Princess Charlene will not return to Monaco for her tenth wedding anniversary

"Monte-Carlo Gala for Planetary Health" organized by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation

About six weeks ago, Princess Charlene left Monaco to travel to South Africa to highlight some conservation work in her home country. She dutifully posted photos from her travels, and then by May 24th, she was supposed to be back in Monaco for the Grand Prix. Prince Albert’s spokesperson had to announce that actually, Charlene is still in South Africa because she contracted a ENT infection and she needed to be hospitalized. It was shady, but people halfway bought it. Weeks kept going by and Charlene still hasn’t returned to Monaco. People are starting to notice, and there’s some open conversation about whether Charlene escaped from Monaco on the eve of her tenth wedding anniversary. Well, they’ve concocted a better cover story, in case anyone is interested: Charlene has apparently needed multiple medical procedures, the most recent of which was this week. Mmhm.

Princess Charlene is undergoing multiple, complicated procedures after contracting a severe ear, nose, and throat infection in May, meaning she will not be able to travel back to Monaco for her 10th wedding anniversary next week. The royal, 43, hasn’t been seen in Monaco since January, but her husband Prince Albert and their six-year-old twins Princess Gabriella and Hereditary Prince Jacques visited her in South Africa earlier this month.

Charlene underwent her most recent operation yesterday, with her medical team advising she stays in her native South Africa while undergoing more procedures.

‘This year will be the first time that I’m not with my husband on our anniversary in July, which is difficult, and it saddens me,’ Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene said in a statement. ‘However, Albert and I had no choice but to follow the medical team’s instructions even though it is extremely difficult. He has been the most incredible support to me.

‘My daily conversations with Albert and my children help immensely to keep my spirits up, but I miss being with them. It was special to have my family visit me in South Africa, and it was truly wonderful seeing them. I can’t wait to be reunited with them’.

[From The Daily Mail]

These quotes are from her foundation, not the official palace in Monaco. Which is interesting. You would think that if this medical situation was 100% on the level, Albert and Charlene would be on the same page PR-wise and she would have made that statement through The Prince’s Palace. But… it’s a good cover story. I wonder how long Charlene will be able to stay in South Africa with this cover story. (Sidenote: this could also be a cover story for cosmetic surgery too.)

As for Charlene and Albert’s tenth wedding anniversary… that’s coming up on July 2nd. The Prince’s Palace will release ten videos marking ten moments in their relationship and marriage, and Charlene posted a trailer/preview on her IG.

She’s escaped! They’re probably negotiating a shared custody deal.

    • Sequinedheart says:

      I think you’re right, snuffles.
Though, the cosmetic procedure suggestion crossed my mind as well…. either way I’m glad she got out for a while and is home

    • Merricat says:

I hope so. Good for her.

    • Seraphina says:

I think you are correct. There were signs there and that haircut was the biggest megaphone cry of: You keep me here against my will and I will keep bringing attention to the sh:tshow family that this is. And that is not good for business – which Monaco is built on.

    • FC says:

I still find it odd that she left her children like that. I hope she negotiates like crazy and gets joint custody but I really doubt it.

  2. Wiglet Watcher says:

    Lol that anniversary ig message.
Thanks for our kids. That is all.

  3. Amy Bee says:

I saw some royal watchers being upset that people and the press were speculating about Charlene. Mind you, these royalists have no problem with how the press treated Meghan and probably still believe that she made Kate cry. Anyway, it is a coincidence that her statement is released as the latest report of Albert attending a event alone came out. Albert probably told her to put out the statement to quell the speculation. I agree it is interesting that her foundation and not the Palace spoke for her.

  4. Alexandria says:

If she escaped, reckon they will still handle it better than when Harry left BRF lol.

    • Mustang says:

I was thinking that myself. If she defects, this will be handled (I think) with kid gloves as Monaco’s royal family was/is a crap show, and her husband, with his illegitimate children and sidepieces, will keep quiet for fear of her letting the balls fly the way H & M did. She has looked very tortured for years, so if this change it good for her, I am all for it.

  5. Tanguerita says:

Yeah, she finally flew the coop.

  6. Haylie says:

Looks like she pulled a half Katie Holmes to me. I hove she is able to see her kids again and have them live with her part time.

  7. Snuffles says:

In the future all fairytales will be about how the prince or princess escaped the evil clutches of the monarchy and lived happily ever after in suburbia.

    • Merricat says:

Lol. Seems like the Hallmark Channel is rushing production of “Princess Against Her Will: The Story of Charlene the Free.”

    • Lily says:

      Ha! So true.

Monarchies are just the Jeff Bezos, Elon Musks, Bill Gates and Jeffrey Epstein’s of the ancient world.

Historically, people who amass and hold onto the most power and wealth, at the expense of everyone around them, aren’t generally known to be ethical people with healthy boundaries who are prone to reason, parity and compassion.

In fact, monarchies are downright narcissistic enterprises that exist with the sole purpose of perpetuating a narrative that one family (in every generation) is more important than every other family in the country. It’s bananas. It’s not even democratic or merit based.

      • MM2 says:

Lily: Your breakdown of monarchies is real. The fact that they believe their genes are superior to other humans, & closer to God, screams of eugenics.

      • iconoclast59 says:

And even within that one family, only the first born is important.

    • Christine says:

      Ha! Progress!

    • A says:

I mean, if anyone here has watched the Empress Sissi movies (the old German/Austrian ones), the third one kind of follows this plot line doesn’t it? That she gets sick, so she goes back to her native Bavaria, where her mother nurses her back to health, and her husband eventually comes to get her and what not?

  8. Sofia says:

Like I said yesterday, I doubt she would leave without her children. She may be able to negotiate a nice custody agreement, but I would imagine she would leave with the children physically with her just in case she couldn’t get a good agreement.

  9. Gil says:

What a creep/poc must be Prince Albert that makes you wanna leave one of the most beautiful countries in the world? Not to mention having to leave your kids behind. I really think that there is something really sinister about him.

    • goofpuff says:

There is something sinister about him. He has children with plenty of other women (before and during marriage) and fails to acknowledge them.

  10. Ana says:

And that blessing is something many more women can be thankful for too.

  11. My3cents says:

Glad she made it out, hope she still gets to see her children.

  12. Athena says:

The buzz haircut a while back was questionable so would not be surprise if she is under medical care.

I never understood why Albert forced her into this marriage, the Italian court case about the now third (?) illegitimate child may be what pushed her to say enough. We’ll see.

  13. Robin says:

Good for her. She needs time to step back and heal, having dug herself out of an apparently abusive marriage. I suspect he latched onto her years ago at a fragile point in her life. That he knowingly did so, and that he had a bunch of lies and deceit yet to come out, is a disgusting act of coercion. I only hope she gets access to those kids. No doubt this man will fight a custody battle based on his pride rather than love.

  14. Sunshine says:

That video though!! WTH is going on in these families?

    • Susan says:

      I KNOW RIGHT??

Can I just say that while as I type this it sounds incredibly selfish and callous, the gossip gods are really handing it out to us these days are they not?? Between the BRF imploding in front of us, JLo and Ben, Charlene’s escape, Britney’s fight for freedom, WOW! I’ve always been a little bored by the real housewives and reality stars, but MAN, this is the summer of drama!

  15. Coji says:

    Run girl, run

    • Seraphina says:

That’s exactly what I said when I read the headline. But since I am a jewel fanatic, I would have taken some of that with me. I know, I know but that tiara is BEAUTIFUL.

  16. SurvivalIsTheGame says:

Don’t go back Charlene! The children will be perfectly fine at boarding school and with their nannies/governesses! We’re all rooting for you!

  17. Murphy says:

Does it really matter? She gave him legitimate heirs, let her live in peace.

  18. Jaded says:

I think the latest paternity court case was the last straw for her. Albert is such a mega-douche I wouldn’t be surprised if her “illness” had something to do with an STD he gave her.

  19. NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

So tea out of Monaco is not only is Charlene done with her marriage but she disowned her entire family in the process because they tried to encourage her to stay in the marriage.

Given that and other things I’ve heard, I think we will find she is in SA with a special someone. Also, I’ve heard she doesn’t really spend time with the kids at all since they were born so there isn’t a real bond there. That part makes me sad but I can only imagine how traumatizing all of this has been for her.

    • Golly Gee says:

Oooh! Thanks for the dirt! More power to Charlene!
(Hopefully the kids have had a nurturing surrogate mom)

  20. angieo717 says:

Escape him, fine. But she hasn’t been w her kids since January??! That’s just downright fishy.

  21. Jamie says:

This whole thing seems so shady! I hope she’s safe and not in danger of anyone harming her to uphold Albert’s image.

  22. Sof says:

I wish people would stop speculating about her relationship with her kids, comments like “I cant believe she has spent X amount of time without her children”. Everyone is different, perhaps it’s difficult for her, perhaps it isn’t.
The comestic procedure hypothesis crossed my mind too, honestly I’d rather know it was that and not something serious regarding her health.
How ridiculous is that in 2021 we are still talking about adult women being held hostage on plain sight and no one does anything about it? If this is the case, hopefully she is on her way to gain her freedom.

    • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

I agree but we truly don’t know enough to know if this is a hostage situation. As Albert is somewhat above the law, filthy rich with a bigger entourage than people realize, we don’t know exactly what went down or what evidence is there. Monaco pretty much closed ranks after the marriage. We know someone claiming to be Princess Charlene went to the border without her passport asking for help. We know there is a situation but no one truly knows what.

Trust me, a lot of people are curious and have been curious about what’s gone on this last decade with her, myself included. But all there has been is a lot of rumor. I have my sources but those sources also just changed their tune from “Charlene is a great mother!” to “She doesn’t care about her kids, she never wants to spend time with Jacques and Gabriella.” So there’s a lot here that’s very curious. I hope she is safe and someday finds the courage to tell her story.

  23. L4frimaire says:

I’m surprised she doesn’t have a blue check next to her name. It seems weird her extended stay and maybe she’s going through some things she needs to sort out. I just get this weird vibe from her, like she’s not comfortable in her own skin.

  24. Az says:

You cant fight for your children if you cant fight for yourself first.

    • BothSidesNow says:

Well said!! We all know Albert is a POS husband and she actively tried two times from marrying him, but his goons grabbed her and took her back to Monaco without her permission. Albert is a vile person and doesn’t deserve her, or their children. There were comments long ago that if she left, he would gain custody. This is not a marriage of love.

    • Mel says:

Exactly, you have to put your mask on first.

    • Rina says:

This. I was in an abusive marriage and I left my kids with my husband temporarily because I knew he wouldn’t let me take them (he did not abuse them). Now we have shared custody. Had I stayed, or tried to take them, I really think I would be dead now. This is an unfortunate, painful decision for a parent to make, but it is more common than acknowledged.

  25. Mel says:

Sounds like she’s out, I hope she gets what she wants.

  26. Lea says:

I have a wild theory but here it is. I think she finally decided to divorce him, but he negotiated some kind of deal with her late last year. She would stay married to him, but in exchange she wouldn’t have to appear in public with him anymore and they wouldn’t celebrate their 10th anniversary. Since they couldn’t very well cancel the celebrations just like that, they created this elaborate cover up. She will probably come back one the interest in the celebration has died down and people won’t expect us to celebrate belatedly.
Her anniversary wishes are very cold towards Albert anyway.

  27. Bread and Circuses says:

She looks so pretty in that photo with the silver dress! Love the necklace and the red lip.

I hope she’s getting healthy and that she and her family are all doing well, whatever the truths may be.

  28. ChattyCath says:

I think ‘ENT’ may be a half truth. She’s got body issues and facial surgery is often a manifestation. Wounds may become infected with disastrous results and she may need facial reconstruction. To an RF that would be a disaster on a par with ‘mental illness’ . Royals today are all about show and nice pics. Poor Charlene

  29. GrnieWnie says:

I wonder what possible direction remains for her hair…she seems to have done it all. Now that dreds are solidly off the table for white people, what’s left?

    • SnoodleDumpling says:

She’s from South Africa, white people from there tend to be a bit behind on what’s appropriate and what’s appropriation. So dreads are probably still on the table to her mind.
