Meghan Markle’s former co-star D.B. Woodside: ‘I know what they’re saying is untrue’

Before Meghan Markle entered the royal family, she was known for her work ethic, philanthropy and her all around loyalty and kindheartedness. Since entering the royal family, there have been accusations about how difficult it has supposedly been to work with Meghan. The royal family even had the nerve to launch a bullying investigation into Meghan several days before her tell all interview with Oprah. The royal family has continued its terrible smear campaign against Meghan, but many of Meghan’s ex-coworkers and friends are now able to speak out on her behalf. Janina Gavankar and Patrick J. Adams are among the people who have spoken up for Meghan. Another one of Meghan’s Suits costars is opening up about working with her. DB Woodside played Jeff Malone, Jessica Pearson’s (Gina Torres’) boyfriend. He was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight to promote his role on Lucifer.

“I’m going to say this because this is one of those things that’s really, really made me angry. Meghan is one of the sweetest, nicest, most intelligent, thoughtful human beings that I have ever met in my life,” Woodside expressed. “Meghan went out of her way to always see how I was doing, to just talk to me when we didn’t have any scenes together, but we might just be on set at the same time. She is an amazing human being. And it bothers me so much what’s happening to her because I know that what they’re saying is untrue.”

“It’s very, very upsetting. And just to be direct, it’s bullsh*t,” he candidly stated. “It seems to me there are people who are setting her up to be the fall person. There’s people who are setting her up to blame her for something. And listen, every single one of us as human beings, we’ve had bad days. Maybe we’ve sent not the best email. Who cares about that? Give me a break. Every single one of us has left a message that we might think, ‘Oh, I was crabby that day.’ Every single one of us.”

“It just seems to me, these people are really reaching for any little thing that they can reach for. And all I have to say is that she’s one of the most incredible human beings that I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with,” Woodside stated. “She’s incredibly smart and generous and kind and lovely and thoughtful. I mean, I can go on and on and on. So I wish her nothing but the best. And I just hope people over in Britain, excuse my French, leave her the f**k alone.”

Woodside, on his end, believes Markle will pull through and overcome any obstacle and rumor that comes her way.

“Listen, the thing about her is she’s strong and she’s resilient. And if they think that this kind of stuff is going to knock her off her game for very long, they picked the wrong woman to mess with.” he shared. “She is the wrong woman to mess with. They need to back up, back off, apologize because she’s not the one.”

[From ET Online]

DB Woodside only said what we already know about Meghan. Those of us who followed Meghan’s career and philanthropy knew who she was. We never believed the smears from the British media and royal household. But that Oprah interview was illuminating for people who weren’t aware of what was going on the last few years. It also hurt to learn the extent to which Meghan’s friends were kept silent. I happy that her co-workers and friends have taken the gloves off and I am loving the drama of it all. Meghan’s friends are putting the palace and media on notice by letting them know that Meghan ain’t the one to f*ck with. I do believe the royal family underestimated Meghan and her supporters. They thought that they’d be able to smear her in peace and run her off. It is evident that Meghan has been playing chess while everyone else has been playing Parcheesi. I hope to continue to see more people who have worked with Meghan push back on the narrative that has gone unchecked. Meghan deserves all the support she is now receiving. As for me, I am enjoying watching the royal family set themselves on fire. Good luck to them and their diversity czar.

Meghan has 20 years of entertainment industry experience and has a well documented, highly respected reputation. It amazes me that these royal rota idiots think that they can erase it.

    • Eleonor says:

      THIS.
And the proof they were making up stories is the fact that they haven’t found one single story of her being a diva, or treating people poorly.

      • whatWHAT? says:

yup. and, in fact, it’s the opposite. people coming forward not to support the narrative but to REFUTE it.

        I love it.

    • HufflepuffLizLemon says:

Indeed. You know what I would love? If they could get staff or crew from her career to speak. Maybe I’ve missed it, but the “little” people: admins, lunch crew, whatever. Having a top down backing is great, and obviously she’s amazing, but if even the support staff with no power or influence says you’re amazing, that’s the marker for me.

      Maybe just me, though.

      • Granger says:

There’s no doubt they’re out there, and would speak up for her if asked — it’s just that the media is going for the recognizable faces of the industry. But I agree, let’s bring in the gaffers, make-up staff, and caterers and remind people that this isn’t someone who’s only kind to other actors — she’s kind to everyone!

      • Xoxo says:

Meghan tends to become friends with the “staff” around her. She is now great friends with her hairdresser who came out and defended her. Her facialist (I think that’s what she called herself) has also become friends with her. She also came out and defended Meghan. That says something.

      • lanne says:

people from craft services and makeup artists have already spoken. They have told us about her taking food from craft services to shelters, and being kind to people working on set, including making eye contact (which a lot of celebs won’t do–granted, she wasn’t a big enough star to pull that, and huge stars have valid reasons for doing it, as crappy as it can read to others)

      • ABritGuest says:

They have. A few crew members who worked on suits & hallmark set said on SM Meghan was lovely. Even before she married in they interviewed her dog walker & make up artists she had worked with& they said the same. The Sun hired a PI to look for dirt on Meghan & didn’t find any so they went after her relatives. Same as Andrew Morton who went to LA.

The tabloids would have dragged in industry people to back up their difficult duchess stories if they existed by now.

      • HufflepuffLizLemon says:

Thank you all for adding that! I guess it doesn’t get the same level of coverage, but it SHOULD. When you’re kind to people who can do nothing for you… that’s the mark of a genuinely lovely person.

      • whatWHAT? says:

I didn’t realize that so many behind-the-scenes folks who knew her had spoken out. that’s great and I wish it were publicized more.

totally agree – being kind to people who can’t “do anything for you” is the sign of a kind person.

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ HufflepuffLizLemon, you are absolutely right!! And what a beautiful reflection on who you are being kind to when you in a profession of some uppity actors who think they are above everyone else. Kind of reminds me the The Firm, always better than other people since they were by God!

    • swirlmamad says:

Well, in their (weak) defense, they’ve managed to erase all of Will’s (and to a lesser extent Kate’s) misdeeds. So while they were sorely mistaken I’m sure they thought it’d be easy to make sh*t up about Meghan. Amateurs.

    • PEARL GREY says:

Meghan also has real friends who are consistent in what they say about her and are willing to put their name and face to their words, not a slew of anonymous ‘insiders’ and ‘sources’ who give statement after statement but hide in the shadows and can’t stick to one narrative.

    • Original Jenns says:

Yes! All we get are vague accusations (she bullied someone, she was mean to someone, she made someone cry), no details at all. What was the situaiton, what was said, what happened afterwards. crickets. Because none of it happened and they have nothing to back up their lies. But they know Meghan can defend herself now that she’s out from under their greedy, oppressive thumbs.

I’ll be completely honest. Meghan is too perfect and earnest for me. But I absolutely believe she is that earnest and caring. So that’s just my own hateration talking because I’m still on my way to being a better person. And I think a lot of people who won’t support her have the same problem (envy), but won’t admit it. They’d rather back up off-white-paint Kate because they know they can at least be that good. It doesn’t bring up their own insecurities.

  2. Over it says:

Read it and cried, first off thank you Kaiser for always having her and Harry back. Next , between Patrick and D.B , I can’t decide who needs a bigger thank you cake of gratitude for being true gentlemen,. Baldimort and Chucky could learn so much from these two men . Oh and Tyler perry. More class in him than in that entire institution Harry came from. So thank you all again for being having humanity for Megs and Haz.

    • Mtec says:

      @Over it
Omg i had the same reaction when I read his statement! Like f*ck yes! He didn’t hold back and I love it!

And look he even admits they haven’t really spoken in a few years and still, it says so much the impact she has on people that he would defend her so passionately.

I’ve always believed in that saying that what people remember about you is how you make them feel, and i think that’s true about Meghan seeing how she affects people.

      • ArtHistorian says:

I loved how he just said it like it is: Someone set her up and is continuing to set her up.

Meghan lost much when she married into the BRF – her freedom, her voice, her independence and her good name. She has regained much after they left – but it makes me mad that the BRF and the British media has managed to destroy her good name in a significant way.

She gained the love of her life and a wonderful child. But I don’t think that she could have survived long-term in that family because they literally mad her life hell because they are racist. I am so happy that Harry choose his wife and child over the royal family, which sadly is completely unprecedented in that family.

      • Myra says:

That’s what I loved about this that they didn’t hold back. It’s also good that they are not in her inner circle of friends so they cannot say that Meghan sent them to do this. It’s funny how people who know Meghan are willing to open up on the record about her but William’s friends are all anonymous sources.

    • Mel says:

      Baldimort???!! I just died….

  3. Nelly says:

Thank you for sticking up for your friend. Anybody with sense can see what they are doing. The girl is unstoppable before and after she found her prince. We should all use her as an example.

  4. Lily P says:

It’s so sad that in standing up to difficult abusive situations the survivor/victim has so much mud thrown at them – it’s nice to see people come to her defence.

Completely superficial level but can’t not say how stunning and fierce she looks in that pic

  5. Becks1 says:

I love that the gloves are coming off (in a good way) in terms of how her coworkers and friends speak about her now. The british press wont stop coming for her but they are doing significant damage to their international reputation – both for the press and for the royals.

  6. Lauren says:

39 years and they couldn’t find a single amount of dirt on Meghan. Even when a PI was hired he couldn’t find anything. They had to fabricate a whole smear campaign with Meghan’s and Harry’s families to try to bring her down.

    • lanne says:

and they were trying to PAY PEOPLE TO LIE ABOUT HER! Three people have come out with those stories–I wish those stories would come out about her

  7. Xoxo says:

Eric Robert’s also came out and defended Meghan. He sounded appalled that they would even SUGGEST that Meghan is a bully.

  8. swirlmamad says:

When I saw the headline I was about to get heated because I thought he was saying what M+H was saying was untrue. Glad to see he’s talking about the Royal Family!

    • Miranda says:

I WAS SHARPENING MY PITCHFORK! Guess I’ll put that aside. For now…

    • Courtney B says:

That’s what I thought! I was almost afraid to read because I’ve liked him for years especially on Lucifer. He plays an archangel beautifully, he’s even made me cry. He has a great presence.

  9. Veronica S. says:

D.B. Woodside’s a pretty cool dude. I’ve actually known about him since all the way back in the Buffy days (when he barely looked any younger, wtf dude is fifty), and his coworkers always have nice things to say about him. (With the Lucifer cast, he always sends out really sweet letters to all of them on their birthdays. It’s quite charming.) So if there’s somebody on site gauging the character of people he’s working with, he’s probably one of the better ones.

Royal Family stepped in it with this one, IMO. They didn’t just go after somebody who didn’t really have any dirt for them to dig up, but they also went after somebody who wouldn’t bend over and just take it.

    • What...now? says:

This is so nice! I love him in Lucifer and it’s great to hear that he’s a very cool dude and always has been.

Probably why Meghan and he hit it off as friends. Nice people tend to gravitate towards other nice people.

    • Pabena6 says:

      Principal Wood!!!

    • Courtney B says:

      He hasn’t aged, has he?

  10. Lowrider says:

All the media and palace vetting tsars could dig up on Meghan was her shitty paternal family and an ex-friend. All the internet libel and negative reporting in tabloids was so over the top with accusations made to dehumanize her.

  11. Eleonora says:

Thry also forgot she is not from Britain and lots people in different countries don’t follow the stories created by British trash “journalism” about the ‘foreigner’.

It’s not helping them that theCrown season 4 has painted a picture of what they’re capable of for a younger generation.

  12. Merricat says:

I love that Meghan’s friends and co-workers stand up for her; they love her and they are loyal to her, inspired by her love and loyalty to others. Such a contrast to the Cambridges, whose admirers are predominantly anonymous and actually consist only of Carole Middleton.

  13. Darla says:

Love DB. He was such a bright spot in the otherwise pretty bad final season of Buffy. And now you can just swoon over him on Lucifer where he’s also amazing!

    • cassandra says:

Loved him in the last season of Buffy! His character probably had the best arc in that season. Nice to see he’s a legit good guy too

  14. Kaykay says:

I’ve been indifferent in this matter, thinking it’s likely they are both not the best teams of people, but I might just now have taken a side, and I’m siding with team Meghan.

    • osito says:

Honestly, KayKay, that’s a really rational perspective to have about people you don’t and cannot know personally. I was the same when she and Harry were dating and engaged, but her actual work has made me really respect and appreciate her beyond her celebrity.

  15. Brubs says:

Abigail Spencer also wrote some very beautiful words about meghan on her instagram, it was on the same weekend that patrick j adams defended her on twitter

  16. Valiantly Varnished says:

They keep forgetting that Meghan is not Diana. She isn’t a 19 year old girl. She is a grown woman who lives a whole life before she married Harry. She has friends, colleagues, etc who actually KNOW her. And will defend her. They VASTLY underestimated her and overplayed their hand.

  17. L4frimaire says:

I’m glad her former coworkers are speaking up and calling BS on this bullying narrative. Even if she had her asshole moments at work and the horrid staff at KP, and we all have, that in no way justifies the treatment she got from the royal family and the press abuse that became a national pastime. I’m so sick of this and don’t understand why they just can’t leave them alone and focus on the royals right there in Britain without mentioning the Sussexes. Go forth, worship the throne and be bored.
