Alicia Vikander confirms that she & Michael Fassbender welcomed a Fassbaby

In early August, paparazzi got some photos of Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender on the set of Alicia’s latest movie. Michael was seen holding a baby and there were some questions about whether it was a stunt baby, a prop baby, his own baby or perhaps just a baby of some friend or relation. Photographers ended up getting pics of both Michael and Alicia holding said baby, so it seemed pretty clear that it was their baby after all. Now Alicia has confirmed: she gave birth to a child and she’s very happy about it.

Alicia Vikander is opening up about becoming a mom. The fiercely private star, 32, quietly welcomed her first child with husband Michael Fassbender, 44, earlier this year and says she’s embracing her happy new life changes daily.

“I now have a whole new understanding of life in general,” the Swedish star tells PEOPLE in the latest issue. “That’s pretty beautiful, and obviously will give a lot to any of my work in the future.”

The actress is currently promoting her new emotional film, Blue Bayou, in which she plays an expectant mother opposite writer/director Justin Chon (Gook, Twilight).

Asked to sum up exactly how much life has changed having a baby, Vikander says she’s keeping the finer details to herself, but doing her best to live in the moment with each new milestone.

“No, I think I’ll wait with that one,” she says. “I’m enjoying finding it out in the moment right now, more than anything.”

I’ll admit that I was surprised when we saw the photos last month. I was surprised that they “hid” a whole-ass pregnancy, although commenters told me that there were photos of Alicia last year (I guess) looking pretty pregnant. Alicia and Michael married in October 2017 after meeting on the set of The Light Between Oceans in 2014. I still haven’t seen that film! I LOATHED the book. We read the book for our now-defunct Celebitchy Book Club and that book was so bad, we ended the book club shortly after that. Anyway, where was I? Oh, yes, the Fassbaby. From the paparazzi photos, the baby doesn’t have much hair, so you can’t really tell if the Fassbaby is a ginger like his or her dad. I hope the ginger genes are strong!

I didn’t even know she was pregnant. Good for them. And Congrats to them both, although I am salty AF she snagged my man. I too hope the baby has strong ginger genes.

  2. Lee says:

Good for them for being able to keep this new life event to themselves for so long! I always appreciate celeb couples who truly cherish and value their privacy.

    • corralee says:

They live in Portugal (beautiful, yes, but a tax haven for wealthy Europeans) so of course no one is clamoring to see them.

  3. minx says:

That’s very happy news, and I’m sure the baby is beautiful.

  4. Seán says:

Am I colourblind or is Fassbender not ginger? He may grow a ginger beard (pretty common with Celtic men) but his head hair is brown.

    • AnsiPansi says:

He´s most likely colouring his hair since he´s over 40, on the other hand many gingers don´t get grey hair as early as others. But I think he colours it as most of the actors do

      • terra says:

Tell that to the multitude of silver hairs populating my hairline.

Every redhead in my family – there’s a lot of them – has gone silver. Well, I just see gray, but my brunette grandmother, from which the redheaded genes came, insists that that it’s actually silver, so I go with it.

Sure, some redheads don’t go grey – or silver – but neither do some blondes or brunettes. A lot still do. though. I don’t think there’s any real credence to hair color contributing to not going grey, so much as it’s just luck, genetically speaking.

A book so bad it killed the whole book club! Must be a stinker, I will give it a miss ;)

  6. Normades says:

    That’s lovely. Babies everywhere!

  7. Louise177 says:

Considering the pandemic, I chuckle whenever someone calls something secret. Most people haven’t been out until late winter, early spring this year. Easy to hide when you can’t leave the house.

    • Laura says:

Not to mention they’ve been papped vacationing in Ibiza multiple times during the pandemic while she was clearly pregnant. They weren’t even hiding! It’s just that no one cares about them.

    • Jules says:

Well it’s not like she was showing her bump on tik tok and instagram with a cheeseball Hallmark card write up.

  8. SarahCS says:

I was looking for something trashy to watch last night and tried her Tomb Raider but I lasted about two minutes into hearing her speak and could not handle whatever the accent was.

    • milliemollie says:

Her “German” accent in Man from UNCLE still haunts me. I had to read the English subtitles when she spoke German because I could barely understand her and German is my first language.

      • Sally says:

Yes, that was really bad! And I wouldn’t have minded that much if her scene partner wasn’t a native speaker, but she was literally sitting across from a German guy, she could’ve just asked him if she said the words right? I don’t get either of them tbh, I thought he was hot for a while, but he’s a one trick pony and really not cut out to carry a film if it’s not directed by Steve McQueen. She’s from the same It girl mould they broke Lily James off and I find her acting all over the place quite often. But I’m glad they’ve found each other and seem to be happy and I wish them and the sprog all the best.

  9. ML says:

Lots of Swedish women take off for about a year after giving birth to properly bond with their babies. Congratulations to them!

  10. Case says:

I really respect when celebrities keep their family life to themselves.

  11. snappyfish says:

I know I am in the minority but I really love her. I adore them together. Find other photos where you see him smile so broadly. You can’t unless she is either in the photo or nearby. I love when celebrities show you that you can have a life outside of prying eyes. They have done it beautifully. Angelina Jolie had major surgery quietly. Give me the genuine over the fame whores. Portugal has a interesting tax situation for those who earn their money outside of the country. Any and all money earned in Portugal is taxed but at a pretty fair rate. Monaco is the real tax haven.

Congrats and Best Wishes to the really pretty couple and now, new family

Major props to Alicia for this statement. As a childless person, I always feel a bit slapped in the face when new moms (or dads, for that matter) say something along the lines of, “You never know what life/love is until you have a child!” Like everyone who hasn’t procreated is “less than” somehow. I’m so glad she didn’t go there.

    • Laura says:

LOL if you read the whole thing she literally says “I now have a whole new understanding of life in general” after having a kid.

      • iconoclast59 says:

I guess it’s a matter of semantics. Saying that you have a “whole new understanding of life” doesn’t sound objectionable to me. Having a child is a huge life change, and it’s bound to change your perception of things. What bugs me is when new parents use language that infers that life without children is lacking. To me that sounds like they’re saying that people who are childless (whether by choice or not) are just empty shells, that we don’t know what life is really like.

  13. ANON says:

Don’t really care to see mention of Fassbender without also hearing about the domestic abuse allegations and restraining orders. They haven’t touched his career, but the man sounds like a monster.

    • N0N1ckname says:

Hard agree. I believe the accusations about him, and photos of him creep me all the way out. This news made me worry for her, and I’m sorry to hear there’s a baby in the situation now.

    • milliemollie says:

He’s dead to me since I first read about it. I really hope Alicia and the baby are safe.

  14. Elo says:

The movie is even worse than the cheesy book. Totally wasted the two hours I spent watching it, the only redeemable thing is Rachel weiz. And the scenes between them are awkward because she looks like a 12 year old girl and he looks much older. Not a fan of neither.
