Oprah claims to have never played hooky from work in her life

Oprah and Gayle Kings’s web series, The OG Chronicles, has been around for about a year. In the short videos, the two often give advice and answer viewer questions. In August, they were quizzed on slang terms like “wig snatched” and “JOMO.” In the latest installment, they played two rounds of “Never Have I Ever,” moderated by Ashley Graham. That video is below. I learned a few things about Oprah and Gayle. They claim to have never sexted, to have never stalked anyone on Instagram and Gayle says she’s never even thought about plastic surgery, but Oprah says she has thought about it. They aren’t asked about injectables. Scandal – both Gayle and Oprah admit they’ve had one night stands! They both had them around 1981 or 1982 though.

Gayle won the first round (and Oprah did a shot of apple cider vinegar shudder). Oprah also claimed that she’d never played hooky from work, and Gayle said that she had, pointing out that it was a “mental health day.” Given Oprah’s work ethic, I could see that, but it’s still impressive. When Ashley said, “Never have I ever interviewed someone I didn’t like,” Gayle was quick to tell Oprah that she needed to put her finger down, and Ashley pounced, asking, “Who?!”, but Oprah seemed unable to think of whom Gayle was referring to.

In the second round, one of the statements that got the biggest laugh was when Ashley said, “Never have I ever lied to my best friend about where I was.” Celebitchy liked this one, too. Oprah said she had not done that. Gayle started laughing, and Oprah said that the story [lie] that Gayle told was “good,” and that she should actually “put two fingers down.” Again, Ashley tried to get more details out of them, but neither would say. I’ve always loved their friendship. They clearly are fiercely protective of and loyal to each other, and have a lot of fun together. Ashley is the perfect foil for the two of them. I wonder whether she’ll have them on her show?

I can see that with Oprah. I admire her greatly but as for me and my family we took what we called well days now and again. A beautiful spring day to go picnic and explore the lake or a Monday off a couple weeks before Christmas to let the kids shop for loved ones. When they’d find something I’d hand over the cash, they had a limit, and I’d stand watch just outside the door. I remember clearly how pleased they were and me too. My middle son would be dying to tell what he’d got me. Well days were such a treat for us all..

I believe her. Plus, when she was starting out she probably was afraid of losing her job status, and when she was more established, she probably loved her work. I am a former teacher and would need to take a few mental health days a year. I think most teachers feel this way.

If Oprah didn’t show up, there’d be no Oprah. She was essential to her show. Now her early days in tv news? Yeah, you miss a day and your replacement takes your job. My local news people are always going to work sick and looking half dead.

What are some good excuses for calling out? Asking for a friend 🤔

  5. Polyanna says:

Oh I totally believe her! Her work is everything to her!

Gayle’s interview had to be R Kelly, right?

I believe this about Oprah. I’ve been in the workforce for 30 years and rarely took a day that wasn’t legit. Maybe one for a hangover when I was in my 20s, lol. I don’t think it’s that uncommon. And I’m not a workaholic like Oprah!

I attended her 2020Vision show here in Dallas 2 weeks ago. Oprah said one time recently, despite sharp pain in her side, she fulfilled a work commitment. She found out afterwards it was pneumonia.

(And I got to meet her backstage afterwards- woman is a national treasure.)

Hiking is essential to my physical and mental well-being. On truly gorgeous days (which was rare in the last city I lived in) I definitely called out a few times to spend the day in the mountains. No regrets whatsoever.

I guess it depends on what playing hooky is. To me it’s lying to your boss to do something fun. I’ve called out a couple of times because I didn’t feel like going to work. I didn’t do anything, just stayed in bed and watched tv. There are just some days you just aren’t feeling it.
