Kylie Jenner has been self-quarantined for 9 days: ‘The coronavirus is a real thing’

Kylie Jenner, Kourtney, Kim and Khloe Kardashian leave Giorgio Baldi after dinner

After the idiocy of people like Vanessa Hudgens and Evangeline Lilly, I think it’s important to remember that *some* celebrities are actually doing a great job of donating to charity, raising awareness about social distancing, talking about the importance of self-isolation, and encouraging people to listen to doctors and scientists. I’m not saying people should get their news from celebrities, but some/many celebrities have been doing their best to reach their fanbases, especially when their fanbases are young people who would otherwise be catching coronavirus on a crowded beach in Florida on spring break. Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande both stepped up earlier this week to encourage their fans to stay home and take this seriously. Then, a few days ago, the Surgeon General of the United States of America went on Good Morning America and he said that he hoped Kylie Jenner would say something too:

America’s top doctor called on an unexpected hero to help save the nation from coronavirus — Kylie Jenner. “What I really think we need to do [is] get our influencers,” Surgeon General Jerome Adams said on “Good Morning America,” naming the 22-year-old Kylie Jenner star as well as infected basketball stars Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell.

“We need to get Kylie Jenner and social media influencers out there, in helping folks understand that look, this is serious, this is absolutely serious. People are dying,” Adams told the ABC show. He said they were needed to get the message across because he knows from his own kids — ages 14 and 15 — that “the more I tell them not to do something, the more they want to do it.”

He said the younger generation were more likely to ignore the quarantine — and are also known to be at risk of both getting sick and spreading COVID-19 to those most vulnerable. “We are seeing new data from Italy that suggests that young people may be at higher risk than what we previously thought. But think about your grandfather, think about your grandmother, think about the fact you’re spreading disease that could ultimately be what kills them.”

Honestly, it didn’t sound as vapid and unreasonable as I was expecting – he has a point with the youths and how they’ll be more likely to do something if someone like Kylie Jenner suggests it. And what was sort of great is that Kylie Jenner heard the Surgeon General’s pleas and she did follow through! Kylie has been posting videos on her Instagram Stories all week about how she’s been self-isolating and how it’s easy for her because she just stayed at home for months during her pregnancy, so she already knows how to amuse herself. She gave the youths lots of tips for what to do while they self-isolate, including PUZZLES, taking self-care baths, watching movies, etc.

Kudos. I hope she keeps posting as this progresses because it’s difficult. Thank goodness weather is getting warmer to a window can be opened

I would take her a little bit more seriously without the silly jewels on her face and whatever is floating around. It’s a good thing she is doing this but sad that younger people won’t listen to the experts but Kylie Jenner.Boy that speaks volumes about the youth and young adults of today.

The Kyle-Jenner’s embody everything that’s wrong with America, but you have to give them credit for being pretty disciplined and listening to advice.

I agree. I read that Kourtney was saying this coronavirus was from God punishing all of us. SMH. No, the Kardashians were the punishment God sent. We are suppose to be self-isolating, some members of this family (kourtney) went hiking. I love how they are still hawking products through this indiscreetly. Kim with her Easter cookies. This family has NO CHILLS. I really dislike when people use God when they feel it is convenient. Doesn’t the bible tell us to not worship false idols? Beeyzus, Yeezus, Hova? Stay safe out there everyone.

I hope this positivity last. I get the impression a lot of people believe this will all be over by April and things will get back to normal, life as usual. I don’t think so.

    • Case says:

Agreed. In my mind I just chose June as the time when things will be all better, but even that isn’t guaranteed. We have no idea how long this will last. Social distancing is manageable for a few weeks, but then even the folks who are fine with being home will start to go a little nuts.

I so appreciate any and all celebrities who are encouraging their fans to stay home as much as possible. And I like Kylie. She has a lot of younger girls who look up to her and probably want to be hanging with their friends right now, so this will definitely help.

    • Leriel says:

Well I don’t believe that coronavirus will puff as April 1st come, but warmer weather and stronger sun are kinda first class enemies for viruses, especially the ones caught by respiratory system. So I hope till May everything will slowly calm and people will get sick less and less.

That’s my hope too. Here in Europe we have started this crazy journey in february, and I am doing a lot of things I would have never dreamt of.
Ex: waking me at 5 am to go running when nobody is around, then When I come home I put all the clothes in the washing machine. Wear gloves to exit my bulding in order not to touch anything, doing my own pizza because I feel crap for the delivery guys/girls…Please stay safe.

      • Tia says:

Except it’s in the warmer countries too – Australia is only just moving out of summer.

      • Polly says:

I don’t know if hot weather is going to make much of a difference to this virus. Temperatures are still in the 30s (over 80F) in Australia and our cases are now increasing rapidly. Places like Singapore, Malaysia etc with high humidity and high temperatures still have the virus, but seem to be better at containing it. I hope they’re wrong but many experts think we’re stuck with it until someone comes up with a vaccine in 12-18 months.

Glad she’s staying in and encouraging others to do the same.
Hope this “self made billionaire” gives back in a big way too.

This is great, thank you for sharing it and good for her. i know there is a lot of talk about how celebrities should keep their opinions to themselves and we should rely on ‘official’ advice but I imagine far more (particularly young) people follow and listen to the likes of Kylie than the World Health Organisation. This is our society and we need to accept that and use it for good.

  6. Lurker says:

Wow, i just watched her story and she came across very well, and I know we were all worried about her growing up to be a train wreck, but she seems to be the most normal one in her family. And good for her for reaching out!

  7. Katrine Troelsen says:

i actually think this was adorable. she looks good and sounds smarter than usually.

  8. AmyB says:

Good for her! We all know she has a huge platform – especially to this younger generation who seemingly is not taking this stuff seriously (see the idiots down in FL that the news captured recently UGH). All the stuff she said is 100% correct (am I really saying this about Kylie Jenner haha)! You can be a carrier for a couple weeks and not even show symptoms and therefore infect other people and not even know it. Stay home. Period.

  9. Jules says:

We are in sad, deplorable times when Kylie Jenner is considered a role model.

    • Christina says:

I don’t know. I admired Wynona Ryder. She ended up with anxiety issues so bad that she shoplifted and now she is supporting Johnny Depp, someone she doesn’t intimately know anymore, against Amber Heard’s credible abuse allegations. That’s not “role model” behavior.

Celebrity is tricky. We don’t really know what people are like if their agents control their image. And Kylie Jenner’s schtick is not for us. The young women of today are more open. I don’t agree with what they all do, but many are more open about who they are as they cake on all of that makeup.

    • Christina says:

Oh, Jules, we don’t get to choose people’s role models for them. It’s clear that my point flew over your head.

Churchill was a role model for plenty of folks. He was also openly racist. MLK is a role model for lots of people, and Fox News personalities love to invoke his name, but he slept around and was hated by the mainstream in his day. People love Mother Tereza, but there are plenty of people who knew her and bore witness to her being an awful person. One person’s role model is someone else’s demon. Lucid enough?

Noticing the Keith Haring on the wall behind her. That’s a good piece of art.
