Seth Rogen credits wife for his new lifestyle brand: she ‘held my hand throughout’

I’ve been sleeping on Seth Rogen’s cannabis business. I knew he was into pottery and sent a few items out to his friends, but I blinked and now he has an entire home goods line. The company is called Houseplant and it’s essentially a weed lifestyle brand. Their marketing is really sleek, too. I love it. Seth and co. favor the mid-century retro look for their products and advertising. I wish I smoked weed, almost everything he sells would match my décor. Houseplant’s headquarters is a cute little bungalow in LA. The house itself is not mid-century, but the interior is styled as such. Seth and Houseplant have partnered with Airbnb for guests to hang out with him in a proper LA mid-century manse, decorated by Houseplant. While speaking to People about how Houseplant came to be, Seth said he owes to his wife Lauren Miller Rogen. She was the one who encouraged him to pursue pottery and “held my hand throughout the process” of building his brand.

Seth Rogen has found his ultimate muse and partner in wife Lauren Miller Rogen.

The Golden Globe nominee, 40, tells PEOPLE that his cannabis home goods brand Houseplant might not exist “if she hadn’t encouraged me” as he prepares to treat guests to an overnight stay and pottery session with an Airbnb collaboration inspired by the venture.

“She had done ceramics, and she just thought I would like it,” Seth recalls. “And she kind of implored me to go take lessons with her.”

Seth and Lauren, 41, ended up embracing the hobby as a couple, and Seth notes that “the first things I started making” were an ashtray design that he ultimately started manufacturing through the brand.

“So really, Lauren knew that I would enjoy that and knew that it would speak to my taste and sensibilities,” adds Seth. “And definitely, we would not have made these ashtrays if she hadn’t encouraged me to start doing pottery and, in general, held my hand throughout the process.”

Behind every man, right? No, seriously though, this is delightful. Seth and Lauren, who is a writer and actor in her own right, have always been a very strong unit. His crusade against Alzheimers was a result of watching Lauren’s parents suffer from it. They take turns supporting each other’s acting careers. As far as I know, they’ve never had any drama around them as a couple. They are just lovely, supportive people. So it doesn’t surprise me that Lauren is the backbone behind Houseplant. She obviously knew Seth would take to ceramics and gave him the push he needed and holy cow, look what it’s led to!

As mentioned, you can go hang out with Seth in this amazing Airbnb if you want. Ironically you cannot smoke in the house, but it has an expansive yard. Houseplant’s next endeavor is THC infused, flavored sparkling waters, maybe they’ll have some samples. If not, you can still listen to Houseplant records designed to match each of their cannabis strains. And several pieces from the line to enjoy. Maybe Lauren will be there? What would be truly awesome, besides just hanging out with Seth and Lauren, is if they gave a pottery class during the visit.

OMG – Pot(tery) – I just got it.

I don’t smoke weed and, despite my name, am not into mid century modern as much as I once was, so I wouldn’t actually buy any of this – but I think what he has done is pretty cool. I love how supportive he and Lauren are of each other. I‘ve only seen her in “For a Good Time, Call…” which I remember was good, though I don’t remember much about it.

I totally didn’t recognize her from “For a Good Time, Call…” I Love that movie.

I love this dude! He’s so talented.
Long Shot was such a funny and clever movie (and it helped me put people and their politics in perspective).
I plan on going to Canada this year and the first (or second) order of business on my docket is to try out his 420.
I’m glad he’s branching out more.

He’s great. Saw a woman with a “Buy Your Weed From Women” tote bag the other day, though, and it got me thinking about who smokes and who’s making the money in the cannabis commercialization.

The commercialization always makes me feel scuzzy because, once again, the basis of the market is just a form of institutional racism winning. We still have Black and Brown people, largely men, locked up on long-term sentences because of weed, yet White people with the right amount of capital in certain states can build empires. When the marginalized and disenfranchised tried to make their street empire on the same product, they were criminalized for it, and it has not been rectified. I say that as a person who thinks her home state should get into turning the tobacco fields we are known for into weed.

Imara219 – I hear you about weed commercialization built off institutional racism, disproportionately locking up POC for weed infractions. Even states that were early adopters of weed legalization didn’t offer penalty relief equitably or simultaneously: WA legalized weed in 2012, but did not offer clemency for prior offenders until 2019; CO legalized weed in 2012, but CO 2021 Impacts of Marijuana Legalization reports the “arrest rate for Black people remained disproportionately high compared to white people” despite overall decline. Taxes are generally high in legal states, so black market weed remains price competitive resulting in more systemic racism in policing and sentencing. Biggest problem in weed legal states though is the mismatch between federal and state laws that result in using banking workarounds and continued IRS audit targeting due to IRC §280E.

My biggest problem with Seth Rogen is his involvement in the exploitative Hulu TV series ‘Pam & Tommy.’ I used to think his movies were hilarious. But I side-eye anybody involved in the misogynistic ‘Pam & Tommy.’ That includes Seth Rogen, and if his wife was involved in that in any way her part is worse.

The few times I’ve checked out his site, everything has been super sold out. I would like to hang out with seth rogen, he seems so funny! But obviously, that is more the impression I get from characters he has played.

I like smoking weed but wish that I could get into edibles because the smoke can be harsh and of course the smells. For some reason, edibles just don’t hit me right and make me feel either weird or terrible, or nothing at all

I saw him on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with Jerry Seinfeld and he’s pretty much the same guy. He laughs a lot, super laid back.

I must be projecting here (long story) because I glanced at the red carpet pic and the words “she wants to walk” popped into my mind.

Zooming in on her face didn’t change anything

I really love when rich men state how valuable their wives/husbands are to their success.
