Drew Barrymore loves walking around naked, ‘the most liberating act’

Drew Barrymore’s talk show is three seasons and hundreds of episodes in at this point. After some growing pains in the beginning, she seems to have settled into a nice groove with her co-hosts and guests. I think in general, as a celebrity and a person, she’s a good fit for the talk show format. She’s bubbly and charming and has been around forever, so she knows everyone. And she’s always been known as a free spirit and so we get tidbits like this — in a recent episode they were talking about Christopher Meloni’s nudity comments and turns out Drew loves it too.

Drew Barrymore doesn’t mind shedding her clothes when home alone.

The topic came up during the “Drew’s News” segment on Thursday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, during which Barrymore, 47, cohost Ross Mathews and former NBA player Dennis Rodman discussed actor Christopher Meloni recently telling PEOPLE he is a “big fan of nudity.”

Rodman expressed that he also finds nudity freeing, saying he likes “being an individual that’s very open,” which led cohost Mathews to make a joke in reference to the 61-year-old Meloni’s admission that he enjoys exercising in the nude at his home gym.

“Imagine a jumping jack, if you will,” Mathews joked while gesturing with his arms. “Whoever you are, things are, you know.”

Barrymore then said, “I have to say, too, if I get a moment alone in my apartment and my kids have gone to their dad’s or there’s no one around, I’ll lock all the doors and I’ll walk around naked. It just feels like the most liberating act I can do.”

“That’s cool. I do it all the time,” Rodman said in response. “All the time.”

“All right, well guess what everyone: tune in tomorrow — I’ll be nude, right here at this desk!” Mathews joked. “You’ve convinced me, Rodman.”

[From People]

I see the pros and cons of nude exercising. Pros: you don’t get as hot and there’s less sweaty workout gear to launder. Cons: equipment gets sweaty and body parts bounce around uncomfortably. I think those cons outweigh the pros, but when exercising at home I try to wear as little as possible so I don’t have to do laundry as often. But I completely get what Dennis Rodman and Drew are saying about nudity at home being freeing and liberating. I mean, I don’t feel particularly liberated, I just feel comfortable, provided the temperature is right. After all, it’s our natural state. It’s also convenient to do a lot of chores and projects in the nude, if possible. Less opportunity to get paint and dust on clothes. Hm, maybe I’m really just advocating nudity because it means doing less laundry. In any case, Stabler, Dennis, and Drew are all right. Exercise naked, do everything naked at home!

Sleeping naked is something that is also liberating. But the kids could walk in in the middle of the night to get in the bed with me or in the morning so that doesn’t happen anymore… lol

I too walk around nude as much as possible at home, and I gave up pajamas 42 years ago. I have a pair that I use for camping and that’s it. I find nudity, (not naked, naked implies caught in the act, nudity is a choice) liberating too. Your skin needs to breathe and it can’t when constantly covered in clothing.

Yes, done quite a few naked outings alone in my apartment, especially during the summer, when my air conditioner wasn’t working properly. It is very liberating. Free of itchy clothes, no on around to judge. Enjoying being in my own skin.

Something I’ve noticed also spending a lot of time nude is it really increases your body positivity. You just like yourself more and you become far more accepting of your body. It does wonders for your confidence. I would recommend everyone try it as much as possible.

I think there’s a lot to say when it comes to body positivity. I admit I’m biased to my own sex but I really believe ALL WOMEN in all our different shapes, sizes, and colors are GORGEOUS. We were just built that way. Sorry, guys. That’s why I love to see women in red carpet fashion. I feel like it’s an opportunity to show off our natural beauty — and use clothing as means to enhance that beauty. Like classic artwork. All women should embrace themselves as the beautiful beings that they are. It angers me when societal, community, political, or religious ideologies judge, shame, and punish women based on how much skin we show or don’t show. Either we’re sluts “asking for it” or we’re repressed, oppressed hijab wearing submissives who need liberation. I’m Muslim and throughout my life I got called both from all sides.

I welcome any opportunity to be happily nude wandering around my apartment.

During grad school, I spent some time deliberately overcoming societal pressures to be ashamed of my body by consciously engaging in public nudity events and it was WONDERFUL. It completely transformed my relationship with my body and the external gaze.

I still love to be nude at home and have deliberately made an effort not to pass that embarrassed gaze on to my kids. We aren’t a nudist family, but our bodies are beautiful vehicles and sometimes we just aren’t clothed.

I’m not working out nude quite yet, but my gym clothes are getting smaller and smaller. I want to see my muscles moving. It’s great motivation.

I have absolutely no idea how people wear clothing to bed. And personally speaking, one of the best things about living alone is walking to and from the shower naked.

Stats say that one in four men sleep nude, and one in ten women are the same. I hope more women can find the enjoyment and health benefits of sleeping nude.

Nudity was a thing happening in the Hippie Era of late 1960s and 1970s. I am a child of those days, and Drew was a hippie kid….I think this has a lot to do with why some of us feel liberated without clothes on. It’s an almost quaint notion these days.

I also wonder what will happen when we age into nursing homes, all of us naked sleepers. Naked old people, how scandalous and awful. lol

I love her lipstick shade in the first picture and I often use that color myself. I think it’s super-flattering.
