Daily Mail: OMG, did the Sussexes travel to NYC by private plane!?!

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Visit The World Trade Center

Okay, I’m starting to believe that the Duchess of Sussex’s ensemble is made up of black trousers, a navy turtleneck and a navy coat. That’s what it looks like in photos now. Which is still respectful – I think dark, somber colors are fine when you’re global citizen/royals making a traditional dignitary-visit with politicians to the site of a terrorist attack. The ensemble is definitely more appropriate than a hot pink coat.

For sh-ts and giggles, I went to the Daily Mail to see how this first event in New York was being covered. The Daily Mail isn’t frothing at the mouth…yet. I’m sure in the coming hours and days, they’ll quote every salty, regressive, misogynistic royal commentator out there, all of whom will be getting the same talking points from Kensington Palace. The Mail raised two issues which I guess they desperately want to be the headlines: “It is unclear if the Sussexes – famed for their pronouncements on climate change – arrived in New York on a commercial flight or flew there by private jet.” What’s funny about that is that Kate and William travel almost exclusively by private helicopter.

And the Mail mentioned this: “Meghan last visited the city in February 2019, when pals including Amal Clooney and Gayle King held a lavish baby shower for her at The Mark Hotel’s $75,000-a-night penthouse suite on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The Duchess traveled to that bash from London on a private jet, with the bash estimated to have cost $500,000.” What’s funny about that is that Meghan visited New York in September 2019 for the US Open women’s final. That was her actual last trip to New York before now. But sure, such an extravagant baby shower! How dare she do that… two and a half years ago. I guess they’re trying to say that Meghan and Harry are spending too much of their OWN money on this trip? Lord help us.

Anyway, I bet we get more appearances from them today and tomorrow. I bet they visit a charity or some kind of worthy non-profit, don’t you?

PS… Something I’ve been thinking about all week is how Kensington Palace ran to Richard Kay right after the Oprah interview and Kay basically said William and Kate were the saviors of the monarchy and that W&K needed to be sent to New York immediately to shore up American support for the Windsors. Looks like Harry and Meghan made it to the Big Apple before the Keens.

Sacre Bleu! The horror of flying private! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS. 🤣🤣🤣

    • Jan90067 says:

I think every flight every one of that family should be highlighted for EVERY private flight taken, every. single. person. on every. single. trip, no matter how minor/major a royal and a end year number needs to be published. TOBB and FFKQ’s numbers would dwarf most (except maybe Tampon, with Pedo’s a close 3rd).

      • Layla says:

Didn’t Kate travel by helicopter like 2 days ago? The Hypocrisy 🙄🙄🙄

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ Jan90067, I agree completely, but the RR have TOB on a leash, a short one I hope, that they wouldn’t jeopardize their info/leaks on all royal matters!!!! TOB needs direct access to keep throwing people under the bus, including Chaz!

    • Eurydice says:

The horror! And the mysterious pinky ring! Diamond earrings! They were 14 minutes late! (Presumably to honor their 14 million dollar mansion!) Watch it all on our live feed! (Not that we care, mind you…)

    • aftershocks says:

I think both Meghan and Harry are wearing dark navy from head to toe. They both look fabulous, content, devoted to their causes, unbothered by foolish noise, taking care of business with style and grace. A true royal couple, deserving of praise and every good thing, reaped from the fruit of their labors, and from the travails they have so gloriously overcome. 💖

Thrive On, Our Duke and Duchess of Success!

      • Pork chops & Apple sauce says:

        👍🏼💖

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ aftershocks, yes!!! Thrive on Harry and Meghan!!! We love you both and we all support you!!!! You both look fabulous and we are wishing that your lives are filled with joy, love and happiness for you!!!

  2. Jan90067 says:

Funny, both the Gov and De Blasio’s wife are in hot pink lol HOWEVER, they are *not* at the Ground Zero MEMORIAL which is where Unable wore hers.

Meg looks gorgeous, but damn girl must’ve been *sweltering* in that outfit every time she stepped out of the a/c!

    • Noki says:

Those colours are not hot pink at all, they are more dark red or maroon.

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

Meg Is a Cali girl. The coat makes sense.

      • Nikki says:

My aunts in Florida wear NorthFace down jackets, starting fall when they’re home and when they come up to Toronto in the summertime. Even in Toronto, Megan dressed like it was winter. Some people are meant for northern climates. LOL

      • Debbie says:

Yes, but didn’t you know? Jan90067 is in a much better position to know about Meghan’s body temperature than Meghan herself. (What a dolt.). Oh, and by the way, stop trying to make the governor and mayor’s wife Chirline’s garment at 1 WTC into a scandal in order to reduce Kate’s faux pas at the 9-11 Memorial. It’s not working. Kate messed up, she did everything but moon the victims’ survivors. People still remember. Live with it.

    • MMadison says:

Now we have salty weather reporters….LOL

    • Lizzie says:

Everyone but the mayor is wearing a jacket or blazer. No one looks swealtering.

    • MsIam says:

When my husband and i went to LA a couple of years ago around Memorial Day, it was cool, in the low 70s and we saw people wearing puffer jackets. I guess it depends on what feels comfortable to you.

  3. Angie says:

I think I can comfortably speak for my home of NYC and the USA…..we don’t care about the Cambridges. I would not travel even one stop on the subway to see them do anything.

    • lanne says:

I don’t think the Cambridges will set foot in the US for a long time. They know the minute they do, they will be compared to the Sussexes, they could be asked about the Sussexes, and they will be talked about within the context of the Sussexes. I don’t think they can take either the competition or the scrutiny.

If they do appear in the USA, it will be a private event with no media. Will-di Amin is too thin-skinned to handle anything else. My guess is that they will stick to Canada and Australia for visits.

      • Surly Gale says:

Thanks, but we Canadians cannot afford to pay for them; we just had a useless 6 million dollar boondoggle of an election. I hope they go to Australia and get skewered. That could be fun. But please, not here. Not now (preferably not ever)

      • Lexistential says:

I don’t think the Cambridges will be here for a long time. And if they were to try organizing a visit, who would show up? The Karens, the MAGAs, and our own Daily Heil equivalents? They would probably have some politicians/ ambassadors attending to them for diplomacy’s sake, but I’d be surprised if they appealed to anyone with any people with real movers and shakers.

      • Jaded says:

We don’t want them here in Canada. As Surly Gale said, we just forked out 6 million on a totally unnecessary election and we certainly don’t want to kowtow to those useless prats.

      • Elle says:

We don’t want them here in Australia, either. Last time they offered to come, we asked them to stay away.

    • Lexistential says:

ITA. I wouldn’t want to see the Lamebridges either. But for H+M, I’m Googling Global Citizen tickets even though I hate crowds.

  4. Nicki says:

Those baby shower numbers are pure fantasy. I remember the trajectory of the stories as the costs got inflated with every telling. I’m only surprised the frantic tabloids stopped at $500k.

    • Jan90067 says:

Not just that, but MEGHAN DIDN’T PAY FOR ANY OF IT! Her FRIENDS made the shower, paid for the hotel room, paid for the gift bags, and the food/flowers, etc. AMAL gave her a ride on HER OWN private jet. It’s *still* like they are saying Meg whipped out Ol’ Brenda’s check book and starting signing checks coming out of the SG.

    • MY3CENTS says:

WAIT- we still don’t know how many bathrooms were at the that baby shower!!!

  5. D says:

She looks gorgeous but it is soooo muggy today, she must be so uncomfortable when she’s outside.

    • L4frimaire says:

Hopefully she’ll change and it’s an early morning visit. The 5am email haters won’t like the early morning event. Despite the heat, that coat has such a nice cut and hangs so well on her. Between this and the Times photo, Meghan is all about Autumn vibes.

    • Chicago says:

Why is she wearing that turtleneck AND a coat thing?! It is 70+ and so humid and muggy. I’ve lived in LA for years and I know it’s so hot in September and October and you really crave Fall, but come on! It’s so easy to just check the weather in NY.

      • llo says:

So now we have the weather police too?! It’s chilly especially by the river. Do you know her body temperature? 🙄 there were a few other people there with coats and sweaters.

      • Eurydice says:

Sure, it’s easy to check the weather, you just have to step outside – the temp was in the mid 60’s this morning. And we don’t know if she’s wearing a long-sleeved turtleneck, maybe it’s sleeveless or short-sleeved – I don’t see any sweater sleeves peeking out from her coat

      • MsIam says:

What if the turtleneck is sleeveless? Plus for an early morning visit I’m sure they got up around 5-6 am especially if they wanted to eat breakfast first. So it wasn’t 70-80 degrees then. I see this same dumb statement/ question being repeated over and over.

      • Margaret says:

        @chicago
Please chicago has a bad reputation, don’t go weather person, and you aren’t even in new York. Sometimes mornings are cooler before they heat up. This memo from a chicagoan.

    • Louise177 says:

Maybe I’m just dumb but isn’t it possible that Meghan is cold? If she was hot wouldn’t she take off the coat when she left the hotel or when they arrived at the tower?

      • Vivica says:

Not to be that guy, but it makes me wonder if she is pregnant again. Idk if it is the hair or not, but her face looks mighty full.

      • Jaded says:

@Vivica, both Meghan and Harry said they were only having 2 kids. She’s barely 4 months post-partum and thankfully hasn’t been starving herself to get down to her pre-baby weight like a certain other duchess.

      • Becks1 says:

@Louise LOL that’s what I’m thinking. All these comments about how hot Meghan must be. If she was that hot, she would just take off her coat .

      • Debbie says:

Yeah, but Louise how would Meghan possibly know if she can (or even wants to) discard her own coat without some random person there to tell her? Such “concern.”

    • Shelley says:

It was 60 degrees this morning! Plus, those Manhattan buildings are always cold of a/c in summer and early fall months!

      • D says:

I was out at 6:30 am and it was super humid. It may say 60 degrees but the humidity is so high it makes it very uncomfortable. She looks amazing, I love her outfit, it’s just so hot I can’t even imagine how uncomfortable it is if she’s outside for any length of time. This ins’t the weather police, it’s just the facts. It feels like mid-August in New York right now.

      • MsIam says:

Oh my god! Let Meghan wear her coat please! If that makes her comfortable then she can wear it. My guess is that the turtleneck was sleeveless and the coat was lightweight wool, what we used to call a spring coat when I was a kid. Not like she’s wearing a parka.

      • Debbie says:

Of course it isn’t the weather police D. (If it were the weather police, they’d just keep insisting that they, and they alone, should dictate something that has nothing to do with them, but that’s not what you’re doing). Instead, it’s just some random person claiming they’re in the same city, at about the same time (wink-wink, we believe you) insisting that they have the right to decide what a grow woman ought to wear. I just hope you go around doing that to all other people in New York (cause you surely live there too).

    • Nic919 says:

I think Meghan is able to decide when she needs to wear a coat or not.

    • Debbie says:

“She MUST be uncomfortable when she’s outside.” She’s just got to be! By golly, I insist that she be uncomfortable!!! Yeah, that’s it. We’ll make it a royal decree. Oh, wait…

  6. Pao says:

The baby shower Serena williams paid for with her own cash? Why do they care???

    • Becks1 says:

Because Meghan has wealthy friends who love her enough to spend their cash on her to celebrate her. Even if we figure Kate has a few friends – do we think any of them are celebrating her like that?

      • Lexistential says:

I’m convinced Kate has no friends, and none with any financial power because she’s too insecure around people with clout.

      • Noki says:

@ Becks Those aristos are not even rich, they have titles thats it and the ones with a little bit of money are probably tight fisted.

      • Sofia says:

“do we think any of them are celebrating her like that?”

I’ve talked about this before. I really do wonder if she has any friends other than Pippa who would treat her to a baby shower like that? Or even a fun night out? I know she’s got friends in general (Sophie Carter, Emilia D’Erlanger) but would any of them say “Hey Kate, we’re taking you out for dinner. Our treat.”? You hear about William having friends, going on hunting trips, going to weddings solo but you don’t seem to hear that about Kate as much.

      • Pao says:

@sofia: im convinced Kate has no friends. At least not any that are her own. Usually when the press talks about the Cambridge’s friends they talk as if they are friends of the couple.

It makes sense if you think about the reports that she tends to see other women as her rivals rather than allies. And the fact that she never got along with Beatrice, Eugenie, Meghan and Chelsy. I don’t know what her take was on cressida though.

      • North of Boston says:

And some of those wealthy friends are also POC so them having money and spending it on Meghan is … worse somehow?
IDK, I don’t speak salty misogynistic racist tabloid.

      • Nic919 says:

Cressida is half sister to Isabella Calthorpe, someone who William actively pursued during and between breaks with Kate so there is no way she wanted Cressida and her family around in a long term way.

      • Becks1 says:

@Sofia that almost makes me feel sad for her, that she doesn’t have any real friends. You have to wonder if even Emilia and Sophie would stick around if she wasn’t married to William. Like if Kate wanted to leave William, who would support her? Her family certainly wouldn’t. Any aristo acquaintances wouldn’t. We never hear about her having a girls weekend, or anything similar – the most we’ve heard is her going away for Pippa’s bachelorette weekend.

Please note, I’m not actually sad for her, because she has no one but herself to blame for the situation.

      • Sofia says:

@Becks1: You’re right that maybe Sophie and Emilia wouldn’t stick around for Kate if her and William ever divorced. I use the example of Missy Percy, daughter of a Duke, Lady with a capital L and comes from a family that can literally trace back to William the Conqueror, and she admitted she lost most of her friends when she divorced Thomas Van Straubenzee (implied that included the royal friends) because everyone took his side in the divorce. And she’s a bonafide aristo for all the reasons I mentioned above.

If she lost her friends, Kate (who we know isn’t accepted) most likely will too.

  7. Brit says:

The private jet nonsense is the only thing they have and it’s so played out at this point. I’m sure they’re so pissed that the British press was excluded and they’re out of the loop. Imagine thinking your the gatekeepers to all things British and royalty and the two people you’ve been practically trying to bully for access doesn’t need or want you. That’s gonna sting for a long time. They can’t complain about taxpayers anymore. They’ve exhausted themselves but they’ll keep going instead of just moving on.

    • Amy Bee says:

@Brit: The funny thing about the private jet is that the same press had no problem suggesting that Harry take one to visit his family when they were pleading with him to come home.

      • Brit says:

Exactly. This is why Harry and Meghan have moved on from them altogether. When you’re attacked for virtually everything under the sun and thrown to the wolves, it becomes predictable and the media has nothing to hold over them like the others. That’s why they keep bringing out the father but even then, that backfired on them. At this point, they’re just screaming in wind hoping for it to go back before the Sussexes left and it’s not working out for them. It’s a toxic cycle that’s become boring.

  8. Amy Bee says:

There is footage of Kate arriving at KP by helicopter after visit to Cumbria on Tuesday and the Daily Mail knows that.

I think its great that Harry and Meghan were able to get out of California and to NY without the paparazzi spotting them. I’m sure the Daily Mail sent someone to get pictures as soon as they heard that they were going to NY. Another thing, someone mentioned on twitter that Harry and Meghan are doing exactly what Diana did after the divorce. She still made trips and meet politicians even though she was no longer part of the Royal Family. Her death relieved any fears the Palace had about Diana overshadowing the family but they’re getting to experience it through her son and his wife. This is why I believe in Karma.

    • Lurker25 says:

When the universe is telling you something and you ignore it, the message WILL come back, bigger and louder. Keep ignoring it at your own peril because that message will come back until you listen, even if it breaks you.

They didn’t squashed Diana, they pushed out H&M… The message of change, compassion, inclusion will be heard, even if Archie & Lili end up standing amidst the ruins of royalty.

(I still think of a tweet by a British historian who was like, oh there’s no previous examples in history of charismatic second sons being exiled, only to build power abroad and come back to seize the throne. Nope none at all.)

      • aftershocks says:

^^ True @Lurker. But the exception is: Harry isn’t interested in ‘going back to seize’ the toxic, entrapping British throne. Harry is carving out his own crown of influence with his bada$$ Duchess!

    • Nyro says:

Her death was just so convenient for them. I’m just saying. But yeah, karma is a beyotch! They’re about to feel what the would have felt from Diana but times ten thanks to Harry and Megan’s duel star power and the rise of social media, which allows their fans to fight back.

  9. Eurydice says:

The Daily Mail thinks NYC is only Manhattan, which is why they don’t count Queens, where the US Open is held. Oddly enough, the NY Post did the same thing. As for H&M flight plans, we’ll probably hear about them after they get back to LA.

  10. Matthew says:

I’m truly scared for what the good response to their visit here is going to do to palace heads.

  11. Songs (Or it didnt happen) says:

    Escándalo¡

  12. Becks1 says:

I dont know, how did Kate get to her events in Cumbria this week? Focus on your royals DM. Sorry they’re boring and no one really cares about them, but you lost the exciting ones through your own racism and hatred.

I am wondering if they were in NYC before their appearance was ever announced. We first heard about it, what, two days ago? Tuesday? so maybe they were already there or on their way, and then they took yesterday for private meetings or for jet lag, and then were up and at ’em today with the mayor and governor.

I say that bc you know the instant they heard H&M were going to NYC the tabloids probably started stalking LAX and as close as they could get to their Montecito estate for shots of them in their SUVs. Some crazies even track private jet paths to try to figure out where H&M are. It’s insane.

    • MMadison says:

Salty air traffic controllers and Salty weathermen …..Reporters on Meghan and Harry from Salty Island

    • Nic919 says:

There were rumblings on Twitter that Harry and Meghan were seen at Disneyworld in Orlando a few days ago. And Serena Williams does have a place nearby and so it’s possible they were staying there undercover, knowing they would be going to NY and so the Florida NYC flight wouldn’t be as long and the media wouldn’t be looking for them in Florida.

In any case, everything was locked down and no leaks at all.

      • Becks1 says:

Damn it, I was at Disney two weeks ago……of course I missed the fun 50th anniversary decor AND Harry and Meghan lol.

      • windyriver says:

Would also give them a day or so to get acclimated to the time difference and be ready for an 8 am event this morning.

  13. TheOriginalMia says:

She looks good. So healthy and radiant. The blue/black ensemble was very appropriate for the visit. I’m glad she didn’t go overboard with her choice of clothes. Professional clothes for a working philanthropist. Harry looks good too. Protective and proud all at the same time.

Twitter has some funny stories about the folks in the crowd giving the business to the Daily Fail photographers. Hahaha! They are our royals, now!

  14. taris says:

why do royalists expect the *british* monarchy to be popular in *america* – y’know, the country that literally went to war to get rid of them?

and why new york? instead of, say, washington? (it would be too much work for the kkkambridges anyhow).

w+k are the ‘saviours’ of jack shit. the firm’s desperate thirst for popularity is so sad. FYI, most people around the world have no time for monarchies, in any case. stick to your miserable island, uhkay?

  15. SH says:

I don’t think the private jet thing resonates as much in America the way it might in Europe with all their available public transportation. It seems anybody and everybody with wealth and/or privilege is flying on private jets in America in current times.

    • fluffy_bunny says:

I know. There’s a goddamned pandemic going on. While I can’t afford to fly private I’m not flying economy and being stuck next to a rando who may or may not be properly wearing a mask the whole time and I don’t know their vaccination status. I always get stuck with the rando because my husband sits with my son. I’m flying business next time I fly in a 1-2-1 arrangement.

      • Jan90067 says:

I used up a lot of my saved miles to fly my nephews home 1st class (from NY and WI to CA) just so they could hang out in the 1st class lounge before boarding, and so they wouldn’t be sitting *so*close* to anyone on the plane. God knows I wasn’t using them at the time, and didn’t know when/if I would again lol. Doing this for my boys, feeling like I was helping to keep them a *little* safer (even if it was just in *my* mind) made feel like I had a *little* bit of control in an out of control time.

I have brought the miles back up since I do a LOT of my shopping (groceries etc) online and I always put *everything* on my card, then just pay it off at the end of the month.

    • Sid says:

Does it even resonate it Europe? There are plenty of flashy and non-flashy Euro rich types who hop on private planes to get around. And I highly doubt the Cambridges flew commercial to get to France for the brother’s wedding. Not to mention that private helicopter they’re always hopping in and out of.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

I don’t believe most people are angered by it. As I’ve seen it called around here, it only matters in the Royal Industrial Complex(great name) and if Harry & Meghan are doing it, it’s bad. At the point where I truly believe that the RIC thinks H & M should fly by way of paper airplane.

  16. taris says:

there’s some fascination with royals in the US, sure, but people in america wouldn’t be coaxed into loving the royal family just by a few photo ops and buttons. rota rats think royals just need to show up to stupid events and wave about and that would make them popular – it doesn’t work like that!
the bitter morons on that island keep misreading everything and it’s hilariously embarrassing.

  17. russianblue says:

They’re so clearly running out of ammo at this point. Here’s hoping that they start to cannibalize the other royals soon in a bid for more outrage clicks.

Someone on Twitter is claiming that people in the crowd were hurling insults at the Daily Mail set. Things like “get out” and “go report on the Cambridges”. Sounds like fanfiction to me, but god, I want to believe.

  18. Monica says:

All this b!tching about the cost of everything, you’d think M&H were still on the royal dole!

  19. Psyren says:

Ok someone needs to fill me in on Hot Pink Coat-gate.

  20. fluffy_bunny says:

Harry got her another new band? He got her one for their first anniversary. Maybe he upgrades her for every anniversary. I only get jewelry upgrades every 5 years but we’re just regular people.

  21. Chantal says:

The DM at it again! Didn’t know the penthouse was $75000/night but they conveniently forgot to mention it was rented by Serena. Also, the private jet was Amal’s. Glad they reminded us about the baby showers’ (fictional) $500,000 price tag… Meanwhile, the Sussexes look fabulous! I love it when their outfits are color coordinated. I think the dark colors were deliberately chosen to be slimming and unrevealing. Not that she needs it because she’s gorgeous but I understand. Every inch of this woman has been and continues to be policed by the racist BM. Maybe the mindset is The less they have to work with, the better. I hope the Sussexes enjoy their trip and get a lot accomplished!

  22. nina says:

Oh the horror, the horror! Eff off Salty bitches. Having to endure public airports right now is a nightmare, anyone who can afford it, is flying private.

  23. Jan90067 says:

I had to scroll back and blow it up; TOTALLY missed it. Gotta admit, I’m a bad bitch…I IMMEDIATELY thought of the TEENY TINY eternity band Kate bought herself, saying it was from TOBB, after having George. He was barely around her and the baby for the 1st 6 mos. of George’s life. I doubt he bought her that as a “push present” as she claimed.

  24. iconoclast59 says:

I have no objection to people like H&M or even W&K flying private. It would be bedlam if H&M showing up in the regular boarding area at LAX, creating a huge hassle and security risk for themselves, innocent bystanders, and airport staff. At least H&M are flying on their own dime and taxpayers aren’t picking up the tab.

  25. Athena says:

I’m still waiting to find out how Mr. Earthshot and family travelled to France for Kate’s brother’s wedding. Are the people in the UK that easy to fool?. As we all know, the private jet is not the issue, what annoys everyone is the fact that a black woman is in the private jet.

  26. Nyro says:

Yes, I remember that. They said NYC was “Diana country” and that New Yorkers would side with the crown before the flaky woke Californians. LOL, they know nothing about Americans and it’s hilarious. The said, I love that Meghan and Harry have fooled that little plan. And whenever the Cambridge do go back to NYC, it’ll look like they’re trying to follow in H&M’s footsteps. Haha!

  27. Athena says:

@pao. Kate did not want Harry to marry Cressida because William was once in love with and don’t quote me on this may have asked Cressida’s sister to marry him. He got turned down. Cressida’s sister married the Bronson heir. Had Harry married Cressida the old flame would have been in their orbit and Kate would not have been able to handle that.

  28. Ctgirl says:

Ummm, traveling via helicopter within England isn’t close to flying across the US by private jet. A private jet trip across the US has a massive carbon footprint while flying via helicopter within England doesn’t. I really don’t get how anyone who is concerned about the environment can justify using a private jet.
