Gwyneth Paltrow thinks she ‘rubbed people the wrong way’ because of ‘sexism’

Gwyneth Paltrow has been absolutely ridiculous in the first weeks of 2020. First there was her gross ass-exposing ruffled Fendi monstrosity at the Golden Globes. Then it was the Goop candle named, I kid you not, This Smells Like My Vagina. The candle sold out (at $75 a pop) and Gwyneth got all of the headlines she wanted. This candle story is like the jade-egg-up-the-vadge story: it will always be associated with Gwyneth and it will always be brought up and joked about. But the joke’s on us, because Gwyneth just keeps “winning.” She got more traffic on Goop, and she gets to assume an air of wounded grievance, because how dare the peasants make fun of her vagina-candle stunt-queenery?

You can sniff Gwyneth Paltrow’s vagina-scented candle — but don’t you dare take her picture! The Goop founder kindly created a $75 candle called “This Smells Like My Vagina” so we can all get a sniff of her special sauce (or we could if the piquant product weren’t sold out). Proving her head is also up her proverbial pudenda, Paltrow made a public presentation at the National Retail Federation at the Javits Center Tuesday and promptly threw out all fotogs so she could wax lyrical to 2,000 people about her privates with privacy.

Gwynnie blamed sexism in the business world. Using an unfortunate turn of phrase, she said, “There are different kinds of controversy. First of all, I am a huge target because I was an actress, a very visible actress, and then I decided to be a founder and entrepreneur, and I think that really rubbed people the wrong way.” What really might have rubbed others the wrong way was that infamous jade egg incident when Goop was fined $145,000 for making “unsubstantiated” claims the product could fix hormone levels and bladder control.

Describing such malodorous moments as “headwinds,” she continued, “I think people have mixed reactions to me and to all women stepping outside the box that they are very comfortable with us being in and doing something else. I have been in the public eye for a long time, and I understood that was going to be something inherent in this journey. Sometimes I think of the headwinds I’ve had to face growing this business, and then I think of some male counterparts who started businesses at the same time, and it’s pretty incredible what we’ve come up against.”

Paltrow explained how she endured controversy when they made early mistakes, but there’s also “good controversy” — like her vagina-scented candle — that attracts new customers. “If you are in the news and it’s driving traffic to your site, it’s not a bad thing.”

You know how I always joke about Gwyneth thinking she invents sh-t that’s been around forever? Like, she thinks she invented yoga, juice cleanses, extreme dieting, jade eggs, vagina candles, and cooking. Well, now it seems like Gwyneth thinks she invented stunt-queening? Like, it’s very obvious what she did: pull some manufactured-controversy (like naming a candle that) and then bitch and whine about SEXISM. Goop, we see your ass. Literally.

Sure, Goopy, if that makes you feel better.

  2. It has nothing to do with sexism. It’s because she is an entitled, snobby, out-of-touch-with-reality bitch.

  3. ccsays says:

    *and being just awful

  4. Digital Unicorn says:

Nah – its just cause you’re a clueless entitled insufferable snotty b!tch.

  5. AnnaKist says:

No, you bloody twit. You rub people up the wrong way because you’re a con artist, a rewrites of history, a narcissist, a liar with a superiority complex and a massive twat. Just shut up and lie down.

    • Mac says:

      + 1,000

    • Me Again says:

      Couldn’t have said it better!

    • Christina says:

Everything you said, Annakist, but Paltrow spins out opinions of her methods as jealousy and sexism.

Narcissistic people aren’t interested in processing the truth about why people dislike them, and plenty of people buy her vagina candles, so she doesn’t have to.

      • AnnaKist says:

You’re right, Christina. I’m convinced those candles-for-fools have a vanilla scent, cuz, you know, it’s her minge we’re talking about here. And her minge is not like other minges.

  6. For a second act how about a candle scented “this smells like my privilege”

  7. Originaltessa says:

Honestly, I feel like she alienates women more than men. I personally cannot stand her or anything she stands for. She personifies the judgey mom that drinks coffee and does yoga all day between spa appointments, then rams you down in the school pick up line with her Range Rover. It’s a lifestyle I can’t afford, but also don’t want, and it seems like she’s trying to convince me that I do… Anyway, rant over. Can’t stand her.

    • Allergy says:

      Perfectly said.

    • LAB says:

      This x1000!

    • K says:

I can’t think of anyone I know who claims to like her, male or female. I agree, she especially alienates other women with her smugness and superiority, her quackery about female health that most of us see right through. She smirks and says that any publicity is good publicity, but she’s just flexing to cover the fact that she’s turned herself into a joke. A joke, not because you’re a woman, Goop, but because you’re simply full of it and we see that. Like a certain President who is completely out of touch with reality, and desperately wants to keep it that way because he doesn’t think societal rules should have to apply to him. He’s become infinitely more dangerous than her, but they are both runaway trains fueled by narcissism.

  8. Murphy says:

Personally she’s always rubbed me the wrong way because of nepotism not sexism.

    • smcollins says:

Shhhhh…don’t you know she’s a self-made woman, and it has nothing to do with her late father being a producer, or her mother being a celebrated stage & screen actress, or her godfather being Steven Spielberg. She did it ALL ON HER OWN, ok? 😏

    • DragonWise says:

She is a *classic* nepotism baby! She would be the bitchiest perfume girl at Ulta if she hadn’t had her parents to pave her way. Doesn’t matter what we think, though, because her narcissism is indestructible.

  9. Carol says:

I find it incredible /hilarious how absolutely clueless she is about her narcissism. I’ll give her credit though for building her company to where it is now. Just because you are a celebrity or rich doesn’t mean you’ll be a successful entrepreneur. So kudos to her. Now she just needs to cut down her inflated ego and stop saying stupid stuff.

  10. Bubbs says:

Negative. She rubbed me the wrong way when she said women with “an office job” had it easier than her. I work from 8 to 630, pay for childcare, no help at home from nannies, take a bus to work, etc etc. Also my pay is a fraction of what she makes. So I’m not sure how I have it easier?

    • Lena says:

I don’t know but I think she said it was easier to work with kids if you had an office job over working as an actor with kids. Hit me but I kinda agree with her there. Acting jobs are on location away from home for three months or more so you have to pull your kids out of school and have someone tutor them for you or keep them at home with a full time nanny and only see them When you fly in during your days off. Or if you are working in the same city as you live days on set are 14-16 hours on average which is hard with little kids. It’s really not a kid friendly job, other than the time off they get when they are unemployed.

      • Granger says:

You’re right to a point — I think when it comes to bit-part, no-name actors. But a celeb of Gwyneth Paltrow’s “stature” would have an iron-clad contract that ensures that when she’s on location, she is flown home every weekend to be with her kids. She is paid anywhere from $2.5 to $9 million, depending on the movie — and only really needs to make one film a year, which is 6 to *maybe* 12 weeks of filming. The other 40 weeks of the year she can live essentially as a stay-at-home mom, making vagina-scented candles.

Compare that to nurses who work 12-hour shifts and only see their kids for a couple of hours every night. Some business people travel nearly every week for work and only see their kids on the weekends. They don’t make a fraction of Paltrow’s bank, AND their schedules never change. They work like that all. the. time, 48-50 weeks a year.

      • Ivy Rose says:

I’d read Barbara Ehrenreich’s book “Nickeled and Dimed” and try again. There is no valid argument for Goop’s position that she has it harder than the OP saying she rides a bus to & from a ten hour work day, travels to get her kids from day care & then does all the stuff mothers have to do at home without any support staff. Goop is at an absurd level of privilege – and the fact that she has no idea how privileged she is makes it even more nauseating.

  11. grabbyhands says:

Quit using sexism as a jump off to explain away why people can’t fucking stand you and your obnoxious, tone deaf and frankly, dangerous white woman privilege dilettante advice.

Not only is it wrong, it is a massive disservice to women everywhere who AREN’T actually being heard because they don’t have a platform provided to them to do so.

    • lucy2 says:

      ALL.OF.THIS.

Crying sexism here is disgusting, though not surprising. Nothing is ever HER fault. If people are upset at her cons, it MUST be because she’s a woman, not a con artist.

  12. Allergy says:

No, it’s because she’s one of those “why didn’t you just upgrade??” people.

  13. Allergy says:

Must she always stand so limp?

  14. MC2 says:

I think she’s insufferable and she’s also dealt with a lot of sexism as the head of a successful company. Both can be true…

    • Call_me_al says:

I agree. (White cis-het) male celebrities who venture into business are rarely given the type of derision and disbelief that female celebrities (especially women of color and all LGBTQ) are given regarding their credibility and their “right to be there”.
Also, she has been insufferable since she gave birth to Apple. Not because of sexism, because she’s a judgy rich Mom.
She really was good In The Politician, though. 🙈

  15. Mrs. Peel says:

I’m actually surprised her vadge candle sold out – I mean, who is buying into this, and more importantly, who wants the smell of vadge permeating their home?

    • Deedee says:

You should listen to Martha Stewart on Andy Cohen the other night when raised this question. Her answer was that it was sold out because a bunch of horney men bought it. Goop was owned.

  16. Annaloo says:

Uh, NO Gwyneth…and sit down. Wrong “ism”

    Try NEPOTISM

I wish Quackery Queen rhymed with “ism”, but it doesn’t..

  17. Nanea says:

Gwyneth is an insufferable esoteric quack with an over-inflated ego and a huge dose of entitlement.

The more people call her out on that, the better.

It’s too bad that Netflix gives her a platform to spread her ideas that sadly help endager public health.

  18. Jane says:

Yeah sure, we wouldn’t tease a man if he came out with a body spray called “ Sweaty ball sac”. Cuz all hail men!
And we dont tease other successful female former-actress entrepreneurs like Angelina or Jessica A because … Um … because Gwyneth is a self-obsessed straw-haired idiot.

  19. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

She drips with privilege and ignorance. And she personifies everything I abhor…there’s nothing inside, a grifter who sells words, phrases and products of other grifters. Grifter meetings and grifter conferences with gift bags for attendees to go forth and Gwyngrift to the peasant masses.

  20. boobra says:

no dear, it’s actually your elitist, entitled and downright obnoxious narcissistic attitude that does it

  21. Texas says:

I have always had a soft spot for her because I loved Shakespeare In Love. But GOOP has always been a turn off. But I have to tell you that I want to know what that candle smells like. Is it real vag?? I mean what the hell.

  22. Silas says:

    From Grace Kelly to troll.

    • Annaloo says:

Oh no, my friend, do not besmirch Grace Kelly. Gwyneth never touched that level. She thinks she had, but Grace is legend, Gwyneth is trying to stay relevant

  23. Jessica says:

She looks like sh*t in that dress. literally and figuratively.

That’s all I’ve got. I can’t give this woman the satisfaction of having read about her vag. b it’s like Madonna all over again.

  24. Victoria says:

    Her poor mother!

I saw a picture on Twitter that someone photoshopped so that when you lit the candles they melted red. LMAO.

  25. phlyfiremama says:

    More like “bitchism”. LOL

  26. Marianne says:

Its not because she decided to become an female entrepreneur…its because she sells crap like vagina candles.

  27. Sidewithkids says:

Why on earth would anyone buy anything she’s peddling? This is how you know things are messed up in the world when people endorse her and this type of entitlement. Yet it exists and thrives. White privilege at its finest esp when they try to act like they know anything about injustice or strive and hide behind it for their messed up behavior. She should be called out on this yet her counterparts say nothing and just indulge her b/c they’re apart of the problem too. It’s just ridiculous.

  28. And yet…..I love Blythe Danner. But I have to accept the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, so I guess I should say, I love Blythe Danner, the actress because God knows Gwenyth Paltrow did not raise herself to be this self-embiggened, she had two very present parents.

    • Sass says:

@JA, mmm I disagree with you. Narcissists come from all kinds of family backgrounds. My own mother had two present parents as you put it and was an only child because she was very physically sick growing up. But my grandparents aren’t the type to overindulge children and they even took in other relatives’ kids when they couldn’t keep them up to a year at a time. My mom was spoiled but that was because they thought she would die before reaching adulthood. (She’s 57 now.) My grandmother was the opposite of a narcissist – always giving to others of her time and resources and never expecting praise for it.

Meanwhile my mother in law was the oldest of three and emotionally abused by her mother and she grew up to be a raging malignant narcissist.

My point is it has nothing to do with how you are raised.

Let’s not place blame on Blythe for the way gwyneth turned out. That’s like blaming moms of grown men who can’t take no for an answer.

Btw I grew up in Charleston! I love seeing you on here.

  29. CK says:

Maybe a mix of both. I think that she does a lot of things to rubbed people the wrong way, but I also think she has less leeway than some men and people are less willing to forgive/forget. There’s a bit of a cataloguing of all of her terrible incidents that compounds in a way that isn’t always the case with annoying men.

  30. Pixie says:

We don’t agree on much, but she is undoubtedly right about this. The vitriol that is directed at her is pretty disproportionate to any actual harm she has done. And it’s certainly disproportionate to all the men in Hollywood who have behaved 10x more abominably. I mean, Sean Penn and Michael Fassbender get less vitriol and they’re literal women beaters. She is a woman in the public eye so there was always going to be a huge amount of sexism directed her way, and I don’t really see how that can be denied. Now, she is ALSO annoying and elitist which has garnered it’s own fair share of criticism but a lot of things can be true at the same time.

  31. SM says:

Instead of drama she should find herself a new stylist, a new make up and hair person, she looks awful. Not a good look for such royalty looking down on the rest of us, peasants.

  32. Jaded says:

Well then Gwyneth, you created a vagina-scented candle which is, in and of itself, sexist. Why don’t you come out with a candle called “Cheese Dick”? That way you’d be appealing to the opposite sex because god(dess) knows there’s nothing appealing about your smug, condescending, bony ass. It’s not “sexism” dear, it’s obnoxiousism.

  33. Meg says:

When did her and beyonce and jayz sfop bwing BFFs?

  34. Bread and Circuses says:

If your brand is your vagina, then you are not a very interesting person.

And if the whole world dislikes you, it’s probably you, not them.

  35. Ann says:

I really am tired of reading and hearing about her vagina everything. So in love with herself.
