Prince William isn’t down with the kids but ‘never wants to be painted as irrelevant or dull’

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attend the EE British Academy Film Awards ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall.

Here’s Part II of the coverage from the Sunday Times Magazine’s cover story, “The Other Brother,” which is just plain, ugly, bald, obvious royal propaganda organized by Kensington Palace. The fact that they used a photo of William looking like a Hitler Youth though… well, I guess someone doesn’t like the way he’s ageing like an angry, pasty douche. The Times story was all over the place, part of it was about how William feels post-Sussexit, part of it was inane fluff in which William takes credit for work being done by professionals and other governments, and part of it was keen, sugary stuff about his marriage. His 10-year wedding anniversary is coming up, so expect more of these kinds of “marriage was the making of Baldingham” stories. Here are more excerpts (this piece was genuinely infuriating):

The years he pretended to be an air ambulance pilot: A source close to William reveals “there were lots of raised eyebrows in the Palace when he wanted to do that. While the Queen and his father backed him, some senior courtiers questioned whether it was becoming of a future king to be doing a middle-class role, hanging out with ordinary people. They thought he wouldn’t stick it out, he’d find it boring, or was doing it out of stubbornness to put off royal duties. He was pretty bloody-minded about it, and determined that other people’s expectations in the media or the system shouldn’t get in the way of his own values.”

His laziness in the early years of his marriage: “For years, the battles around privacy and paparazzi intrusion were all-consuming. He wanted to know, could we build them a credible plan allowing them a family life while slowly increasing the profile of official life? It took years to get there, but the success of that plan allowed him to be confident and content in his role. He’s not worried about his kids’ privacy any more and he has been able to be the kind of dad he wants to be.

Saint Catherine of Keen: “Marriage maketh the man,” a friend says. “Catherine’s groundedness has been the critical anchor. And where his relationship with the media was once all fury and frustration, he now understands using the power of modern media, so the public feel they’re getting enough access.”

Will & Kate are equals: “They’ve got a solid relationship and she gives him confidence,” one says. “There is no jealousy, no friction, they are happy for each other’s successes.” In private William talks as passionately about Kate’s work as his own campaigns, and takes pride in her growing confidence on the public stage.

Lord Hague sucks up to Willy: “People internationally and nationally respect his credibility and knowledge on these issues,” Hague says. “He’s very persuasive. You only see that behind the scenes. He knows what he wants and he goes out to get it.” William knows some people see his passion for conservation as a posh man’s part-time hobby, but Mayhew says the duke’s “genuine and huge knowledge” undermines that view. “He’ll call and WhatsApp to flag up something that I haven’t even seen in the conservation space. He can be impatient to get things done.” Last year William launched the Earthshot prize, a £50 million Nobel-style environmental award to galvanise solutions to global problems over the next decade. He believes “conservation and the environment … shouldn’t be a luxury, it’s a necessity”, Mayhew says. “That’s the drum he wants to beat. He’s got a megaphone and wants to use it in the most constructive way. He speaks for that next generation and I think they can relate to it.

His 2015 meetings in China on the ivory trade: Unlike his father, who has refused to visit the People’s Republic over its human rights record and treatment of Tibet, William’s view was that despite the UK’s fractious relationship with China, “we’ve got to engage”. Mayhew reveals that while William was visiting Japan before China, he still hadn’t secured a meeting with Xi. “But when the Chinese saw all the high-level meetings he was having in Japan, they changed their minds and Xi made time for him.” Later that year, as Xi began a UK state visit, William appeared on Chinese television condemning the ivory trade. Two years later China banned the trade.

His Cyberbullying taskforce: According to William the meetings at Kensington Palace got “fruity” and the tech giants didn’t come close to the change he wanted. He was furious.

Granny Diana: William has said he is determined that the grandchildren Diana never knew should “know who she was and that she existed”. He “constantly” talks to his children “about Granny Diana” at bedtime, so that they know “there are two grandmothers in their lives”.

He’s not trying to be a cool celebrity: He has the same tight circle of friends from his schooldays, one of whom says that, with William, “it’s all about trust and loyalty”. He plays five-a-side football in his Villa socks when he can, goes to the Chelsea Harbour Club gym he went to as a child with his mother and has a “smart casual” public uniform of chinos, jacket, blue shirt and no tie. “William’s not trying to be down with the kids,” a friend says. “He never wants to be painted as irrelevant or dull, though he’s allergic to being compared to celebrities. The public doesn’t always get to see his funny side, but otherwise he’s the same in private as in public. He once said, ‘I’ll be in the public eye all my life. I can’t hide who I am because I’ll be found out.’ ”

Re: the air ambulance job… “Some senior courtiers questioned whether it was becoming of a future king to be doing a middle-class role, hanging out with ordinary people. They thought he wouldn’t stick it out, he’d find it boring, or was doing it out of stubbornness to put off royal duties…” Those courtiers were right in that situation. In 2016, there was a rash of reporting about how little work William did as a “co-pilot” with the air ambulance service, because he was never a full pilot and he made some kind of arrangement with the service to pretend to work. He apparently got bored with the part-time work after a few months, and spent the better part of several years doing next to nothing with the ambulance job AND with his royal work, and lying about why.

What else? He’s taking credit for changing China’s policy on ivory trade, which seems like the making of an international incident, and something which will likely enrage Community Party officials in China. He’s also being led by the short hairs by the media as they demand their pound of flesh from him when it comes to access to the kids. William uses his children as human shields to deflect criticism from his own sh-t and that’s pretty obvious too. But this is my favorite: “He never wants to be painted as irrelevant or dull, though he’s allergic to being compared to celebrities.” He would loooove to hang out with celebrities and athletes but he’s too irrelevant and dull to pull it off. But that’s supposed to be some kind of slam on Harry & Meghan, who are actually A-list celebrities now.

“He’s not worried about his kids’ privacy any more.”

    Why not, hmm?

Oh this piece is so unintentionally revealing it’s like Tatler 2.0!

    • Couch potato says:

You’re spot on with Tatler 2.0:-) It’s so way out there, it made me LOL, but I’m not sure it’s meant as sarcasm. It might convince his fanbase, the old grannys, but to anyone paying a little bit attention to what’s going on this is like Trumps speaches about himself. Completely see-through and full of BS!

    • S808 says:

Yeah I read that and thought to myself “yeah cause you can’t afford to anymore”

    • Lemons says:

I would be worried if your company was leaking family secrets like a sieve…It honestly says so much….

    • notasugarhere says:

W&K have used their kids for PR from the beginning. The behind the scenes secret meetings with the tabloids to get them to shut up. PGTips being used by the Middletons to shame William after he went hunting with Jecca. Kids being used as PR props on foreign tours from the start.

It is never about anyone else’s privacy. It is always about 1) William’s secrecy and 2) William’s control.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

I wonder if like Tatler 2.0, they will demand portions of the article be removed once they’ve seen how ridiculous it makes him look. In one weekend, they activated the emergency black friend, wrote a puff piece and assembled an avengers style sources/royal sources/friends/royal experts/courtiers/senior courtiers and just about any one with ratty hair and split ends. A very pathetic attempt at embiggening which keeps blowing up in their faces.

      • Christine says:

“they activated the emergency black friend”

Thank you so much for this laugh!

ETA: All I can picture is William in the one of the Wonder Twins roles, I loved that cartoon!

    • PEARL GREY says:

      ‘By his closest friends’

When did having friends run to the press become OK, since everyone lost their minds when Meghan’s defended her in People mag? Will and Kate’s “friends” can’t seem to stop spilling to the papers.

And William is “not worried about his children’s privacy anymore” because he’s more worried about what will come out about himself if he were to stop using them as a human shield instead. This latest puff piece is giving Tatler teas.

    • AnnaKist says:

Too late, Bill. You’re already irrelevant and dull, as well as petty, bitchy, controlling, devious and a tantrum-thrower. You’re a plonker with anger-management issues who couldn’t stand your brother’s successes (Invictus – that was a massive feather in Harry’s cap) and international popularity. You are the first-born, but you’ll always be second-rate. Naff off.

      • Madelaine says:

I don’t think Clenched-Jaw deserves this much criticism, especially when one delves into the hieroglyphics of the royal commenters.
        – ” They’ve got a solid relationship ” = They have a clear understanding of each other’s role and mission, and that barely includes love.

        – “She gives him confidence ” = Stepford wife Karen never makes a scene when Clenched-Jaw returns home after a rose budding session, because this is part of the deal.

        – “There is no jealousy, no friction, they are happy for each other’s successes ”: I bet they are. Catherine dear, what have you done all day? Nothing. What about you, William? Not much. How can one possibly envy someone else’s non achievements? They are so equally mediocre and idle that it’s painful to watch for a retired slime. The more the British press extols them, the more they expose them. The subtext here is appalling.

  2. Gm says:

I think he is jealous of others like Kate/ Harry/ Meghan when they get a lot of attention. I’m curious as his kids grow up if it will happen because I thought that about Charles too, upset his sons were popular.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

The dragging he received and is still receiving on twitter was glorious to watch. Will Jong-un, the other brother is doomed. He will have to keep feeding his children to the press whether he likes it or not. It runs in the family anyway, he is simply doing what his father did to him and Harry.

      • Liz version 700 says:

The dragging was absolutely glorious and endless lol it went on and on and on

  3. TQ says:

Am noticing again all the references to him being an impatient rage-monster. And these are the puff pieces!

And ‘He knows what he wants and he goes out to get it” — yeah, when it comes to his (alleged) affairs! LMAO.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

His temper and incandescence is all he has going for him. No charisma, personality or solid achievements. With all the resources at his disposal, the energy spent on these puff pieces could have gone into doing some actual work.

  4. truthSF says:

“Marriage maketh the man,” a friend says

And here I thought “manners maketh man”!🤔 Kingsmen lied to me!!😂

Bully is allergic to being compared to celebs…the same celebs he was begging to work with him for years, and complaining that none wanted to?! This dude is such a tool, I cannot!!😂😂😂🤣

  5. Elizabeth says:

Is that an air ambulance uniform? Or is it unearned Ruritanian dress-up like this family loves?

  6. Jay says:

I’m trying to read this with some objectivity, as if I was finding out more about William for the first time, and he still comes off as an arrogant prick. I raised my eyebrows at the paragraph that began “Unlike his father…” In terms of willingness to engage with China, and take credit for negotiating an entire policy. But the royals do no get involved in politics, guys.

I wonder how the title “The Other Brother” and that pompous photo is going down with William. Like “Kate the Great”, I read it as almost mocking?

    • I pet goat 2 says:

Same, It is so mocking, shouldn’t the spare be “the other brother”? 😬 amazing, it really is tatler 2.0

      • Lemons says:

I didn’t even think of that. Willileaks relegated to second place on his own cover.

      • Carmen-JamRock says:

Its the same energy when will-jung-un’s handlers have him say: “I’m Diana’s son toooooooo.” LMFAO
Yean, he’s definitely the “also ran” to Harry-the-incomparable.

    • Myra says:

He does come across as very arrogant. He is also not shy to throw Charles under the bus and I realise that that is his MO. He cannot lift himself up on his own without dismissing/disparaging someone else. He has no legacy of his own so he takes credit for work done by others, even if it means rubbishing the notion that royals doesn’t get involved in politics.

      • JT says:

The Other Brother isn’t as flattering as they think it is. It kind of sounds William is just a pile of scraps. Like, oh we could’ve had Harry but now we’ve got the other one.

And notice they can’t bring up any current work that William has done. Was there any mention of earthshot, since that is his only project? Where is his legacy? What does he have to show for his time in the monarchy? And wasn’t he just a copilot? Let’s not act like he’s Hans Solo or something.

      • Cecilia says:

@JT you are right. Im sorry but all this fluff actually very much reads like a jab. His fans will drink it up like the brainless sheep that they are but i think the neutral spectator would cringe a bit.

I just can’t figure out if williams pr people and royal reporters are actually this dumb or that they fully realize what it sounds like but it was done anyway to get back at him for something.

      • Lemons says:

@JT I agree with you 100%. No legacy to speak of, we’re still harping on about his years as a helicopter co-pilot and him knocking up his wife. Like…congrats? That was nearly a decade ago. What about now?

@Cecilia, The Times seems to be a tabloid masquerading as a newspaper from News Corp (Hey, Rupert!) so while I expect this nauseating deferential drivel, there’s definitely the possibility for snark considering their source material. Even royal reporters can only write so much about Rescue Helicopter Co-Pilot Middle Class Everyman Prince William before their true feelings seep out.

      • ArtHistorian says:

I’m cackling over this title. William is the heir, the future future Head of State but he’s now been relegated to being the Other Brother because his little brother is just more famous (and charismatic). I don’t know who came up with title because it really is subtle shade. If it came from William’s office, then they are just hilariously dumb and if it came from the journalist, I feel like this is either deliberate shade or pure stupidity. Can never tell when it comes to the RR.

      • Feeshalori says:

The shade is palpable. That title rings of “Don’t forget about meeee! I’m over here, the FFK!” I think the Times is in league with Tatler.

    • Gruey says:

@Jay that had a real Jared Kushner solved peace in the Middle East vibe.

One of the unspoken things the monarchy is struggling with is that it has absolutely NO VALID ROLE whatsoever in politics, international or national. Can you imagine the dim witted Keens actually carrying out real foreign policy work? Like actually taking orders from the British government and carrying out negotiations? Those ignorant narcissists? It’s absolutely laughable.

      • Couch potato says:

They tried with Pedo Andy before, that didn’t go so well! They’re supposed to stay out of politics, and made a huge stink when H&M told people to vote and reject hate speece, but some of the causes Will is SOOO keen on, and work SOOOO much on, are actually political causes.

      • UptownGirl says:

It truly is. I am certain that the PR camp are patting themselves on the back as they think that this puff piece of crap is sensational and a defining moment of the great Baldimort, but they should probably be fired as this sounds like nothing but an ill-intentioned reflection of how little Baldimort has done and how he and Keen Karen have actually contributed in the last 10 years of marriage.

      • JT says:

Has anybody here seen Coraline? I thought of that movie as soon as I saw this headline. It might still be on Netflix. The plot of the film is a young girl not liking her family and goes down the rabbit while to an alternate world with her Other Mother. On the surface the Other Mother is great but after digging she is a total monster. Will is the Other Mother….or rather, the Other Brother. Lol. You cannot make up how dumb William sounds.

      • Dilettante says:

Taking The Donald’s place in diplomacy land, Willnot is.

  7. Chichi says:

I think Harry’s brother could use some of Harry’s charisma and genuine curiosity.

    • Nicole says:

Bah ha ha YES. I hope he reads your comment, Chichi, because I don’t think there’s anything that would hit him harder.

    • notasugarhere says:

And an ounce of Harry’s genuine compassion.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

That’s the problem right there. The plan was not for him to be known as Harry’s brother. Imagine the deep seated jealousy in knowing you will forever play second fiddle to someone who was meant to be your whipping boy.

    • Gina says:

And a tiny bit of Harry’s emotional Intelligence and sincerity.

  8. I pet goat 2 says:

“He speaks for that next generation and I think they can relate to it.”
    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 yeah no.
He doesn’t even speak for most people his generation, hahahah

    • Mila says:

That made me laugh too! He’s delusional! 😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹

    • Nina says:

Bawhahahahaha. Don’t think so. Nope. Never. Whoever wrote that line must have been 6 gin and tonics deep at 4 am in the morning.

  9. Chica says:

Is it too much to ask that he consider teeth whitening? It doesn’t have to be a blinding white.. just a few shades to make it seems like regular brushing with baking soda is a habit? Those teeth are large.

The palace needs a competent PR department and a crisis manager.. This story and the “I have a black friend”,reeks of desperation.

When these stories and features are completed, what will the tabloids do? I guess the Rosebush story will see the light of day. I guess Charles will leak if William gets a boost.

  10. Harper says:

The public doesn’t get to see his funny side? Let’s see. We recently got to see his funny joke about the coronavirus being a bit hyped up while on their royal tour of Dublin. Then there was that hilarious bit William did about the delivery driver who dropped off the curry for Will and his sports dudes probably being slammed to the floor and frisked. All so statesman-like and not at all racist.

    • Kalana says:

That time he mocked people at Wimbledon who take public transportation.

    • Myra says:

I’m not sure what his friends are trying to say really. They say he is the same in public as in private but in public he comes off as standoffish and grimaces a lot. He doesn’t exude kindness and warmth, just fake politeness. So if he is the same in private then he really has nothing good to offer than the fact that he was born first. He has never had to work on his personality or charisma, has never had to humble himself and I can bet that he likely has never put another person’s interest above his own. He is a perfect reminder of why having a monarch is problematic.

      • Harper says:

Not a single word in this profile saying he is kind or warm or is there for his friends, family or children in any specific way. He’s supposedly funny in private but his public jokes are crude and can be taken as offensive by any number of his so-called subjects.

      • Sofia says:

@Harper: it reminds me of the Tatler Kate article. So much on how she’s so exhausted and how she feels Meghan chucked her kids under a bus but no comment on how wonderful she is as a mother or what a great friend she is etc

      • Becks1 says:

Yeah if this article is supposed to make him look good – it doesnt really. The times he does crack a joke in public its out of touch and cringe-worthy, so if that’s his sense of humor, then I’ll pass, thanks. And he comes across as arrogant and spoiled in public – so is that how he is in private?

Although, especially re: his sense of humor – if these quotes are coming from people who actually do know him well, then I’m assuming they are the aristocratic friends he grew up with, so they probably do think his racist and out of touch jokes are funny.

      • Dilettante says:

English shade. William is just as he appears to be, nothing more.

  11. bitsycs says:

The idea that anyone of any importance thinks this weirdo man child who is only relevant by an accident of birth to a totally archaic and out of touch institution has credibility on any issue is genuinely hysterical.

Maybe – maybe – if he and Keen were actually ever serious about anything and did the work he could find some credibility but in general, as it is…lolNO.

  12. Canadi-Anne says:

“He can be impatient to get things done.” Right, but when Megan shows ambition, she’s labelled a bully.

  13. Mila says:

William doesn’t want to hang out/ be painted as a celebrity SOOO muchhh, that he’s been begging, crying and pouting that none of them want to work with a royal (nah it’s just him) on his ‘projects’ for the last five years! Same with him crying about the tech and environmental giants that have jumped aboard Harry’s projects with ease, that William claimed ‘we’re not interested! It’s just his personality that is repugnant, and likely the fact he is so entitled and pompous but probably hands over the work of a 6 year old thinking it’s gold!

  14. Kalana says:

William says something on Chinese television.

Two years later, China bans the ivory trade. Totally linked, y’all! 🤷

    • equality says:

Yeah, he laid that one on thick in his documentary also. The US and UK governments worked for years to get China to take action but William’s one statement made a big difference. I wonder if he truly believes all this about himself; that he is that powerful.

    • Fredegunda says:

The Norwegian government uses the monarchy as a foreign policy tool. The king and queen and crown prince couple are sent on official tours/state visits to further the diplomatic and economic interests of the country. The queen has said that she feels that the “fairy dust” of royalty helps to smooth the path for both diplomatic negotiations and private enterprise. Maybe the UK government attempted to use William in such a capacity. While I don’t think for one second that his speech alone led to the ban, I can 100% believe that negotiators behind the scenes hoped to use it as leverage (“the FFK holds the people of China in high regard and hopes they will do the right thing re: ivory,” “when the FFK visited last year, he brought up the ivory trade, and that’s something we’d like to look at again,” etc).

That said, the UK lost an enormous asset when they let Meghan and Harry go. Barring the pandemic, I would have sent them on tour to Spain/Gibraltar during Brexit negotiations, and then to the US ahead of more trade talks.

      • ArtHistorian says:

The Danish government use the DRF in the same manner – there are delegations (especially trade and industry) that accompany them on foreign State Visits. The royals themselves don’t enter any of these diplomatic or business talks but they do host dinners etc. They are there for the “glamour” of royalty – and according to business insiders they are a factor to the successes but in a kind of intangible way. I does help that the Scandinavian royals generally are engaging people who don’t seem to have the supercilious arrogance that characterizes so many of the Windsors.

I have often said that the success of a constitutional monarchy in today’s world hinges on the quality of the people who inhabit the office of monarch and the people who are members of the families. In that sense, these institutions are very fragile because what happens when you get a dud? The Windsors suffer from the problem of their personalities: arrogant, entitled and dumb is a lethal combination. When Andrew had that trade ambassador position, British diplomats named him His Buffoon Highness though it was Andrew’s own corrupt self that eventually fell him.

The more I learn about William, the more he comes across like his uncle Andrew (minus the raping of teenage girls). William is a big dud and I think a lot of the royal press and royal “experts” know this – thus the weird insistence that William needs Harry for the British monarchy to remain relevant. And as many people say – Head of State is not a shared position, it can only be held by one person and if people who are supposedly “in the know” keep saying that the designated heir to the position of HoS absolutely needs another person to share the load, then I’d wonder why and whether the designated heir is really up for the job. William really has become the Other Brother despite him being the Heir, and implicit in this new moniker is the fact that he has been completely overshadowed by his brother in the public as less famous, less charismatic, just less.

  15. Yoyo says:

Cain knows he is dull, and in private he is the same bore as he is in public.
This is a man that resented his brother all his life and was so jealous of him, that the Island was not big enough for both of them.
It must piss him off to realize that Meghan is the most famous royal Worldwide, that’s what four of leaking stories about her has done, even the BM in stories about the royal family always attaches her.
Did Cain and the royal family think Meghan and Harry were going to sit on their hands for a year, before they set up a website, Cain thought holding to Sussex royal was going to crush them, they really don’t know Meghan.

    • Mila says:

No I actually don’t think he does, I think he is so wrapped up in yes-men that he doesn’t have a iota of reality inside of him. That’s why whenever he tells a joke to outsiders like on that podcast where he laugh about rustling an Uber driver to the ground during BLM and police brutality marches people thought wtf!

      • Nic919 says:

I agree. He’s been told he is special since birth and has been protected in all capacities, unlike Harry. He really thinks he’s special and funny and just can’t understand why Harry is more popular. And anytime reality does get close to him and he hears things he doesn’t like, he gets incandescent. He’s not a functioning adult and frankly the similarities between William and Trump grow every day.

      • Merricat says:

        ITA, Nic

    • JustBitchy says:

Check out the end of this video where Diana gets William to go along with her by telling him he will miss out to Harry. Plus overall lots of rage from a little kid. https://youtu.be/qZP9kc1qR_M

  16. Sunday says:

This is all so thoroughly, hilariously propagandized BS that I’m not even mad, it’s just too funny, and pathetic. Keep it up, William! It’s going great!

  17. Merricat says:

This was hilarious from beginning to end–it was like the written version of those Trump illustrations that depict the fat old geezer as a muscle-bound beach boy. That is not surprising, given that both Trump and William have such an overwhelming sense of entitlement; Trump wants credit for things that he did not do, just as William does. Will anybody buy this except the oldsters? I think even the Tories know the truth about this prince.

  18. HeatherC says:

Who are these people? LOL “William’s not trying to be down with the kids.” Is his friend 65 years old trying to be down with the kids?”

He’s going to be king whether he’s ‘down with the kids’ or not. He peaked in college, it’s 20 years too late to try and make him happen.

  19. AVEA says:

“He never wants to be painted as irrelevant or dull” Well. He IS irrelevant and dull, sooooooo no worries there, just accept reality LOL

They ARE the ones who cosied up to Hollywood A listers in LA a few years back so that’s a lie from the president of the BAFTAs who makes grand silent entrances with people standing up for him every year he attends

    • equality says:

Considering how many slurs they receive from various members of the royals, I don’t know why any actors or celebs would want to be around them. Are celebs not considered human also by the royals?

  20. Natalia says:

“Unlike his father, who has refused to visit the People’s Republic over its human rights record and treatment of Tibet…”

How are the human rights records of the British Empire in China and practically all Asia?
    Hypocrisy or stupidity?

  21. Emily says:

Not to be petty, but remember the time that he couldn’t find any celebrities to work with him on his mental health thing?

  22. Lowrider says:

    Propaganda.

And the media have him by the balls!

“He’s not worried about his kids’ privacy any more..”

    Yikes!!

    • ArtHistorian says:

“He’s not worried about his kids’ privacy any more..” – this REALLY makes him sound like a terrible father. His children are still so very young.

Louis is only 3! So I guess privacy was important for the heir but not the spares. Sorry Louis and Charlotte, time to step up to the age old Windsor tradition of being used to protect the heirs (here, your father and your brother.)

      • notasugarhere says:

William will protect Charlotte as ‘Diana’s first and best granddaughter’, but he and George will attack Louis. Kate will be the one to belittle and abuse Charlotte via the press.

      • Tessa says:

George got the present from Attenborough the other children got nothing. This sort of thing will continue.

  23. Tiffany says:

I thought Willnot couldn’t become a full pilot because his vision is no bad that he could not pass the physical and that is why they had to create a role for him and Petty Liz gave them a customized helicopter as a result. All that accommodating and money and he still didn’t commit.

  24. MaryContrary says:

The comments about his relationship with Kate and her “growing confidence” and the support of “her work”-bwahahahahahahaha.

    • Merricat says:

Lol. Ten years to grow that confidence and come up with five questions that people have been asking for generations. Spare me.

    • Nic919 says:

That part was hilarious because Kate remains infantilized at almost 40.

  25. detritus says:

    The ‘other’ brother?

Holy hell, they really are pissy that Harry is getting attention.

He’s not the other brother, he’s the heir apparent. This positioning is just an absolute tell on the mental states of the BRF. They feel like it’s oppression for Harry to be most talked about. That’s Willys privilege, how dare they even momentarily take the spot light? And now they are acting like Wee Willy is the black sheep with this ‘other’ nonsense?

  26. My3cents says:

He was furious at his cyberbullying team? What they didnt trash Meghan enough for his liking?

    • equality says:

It’s also more evidence of his ego. He thinks he can hold a few meetings and everybody will jump in line. Harry and Meghan are actually putting in the work and supporting boycotts and organizations that are in it for the long haul.

  27. Miranda says:

“…never wants to be painted as irrelevant or dull…”

I can’t read that without picturing him rolling up in a backwards cap and a MUSIC/BAND t-shirt. How do you do, fellow kids?

    Give me a f–king break.

  28. ABritGuest says:

This sounds like projection of Harry& Meghan: “ she gives him confidence,” one says. “There is no jealousy, no friction, they are happy for each other’s successes.” In private William talks as passionately about Kate’s work as his own campaigns, and takes pride in her growing confidence on the public stage.”

We’ve seen Bill roll his eyes & look exasperated when Kate is doing a speech. It’s made me feel sorry for her the way he treats her at engagements sometimes. In contrast so many people talk about how Meghan may have given Harry more confidence & we’ve seen him look super proud when she’s given a speech& talk about how he can’t follow after her etc.

Interesting how open they are about Bill being political& apparently is credited with helping other countries change their policies. Thought that wasn’t allowed? Also for someone who was so guarded about the children’s privacy just a few years ago& determined to keep the press at bay you have to wonder about this sudden change 😉 . Not really rebuffing Harry’s assertion about access in exchange for favourable coverage.

    • Nic919 says:

A strong argument can be made that William and Kate got worse by marrying each other because they both bring out the worst traits. The laziness, lack of dedication to any cause and petty jealous of others who are more popular are traits they both share and their image went from very good in 2011, to two lazy dullards who stab their more popular sibling/ inlaws in the media in order to cling to popularity in the insular bigoted crowd that blindly supports the monarchy.

No one could have imagined in 2011 William being mocked the way he is now, and it’s all his own doing. (With a boost from Kate and Carole and their machinations )

      • notasugarhere says:

They did get worse by marrying each other, with a big dose of Carole in there manipulating things, throwing them back together, and keeping them from tearing each other apart in their repeated fights. Two overgrown adolescents who never should have married much less had children together.

      • Jaded says:

William needed a doormat wife to wipe his feet on because he wouldn’t have been able to handle an accomplished, independent, hard-working woman who would show him up as nothing more than a lazy, tempermental, self-obsessed child-man. Kate, via Carole, perfected the art of door-matting but the trouble is, when you’re married to a woman like that, sooner or later you’re going to get really bored and go looking for someone with more substance. I guarantee those two are leading separate lives now – the Rose Hanbury situation was the culminating event that drove them apart. In a sense they deserve each other – they’re cut from the same cloth.

      • Dilettante says:

+1 to both Nic and Nota

      • Miranda says:

@Jaded – “Doormat” is right. And of course, it’s nothing new in the royal family. Just look at Charles, who married Diana under the assumption that he was getting a sweet, innocent, somewhat sheltered young woman–practically a child in some ways!–whom he could mold into the perfect consort who would do her duty and keep her mouth shut. When she began to show a little backbone, she had to go. Naturally, William went after a similar type, only more successfully. Harry, on the other hand, chose a WOMAN from the get-go. I wonder if maybe Charles and William are a bit jealous of that, that Harry, through his choice of wife, broke the cycle and is making them look weak and insecure in their masculinity.

      • tcbc says:

        @Jaded

This reminds me of the Marianne in the later chapters of “Sense and Sensibility,” when she tells Elinor that though Willoughby ultimately chose money over love, if he’d chosen otherwise, there was no guarantee that he would have been happy. He was the type of person to place the greatest importance on the thing he didn’t have.

Similarly, William, now married to doormat Kate, is bored, and seeks the company of more interesting women. But that doesn’t mean that he would have been happy had he married a more dynamic woman. Probably that dynamism would have irritated him, and he would long for someone “easier.” William, like Willoughby, is not built for happiness. Both of them sought it in the women they married, not realizing that happiness comes from within yourself.

        @Miranda
Charles seems happy with Camilla, IMO. He wants to be more broadly loved by the public, but that will never happen. He doesn’t have he right charisma.

      • Miranda says:

@tcbc – I do think he’s happy with Camilla–she’s the one he wanted to begin with, after all. Unfortunately, though Camilla simply wasn’t an option for him at the time, I don’t think he ever had any intention of ending their relationship, He just “settled” for Diana and expected the same things that royal men all over the world, from time immemorial, have taken for granted in their arranged marriages: The consort should pump out an heir and a spare, and tolerate her husband’s infidelity without complaint. I think Diana was ultimately chosen by the RF because they mistakenly saw her as a timid young woman who would know her place. The whole thing seems emblematic of the way the RF views women: It was nothing for them to badger Charles into marrying a woman he didn’t love, and when that woman turned out to be more than they gave her credit for, it was nothing for them to toss her aside.

      • Tessa says:

MIranda, Charles was seeing many women and when he met Camilla Shand she was in love with Andrew Parker Bowles and he was sowing wild oats. He had many other women in his life and even said the other married mistress Lady Tryon was “the only woman who understood me.” He told his biographer Jonathan Dimbleby he was not ready to marry when he met Camilla. Diana did not think the marriage was arranged. Since there were no betrothal documents or ceremonies to prepare the marriage. Both were free to walk away and Charles broke up with others like Sabina Guiness and Davina Sheffield and Amanda Knatchbull said no when Charles proposed. IF Diana had said no he’d only find another youthful aristo. Camilla herself was said to be the “safe married friend” who “inspected” Charles’ girlfriends. This was even reported in the press way back when ! Nobody forced Charles I think he just listened to Camilla and thought Diana would turn a blind eye and be there for ceremonial purposes and for having heirs (though apparently he thought two was enough). Camilla was wary of more experienced women and saw off Anna Wallace by dancing the night away with Charles who neglected his “date” Anna that night. Anna stormed out and that was that. The royals were absolutely horrible to Diana and she was expendable having two sons did not give her insurance against being expendable. Camilla also was ambitious and even played hostess at Highgrove when Diana was not around (and at the time still married to Charles).

      • A says:

        @Tessa, some other points:

        – Camilla’s first choice was always Andrew Parker-Bowles, and it hurt her deeply when he was unfaithful. She had a good life with him, but I think she resented that greatly–who wouldn’t. I’m sure they respected each other, but if Camilla could have chosen, she’d have chosen an APB who actually was faithful to her, not Charles. She didn’t marry Charles because she didn’t want to, not just because he didn’t fight to be with her.

        – Charles had to be pressed into marrying Camilla, after the APB divorce. Her father had to corner Charles and ask him wtf he was doing, because he had successfully wrecked Camilla’s life, destroyed her privacy, got her slandered up and down the press–the least he could have done was marry her after all that.

    • Tiffany says:

      @abritguest.

I think about when Harry had Bob Iger’s ear when he and Meghan were at the premier of The Lion King and said she would be a great addition to Disney. That is how you do it, that is how you show pride. It is pointless to do this in private.

And if Willnot even did something like that once for Cannot, I will travel to the UK and eat an entire plate of black pudding.

    • Tessa says:

His achievement was being born first. Hers was waiting years for the ring not even having a full time job.

  29. equality says:

The quotes about knowing conservation issues sounds nothing like Will. He again is trying to take credit for Charles’ work like he did in the documentary he made. As to his earthshot prize, no action has been seen yet and even with it he gave himself an opt out if he gets bored of it.

    • Becks1 says:

Also, if he’s so knowledgeable etc – why arent we seeing that? Why are only hearing quotes about how he needs to stick his head above the parapet as he acts like he’s the first royal ever to talk about the environment (poor Charles, ha.)

Its kind of like he’s always telling but never showing.

      • Lemons says:

This is what I find so laughable. We have to hear quotes about how Williams is so knowledgable about the issues he cares about, but we never see that knowledge on display. He’s not keen to share that knowledge, to go on talk shows or panels, etc. These things happen once in a blue moon, and when he does speak, there’s a 75% (or higher) chance that there will be a gaffe.

We have to hear quotes about his rescue helicopter work, but none of his “pals” from the service back him up and recount the harrowing work performed by William.

We don’t even hear about Earthshot though he should be working tirelessly on making that happen. No sources on that? No update from Shakira?

      • equality says:

In his documentary where he could have seriously discussed issues, he comes off as an amateur. There is a segment on children building houses for insects, which is a fine project for children but the decline in insect species is due to widespread pesticide usage and habitat destruction and he doesn’t bother to discuss either. He also tends to lean heavily on the conservation in Africa stuff but doesn’t touch on how managed bird hunts in the UK are harmful to predator species. Similar to how he wanted to only slam Africans for having too many children. It comes across hypocritical. I watched the documentary thinking that maybe, like Charles, he was informed and interested but he didn’t show that at all.

  30. Becks1 says:

So wait, can we talk about how William sat down with the palace staff and hammered out a plan to ease into royal life and to give his kids privacy at the start and have a public life and a private life? So the palace agreed to protect the privacy of his family? Something they were unwilling to do for Meghan? and when Harry and Meghan had a plan to be part time royals it was considered the biggest betrayal of the Queen EVER?

    • Jay says:

You’re right@Becks1! That would mean he had a plan to be a “part-time” royal and nobody said boo. And him the actual heir! Maybe it shows how integral they thought Harry’s work for the crown was that he could not be allowed that option.

Mind you, I’m not sure I believe that William really did sit down and lay out a “plan”, more likely he just always did the least and had to be dragged kicking and screaming into doing any official duties. There’s a noticeable lack of named sources here that I find… interesting.

Also interesting: he actually days he doesn’t want to do the “bread and butter” engagements! Well, we knew that, but it is surprising to see it I in print. I wonder if that is accidental honesty or “expectation setting” for the future.

  31. Mich says:

Didn’t he essentially steal a helicopter for a joyride to Kate’s house? And then the military had to defend what he did by saying it met training objectives?

He has always been an entitled jerk.

    • Tessa says:

He took one of the military copters to Peter Phillips stag party and got away with it, His commanding officer took the blame!!!!

  32. Amy Bee says:

As kaiser said on twitter, this piece is delusional.

  33. notasugarhere says:

Ah, the China and Japan trip. Harry was requested for that tour, but William and his staff grabbed it. Then he proceeded to 1) insult the Japanese royal family repeatedly 2) have no response when someone talked to him about using ivory for musical instruments and 3) visited an elephant ‘reserve’ which was actually rampant with abuse. He was asked in the newspapers not to visit that place and he went anyway.

  34. Mooshe1 says:

Down with kids? What is he 70? He’s not connecting with younger adults. He’s 39, probably won’t be king for 15-20 years. Those are the people he needs to connect with. If Brexit and covid makes the economy crumble people are going to want to cut costs, Will needs to get with the kids so he can keep getting paid.

  35. Victoria says:

This article, I am convinced is actually intentionally shades. Are the times secretly team Sussex? Because there is no way they could have thought this was a bop in favor of William. I don’t believe it. Nope.

  36. If I were William I’d fire my PR. Why that title/headline? It’s so insulting to him. It’s like him saying “hey, it’s me. I’m still here. Hello! Yoohoo! Anybody home. He was terribly “othered.”! ! ” overshadowed by The Brother

  37. Elizabeth K. Mahon says:

So William and Kate were part-time royals for six years of their marriage but that was totally okay? Meanwhile, Meghan and Harry asked to be part-time royals, and you would have thought they personally stabbed the Queen in the back. Meanwhile both Prince Charles and Harry had created several initiatives by the time they were 30, the Prince’s Trust for Charles, and Sentebale and the Invictus Games. What has Prince William done besides whine about who he’s bored with racism? Or told terrible jokes that are borderline racist. Even Prince Andrew had Pitch at the Palace.

    • Yeah. And Pitch at the Palace should have been more accurately named, “Show Me the Money”! They are such a self-centered, spoiled, entitled group of wankers.

  38. MerryGirl says:

“The other brother”. Will aren’t you embarrassed? I thought you were the FFKing. Now that’s what you have to resort to? To be remembered by who your brother is? This bodes well for your future.

  39. aquarius64 says:

    KP’s PR team stinks.

And pitting Baby Girl Sussex against Charlotte? At least Baby Sussex can run for US president in 35 years because she would be born in the US. Charlotte doesn’t become queen unless something happens to William and George.

    • Oh says:

Also, Baby girl sussex has smart and open-minded parents. She will marry the person she wants. She will study and enter the university she wants. Her parents will treat her with respect. Harry and Meghan will raise their children equally. she is not the (SPARE)😌. Archie and his sister are so lucky!!

  40. Phoenix says:

    I puked 🤮

  41. Robin says:

He obviously likes to be written about and thought of as “furious”. It’s such a negative, out of control emotion to be using as your brand. Have they thought this out, or is it meant to sound manly. If things aren’t going his way or as he planned, if someone else has a contrary opion, he’s furious. I’d hate to work for him.

  42. JustMe says:

Without even needing to look at the cover (obviously photoshopped), I immediately knew ‘The Other Brother’ was William!

  43. VIV says:

He’s so down to earth because he still goes to the same super posh gym that he grew up going to, and still plays sport with his super posh friends that he grew up with… But the £15 socks! I’m officially convinced.

  44. Golly Gee says:

    “ I can’t hide who I am because I’ll be found out.’ ”
    You said it.

  45. Deering24 says:

Yeesh. Is it me, or is that one fascist-creepy cover shot? He looks ready to command troops to massacre or something…

  46. Mustlovedogs says:

This whole piece reads as though someone from KP carefully sat down with all the latest Celebitchy royals articles (I envisage them printed orf on monogrammed paper and carefully highlighted by a portly fellow in a three piece suit and a monocle ) who then noted and ‘refuted’ every single negative anti-Willi comment. Go Kaiser!

  47. Irene says:

“He’ll call and WhatsApp to flag up something that I haven’t even seen in the conservation space. He can be impatient to get things done.”

So this isn’t bullying now? No Palace employee was left quaking with fear?

  48. Colleen says:

Was this supposed to make us like him? Cause it failed miserably….
