Diane Kruger shows off her abs: ‘I didn’t think it was possible after having a baby’

Diane Kruger posted this sweaty gym selfie over the weekend. She’s been training with Hannah Bower – someone who specializes in pre and post-natal fitness – for a few months. Diane gave birth to Baby Girl Kruger-Reedus at some point last fall, although we don’t know the exact date. I think it was probably late October, which would make Diane less than five months postpartum. And her abs are already back. She posted the IG with this message:

Am I showing off ? F–k yeah. ‘cause it’s been hard work to get my abs back. I didn’t think it was possible after having a baby. And certainly not at my age. I want to thank @hannahbower2 for sharing her journey and helping me get motivated. I don’t have a trainer, but I’ve been committed to get my body back. For myself first….but also for my 👻 The female body is AMAZING 😉

[From Instagram]

She says she doesn’t have a trainer, but she thanks Hannah Bower, who is a trainer. Semantics, I guess. Anyway, what are the thoughts on this kind of postpartum brag? I like that she’s not dressing it up as anything other than what is it, which is that she’s proud of her bounceback and she’s worked hard for it. I also just think that regular women shouldn’t look to celebrity women for body-inspo when it comes to this kind of thing. Diane obviously has to look a certain way for her job, and she has the time and resources to really focus on “getting her abs back.” As for getting her body back for “myself first but also for my [ghost emoji]…” is that a reference to Norman Reedus? Huh. Anyway, I still find Diane shady. I’m shocked that she didn’t find some way to diss Joshua Jackson in this Instagram post.

Here are some photos of Diane at the Cesar Awards on February 22nd. Her body had already snapped back a month ago, basically.

The ghost emoji likely stands for boo. She’s calling Reedus her boo. Very strange endearment for that greeseball.

  2. Missy says:

I follow Hannah Bower on ig, she specializes in postpartum recovery, specifically core recovery, stabilization, and strength after baby. I assume Diane incorporates her exercises and/or uses her peri/postpartum core guide (highly recommend it for anyone looking to protect and strengthen their core, not just mamas!!)

  3. Lady Keller says:

Good for her. I’d look that way too if I could afford a nanny, personal trainer, and professional meal prep. Its true that its part of her job so she is probably more motivated than the rest of us.

Side note- I did actually look like that after my first. with my second the only time I’ve seen abs in the last year and a half is when i had the stomach flu and was severely dehydrated.

    • LivePlantsCleanAir says:

AND she can write most of the expenses off as business expenses….looking like this is part of my business, thus, the nanny, personal trainer, professional meal prepper are all tax deductible…..sigh……

    • Wilady says:

There are lots of celebs who don’t bounce back like that too though. It doesn’t matter what kind of team you have if you don’t put in the work. You can lead a horse to water, and all that.

If you don’t have a team, myfitnesspal is free and YouTube has great advice on nutrition science. You can always get a good stroller for long walks with your baby, get a cheap pair of hand weights for a twenty minute session during a nap, squats while the rice cooks, playing airplane while “bench pressing” your babe, step ups on the kitchen chair, playing chase back and forth in the house or yard, and some stretching on the floor while you read to them at night. And always always take the stairs. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And you set a good example too. Also, it’s fun to feel so strong 🙂

I don’t know, i carried twins to almost full term. Hell yeah I was proud of all the work I put in to get to my pre baby size even if it wasn’t my pre baby body.

It took me two years not a few months though. When someone says I look great for having had twins, hell yes I do! Not all circumstances are the same. Not only can I afford a gym with a child care area, I also have a live in mother in law who not only helps with the child care and does 60-70% of the cooking and cleaning. You can’t expect the same from all women with different circumstances, but it doesn’t take away from people’s personal achievements.

    Thats my opinion.

    • paranormalgirl says:

took me almost two years after my twins, too.

    • Mel M says:

Same here. I had two before my twins and my twins did things to my body they never did. My first was 6lbs 7oz and my second was preterm and was 5lbs 10oz so the twins both clocking in at over 6 really messed with everything.

  5. Kaye says:

She looks like Amy Poehler in a couple of those pictures.

  6. Risa says:

I get it. I have abs now for the first time in 5 years since having my son. I have busted my ass. As long as she doesn’t act like her body “just snapped back on its own with breastfeeding” then I don’t care about bragging.

  7. Holly says:

I thought the ghost emoji meant her spirit but idk. She looks amazing; I’d show off (and own up to it) too.

  8. eto says:

Yes, but when will her fashion mojo snapback?

  9. Dani says:

I would be more impressed with her ‘showing off’ and ‘hard work’ if she was an average mom who worked full time and didn’t have unlimited access to child care and health coaches. Sorry, but all these celebrities live in such delusion that anything they do they need to be commended for.

  10. jules says:

ugh, any kind of social media bragging is just gross to me. it’s thirsty and attention seeking and reeks of desperation.

    • ChillyWilly says:

I agree! If you are truly working out for your self and not to impress others, why the need to brag to the world?

      • lana86 says:

She doesn’t say she works out “only for herself and not to impress others”. We live in a society, very few things are done 100% only for ourselves. Representation is present everywhere. Would you dress the same, if you lived on desert island?

  11. lana86 says:

She s so cool <3 And she’s done a great dramatic movie in Germany recently.

  12. Léna says:

Is that a bikini top ? lol

  13. ab says:

she looks great, but she also just looks the same as she always has? nice that she got her body back, but she stayed under the radar when she was pregnant — I think I saw one random pap photo — so it doesn’t seem to me that she “lost it” in the first place. lol.

  14. megs283 says:

eh. My youngest is almost 1. My body has not “bounced back” but I also have not worked out. At all. (And I’ve also had three kids in five years.) I see Diane Kruger as another species, to be honest – that’s how relevant her life is to mine. Happy for her and she should be proud of her hard work – and I’m glad she’s acknowledging that it was hard work.

    • Wow says:

Don’t worry, it took me 2 years to get back to my pre baby size. Just remember a lot of changes in your body happen and its still YOUR body, its just changed because it recently accomplished a new task.

  15. Isa says:

Stating she didn’t think it was possible seems disingenuous considering she works in Hollywood. Of course it’s possible. That is THE norm.

  16. jules says:

Whoa. That dress is a nightmare though.

  17. Nancy says:

She’s talking to Norman! I give her credit. My twins are almost three months and the struggle is real…but I’m a rubber band and snap right back…haha. Don’t know much about her, but relate to her. It has to be the Daryl thing ❤

  18. Veronica S. says:

Anyone can get “abs.” Whether you have the build that allows you a hard body without thickening the waistline is an entirely different issue lol. If you look at the bodies of athletes alone, you’d see plenty of them look powerful but not necessarily model slim.

  19. KitKatKunt says:

    Assuming 👻 means ‘boo’?
She looks great and is clearly feeling herself which is awesome, but yeah, it’s probably not healthy to compare ourselves to her. She may not have a personal trainer but she probably has access to a private gym, a nanny, a personal chef or dietician etc etc. With money and access we could all look like movie stars right? 😂

  20. HeyThere! says:

I like that she isn’t pretending like bending over to change her infants diapers/nappys for her the abs! Ha!

  21. Louisa says:

It’s gross and show- offy, however she’s acknowledging it, so this really doesn’t get my back up the way Hilaria (sp?) baldwin does when she “promotes health” aka shows off.

  22. Valiantly Varnished says:

I agree. She’s shady as hell IMO. I used to like her but now I give her major side eye. And I honestly tbink Norman will be heasing for the hills within the next year. He has never come across as the “stick around” type. I think Diane wanted a baby and he was like *shrug* “okay”. But I don’t think he sees it as a commitment to her. He has a kid with Helene Christensen too and they were together for fairly short period of time.

    • Nancy says:

Helena posts pics of she, Norman and their son pretty routinely. It appears they have kept a close relationship. Their son is twenty, I think. Norman gets no love on this site, but like Luke Perry, rip, his friends have nothing but kind words for him. I’ve never read any negative about him, other than he is with Diane which doesn’t please her former bf’s fans.
      But they’re in love 💕

      • AnotherDirtyMartini says:

I love Norman Reedus 💕 I’ve seen so many interviews with him, and he seems like the real deal. A good person.

    • Canber says:

Helene Christensen was the one who dumped him. Just saying.

      • Nancy says:

They broke up in 2005 after five years together and co-parent their son. But I didn’t realize you knew her and that she dumped him. Worked out pretty well for Diane. So happy together!

      • Canber says:

Why would you realize anything about who I know?

  23. Gigi La Moore says:

I was a 25 year old single mother and I worked full time with no help. 21 years later still pretty much the same size. I made time to do free videos when kiddo was sleeping, add to that genes and just decent eating. No one needs to feel bad or good. It is what it is. Diane has her body and I have mine.

  24. Steff says:

She’s aged very well for a scrawny white woman that used to smoke.

  25. Cojii says:

I think it’s ok to brag a bit after accomplishing something. It’s when you won’t shut up about it or scorn others for not doing the same that it pisses me off. Every woman and every pregnancy is different.

  26. Harryg says:

Some people just have the “no belly”-body type.

    • SM says:

This is why I am kind of jealous. I always was like that. My stomach was the last thing I had on my mind while pregnant. And while I went back to the same weight and have a flat stomach again, I also have terrible stretch marks on it and with limited time and resources after having a baby I never managed to get rid of them. Not even sure it is possible without surgery, so yeah, I understand working hard but then all this bragging is bragging of someone lucky I guess, because hard work doesn’t always get you to the result you would like to achieve.

  27. Susan says:

It bothers me that she says she got her body back for herself but also for her “boo” (which was what she meant with that ghost emoji obviously). It smells like insecurity over her man not finding her attractive enough after she had a baby and her body wasn’t like before. I still think this baby was anything but planned, and judging by the fact they had some sort of fallout around the time she would have find out she was pregnant, I’d bet she got pregnant so the relationship could last. That typical mindset of “a baby will fix this”. She always came across as way more into him than the other way around anyway.

Anyways, I don’t have a problem with the rest of her post, if she wants to brag about how hard she worked, you go girl. I just don’t think normal women should compare themselves to her because she obviously have an easier path to reach that goal than most of us.

  28. Deedee says:

Talking about a baby prob enough of a diss to JJ for her. She’ll be bitter about JJ not sticking around after she cheated 4evah.

But congrats on the abs, I guess.

  29. pinetree13 says:

I hate this “get your body back.” So what….my post-natal body isn’t my body??? I just find all the language used around these types of promos is laced with misogyny.

  30. Blocked Cause I am says:

Damn. I am over these celebrities who don’t cook, clean, take care of child 100 percent of the time, telling us how proud they are they “got their body back”.. Good for you puddin’, out here in the real world, we don’t get hours to dedicate to “getting the body back” but we work just as hard as you do trying to get a healthy, mobile, physically capable body too. Try doing it alone, without daycare help, without thousands to spend on your body you superficial idiot. And bite me.

  31. Busy Bee says:

That is one weird workout outfit

  32. PalGal says:

This woman disgusts me in everything woman- ….

  33. Trace says:

My only question is why is she wearing a bikini top and…pajama pants (?) to the gym.

  34. Naomi says:

With too much time on her hands Diane put on a red bra with pyjama bottoms. Obviously she was desperate to post on Instagram to get attention. I don’t like her. In fact I don’t know anyone who likes her. Diane sounds boring, looks boring, and has no personality. Actually I take it back the red bra was the best idea she has come up with in a long time. Hopefully she won’t make anymore movies and retire already! Women have more important things to read.
