Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne looks so ’90s emo as ‘The Batman’ films in Liverpool

Robert Pattinson gets back to work on the set of 'The Batman' filming in Liverpool

I’ll admit it, I was intrigued by the first “trailer” for The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson. I enjoyed seeing emo guyliner Bruce Wayne, and I am curious about how they’re going to do the “Batman: Master Detective” thing. But I also feel like this production is cursed! They were filming The Batman in England in February and March, but they had to shut down the production because of the pandemic. Then Rob went into isolation in London, and he apparently didn’t keep up with his fitness for the role whatsoever. Then, days after the production came back, Rob tested positive for the virus. That was several weeks ago. Rob is back, and the production is back.

These photos are from yesterday, where the production has moved to Liverpool to shoot exteriors. Liverpool as Gotham? Sure, why not. I have a question: is Rob wearing a Bruce Wayne wig or does his hair actually look like that now? I feel like it’s a really bold styling choice to make Bruce Wayne look like he has a ‘90s Skater Boi haircut, complete with a terrible dye job. YIKES! The feel of this IS very emo-goth-’90s, right?

Meanwhile, this is apparently Colin Farrell as the Penguin. I… don’t believe it? The photos are 100% labeled “Colin Farrell.” Why is Rob’s styling so bad and yet Colin’s facial prosthetics are so high-quality? Is all of the money going to Colin’s stuff? And sorry, whenever I see a young, handsome actor take on a role where he has to wear a huge amount of prosthetics, I ALWAYS think “wouldn’t it be easier to just cast someone else?” Paul Giamatti is just sitting there, you know? (I love Giamatti as an actor, but dude would have been in the makeup chair for maybe 20 minutes as the Penguin.)

Oh, they are in Liverpool, it’s currently classed as a very high risk area according to the new alert level system.
I hope they take all the necessary precautions to keep themselves safe.

I said it before…Davey Havok all over!

He definitely looks like he’s just had COVID.

  3. Tiff says:

    LMAOOOOOOOO!! His hair!!
Also when I heard Colin Farrell was going to be in this I thought it would be hot Colin (or at least handsome Colin) not prosthetics and fat suit! Give us a hot penguin you cowards!!!

I was always very out of step with the 90’s idea of hot guys. In my personal life I was dating total muscle heads, that’s what I like, I know I am so shallow. I really thought people my age were crazy for thinking these dirty looking emo pencil necks were hot. I just didn’t go with the trends in my youth what can I say. Though I did love my flower doc martens and baby doll dresses. FF and things changed and maybe it was the superhero craze, I honestly have never sat down and worked it out. It would be interesting. Anyway, next thing you know muscles and showers were all the rage, and I was like, yeah, now we’re talkin.

It looks like a funeral scene is being filmed. Robs got some bruising and looks beat but probably for the scene. But why do they always make the woman look ridiculous in super hero movies; isn’t this the anti superhero batman? Everyone’s in sensible suits and she’s got a flying saucer leather headband and lace up high boots. Totally funeral norm.

  6. Sweet says:

Looks like they’re filming a funeral scene and Robert is beaten up with a black eye and bruised knuckles in the set pics, he’s most likely supposed to look kinda bad and not in his full Batman glory, and it will amount to a few minutes in an actual movie and have a very different look and feel than in the pics made by paps and public, so it’s too early to judge, especially with a really cool first trailer made only with 25% shoot…

That hair…getting Javier Bardem No Country for Old Men vibes

I love comic book movies, they’re a vice I always feed. I’m not feeling this one yet. So far it’s on my “will catch on Netflix or Amazon Prime eventually” list.

    The teaser trailer looks good!

  10. Emily says:

I LOVE the Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle look so much. Hopefully all her costumes will be as great as this one!

  11. Hmm says:

He is the ugliest Batman and they will need to use a lot of CGI on his face alone . Yikes

  12. Bella A A says:

All I can say is: WO. Colin Farrell is unrecognizable and Rob looks heinous. Zoe is gorgeous. I love the series Gotham and I might watch this. I hope all of them–especially, the crew are staying safe.

Why not just leave his hair alone?
He has great hair. Why the bowl cut? This makes me think they wanted to skew young Gen Z and younger Milennials, so they took Rob Pattinson and are trying to make him look like a batman sk8rboi, or gamer batman. But Pattinson looked like a grown ass man in the Twilight films, so he certainly isn’t gonna look like an early 20 something now.

Also there’s one poster they fcked up, it’s the head shot of him as batman where he’s got the black grease paint on, looks like he’s just come out of the suit. They screwed with dude’s eyes! I find his piercing eyes the most attractive feature on him (ok, and that jawline), he’s got those lids with the epicanthic fold that look asiatic. Well, somebody must have said, hey, let’s just airbrush that out and give him a round nothing special eye. MIISTAKE. It doesn’t even look like him.

With each Batman film/reboot they’re just going as gritty and dark as possible. So boring. Couldn’t believe how seriously the Christopher Nolan versions took themselves. Just not sold on Batman at all – the stupid billionaire dons a rubber suit to secretly save the world when he already controls Gotham angle, etc. Anyway, Rob Pattinson is probably the actor of his generation so let’s see what he’ll do for the role. He’s utterly brilliant in all his roles and can do just about anything. Yes, he looks quite unappealing here but the man is a fantastic actor. I was too old for Twilight and never saw him as a heartthrob, so not a stan here. He was unbelievable in The Devil All the Time (not my type of film but all the actors in that were excellent).

  15. Dee Kay says:

Is it just me or did Pattinson reach his hotness peak in that Harry Potter movie? I feel like he’s been losing hotness every year since then! Colin Farrell, otoh, has kept his hotness level steady or even rising…so why are they casting him in a part where he has to reduce the hotness to zero? The only actor here at the correct level of hotness for their role is Kravitz, who will clearly slay as Selina Kyle.

    • Jessie says:

      I totally agree

    • Poshspice'shair says:

I think they’re also encouraging that emo/grungy look because of the success of Joker. Looks like the character is being framed as an outsider; that speaks to their target audience, which is probably not a large segment of Celebitchy readers/posters.

      • Poshspice'shair says:

*as a particular type of outsider, that is. Suppose Batman has always been a loner/outsider but usually a traditionally attractive one.

  16. Blerg says:

We just saw Paul Giamatti in Saving Mr. Banks a couple days ago, so it is literally impossible for me to imagine him as a villain right now.

  17. HeyJude says:

Honestly this entire thing just looks awful. From Pattison’s goth look to Colin Farrell in fat cosplay this looks like a box office disaster/cinema laughing stock waiting to happen. It’s going to be the next Cats. I’d put money on that.

    Pale, goth Batman?! Oh my.

  18. shanaynay says:

Ugh! I’m thinking RP looks sickly. Hope he’s okay?

  19. BraveLilToaster says:

Oh wow, the horror. Zoe looks like a Queen among Hot Topic bargain bin peasants.
