I can’t believe this day is here. I have been eating so much and watching so much trash television trying to get through the past few months. I wanted to talk about Kamala Harris’s final campaign rally, in Philadelphia. God how I hope Biden wins Pennsylvania. Of course it was a drive in because the Biden team actually cares about people and isn’t actively trying to kill them and make them suffer. Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden were in Pittsburgh where they were joined by Lady Gaga. John Legend, Chrissy Teigen and Common were in Philadelphia with Kamala Harris. Earlier today Hecate covered John and Chrissy’s touching tattoos in honor of their late son, Jack. During John’s performance Chrissy, their kids Luna, four, and Miles, two and a half, and Chrissy’s mom came on stage. John sang a beautiful song he wrote for Chrissy that’s on his new album, Bigger Love. John also talked about and how Joe Biden is an empathic man who is going to lead our country out of the darkness. Here’s a segment from Metro UK about that and I’ll get into John’s speech after that.

As little Luna sweetly tapped him on the back, John revealed: ‘I want to do this next song that I dedicated to my wife a little while ago. I wrote this song from my new album. ‘I wrote this song as a tribute to our relationship and the fact that love can get us through all kinds of tough times. We know that the whole nation is going through tough times right now and we know Joe Biden personally has experienced so much tragedy. What I think he’s taught us, what I think he’s brought to this job, this idea of being the leader of this nation is the fact that he’s resilient, the fact he has empathy, that he understands what it’s like to feel serious pain, and he’s able to lead this country out of a serious dark time in our history.’

That clip is below and I got choked up when John talking about how Joe Biden knows pain and has empathy. That part starts around minute four. When he started singing “We Will Never Break,” his song for Chrissy, I really did cry. I’ve been crying a lot lately. He’s right we’ve lost SO much and it’s hard to contemplate.

In the full rally video, which is also below, John really went in on Trump in his speech! I loved it. He said, in part:

Some of you know I spent some of my formative years right here at the University of Pennsylvania. We’ve got to get down to business Philly. Tomorrow Pennsylvania will determine not only who becomes the next president but who we are as a country. This has been a difficult year. So many of us have experienced pain and struggle and loss… Just last week we lost another Black man, Walter Wallace, Jr., right here in Philadelphia, to police violence. A man with mental health needs who just like so many other Americans wasn’t able to get the care he needed.

We’ve lost a lot. Philadelphia what we haven’t lost is our ability to decide what happens next. Your vote will decide whether we’re a country that allows this pandemic to continue indefinitely or one with a plan to end it. A country where the president would go to court to kick 20 million people off of their healthcare or one where healthcare is a right for all Americans. A country where the president actively encourages police brutality and cannot bring himself to condemn white supremacists or neo-Nazis or one where we hold our police accountable and begin to root out systemic racism in our society. A country that is small, mean, selfish and divided or a country that is big, generous, kind and decent.

And that’s why I already voted for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris…

He goes in on Trump
Some people see the meanness, the bullying, the selfishness of Donald Trump and they mistake it for strength, a kind of twisted masculinity. Some see his greed and they mistake it for being good at business. Some of your former favorite rappers have been taken in by these lies. I think they even founded a new supergroup it’s called The Sunken Place. But Trump’s platinum plan for Black folks is nothing but fool’s gold because you can’t bank on a word he says. Ask the students at Trump University. Ask all of the contractors he’s stiffed. Ask the people his charity was supposed to help before it was shut down for being a fraud. Ask all the Black and Brown Americans who are dying from this virus and losing their jobs on his watch. The President isn’t strong, he’s a coward. His career in business and in government has been failure, after failure, after failure. We need a President we can trust

That speech was awesome and I like how he took people caping for Trump to task. John and Chrissy have always been good Democrats and Democrats are my people. You are my people and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading us, for commenting, for voting and for standing up for what’s right. All of us here have already voted for Biden. Oya is busy today working the polls in Texas and she’s put in a lot of hours. I pray and have so much hope that this will be over soon and that we’ll start to heal.
