Cardi B won’t run for office, but might speak at an Iowa Democratic Party event

Cardi B’s has extended her brand to “real talk about politics” in recent months. It didn’t start with Cardi’s video about the shutdown, but that was the moment that got so much attention, especially when she doubled-down on Tunki Lammer and told her she was “dog walk” her. Cardi has continued to keep it real about Donald Bigly’s racism and the rednecks who love him and more. Congressmen and senators are enthralled with her. Talk show hosts want her for all kinds of political stunts. And now there are questions for Cardi about whether she would ever run for public office. She says no, she won’t, but she definitely sounds eager to continue to talk about politics.

Cardi B frequently makes her political views known on her ever-popular social media pages, but the rap superstar wasted no time putting speculation to rest about a potential future in public office. The “I Like It” rapper, whose real name is Belcalis Almánzar, did not beat around the bush, bluntly saying: “No, no, no,” when “Extra” host AJ Calloway asked if Cardi 2020 was a possibility.

Despite this, the rapper isn’t ruling out accepting an invitation from the Polk County Democrats, a left-wing political group in Iowa, to speak at a “reception of her choice” when she visits the state in May.

“That would really scare me, but I wouldn’t mind. I would talk just how I talk,” Cardi said, adding that she wouldn’t care “if a curse word gonna come out.” Should she decide to speak to the Iowa Democrats, Cardi B said her speech would be relatable to all who listened: “People look at things that entertain them, so if I could talk about what’s going on in America with a little bit of entertainment, why not?”

She went on to explain why she’d want to take that approach, saying: “Some people don’t really wanna watch the news too because they don’t really understand what’s going on…Do you know that America’s reading level is on a 4th-grade level? I’ve been seeing a lot of politicians, they use these big fancy words. A lot of people don’t understand what [they’re] saying, so I would break it down.”

I think “speaking to an Iowa Democratic Party group” would be great for her and great for Iowa Dems. I’m not saying that sarcastically – I think we should embrace Political Commentator Cardi B. People always trash her on respectability politics and for the “street” way she talks and hustles, but she’s smart and funny and she actually gives a damn. My not-so-secret desire is to see a sit-down interview between Cardi and Chris Hayes. I really think that would be beautiful and hilarious.

Iowa Dems tend to be very progressive. So having her or someone like her speak to a group of them would not be out of the ordinary. Iowa Dems gave Obama his first victory in the run-up to the nomination.

    Cardi is amazing. That’s all.

The more she speaks….the more I am digging it.

Hell yes! Whatever candidate Cardi endorses come primary time and through to the election should embrace her support. I have a feeling certain people would want to distance themselves from her brand of politics because it is very uncouth, but look what that did for Trump! I’m not saying Cardi is anything like Trump but that so-called honesty loon Trumpers love about Trump shouldn’t be just for him. Cardi is awesome, she says it like it is, and I hope she is welcomed by the left.

Say what you will about Cardi B, but she is NOT stupid and she understands how to break down complex topics into language most anybody (except possibly the MAGA crowd) can understand. I admire her willingness to voice controversial opinions and her encouraging her fans to educate themselves and get involved.

And I love how Cardi B has described her high school history teacher’s influence on her. I love it even more that this same teacher told her critics to STFU and leave Cardi B alone.

I hope she does it! She might be extremely effective in getting people to relate to issues.

Plus, To see all of Fox News just start foaming at the mouth and freak out and clutch their pearls and declare the end of all that is good and holy would be amazing! It would be 2 days of freak-out–at least!

Iowa-raised Dem here. She would be a perfect voice! She really should consider it. I love Cardi’s willingness to be open and political.

I’m surprised you didn’t cover her harper’s bazaar shoot. It’s pretty great.
