Anne Hathaway wore Alaïa & Valentino at the Berlinale: chic, expensive?

Anne Hathaway was in Berlin for the Berlinale (the film festival) yesterday. She’s there to promote She Came to Me. Like all of Anne’s recent public appearances, Anne is giving Rich Bitch. I love it, I love this edge and style she has in recent years. I mean, she’s always been stylish, but it definitely feels like she’s gone full-throttle couture/money. For the Berlinale photocall, Anne wore an Alaïa hooded dress with Schiaparelli heels. Considering yesterday’s photos of Kristen Stewart, I feel like the lighting in the photocall/press conference area is just particularly harsh, so Anne looks kind of exhausted, but she still looks great.

Anne wore Valentino for the premiere – this isn’t my favorite, but she’s pulling it off. The nude bodysuit under the dress is throwing me off – it might have looked better with a black bodysuit?

Here’s jury president Kristen Stewart in Chanel. She actually made the effort to brush her hair and take a shower, maybe. I swear, her Chanel contract is still one of the weirdest sponsorships out there. Karl Lagerfeld liked her, and I hoped that K-Stew would be out the door once Lagerfeld passed away. But no, they’re still giving her these puffy dresses which don’t suit her. Gah, the little bow choker!!

Kristin’s dress is weird- but i like it. I think it is lovely, and also that you could wear it to formal night at a german beer hall.

I hate the naked dress trend. With or without a nude bodysuit.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

Beer hall formal lol. I don’t usually love Chanel evening looks, but I like this on Kristin. It’s sort of frothy but irreverent, which works for her.

3 hard nos from me: 1/. black pantyhose with sandals – I thought that I would never see that again; 2/. faux nude lacy boudoir look is something I hoped I would never see again, starting about three years ago, and 3/. the von Trapp family pineapple dress would be ugly on everyone.

I don’t care foe either of the outfits AH is wearing.
KS looks like she has no idea what to do with her hands. I like the top half of the dress but the bottom makes the entire dress look like a toilet paper roll cover from the 1960’s.

None of it is boring, yay for that! I think Anne has really been delivering on the fashion in recent years, I like her style. But the sheer dresses can go now.

KStew continues to have no FTG. She’s styled for a riotgrrrl night in designer couture. She’s pretty and slender so she fits the mold the fashions are designed for but it’s just not her vibe. Someone should cast her as Joan Jett already.

    • HufflepuffLizLemon says:

She was Joan Jett in the 2010 movie The Runaways and to me, it fit her so well. I kind of enjoy her punk vibes with Chanel, it’s an unexpected pairing. Yesterday was messy though.

      • Zazzoo says:

I must have known that on some level or it’s just a perfect match? I’ll check out the movie.

    • Fabiola says:

KStew is slim and pretty but she is not the right look to be the face of Chanel. She would be a better fit for a more modern edgier fashion line not a classical fashion house.

I could see Anya Taylor-Joy in Kristen’s dress, it seems like she likes frou-frou stuff. Actually, Anne’s outfits seem more of Kristen’s vibe to me. Neither of them do anything for Anne.

  7. Nicegirl says:

Give me that couture Anne!! I’m loving 🥰 her upscale Annie on the red carpets lewks ok NGL 🔥 bring it Anne!! 👗

  8. TwinFalls says:

Someone give K Stew some pockets!

  9. Emme says:

Why, why, WHY do woman performers keep posing with legs crossed? Just go the loo and wee beforehand! Or do they all lack bladder control?

    • Zazzoo says:

I think it’s meant to make you look more slender. But yeah it says I’m five years old and have to pee. 🙄

I kind of like Anne’s first outfit because it’s weird. It’s fun but a little severe at the same time. It’s a good look for Berlin. I’ve never been to Berlin but idk, seems like this would suit the vibe there.

Kristen always looks so uncomfortable in that dress. The way she hunches her shoulders forward! That’s a bad way to “show off” an outfit like that.

  11. Torttu says:

    All those outfits are hideous.

  12. Kirsten says:

I love the Valentino with the gloves.

  13. JanetDR says:

I am always here for a hooded dress! I had a demin one in the 90s that I would wear over black leggings and I almost cried when it got too worn to go on.
That said, I think Anne’s dress would look better if the corset bit was higher and clinching at the middle of her actual waist because it makes her torso look oddly long.
And no to nude look lace dresses forever!

  14. Houlihan says:

I wish Kristen were wearing Anne’s hooded black/leather outfit. That would have been a solid KStew vibe.

  15. HarryforLife says:

I think KStew’s collaborations for fashion really peaked in her Twilight era where she was presenting very cis het and “America’s sweethearty” especially with the whole convoluted, overly press covered Pattinson situation. To her credit, to each their own of course, but IMO she wore a LOT of cute stuff that was very fashion forward on the red carpet and had a lot of fun with it. Fast forward to her Joan Jett era. I think a lot of brands are hoping she’ll “go back” to looking like she did before, or maybe are trying to capitalize on her making them look edgy and modern. Who can know, I also find this poofy ensemble confusing.
