely having a moment. I don’t know if it is always going to be this big.”

Jeans with any kind of stretch are a must. I’ve mentioned before that I found a great pair of jeans with just enough stretch and a straight leg – they’re from LL Bean and they’re awesome (and I have like five pairs). The idea of “dress up joggers” is funny to me, but seriously, that’s where we are. Very few people really and truly “dress up” for their dailywear at this point. I mean, I’m sure people on Wall Street all wear suits, but even lawyers have started dressing down a bit. So have doctors and other professional office-worker-types. And just like LC, I hope the athleisure trend never dies.

excited to see it! I think Khol’s overprices their clothing so I wish she would do something like this independently or through another retailer.

They do but they have steep discounts so I never buy full price. I tried on a pair of LC’s jeans years ago and they were a fantastic fit. I’m excited for this. Unfortunately, I have one of those jobs where the expectation is to dress up. Also, on the weekends I’m generally in capris or wool pants during the colder months, so I don’t have an opportunity to include altheleisure in my wardrobe. Sigh.

I have had really bad luck finding a pair of leggings or “athleisure” that are comfortable, everything tight just fits me in weird ways. Maybe it’s the material. I prefer old school sweatpants but those aren’t trendy.
